The HL-P5685W's automatic digital-format conversion system converts any input (whether DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer sources at 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) to a progressive, 16:9 widescreen image with a 1,280 x 720 pixel count. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter dramatically reduces image-edge artifacts while improving transition detail, and the set's HD ultra-fine-pitch (.155 mm) screen further clarifies images, especially when you're viewing high-resolution sources like DVD and HDTV.
Samsung's Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down correction circuitry addresses digital distortion in 480i (interlaced) video signals generated from 24 frames-per-second film. Finally, Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) works with all analog NTSC and wideband video signals for improvements in contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality sources.
The set offers digital-video inputs in 2 formats. A DVI-HDTV interface with HDCP copy protection permits all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface, and an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) jack channels both digital audio and video to simplify connections with newer DTV set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing hookups to just a single cable and plug.
Other inputs include dual HDTV component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i) for high-definition satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HD cable boxes with component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr); 3 each composite- and S-video inputs; and 2 RF coaxial inputs for antennas or older VCRs or cable boxes. An audio/video output permits hookup with an external device such as a surround-sound receiver.
A 15-watts-per-channel (x2) audio system with a pair of 2-way speakers comes with built-in SRS TruSurround XT, which simulates compelling surround sound through any stereo playback system, including headphones and the TV's speakers.
Last but far from least, onboard 2-tuner PIP with side-by-side split-screen viewing grants convenient simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, while a supplied universal remote control permits control of the TV, a DVD player, a VCR, and a tuner/surround receiver.

If you are looking for an HD-Ready TV, let me say that i was blown away by this one! I'd been searching for an HDTV for almost a year and a half, and when I found this one, i knew the search was over! Not only was i looking for a TV that would be "top of the line" in its technology, ablilities/features (it even has a PC input for computer link-up!), and most importantly its picture an sound quality, i also wanted a TV that would compliment any modern-looking room or apartment with a great looking, modern design. When I got this TV it not only had everything i was looking for in its features and abilities, it was gloriously beautiful in every way! With its stunning picture and design, this HDTV truly brings the "television set" into the 21st century in a big way! This one comes stock with its own bragging rights! Most people who buy a pc do so for predictable uses: wordprocessing, games, internet, and off the shelf software. Even for those who deem themselves power users often find that one pc is pretty much like the other. The tiebreaker in the decision to buy is often a function of price and aesthetic appeal. The GATEWAY 700X desktop is a harmonious blend of the very best qualities that one could seek in a computer. I have a Master's in Computer Technology so I already knew its potential before I bought it, but when I had a chance to put it through it paces over an extended period of time, I was enormously impressed. First the obvious: it did whatever I asked it to in quick time. Whenever a potential buyer checks out computers, he most often looks at the CPU speed as a barometer of how fast the CPU works. This GATEWAY 700X boasts a 2.533 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, but it is not for that which invests it with lightning. Of equal importance to the CPU numbers is the less recognized internal bus speed. A modest bus number is 133. The GATEWAY 700X hums along at 266, a number sufficiently quick to make even jaded power users smile. When I go online, from the time I start to the time that I am ready to chat is measured in seconds. On my previous Compaq Presario, I had to wait nearly four full minutes for that. Computer salesman like to trump the size of a pc's hard disk storage. When I first bought a pc more than 10 years ago, it had 10 GB for storage, and I never came close to using it all. This GATEWAY has 80 GB, so it's nice to know that if you plan to input a database of several million items, you need not worry about exceeding your hard drive's capacity. The 18 inch LCD flat-panel monitor presents both text and visuals with crystal clarity--no eyestrain here! The speakers are far more sensitive to nuances in sound than you might be used to. The CD/DVD combo works quite well. The numbers bandied about for such devices (48x/40x/12x for the CD and 16x for the DVD) simply mean that what you see on the screen is about a clear as you can get. Not many users care about such arcane concepts as expansion slots. I'll be willing to bet that most do not even know what an expansion slot is, but for those readers of this review who do, rest assured that this pc can be bulked up to rival Colossus in THE FORBIN PROJECT. Further, for those with digital video on the mind, the GATEWAY 700X is a sterling, reliable performer. Finally, the GATEWAY 700X even looks good. Its ergonomic appeal is not unlike the feeling that you might have felt the first time you slipped behind the wheel of your first Corvette. What all the numbers in the salesman's brochures boil down to is this: you can probably find any number of computers that are comparable, but only a few can often first rate performance and reliability at a price that won't bust your wallet. The GATEWAY 700X is just such a computer.

