lighter duty than believed.......2007-04-04

i followed the usage directions on my shredder. it worked fine for 3 weeks and then jammed and i could not free the paper. i no longer have it and went to another product. i believe that usuallly the fellow shredders i have used have worked better and were been better built. i believe that it is a lighter duty than i expected.

The FS5+ has two shredding modes: reverse or automatic on/off. When the shredder is in the auto position, shredding is activated when paper touches a sensor on the blades; the machine automatically stops when shredding is complete. Reverse mode helps clear paper jams from the blade mechanism.

Very handy, great price.......2003-04-03

I bought this shredder a couple of years ago for home use -- shredding all those credit card offers and other financial papers the experts tell us never to throw out whole. I've been very pleased with its performance, with no complaints there. I like the compact size of the unit -- very unobtrusive. This littler shredder is a great value, and seems to have held up quite well.

Good While It Worked.......2003-01-06

Like another customer commented, this machine did an okay job while it worked, but after about nine months of light usage, it died. The first thing to go out was the trigger that turns the shredder on when paper is first inserted. That broke about three months after we got it. There's sort of a manual over-ride switch on it, though, so you could keep it on if you were going to shred a lot of documents. We would have to use this switch to turn it on to shred even one document after the trigger broke. I would see about having it fixed, but it was really loud when it was working, anyway, so I think we're going to spend more money next time to get a better model. I have to admit that it was pretty quick, though, and it didn't have a problem cutting through two or three pages at a time.

Not bad, but there are better.......2002-11-20

I had this shredder for about 8-9 months before it finally died on me. It does a decent job at shredding five or fewer sheets of paper into 1/4" strips, however; the actual shredding mechanism is not very durable. There are thin metallic disks with serated edges that cut the paper and if one gets out of whack, you are left with an un-shredded area that is (potentially) easily readable.

For about the same price at a warehouse club, I bought a Royal (model 3500, I think) seven sheet, cross-cut shredder that has impressed me from day one. The mechanism is much more heavy duty. This shredder weighs more than the Fellowes and flipping it over shows why. The "teeth" of the Royal shredder are much more substantial and look to be built to last a lot longer than the Fellowes. Another notable difference is in the actual shredding.

For those not familiar, cross-cutting not only cuts the paper into vertical strips, but then cuts the vertical strips into smaller pieces. While the Fellowes FS5 will cut a sheet into around 35 strips, the Royal cuts it into litterally THOUSANDS. You can see how this would improve the "security" and finality of your shredding.

The Royal shredder will also devour your old credit cards - a VERY satisfying experience :-D It sounds wierd, but once you start shredding, you will start searching for things to shred... credit cards applications... old bank statements... cats...

I've owned this paper shredder for about 6 months now and I just love it. It will shread 4-5 pages at a time and it doesn't jam. Works great and is easy to clean. Can't go wrong.

I bought this for a school play. We needed alot of full trash bags, and so I got this to help me shred paper to fill them. It is very fun, but also preety loud. I would recomend this to anyone who has alot of paper that need shredding in a very short ammount of time.

Pocket PCs aren't known as the budget PDAs of the handheld world--these fast, high-color machines are the ones you'll usually find in the $500 range, offering TFT displays and speedier processors than their less costly brethren.

But HP's Jornada 525 sells for under $400, nearly down to the range of the basic PDAs while still offering a lot of the upper-echelon goodies. The Jornada 525 ships with only 16 MB of integrated memory--normally a sizeable amount that gets eaten into quickly by Windows CE and its multimedia capabilities (we were only able to put a couple of MP3 files on the Jornada as it shipped). But you can add up to 128 MB of additional storage with a CompactFlash card. By boosting the storage, the MP3 playback actually becomes a viable option--for patient users.

The patience comes in with the serial connection of the Jornada. This is fine for normal synchronization of notes, e-mails, and other text files, but we found it painfully slow with multiple megabytes of MP3s. Playback of the music files was crisp through the stereo headphone jack and loud even via the built-in speaker. The Jornada ships with serial connection cable, but you can pick up a serial cradle. It also offers infrared transfer, if your PC or notebook offers the connectivity.

Weighing in at only 8 ounces, the Jornada fits snugly in the palm, with indented grips on the rubber sides, and offers four hot keys for quick access to the home screen, contacts, calendar, and tasks list. There's also a voice recorder built into the Jornada, accessible via a thumb button on the left side of the PDA.

Some flaws mar the overall design package: the flimsy CompactFlash slot cover feels like it could snap off easily and the rubber pieces on the top of each side look like they're meant to peel off (they're not) and do so with little resistance. The Jornada 525 also lacks a stylus slot on the device itself (the stylus is stored in the case that houses the Jornada), and the stylus could use a bit more heft.

Nitpicks aside, the Jornada provides a lot of kick from its 133 MHz processor--applications popped open quickly and we were able to multitask with little slowdown. The bright, 8-bit color screen was easy on the eyes and is also sensitive enough to allow touch manipulation.

Running Windows for Pocket PC and shipping with Microsoft Outlook 2000 also means that your Word, Excel, and e-mail files transfer to the Jornada seamlessly. The Jornada also runs on a rechargeable battery (although we didn't quite get the promised eight hours of life), saving on the cost of battery replacement.

While a redesign would definitely add to the Jornada's appeal, as it is it's a respectable Pocket PC for an excellent price. --J. Curtis

this is my first pocket pc that i purchased it to replace my handspring visor. the metal case is very sleek, matched with the color screen, it definitely is a head turner. the rechargeable battery is a nice feature, although the life span is rather short. the serial sync cable included works fairly well but a usb cable would have been better. the infared sync works well with my laptop, but it's much slower than the serial cable. one thing that does annoy me is the fact that you can not store the stylus on the pda itself (like on the palm or visor) rather it stores in the protect sleeve instead. if you get this device you will soon find that the built-in memory is not enough, so i highly recommend getting an additional compact flash memory card. i have used it as an mp3 player but since i store the music on the expansion cf card, reading from the cf slot drains the battery pretty quick. i have also done some light editing of word and excel documents while on the go which works out great.
i also have a cf analog modem and cf wireless card to access the internet, it's not very fast but gets the job done when i need to chek my email. color depth is not all that great, you cannot view pictures or video very well but that might be expecting too much.

It is really elegant for business and it has the basic programs that a business man need.

Don't get this one. It is the old model and is not upgradeable to the new Microsoft Pocket PC 2002. Unless you just want to use this as an electronic address book get the new 560 series.

This wireless antenna works very well and it was simple to install. I simply unscrewed the antenna on my wireless nic card and screwed the antenna connector in. My only problem was that the cord connecting the antenna to the nic is too short. It needs to have a few feet of cord.

I bought this antenna hoping that it would improve signal strength as they advertised 6dB on the box. The performance was worse than the original 2dB antenna that came with my wireless adapter. Back it goes.

I would have to agree with the majority of assessment of this product on Amazon: this product fails on every count.
1. Most significantly, product does not perform as described. Signal strength not "significantly improved." In fact, no change in reception at all. I have used this in my one-story home and in a café I work at with no effect whatsoever.
2. When there is a rebate, it is more trouble than it is work. [...]

...increased my signal strength, but only a little. I finally went out and bought a new Linksys wireless router with SRX200 and - guess what - it increased my signal strength as well - but only a little. In sum, I believe this antenna works as advertised. But I've learned a lesson: next time I'll simply purchase a repeater (but, too late now!)
