Customer Reviews:
Frustrated.......2006-06-22
The scanner itself was easy to hook up. Basically, plug it in and you a ready to go. However, with Windows XP, there was some issues. First, this scanner, on the box, says Windows 98 only. Well, Windows XP recognizes the scanner and installs the proper, signed drivers, (using the scanner and camera wizard on XP). However, to use the HP scanning software, after downloading a 54 meg file for the latest software, to be compatible with XP and install UNSIGNED drivers,(I was able to scan ONE thing, then I recieved either the error 2117 message, or that the computer couldn't recognize the scanner). I found that the built in scanning software in Windows XP works so-so. But not exceptable to me.
I used this scanner on my windows ME since 2001. It was cantankerous ;). But I figured how to make it work. Like unplugging it, then plugging back in and restarting my computer. But on the new XP, I thought I had it figured out. Boy was I wrong.
If you get a chance to buy this scanner at a cheap price, it isn't worth it. You will be pulling your hair out before you give up.
I give up! The software is useless even with the updated drivers. I just uninstalled this crummy software. good riddence.
Review for the magazine photo scanners, DON'T BUY!.......2003-11-25
If you are one of those types of people who like to scan stuff out of a magazine, I wouldn't buy this product at all. When I always tried to scan photos from magazines I'd always get this weird light effect across the whole image. The best I can describe it is, you know how if your cable is bad and you see an annoying black bar that keeps going across the screen. Well this was what happened to my magazine scans. I'd get a transparent yellowish bar (pinkish too) that went across the whole photo and editing didn't even help to get rid of it. Honestly my suggestion is if you scan photos for the web from magazine clippings, don't buy this scanner. The images come out terrible, plus the speed is very slow. This product isn't even worth the lowest rating you can give a product on Amazon.
WORST SCANNER IN THE MARKET TODAY.......2003-04-30
HP Deskjets and Laserjets are at the top of its class, but the HP Scanjet series are probably the worst of its class. Why?
I bought an HP Scanjet 3300c,and the following are its weaknesses:
FIRST, its so bulky and big and its not compact
SECOND, its not portable it will get broken when you bring it on the road or to travel
THIRD, its a very very slow scanner, with a very long waiting time for it to warm up
FOURTH, it has no power on button, so ull never know if its actually working or not until its too late
FIFTH, it has the worst programs its so simple that u actually have no use for it except if you get an Adobe or any photo editing software, it does not cater to creative consumers like us
SIXTH, it has the worst software drivers, the 3300c is made in the time of Win98, when i made a switch to WinME and WinXp I never got to use it again effectively and normally, it would work one time, and in the next, the scanner can't be found by the computer and cannot be detected
SEVENTH, it has the worst software support upgrade, the drivers and softwares especially the HP Precision Scan LT just got no support, if it doesnt work youll be helpless.
EIGTH, it has the worst custommer support ever, the technicians cant even fix the scanner, the scanner involves lots of guess work to use, ull use it 10% of the time you own it, 90% of the time just fixing it.
NINTH, low quality for all those who bought this scanner, almost everyone got furiously mad and dismayed, they thought that HP Scanners are good quality, just dont bet on it,you find it quite hard to operate or maybe broken have it replaced immediqately, HP Scanners are unserviceable, you can only have it replaced, that is if youve not yet passed the one year warranty period
TENTH, overall HP Scanners are expensive, bulky, low tech, with very complicated software, andd its downside the hardware itself.
Please phase out this model, it would ruin your HP Scanner line, your other scanners are also not good suffering the same fate, beware of buying this scanner, its a waste of your precious time, and money.
HP Scanjet Series, a waterloo for HP, its like going back to vintage scanners of old.
FAILs TO WORK WITH WINDOWS XP.......2003-02-03
Beware of this scanner, HP is either unwilling or unable to get this scanner to work properly with Win XP. Even after downloading the software that is supposed to get it to function on XP it is still a complete failure.
