5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Value!.......2004-09-27

I love my Epson Powerlite S1. I use it regularly for PowerPoint presentations in office settings and as a big screen TV in our home theatre.

For PowerPoint it does a tremendous job, providing clean, crisp images. For home theatre the room can't be too bright in order to see all of the detail, but that's a small concession to make for a projector that offers ease of use, very good quality, affordable replacement bulb price, and enough power to get the job done - all for under $1000. Very tough to beat this deal!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome projector for the price........2004-04-11

I saw a review about this projector about a year ago on a tv show called screen savers, which airs on tecTv.They gave it a good review so i gave it a try,AN LOVED IT.I only bought it to watch dvd's on an it works perfect for that.I have a huge wall in one room of our house an simply painted the wall white an use it as the screen.A 20 foot screen no less. It's the ultimate home theater, just add your surround sound an boom.No reason to ever leave your house for the movies again.Yes the lights do need to be low,or in my case i like it dark. But its got a great picture an more then worth the price. We've had nothing but fun with it ever since i bought. Its the perfect projector for those on a buget or for anyone that just dos'nt like to waste a lot of money on something like watching movies..............

4 out of 5 stars Good projector!.......2004-04-08

I purchased this projector two weeks ago and I am very pleased with it. When I connect it to my computer the image is very bright and I do not need to darken the room much at all to view it. The room needs to be a bit darker when viewing TV or DVD/VHS movies. My son uses it to play GameCube games--which is really fantastic because of the size of the image! However, for some of the games (Lord of the Rings) we really need to darken the room to see the screen well.

I have used LCD projectors for the past five years in educational settings. This is the first one I have purchased and I am extremely pleased with it. The only negative comment I can make about it is that the zoom feature doesn't change the size of the image by much. I wanted to set the projector on a stand near one wall and project it to the wall on the other side. When I do this the image is bigger than the wall space and I can't change its size by much using the zoom feature. Instead I have to move the projector into the middle of the room and operate it from there. Even with this inconvenience, I still think it is an excellent projector and so far I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see beautiful color images larger than life!

5 out of 5 stars I love mine........2004-03-16

How many people do you know who have 100inch tv's and paid less than $1000. I'm guessing not too many. I guess a picky person could find some faults: not as bright as a tv in a well lit room, no manual lens zoom, makes more noise than a tv. Still I really do love mine. It takes up about 1/100th of the space of a large tv, I can pack it in a backpack if I want to take it to a friend's, I can move apartments without hiring 5 movers to cary it down the stairs, I can play 4 person video games (Mario Kart Double Dash!) and everyone gets their own 50 inch tv, the colors are brilliant, and the price is decent enough.

Go buy one and you won't be unhappy.

5 out of 5 stars S1 Hit of the Party.......2004-03-02

This is a great product.

We had more than 250 digital photos submitted by our Harley Owners Group members to be used in a continuous-loop slide show during a recent party.

We mounted the S1 in a loft and projected the slide show onto a wall 25 feet away making a huge display of the photos. The S1 was on for more than seven hours, performed flawlessly, projected sharp images, was easy to hook up to a laptop computer (the source of the images). The simple operation of the S1 made set up and adjustments quick.

We later used the S1 in our living room to watch a DVD on a 70-inch movie screen. The projector was hooked into the video-out RCA jack on the DVD player. Total set up time: Less than 3 minutes. Again, flawless operation and extremely good picture.

I'd recommend the S1 to anyone looking for an entry level projector with seemingly solid construction, easy-to-understand controls and great features.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Workhorse!.......2007-03-13

Use this in my classroom, it has been on all day, every schoolday for the past FOUR years on the original bulb! (knock wood)
Wonderful machine.

4 out of 5 stars Great Basic Video Projector.......2007-01-19

It's a very usefull video projector, my wife use it for her conferences of 20 to 50 persons and it looks great. I personally use it wiht my XBox in a big white wall and it makes complete different game experince. It is a basic video Projector, with basic features but just enough for my wife and myself and the best is the low price!

