this is my first pocket pc that i purchased it to replace my handspring visor. the metal case is very sleek, matched with the color screen, it definitely is a head turner. the rechargeable battery is a nice feature, although the life span is rather short. the serial sync cable included works fairly well but a usb cable would have been better. the infared sync works well with my laptop, but it's much slower than the serial cable. one thing that does annoy me is the fact that you can not store the stylus on the pda itself (like on the palm or visor) rather it stores in the protect sleeve instead. if you get this device you will soon find that the built-in memory is not enough, so i highly recommend getting an additional compact flash memory card. i have used it as an mp3 player but since i store the music on the expansion cf card, reading from the cf slot drains the battery pretty quick. i have also done some light editing of word and excel documents while on the go which works out great.
i also have a cf analog modem and cf wireless card to access the internet, it's not very fast but gets the job done when i need to chek my email. color depth is not all that great, you cannot view pictures or video very well but that might be expecting too much.

I`m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I bought my Jornada 525 on november 2001 and I`m realy happy with this unit.
It is really elegant for business and it has the basic programs that a business man need.
Unnluckily, it was discontinious.

The item itself was fine, but there was not a syncronization cable with it. I had to contact HP to have one sent. I would think that any pocket pc would automatically come with it's cable

This is a great model. Just add a CompactFlash card for more space and some great programs and you've got a great palm! (not that it isn't without all that stuff!)
Watch Out!!.......2002-08-16
Don't get this one. It is the old model and is not upgradeable to the new Microsoft Pocket PC 2002. Unless you just want to use this as an electronic address book get the new 560 series.

HP Support not there for me........2006-01-08
I bought my HP 548 in good faith. Paid good money. When it came time to buy a battery, I got shuffled around the planet talking to the folks (support) in India whom were polite but didn't provide any answers. The result was, I was to the forced to buy (on my own) a questionable battery from another source which doesn't work (it seems to be counterfeit). I'm glad Carly is gone from HP.
HP: How about supporting your products from now on ? Only thing is...I won't be among your customers. Ever.

The product was shipped quickly. But now I cannot get the Pocket PC to connect to any PC. I have emailed the seller numerous times about this and they will not respond to me. Amazon is abolutely no help either, they will not do anything to help me. If I ever do get the problem fixed, I will change the bad rating for the seller.
HP Jornada 547/548.......2003-02-19
Great PDA, beats out any palm type device by a longshot in capability expandability. Only draw back is ever shrinking selection of aftermarket goodies for it due to the processor.
No Pocket PC 2002.......2003-02-03
For its day the 548 was a stunning piece of equipment. I have been a Jornada 548 owner since week 1 of its release. I am disappointed to report, however, that the older Jornada models have been left in the dust by the Compaq-HP merger. Ipaq'ers get an upgrade from the Pocket PC OS to the newer, marginally better Pocket PC 2002 OS. Although the OS is only moderately more useful, it is aesthetically more pleasing and is symbolic of the fact that the 548 will receive little attention or support from HP/Compaq ever again.
Also, the lack of back up batteries is quite a nuisance when you lose all drivers and software because you forgot to recharge the 548. Furthermore, and this may be my error, I never found a car charger for it which would have been useful given the adequate, but not stellar battery life.
I would suggest buying a newer piece of equipment, its worth the dough.