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.......2002-11-26
This scanner worked fine for me at first. No problems installing the unit to my Windows98 machine using USB connection. Then, after about eight months, I downloaded updated drivers and other software from HP's web site. That was the beginning of the ugly part. After installing the new software, I kept getting an error message saying that the program "cannot find the scanner." I'm embarrassed to say how many hours I spent trying (unsuccessfully) to get the program to "find" the scanner. Finally, I called HP tech support. That was the good part. A very knowledgeable and friendly HP techncian named "Helen" stayed on the line with me for a full two hours (no joke!) trying to solve the problem. The bad part was that, alas, she also was unsuccessful. She concluded that the scanner must be defective. I plan to try installing the scanner on another computer. If that doesn't work, I'll buy another scanner from Amazon.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Koss KS3101 offers everything needed to enjoy favorite DVDs in full-bodied surround sound. The system consists of an audio/video receiver coupled with a single-disc DVD player and a 5.1-channel (left, center, right, left/right surround, and subwoofer) speaker package. The only other things you'll need are a television and a place to put everything. With a little help from your computer's CD recorder, you can even listen to CD-based MP3 files and watch slideshows of digital JPEG photos.
The system is equipped to deliver the full image potential of DVDs when viewed on a high-definition or HD-ready TV. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
The DVD player plays most standard disc formats, including CD-R, CD-RW, MP3-CD, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW--terrific for enjoying homemade DVDs from family and friends. With the KS3101's 50-watt-per-channel AV receiver, you'll get Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound decoding to put you in the jungle with the dinosaurs and in the concert hall with music videos, while a full-function remote control lets you manage the proceedings from a favorite spot on the couch.
The system includes all requisite cabling for hooking up the five satellite speakers and the subwoofer. The DVD player also offers a choice of two digital-audio inputs (one optical and one coaxial) and a single coaxial digital-audio output for channeling DVD or CD audio to a minidisc or CD recorder or, should you wish to do so, to a stand-alone surround receiver. (Keep in mind that anti-piracy software prevents you from making digital CD copies of most DVD soundtracks.)
Other features include five-disc resume play (which lets you restart discs from your previous stopping points), an FM/AM tuner with 20 station presets, and an onscreen display to simplify setup and operation.
What's in the Box
DVD player, five satellite speakers, a subwoofer, a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and all requisite speaker cabling.

Koss ks3101 Progressive Scan .......2006-07-08
Its hard to write a single line for this product its a piece of junk, i bought this a year and half ago .Dont now wher to contact i tried all over again and again no reply finally got to trash i sujjest please dont buy this filty product and make ur modes... nothing is good about this product..... accept speakers
good luck...
excellent sound, great value, doesnt read DVDs...........2005-06-02
This is truly an excellent buy. The receiver/DVD player isn't very stylish, but the speakers produce clear and rich sound, and only distorts when it is turned all the way up. There is no need to run it all the way up though because the system is suprisingly powerful. The menu has a nice individual speaker setup list, so you can optimize each speaker. One word of caution though: DO NOT buy this if you intend to play just DVDs/CDs on it! The player reads disks with great difficulty and only works 7 out of 10 times. I recommend you hook up a better DVD player to the system as a receiver, and use it just for the speakers.
Help.......2005-02-16
Hey was looking at this system because of the price and the tech specs for the price. I wanted to hook it up to my desktop computer so I don't really care if the dvd player busts. Does anyone know if the receiver will still take sound input using a Y-cable to the receiver? thanks
Poor excuse for a DVD Player .......2005-01-17
Player consistently skips chapters as you watch the movie. Does not recognize that a disc has beed inserted half of the time. A very frustrating piece of equipment to use. Poor choice on my part. Money would be better spent some where else.
Still going strong after 1 year.......2004-12-06
I ordered this from Amazon just about this time last year & the KS3101 is still playing every dvd I throw into it...Store-bought, rentals, dvd+ and dvd- that I've burned with my computer. I have a 27" TV with RCA in/out jacks, so I'm no audio or video expert (nor do I have pockets deep enough to become one). The sound is infinitely better than the TV's built-in speakers (the main reason I purchased it), the dvd player is much more compatible than my Panasonic progressive scan dvd player (which I paid about $70 for and won't play dvd+ & has trouble with paper labeled dvd's). I don't expect it to crap out soon (hope not either), but if it did I'd still consider it a good buy for the much, much improved sound quality while watching the tube and the ~300 movies I've watched on it without a glitch.

Customer Reviews:
My baby........2005-03-26
This stereo really is my precious. I feel like Gollum around it. It's so great, it makes me want to cry.
