I bought this CF card to replace my SanDisk 64MB CF card. I had heard about Lexar's reputation as making one of the fastest CF cards out there and thought I'd try it despite the price premium. Some digital camera users have said that the digital camera can only take advantage of Lexar's USB capability if it knows about it (i.e. it was programmed into the firmware/hardware to support the speed optimization). I received the card and proceeded to compare my SanDisk 64MB card with the Lexar one.

To do the informal test, I snapped an uncompressed TIF at 1600x1280 using my Nikon Coolpix 950 (a camera that supposedly is *not* optimized for Lexar media). With the SanDisk card, it took approx 45 seconds between snapping the shot and being able to use the camera again (it's loading to the media). With the Lexar card, it was reduced to 25 seconds!!! THAT'S FAST! ...and for an unoptimized camera as well.

I currently use the card either in the camera, my Compaq iPaq PDA, or in a PCMCIA slot via an adapter. I haven't used the JumpShot cable yet as I only have Win95 or WinNT installed. That will changed in a few weeks when I migrate to Win2000, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

As another test, I copied 60MB of mp3s from my laptop to the SanDisk and the same 60MB of data to the Lexar. The Lexar was by far much faster.

Great Compactflash card.......2001-01-22

I bought a 128mb card and am very happy with it. It's very nice and fast. It does cost more than some on the open market, but that's ok. It has a 5 year warranty, which isn't as long as I would like, but it's been my experience that in electronics if you are going to have a failure in workmanship you will usually find out about it early on. 5 years is acceptable.

As far as speed of the card I find it quite acceptable also. I have seen speed test of other cards and the usb enabled cards are much faster with my camera (nikon 990) if your camera doesn't support usb enabled code. Then I wouldn't bother spending the extra money that it costs. But at the time I bought my card I got it with a rebate and it was just a bit more than the others on the market.

As for the jumpshot cable, it will only work with compact flash cards that are usb enabled. I don't know of any other cards besides Lexar that have this yet.

Fast, portable memory card.......2000-12-17

The Lexar 128MB USB-enabled compact flash card is really great for my 3 mega-pixel camera. Its capacity is relatively large, and it is faster by far than the earlier cards I had. Further, the Jumpshot reader is so compact that it is easy to carry around in the camera bag, and then it's a quick moment to download the pictures to any USB-equipped computer. It is a little pricey, and it's true that most cards don't work with the Jumpshot cable because they are not USB-enabled--but for me it's a great product that I use almost every day.

People, you have to READ! This scanner works GREAT with non-Epson printers. If your install CD doesn't include the requisite patch (remember, you have to LOOK) you can get it through a link on the Epson 640U Support page the Epson web site.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!.......2001-04-11

This scanner appears to have pontential but it turns out be be a flop. Many of its advertised options only work if you own a Epson printer. This fact that it only works with other Epson products is never mentioned until you get the product home and try to use it. When it fails to work the Epson Tec support people are quick to inform you that you will have to purchase one of their printers to use many of the options. If it was more compatible it could be a outstanding scanner. My advise is not to purchase the Epson 640U scanner! I have learned to hate mine.

Epson610 flatbed scanner.......2001-02-13

This scanner usually turns out decent copies, but that's not the only reason I bought it. I've always dreamed of scanning an item and then e-mailing it . One software program says I don't have a net-card (I do) and the other program doesn't have e-mail capacity. The recipient has to have that same program to open the item. I called Epson and after playing 9-holes of golf they went "duuuh". My iMac is versatile, but it can't perform miracles. By the time I get this all figured out it will be time to buy a new one. Hopefully Epson is smart enough to eliminate problems, because it's got to be easier than improving their customer service, which is deplorable

Whether the range touted for this product is achievable under most circumstances is still questionable, at least according to my experience. However, It does a great job of extending my Airport signal in the house.

It must be mounted close to the Airport, and thus the signal can't extend into some areas if your options for mounting the Airport itself are limited. For those more savvy about wireless, have a look at MacWorld's September 2006 issue for other options. But for ease of use, I still recommend this product highly.