The Finecam L3v makes it easier than ever to remember when and where pictures are taken with voice recording capability, with up to a 30-second message attached to each image. Additionally, an AVI movie mode enables you to record a movie with sound for up to 120 seconds.
Images are stored on Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards; a 16 MB SD card is included.
The camera is powered by a CR-V3 lithium battery (included); two AA-sized rechargeable NiMH batteries are recommended. It measures 4.4 x 2.1 x 1.4 inches and weighs 6 ounces. This package includes the Finecam L3v digital camera, 16 MB Secure Digital card, battery, USB and A/V cables, hand strap, and CD-ROM with imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.

The included battery for this camera at first appeared to be a dud, as it displayed "LOW BATTERY" after only 4 pictures were taken. Though upon turning it on two weeks later, the cam indicated the battery was full. Two people I know who bought this same model told me they had similar experiences, though their batteries 'normalized' sooner than mine. Obviously for this reason I can't recommend this that highly but be aware the battery does contain a normal amt. of power.
For my purposes-mainly photographing items to sell online- this camera is all I could ever ask for. The ease of use and quality of the pics are above par.
In summary, by buying this, you're getting a good digital camera but be aware the battery needs a lot of time to 'break in'.

This is a great camera but which battery will keep its charge to take 50 pictures? I have tried 1800 mah & 2000 mah and the battery gets very low when 10 pictures are taken.

This is a great little camera, and the price is right. However, you'll need to buy 2 more things in order to be able to enjoy using the camera: a bigger memory card; and a recharagable CRV3 battery. Kyocera claims this camera can run on 2 AA batteries as well as the recommended CRV3 battery. NOT TRUE! I tried both Li AA batteries fresh out of the pack and rechargable NiMH batteries, and the camera could take at most 10 photos before showing "low battery". So I got a rechargable CRV3, and took about 100 photos and it still showed full battery. Now you know the worst about this camera.
Otherwise, the camera is great. The image quality is good. The LCD is great - excellent way to take snaps at parties and have the instant gratification of seeing the image right away at a decent size and resolution. The controls are straightforward and easy to use.
If you're looking for a compact camera with advanced point and shoot features, I highly recommend this one.
Great LCD...well maybe.......2003-12-16
Bought this little jem for it's 2 1/2" LCD screen and the 3.2 mp picture quality. The LCD is exceptional and makes it easy to review photos without glasses as well as to share instantly with friends. The size is right also. When riding my Harley Springer it's easy to keep this camera handy for those instant shots (after pulling to the side of the road).
1. The metal case seems bullet proof however when holding it your right thumb rests against a very slippery portion of the camera body. I can almost feel the camera slipping from my hands if not careful. To prevent this I glued a small piece of 400 grit emery cloth to this area and the problem was cured. (Kyrocera take note: place a few bumps in thumb area to enable a better grip!).
2. Outdoor photos are almost 100% overexposed but can be quickly corrected in your favorite photo editing software. This may also be corrected by using the manual white balance.
3. Take your time when making photos because every photo will be blurred if you don't prefocus first (press shutter button half-way down) before taking the actual photo. If you press the shutter button all the way down when taking a photo it will blur everytime!
4. Buy a soft case for the camera for protection. A bought a perfect one at Target for $3.99.
5. The camera and menu controls are extremely simple a straight forward.
Now that I've had this camera for a few months problems have developed. It seems that once installing freshly recharged 2100mAh batteries I get only 2 pictures before it goes dead. A new CRv5 battery($10 each) lasts for 5 pictures. I'm attempting to contact Kyocera today (5/9/2004) and will post results. I lower my rating to 3 stars but it may go much lower depending on Kyocera's response.
(8/10/02) Kyocera never responded to my concerns! I was totally ignored. Traded camera for a 6" wood planner. New rating: zero stars