I received it as a birthday present years ago. The story behind it is interesting - the store I purchased this from had a few options; I believe they were all the same GT90's, just with different wattage. The sales clerk decided to sell me a GT90 system with about 150 watts (or something like that). He told me they had just gotten in a return that I would be able to purchase at a discount price. It hadn't even been opened. The customer who returned it claimed it "wasn't loud enough." But it was still unopened.
So, I purchased it with a major discount (something like $240). Then when I got home, we realized the clerk had made a mistake - he had sold us a GT90 with about 460 watts of power! At the time, its value was about $500. So it was quite a deal!
Since then I've fallen in love with this stereo. It's true that the volume is not extremely loud - but in this case it's really quality over quantity (or volume!). This stereo's sound output is so rich, textured and deep that it feels as if you are at a concert sometimes. If you use the Stadium preset, turn up the bass and crank up the volume to 30 (its maximum), you'll be blown away.
I was afraid this would be the sort of stereo that just "looks cool" but has no quality. However I've had this puppy for about three or four years now and it's still in top-notch shape. There are a few designs on it that serve no purpose other than looks (such as the fake bolts and nuts on the speakers) but who cares? It really is a monster - huge giga-bass speakers, a massive central unit.
And the huge surprise is that its size is a relatively good reflection of the system itself! This thing is awesome. If I ever have to buy a new stereo system, I'm going to buy another GigaTube. Highly recommended!
awesome stereo.......2003-04-12
i just got this stereo a couple of days ago and i really rhink its awesome. It has 460 watts of great sounding power, plenty of thump to knock your stuff of the walls (the way i like it). I already had a Philips fwc-788 but i wanted more power so i bought this. i dont reret it but there is some draw backs with the stereo, first of all my Philips goes louder than this one but the JVC has more thump to it, and second of all the cd player takes a few minutes to play, other than that its the best. my cousin is so jealous of this thing. my neighbors havent sid anything to me (yet). when you unpack this thing you will be shocked at how HUGE this thing is. i had to make some ajustments with my dresser to fit it on it. my only concern about this is i have never really trusted JVC with stereos before and now i am and i hope it lives up to the reputation of working for years, oh and by the way my clock has kept the exact time since i had it pluged up and that was about four days ago. i hope this has helped some people on understanding this stereo. good luck and go for the JVC MX-GT90
Awesome but...........2002-06-26
This system is great. The quality of sound is the best that i've ever heard from a shelf system this size. Clear sound, resonating bass and powerful structure are all some of the goodies that come with the package. My only concern however, is that there is almost no volume from level 1 to 12. This is the only minor with it. Other than that it will ROCK YOUR WORLD!!! really, this has incredible power. 460Watts never sounded so good! Great sound modes, three of which you can set yourself. Easy recording capabilities. This is a MUST HAVE ONE BECAUSE HE HAS ONE kind of item. GET ONE NOW!!! you won't regret it.
Best Noise Ever.......2002-05-31
This thing is the best i have ever seen. It is so loud. Anything over half volume and the house is shaking. There is nothing more to say, it is great
giga tube.......2002-05-04
I just bought the giga tube about 3-days ago.
I really love this system! So much power and bass!
It feels like i have a home theater system.
If you want a big shelf system with lots of power,
and dont want to spend tons of money on a home theater
then get the 460 wat GIGA-TUBE!!!!

Kodak, 24 Exposure, Gold 100 Speed, 35 MM Color Print Film, Carded.
Amazon.com Product Description
Kodak Gold 100 film features excellent color accuracy and saturation, as well as high sharpness and resolution. This film provides excellent results when shooting under daylight conditions or shooting close-up shots with a flash. It allows the photographer a wide exposure latitude--from two stops underexposure to three stops overexposure.
Customer Reviews:
Great clarity for the price..........2001-05-06
After trying a few of the more expensive 100 speed films under bright daylight I compared the results to that of this film and was happy to find little to no difference. I had expected the pricier film to have more color saturation or clarity but in the pictures I took I could not detect much difference at all between the pricier film and regular Kodak Gold 100.
You will need to shoot with a flash close to the subject, or under daylight situations, but the clarity and color depth of the pictures you get make it well worth it. I use Kodak Gold 100 Speed film whenever possible now, and my pictures come out great from both my canon rebel eos, and my cheaper canon point and shoot.