Didn't work as described in instructions. After speaking to tech support for about 5 minutes was printing. Had to configure the port with the IP address of the printer. Now it works flawlessly. An adendum should be included in the instructions or on a website to describe how to configure the port for printing.
5 stars for linux users.......2006-09-14
Yep, it's unlikely windows users will consider this product a winner, but for penguinistas saying "hasta la vista" to the stuff from Redmond , this wireless print server is the way to go. Out of the box things are not promising, Hawking decided not to supply mine with an antennae. Could have sent it back but solved the problem with an expensive but stonking big linksys 7dBi mast that seems to work fine.
The quick install guide states categorically that you can configure it by connecting it via ethernet cable to your network. The only way I could talk to it was by connecting directly from pc to the unit - even then the only way the pc would see it is by rebooting the pc while the unit was connected and powered up.
Next problem for dedicated windows users is the winders setup wizard is quite broken. Even the latest versions and the lastest firmware do not help. If you want to setup standard MS printing, I forsee serious cogitations on the horizon! The Hawking websight is excellent and locating support downloads simple. The regular print server manager manager works fine and one just has to figure how to manually configure the thing without having ones trembling paw guided by the "wizard". It detected my lexmark e232 immediatly and ipp printing was quickly enabled. For linux you really only have to access the unit to fiddle with the wep and set a static ip address. All you need to know about ipp setup is in the quick guide and it's so simple to configure it makes you wonder why anyone bothers with anything else. The unit comes with IPP switched on by default so once you have an ip you are ready to do wireless printing in linux. In KDE Print choose an lpd queue - that's right skip the ipp queues! Works great with Mepis.
Not compatible with many printers.......2006-04-14
I bought this device and there is nothing in the documentation or easily available on the web site that tells the customer that only certain printers are supported. After trying to make the device work for several hours, I sent an email to tech support who sent back an incompatible list of printers. Most of Multi-function All-in-one printers will not work at all. On top of that, just about all the top brands have printers that do not work. This includes HP, Epson, Canon, Dell, Okidata, etc. While I can understand compatibility issues - these should be explained in detail up front on the web site and on the packaging. Do not buy this device until you can assure yourself that your printers will work.
Wireless range a little lacking.......2006-03-25
This hardware seemed ideal for me since I have three printers: an HP LJ1100 using the parallel port, and two USB-connected dye sublimation printers used for photo printing. Also it can use the internet printing protocol, useful since I mostly run my computer on Debian Linux. I had no trouble setting the device up to work under both Windows 2kPro and Linux, using the ipp printing protocol (with CUPS on the Linux side). Perhaps the docs could stand some improvement, but as long as you don't expect spoon feeding and are prepared to think a little, they are quite adequate to set the server up. You should set the printserver up with a static IP address so your printer configurations stay the same.
The main problem I have with the unit is range (unlike a previous reviewer). My wireless router is downstairs in my house, where the TV cable connnection comes in. My desktop computer is in a room directly above the router, and I've had no connection issues such as dropped packets (my router is a Netgear 802.11g), either with Windows 2000 or Linux. The idea of getting the printserver was to move three (two of them bulky) printers off my desk and into the walk-in closet across the hall. This places one more sheetrock covered wall between the router and the printserver. I had all kind of issues with printing (incomplete pages, printer errors) until I placed the printserver in the doorway so that the wall is no longer in the way. Now I can ping it and reliably get no dropped packets, although occasionally a page will come out incomplete (could be the CUPS driver's fault).
I still have a little experimenting to do - perhaps there is somewhere I can locate the printserver so it is out of the way and still catches all the packets, but at least it works. Or I could spend another $30 for a supplementary antenna. And I still need to work with the smallest printer (a HiTi 630PL) which hasn't worked properly through the server. But it only has a small footprint so that it isn't a pressing problem.
So overall I'm a happy camper - I can print, and I have more room on my desk to put stuff.
Do not buy this product! Try this one instead: Apple's Airport Extreme.......2006-01-01
I gave the HWPS12UG hours and hours (actually days) of my time over the past year trying to make it work. I called their tech support several times. It seems they have just one guy working there because I always got him and he was always condescending though he couldn't figure out how to make the thing work. They exchanged the old one, sent me a new one and still couldn't make it work. My father figured out how to install it by playing with IP addresses etc. but when I tried to add a new printer, it threw everything off again.
I finally switched to Apple's AirportExtreme and had my windows computers and iMac's printing to an old Ethernet printer and a new USB printer in seconds using Apple's free bonjour software. I can't believe I wasted so much of my time being frustrated with this Hawkings product that simply is not ready for primetime!