5 out of 5 stars Great value, Great picture!!!.......2006-02-27

I've had my Powerlite S1+ for a little over a year now, and I have virtually no complaints. Through some creative shopping, (ie. pricematching and mail in rebates) I only paid about $350 for this projector. I have it permanently mounted in the ceiling of my basement and have a screen that is about 113" diagonal. It has over 1000 hours of use now, and everybody that has been over to watch a movie on it has been totally blown away and they all want one. As far as the $100 component video cable from epson, I was worried about this too until I found a local company that makes custom data cables. I paid $13 for a 15 foot cable that works beautifully. Initially I thought maybe when my bulb wore out I would upgrade to a higher end projector, but now that I've had so much enjoyment out of this over the last year, I'm planning on sticking with it and just buying a new bulb or two.

5 out of 5 stars doctor16.......2006-02-19

This is a magnificent projector, "A lot of bang for the buck" I have been using it since I bought it almost a year ago and have nothing but good comments for the machine. Every one of my neighbors have enquired about it once they see it in action.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and versatile.......2005-09-05

I bought this little projector mostly to attend on-line classes with, and to have a way to play games when my brain was full (which is very often;)). I also wanted a way to watch TV without having a big & ugly TV in my home office. A projector seemed the best solution, so I gave it a go.

The Epson has generous connectivity options, which allowed me to hook it up to numerous video sources simultaneously, and then switch between them all (yeah!). I have it as S-Video from my cable system's DVD R/W recorder, computer / component video from my main computer, and the 3-RCA video/audio (composite) connectors from my x-box.

In fact, the Epson sits right on top of my x-box, making for a highly cool, highly compact gaming unit with awesome capability. It takes a few minutes to transition from gaming in a fishbowl to playing in a life-size environment & getting accustomed to so much motion. Screen is plenty bright, though some of the darker interior scenes from the likes of Halo-1 are best played with the lights down (my screen is about 6 X 8 feet, 1.83 X 2.44m).

The device has fittings for ceiling mounts, but I'm more inclined to the portability of the included carrying case, if anything.
Switching between the video channels is either by hand-held remote or via the little control panel situated on top of the Epson. There is a second remote that is for operating your computer's mouse for presentations, including page up/down & L/R clicking, and it works great on xp pro with the included IR (InfraRed) USB receiver. Sounds complicated but installation was all of plugging the little IR cable/module into a USB port & then playing with the neat-o mouse remote. This is great for remotely fast-forwarding through commercials when playing DVDs through a computer. The projector has IR receivers fore and aft, BTW.

The main remote controls the video input selection, speaker volume (including mute), on-screen menu (very easy to use, with lots of selections for picky people), freeze video, a handy one-button color mode (Theater, Presentation, etc), Aspect ratio (2 settings), and ZOOM.

Video quality largely depends on the type of video input you apply to the Epson, with composite at the low end, s-video in the middle, and computer / component as highest picture clarity. The differences between these input types are about an order of magnitude, everything else being equal. By all means opt for computer / component input! Its like night and day as far as video quality goes.

Presentation fonts come through crystal clear, as do digital images, and watching a cable program or DVD on the unit is great fun (especially through the computer / component video port, where the picture is crystal clear). Although not what you would build a breathtaking home theater system around the Epson is nevertheless a practical, fun, truly plug & play projector that will connect to just about anything and go.

5-stars, among the entry-level projectors.

JVC is one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of sophisticated audio, video and related software products. (3 Modes) Rock/Pop/Classic.

    Amazon.com

Looking for a compact stereo system with slamming low-end authority? Look no further. Whether JVC's MX-GT88 can really be called "compact" may open to debate, but rest assured that the system houses a three-disc carousel changer, a dual-well, full-logic cassette deck, an FM/AM tuner with 45 presets (30 FM, 15 AM), as well as 70 watts per channel for the speakers and a rafter-rattling 160 watts per channel for the system's two large-diaphragm subwoofers.

The speakers are in many ways the focal point of the MX-GT88. Each speaker is outfitted with a 4.75-inch cone woofer, a two-inch cone tweeter, and an additional 7.875-inch cone subwoofer with six-layer voice coils for extra efficiency. The subwoofers even get their own separate, three-position level control.

And no, the massive "giga-tubes" perched atop each of the MX-GT88's speakers aren't jet engines, though they're definitely designed to move air. These ports enhance the system's bass response, working with the high-powered amplifier to deliver low end down to 30 Hz, a full octave of sound below the range commonly achieved by compact stereos.