ASIN: B0000AE6AO |
Product Description
400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL is a fast, fine grain black and white film, ideal for pictorial and fine art photography. This improved version builds on the quality and reputation of ILFORD 400 DELTA. Compared with 400 DELTA, it has finer grain, better tonal rendition and a true 400 speed. Prints made from 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL film exposed at EI 400/27 have very fine grain and outstanding sharpness. In fact the results are similar to those expected from a conventional medium speed black and white film. The superb image quality of 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL means that it is possible to use this film in situations that would usually require a medium speed film. Its EI 400/27 speed rating, however, allows the use of higher shutter speeds or greater depth of field than with a medium speed film while giving similar quality results. Additionally, the fast speed of 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL ensures excellent results in low lighting conditions. 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL is more than an ISO 400/27° film. Its exposure latitude allows good quality results to be obtained over the exposure range EI 200/24 to EI 1600/33. 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL is compatible with all major processing systems and can be processed in all popular developers. With 400 DELTA PROFESSIONAL, ILFORD has created a truly remarkable black and white film. Thanks to revolutionary core shell emulsion technology, it has a level of sharpness and freedom from grain that belies the film's light grabbing ISO 400 speed. What gives? I rate this a 5 because Ilford is excellent film, but I am a little gun-shy about buying it here because the product title and the image don't correspond.

Amazon.com Product Description
Once again, Nikon has upped the ante in the world of digital cameras with the introduction of the Coolpix 5000. Its 5-megapixel sensor, 28-85mm zoom lens, and extensive controls make this a great choice for discriminating photographers seeking a digital camera with filmlike quality and SLR-style manual controls.
In a departure from previous flagship Coolpix models, the 5000 is very compact (much smaller than the older 900-series models) and looks more or less like a traditional point-and-shoot. It does not employ the trademark Coolpix swiveling-lens design; instead, on this model, it's the LCD display that does the swiveling. The screen can be flipped out from the camera body and rotated for easy viewing from any shooting angle--it even works for a self-portrait. An added bonus to this design is the ability to tuck the vulnerable display inward for protection when the camera is not in use. Of course, images can also be composed by looking through the traditional optical viewfinder.
The Coolpix 5000 features a 3x zoom lens--the most common power for zoom digital cameras. It's the range that sets the Coolpix apart--its widest setting is an unusually wide 28mm, perfectly matching the wide-angle setting on most SLR cameras. Almost every other digital camera's wide-angle starts at 35 or 38mm. The all-glass lens features nine elements in seven groups.
Power is provided by a proprietary lithium-ion EN-EL1 battery rated for approximately 100 minutes of use (battery and charger are included). If you're worried about getting caught in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery, the camera also uses a standard disposable lithium 2CR5 camera battery. Unused lithium batteries hold their power for years, so you'll probably want to toss one of these into your camera bag as a backup. For hardcore photographers, there's also an optional power pack/hand grip that uses six AA batteries and offers several times the power capacity of the rechargeable pack.
We've come to expect Coolpix cameras to offer an extensive set of manual controls, and the 5000 offers sports than we can list here, including shutter speeds from 1/4,000 to 8 seconds, shutter priority, aperture priority, and full manual modes, manual focus and white balance, ISO ratings from 100 to 800, and numerous other settings to let photographers capture any shot they can dream up. See our product specs for more details.
An extensive selection of accessories has helped to make Coolpix cameras favorites with serious photographers. From wide angle and telephoto add-on lenses to an adapter that lets you use the camera as a scanner for your slides and negatives, Nikon offers enough add-ons to create a system that meets all of your needs.
Shutter lag--the delay between the time you press the button and the moment the camera actually captures the photo--is a problem with most digital cameras, and the Coolpix 5000 is no exception. The camera can take over a second to snap your picture after pressing the button, which can be an unacceptably long time, especially if you're trying to take a picture of a quick-moving subject. Most of this delay can be eliminated by prefocusing--composing your shot, then pressing the shutter button halfway down to allow the camera to adjust the focus and metering. When you're ready to take the picture, press the button the rest of the way down, and the shutter will snap almost instantly.
Movie mode captures movie clips with audio at resolutions of 320 x 240 pixels at approximately 15 frames per second for up to 40 seconds. This feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative.