Awesome speakers!!.......2007-09-19
Things to look out for:
Bad
1. You need a 5.1 compatible sound card to get the full effect of the speakers.
2. The Xbox/Playstation/etc. adapter uses only 2 speakers and the sub.
3. If you have limited space, measure for a spot for the massive sub.
4. If you have a large room, you will have to buy extra cords to make it surround. With a smaller room, you can manage.
Good
1. You CAN totally eliminate the bass (if you want to) with a software equalizer (I did it with itunes) and the corded remote.
2. Great sound quality with a good mid-range.
3. Even if you don't have the 5.1 sound card, the 2 speaker/sub combo works really well and sounds great.
4. Extremely easy set-up.
5. Looks Bad A.
6. Haven't yet used it for one, but seems like it could handle great house parties.
7. Don't let the fact that they spelled "surround" wrong deter you, these ROCK!
Overall I'm very happy with these. I don't have a 5.1 sound card yet, but if it's better than the limited sound I have now... I can't wait! You can't beat this price and power. Buy it.

Got these speakers a few weeks ago and I love em'. Been using them for music, tv, and video games. Amazinig sound from the satilites and the sub does its job. Right now I have it set up in a large carpeted room, so I can't wait to see how it will preform im my small, tiled, concrete wall dorm room. My only complaint would be that the back speaker cords are too short, but that should easily be fixed with a cheap RCA cord. Nice work Logitech and thanks for making affordable, high quality systems for us college kids.
Overpowering Bass.......2007-08-25
Even though this system is a bargain, a surround-sound system it is not. It is a 3-speaker system. That's because the far right and left speakers are so dominated by the booming bass as to render them to be nothing more than bystanders.

Well Built Basic Calculator.......2006-09-13
The hp20s is a well build basic calculator that will last through years of use. It was a low end model when it was introduced by HP and doesn't have RPN or any advanced math features, but what it does have is 99% of what most people need in a handheld calculator in a nice package. HP's and TI's latest lower end models are plastic junk in comparison.
Buy it if you can find one at a decent price...

I am not sure if I would buy one of this today but my brother had one I used too much and it was a very nice calculator! I still have it. Well finished, 99 lines of program, 10 memories avaliable, built in programs including a root solver, 3x3 matrix algebra and numerical integration. It is a nom RPN calculator but this is not a problem! Display is only one line and only numbers. It had a very nice manual. A very nice calculator I would like HP to make again. Perhaps with more program lines avaliable. Modern models like 33S are much more powerfull but don't have the same quality. HP-20S was a real HP calculator!
A Great Calculator for that Quick Calculation.......2003-10-05
Let's face it! If you are going to do a complex calculation, you are going to break out your PC and use MATLAB (insert your own favorite mathware here) where you can A) do the calculation right and B) not have a take a coffee break while your graphical calculator thinks.
But so many times a day there is that quick calculation you need to run. What you need is a basic scientific calculator that can handle any of those run of the mill number crunches.
I got my first HP20S as a science fair award when I was in High School and I used it for this purpose all the way to finishing my Masters in Engineering. I left my calculator behind in the lab when I graduated because I stupidly had used it for months wearing epoxy sticky latex gloves (the calculator worked fine, but who wants to use a sticky calculator). I have small hands and I was able to hold this calculator in one hand and make all necessary computation using only a thumb. This is a feature I sorely miss! Also, the keys would go "klick-it" when you depressed them so that you had very nice tactile feedback.
One caveat, I can only speak to the calculator in the image above, and not to any changes that may have been made. Mine was originally purchased in the early 1990's! But boy I miss it!

I have simply fallen in love with this one. There are just very few things that one can say are wrong with this calculator. In fact, i am really having to stretch my memory to find some faults in it.
Someone dropped a cup a boiling tea over it just before one of my major exams. It worked then, and is still working just fine. I love the feel of the keys, since they arent as feeble and non existent as the ones in some of the other ones. It gives you a solid rugged look.
Once you get used to this one, it is going to be very hard for you to switch to anything else. Trust me on this!
Good Calculator but beware of the newer version.......2002-09-07
This calculator is a cousin of the 10B finacial calculator (now discontinued). It's a good calculator with good button feel and a lot of preprogrammed functions including stats. However, the newer models have the keys and faceplate markings written in new colors that are hard to see. The picture on this page is of the old version of the calculator. The colors on the new ones make the calculator much harder to use in my opinion. They seem to get lost on the brown background.