Well, after couple days of messing around with this drive I have given up. Software does not work, wont read dvd-rom (movies), wont read dvd-ram discs, only thing it does do is create music cd's (could buy a cd burner for 20 bucks). Will be returning this item on Monday. Techinal support does not help, not worth wasting your time with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well after reading the reviews I knew I would be in for some work with this drive. Its 8 hours later and still trying to get mydvd installed (problem with version 4.x that is in the package). You will get runtime error when using on windows XP. Went to website to upgrade, and they want $98 to get version 5.0 that has no runtime error. So the "included software" is a joke. So if your getting it for the "great software", dont buy it. I wanted it to make movies from my new dvd video camera, but guess that is not going to happen.

Computer reconized drive right away, so no problem there. Seems to read all disks so far. Have not tried writing yet, sure I will be in for a treat.

The 1-1 support chat at the Iomega website is a joke, just tell you to update driver (which you cant do unless you have $98 bucks, then say update windows which does not help at all, then they disconnect and your on your own).

Will update after I figure out the Mydvd problem. If you dont know alot about computers: DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT, takes too much knowledge for the average user!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not yet ready for the market.......2003-12-16

I bought this drive on 6.12.2003 and encountered many problems.

The first problem is that it cannot burn the DVD+RW it bundles! I used Hotburn to format the disk. After 'formatting', the drive kept on 'verifying' the disk for over 7 hours. I thought it was a media problem, and so I bought another 'expensive' disk for testing. Same problem! I then took the disks to my friend for testing. He can easily write / read on those disks with his Sony RW drive. He then gave me another Sony +RW disk for testing. But the same problem occurs. It seems that the drive simply cannot work properly on +RW disks.

The second problem was using Hotburn. I burnt 2 DVD-R data disks 'successfully' using the Hotburn. But when I reviewed what I had done, only part of the files (1%) could be retrieved. Other files just disappeared! When I contact Iomega support, they told me that Hotburn is recommended to work with DVD+R! If that is the case, why didn't the software stop me from creating the coasters!

Since I do not want any more coasters, I search the Internet for suggestions and found that there are indeed more victims like me (under the Iomega forum). I still cannot figure out any solution, and Iomega support team keeps on telling you to try 'better' media (but I can find no better ones).

Currently, I can only burn 2 DVD-R successfully with myDVD and perform data backup using DVD-RAM (at only 1x speed).

If I can return the drive in Hong Kong, I will certainly do so.

Currently, my only hope is that a further firmware update may make things better.

Avoid This Drive.......2003-11-06

Nothing but errors and coasters. Does not seem to properly write to DVD-R discs. Works fine for DVD+R, but will not work at all for DVD-R. Tech support at Iomega blamed the software company, the blank media and so on, but had no clue what was really happening.

If you need DVD-RAM, stick to Panasonic, since they created it. For all others, just avoid this drive.

Problems with Firmware Upgrade, But Then It Worked.......2003-10-19

Unfortunately, this drive (at the time of this review - 10/03) requires a firmware update to be compatible with all types of media. Amazon was nothing less than spectacular in shipping the drive out via its Free Shipping method - it arrived 4 days later! Much to my dismay, Iomega's firmware update froze my computer, and as a result, the drive's chip was corrupted. Amazon immediately took the unit back and replaced it within 48 hours!! However, after speaking with Iomega and getting another firmware upgrade personally from one of the techs (who also talked me through the update, making sure the computer was supposed to be the way it was for the update), the same thing happened all over! Amazon graciously stated they would take it back again for a full refund, but I wanted one last crack at installing the firmware (I'm stubborn). This time, however, I installed the drive into my daughter's Windows ME computer (I have Win 98). I ran the update, and voila - it worked! I took the drive out of her computer, re-installed it in mine, and it works great. I'm not sure if this was an operating system problem, but it was a major hassle to get the firmware to A06. I suggest you wait a few months so that the units shipped have the update already installed. As for performance, it's a great drive and works very well, especially the DVD-RAM function, which is the only reason I got it. The Hot Burn software that comes with it is kind of schlocky and cannot do a standard DVD-Video burn, only a DVD-ROM burn which will not work on some DVD players. There are better programs on the market that can do the job better than Hot Burn, but the drive works very well.