The CD player offers play exchange, letting you swap two discs while the third plays, and 32-track programming. A single-bit digital-to-analog converter delivers your music with clarity and punch. CD synchro-start recording makes copying discs to cassette a cinch. Three preset equalizer curves and four simulated surround sound settings (dance/club/hall/stadium) grant flexibility in tailoring the system's sound to personal musical preferences.

    What's in the Box
Main unit, two SP-MXGT88 speakers (each with two attached eight-foot speaker wires), RM-SMXGT88J wireless remote control, two AA remote batteries, FM wire antenna, AM loop antenna, user's manual, safety instructions, and a product registration card.

Wow, I'm a definite JVC man for the rest of my life! I just recently upgraded from their 240 watt system to this baby and it has blown me away with it's amazing sound and bass power! The built in giga tubes are amazing and just sitting on the bed between the two speakers while jamming you can seriously feel like a high wind is blowing through at you from two sides! THEY HAVE SO MUCH POWER!! No other system will wow you like this system (well I'm sure the systems that are even higher wattage than this one from JVC will!) GET ONE NOW IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A STEREO SYSTEM!!Q

5 out of 5 stars Great for $129.00.......2004-05-04

We just picked this up at our local Target for a clearance price of $129.00. We needed something for our pool gazebo where we entertain a lot. For the price, its a great sounding system. It was a simple out of the box setup and sounds just right, and it really rocks!!!

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST SYSTEM U CAN BUY..UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!.......2004-04-08

Truly amazing. This system was a STEAL..and I mean a BIG steal. For only $200..amazing. This is everything you could be looking for. The Highs are great with the tweeters and the midrange sounds awesome. But of course the BASS is the big thing about this system. AWESOME BABY!! Has 3 levels u can choose from for the subwoofers and a TURBO SOUND feature which ROCKS. The bass is unbelievable. It will literally "rock" ur crib. I've said rock 2 times now, but I'm not a rock fan..this system is great for Hip Hop and Rap. Rich, smooth, quality, crystal clear music on this baby. MP3s sound SOOOOOO much better and sound like tracks from the studio!! You can turn this baby's volume on full blast! It's GREAT!! The system is stylish and just a blast to play with and use. VERY EASY setup. No stress at all about it. 460 WATTS of Heaven. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who is thinking of buying a high quality sound system. GO GET IT!

    5 out of 5 stars A $250 system with $400 system sound quality.......2004-03-12

I have been shopping for a mini system for over half a year. When the Sony came out with 240 Watts with a 120 Watts subwoofer, I thought that was the best system under $250. However, what changed my mind was the superior sound quality of this JVC system.

The Sonys I tested, one came with 1 subwoofer, the other with 2 subwoofers. Both of the system were good until if I listened to jazz, the bass was too harsh, still in the more heavy metal music range. However, playing disco or club music was fine with the Sonys.

Okay, back to this wonderful JVC system. The second I turned up the volume of this JVC, the mid-range was smoother than the Sonys, the basss was softer than the Sonys, that was up until the moment I realized that there was the Super-Bass button and I pressed it, it was in the level 2 super-bass level, and it was the decisive point. The bass was deeper, smoother, more controlled, more powerful and better suited to different kind of music than the Sonys. In my opinion, the Sonys are only good for heavy metal and games.

This JVC is versatile for different kind of music. I have not mentioned the treble, which was excellent and crisp as well. After I brought it home, I enjoyed jazz music, club music, classical music, and other music types.

Yet, the appearance leaves some room for desire. Despite the good silver color, I do which that the JVC has more higher class appearance than the rest of the competition (such as Panasonic, Philips) which usually try so hard to compete for nowadays young gamers who like audio systems that look FUNNY.

Besides, the JVC does not come with Karaoke function, which is disappointing since no mini system nowadays offer karaoke functions anymore, even Aiwa has abandon the market for the gaming market and put USB input function instead.

All in all, sound-wise, this is the system one should seriously consider for under $250. You save money for not having the need to buy a separate subwoofer and you save space as well. And with 460 Watts total output, you can't go wrong with turning up the volume higher and higher until you feel every wall around you is dancing and shaking.

Yet, JVC, please perfect it by making a up-scale appearance the very next time and a karaoke function.