The Coolpix 5000 comes with a rechargeable EN-EL1 battery and charger, a 32 MB CompactFlash card, video and USB cables, lens cap, neck strap, and an impressive software suite that includes Genuine Fractals LE. The camera is covered by a one-year warranty.
Customer Reviews:
Still a great camera.......2005-07-14
Even in mid 2005 the Nikon Coolpix 5000 is a remarkable digital camera. In skilled hands this camera can produce results that rival even today's best professional digital cameras.
I've made several 16x20 prints from images taken with the Coolpix 5000 that look AMAZING. If you add the available wide angle lens to this camera you can get a fabulous 19mm wide angle lens!!! Nikon even offers an amazing fisheye lens for this camera.
Like any digital camera (or film camera for that matter) this camera has its flaws and limits. Even though it's capable of producing excellent images, it's a slow camera. So, if speed is important to you this camera is not a great choice. Likewise, some of the controls are burried in the menu system and this camera is really designed for EXPERIENCED photographers ... most "point-and-shoot" photographers have a very hard time using this camera.
There are newer cameras on the market ... but the Coolpix 5000 can still compete with the best of them. If you want a good digital camera capable of super-wide-angle photography, the Coolpix 5000 and the available wide angle lens is the BEST buy on the market today. As of July 2005 you can buy this camera and the available wide angle lens in excellent used condition for less than the price of most new point-and-shoot digitals that deliver WORSE image quality.
Can't See in the Dark.......2004-11-30
I have had this camera for a while now, and I have taken some excellent pictures with it. I use a Macintosh, and it works with the computer beautifully, in contrast with the Olympus camera that I owned previously. The adjustable screen is nice and the zoom suits my needs. However, I cannot get this camera to work in the dark. It just wont. I went searched the manual for an answer and found none. It drives me insane. It's great for daytime shots, but in low light I might as well not have it. I'm still glad I bought it, but I was dissapointed by this aspect.
Nice Pics, Frustrating Camera.......2004-03-10
The photos I've taken with my Coolpix 5000 are pretty good, though it has a lot of trouble adjusting to indoor lighting, even with the $100 Nikon SB-30 flash attachment.
But this can be a VERY frustrating camera to use. Besides the now-standard but always annoying delay built into virtually any piece of digital equipment (I thought digital was going to make things faster, not slower, didn't you?), the Coolpix 5000 will often just decide it's taken enough pictures for now, thank you very much, and it will do nothing more.
I've gone over and over the instruction manual and can find no hint as to what to do in this situation. I am focused, I have checked lighting, I have my settings correct, I push the button...and then I push it again...and then I push it again, and then again, and again and again and again, and then I hold it down until my finger hurts, and then I just want to throw the stupid camera in front of an asphalt truck. Nothing happens. If I turn it off and then back on, nothing happens. If I turn it off and leave it alone for 24 hours, then it usually is ready to have fun again.
Surprisingly, the kids have lost interest in posing for pictures and are getting a little cranky after waiting 24 hours for the camera to get its act together.
"System Control" Failed after a year: $244 Nikon repair.......2003-10-26
Except for it being unresponsive (by the time it's ready to shoot, the moment is gone) it's been a good camera for the 16 months I've had it... but it failed recently, and Nikon had little to say about why, how, or how I could prevent it from happening again. In fact, the people at Penn Camera seemed to be surprised that I wanted to know exactly what work was done ("Nikon never gives that information"). After explaining it by way of analogy---"what if when you picked up your car from repair shop, the serviceman said 'we fixed it... you don't need to know what specifically was wrong, or what we did, you just need to pay up' ... how would you feel? Seems criminal, doesn't it."---they came around, but still couldn't tell me anything.
So... I'm no longer a happy Nikon customer. If you're thinking of buying Nikon products, factor reapir costs in to the price.
Give you greatest satisfaction.......2003-09-27
I am one of many people who recommend this camera. I used many digital cameras including SONY and Olympus camera and got no good impression from those. My recommendation comes from the granularity of pictures taken. Pictures of other cameras found to be deteriorated when magnified using Photoshop. Coolpix 5000 gives clear images even when magnified to 800%! That granularity proves and certifies the sharpest image ever achieved in digital cameras. Every picture taken gives you greatest satisfaction in whatever photo scenes you encounter.
