The jumpdrive was ready to go as soon as I plugged it in. It is small and the cover clicks into place so as not to get lost. The design of the clip to attach to a keychain or anything else is such that it is not flimsy, I have no concerns about losing it. It's small enough so that I haven't had any problems fitting it into those small spaces provided on some computer. I love it!

I purchased this item (the 1 GB) about a month ago or so. I have been very pleased thus far and have used it to transfer numerous LARGE photos and MP3's. It has worked without a hitch. It is also great to organize word documents on, especially in graduate school where many professors are requiring the use of one. The only reason it doesn't get a deserved 5 stars is becuase already my cap is looking like it about to come off for good. However, I see no reason why this will effect the use of the product daily.

So perhpas I should as well! I am about to order this this Jumpdrive. I currently have the 128 MB version and LOVE it! The plastic casing is sturdy, the transfer speeds are excellent for an 80x drive and it works fine without the cap. I have been carrying mine around capless in my pocket with a scandisk cruser mini (from work) and my cell phone and have had no problems.

After over 2 years I have had no software problems, or reasons to reformat the drive. I'm even using it with the FAT16 preset.

If the 1GB version is like the 128MB version, don't pass this up!

I will change my review to reflect the 1GB version once I have tried it out.

I have been using the 1GB version w/o the cap and it is good as gold! I have no complaints so far!

Lexar JumpDrive a Bad Deal.......2006-01-08

My opinion: I purchased a silver Lexar JumpDrive Secure II 256MB several months ago (Wal-Mart seems to have an abundance of these units). For starters, the slim silver and black unit has major design flaws.

First, the hole for attachment to your key ring is so small and square that it will not fit my standard key ring.

Second, the attachment point is the cap of the Lexar unit, rather than the memory unit itself. Meaning, if the cap is accidentally separated from the unit, you are SOL - the memory unit is gone and you have a plastic cap dangling from your key ring (assuming you can get the cap to fit on a key ring).

Third, I found the "Secure II" software cumbersome and confusing. I could not successfully load and install the software and, therefore, never was able to utilize the security feature.

Lastly, the JumpDrive crashed and my computer generated a message asking if I wanted to "re-format" the drive. No thanks. Fortunately, all of my data was backed-up and I look forward to smashing my little Lexar with a hammer to vent my frustration. The USB flash drive is a great concept .... I just need to find a brand that has it together better than Lexar.

Watch out for the cap!.......2005-11-20

Hi. This device has made my life much easier to access my files at a moment's notice. I've had it for just over a year now. No major functional problems.

I usually have the device on a chain around my neck. A few months ago, I noticed that the cap had become slightly loose, probably from daily use. A few weeks later, I lost it and I've been capless since.

So, if you do invest in the Lexar jumpdrive, watch out for that slack cap!

Actually, I've experienced a similar problem with the Jumpdrive (see DoctorMoon's review). I use OS X, and I get an error message when trying to copy files with certain special characters in them. From what I can tell, the Jumpdrive specifically has problems with slashes "/" or "\" as used when naming files with dates, or in certain Microsoft Entourage script files. I solved the problem by changing all the slashes to periods, or just not including those particular files on the Jumpdrive.

Besides which, it's not very nice of you all to go around calling someone an idiot when they have a legitimate problem!

Great external storage device.......2004-06-07

I've used several external storage devices for backing up my projects and carting them back and forth between work and home and the Lexar JuimpDrives are by far and away the best I've used. I own both the 256 meg and the 1 gig versions and use them heavily (dozens of times a day). I've never had a lick of trouble with either one. They're tough, they're fast and on a modern OS (I use XP, 2000/2003 server and Fedora from Redhat) they work fabulously.

I have no idea what Doctor Moon is talking about - he's clearly confused or lying. I backup web page projects that have some of the longest file names you'll see (100 characters and up) and don't have a problem (where as CD burners will - thus I back up all my web projects to JumpDrives).

One tip: if you're using these exclusively on systems with NTFS (2000/2003/XP) be sure to format it as NTFS before using - it makes a big performance difference.

doctormoon is probably not telling the whole story about his filename pronlems - what did he do to screw things up? The Lexar is amazingly fast & reliable and works in Windows AND Linux which is quite the opposite of the Sandisk product he claims to prefer. Do not get a Sandisk usb drive - it sucks. Do a google for Sandisk Cruzer & you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, I highly recommend the Lexar Jump Drive.

DoctorMoon, the reason you can only get eight characters is probably because you are trying to use this with DOS or Windows 98 (Same Difference) or because you do not actually own one.

If you use this on a Mac or Win 2000 (not tested XP), you can load it with as many characters as your OS and the application will allow.

The Jump Drive is just about the coolest gadget you can get your high school or college child these days, except maybe an iPod, iPodMini, Archos AV320, or a PocketPC 2215.

Encrypt your files in case you lose your JumpDrive.......2003-12-25

I love this JumpDrive! It's a cinch to use and the transfer speed is excellent, once you format it for NTFS as mentioned by another reviewer.

I also used PGP to encyrpt my files in case the drive should fall into the wrong hands. You can get PGP Personal Desktop at www.pgp.com, or there are a number of other encryption programs available. I was worried about a complete stranger getting access to my financial info, but after hours of fiddling I couldn't get the Windows XP Professional encryption system to work (I copied my private key to another computer but it still wouldn't decrypt), so I went to a third-party program.

I keep all of my files, personal and business, including my Outlook personal folders (the outlook.pst file) on this drive. I have configured Outlook on all of my computers to access the outlook.pst file on the JumpDrive directly, to avoid having to copy the file back and forth, and it works seamlessly and quickly.

I work on four computers regularly so for me this solution is much better than using a laptop (I've had bad experiences with laptops!).

I highly recommend this device for yourself or as a gift.

This DVD player is the pitts! I have replaced it on 3 different occasions and it breaks with in 30-45 days. I will not replace it again. Before it broke it would load S-L-O-W...save youself the hassle pay 50.00 more and avoid the frustration, Unless you prefer frustration then by all means Buy Mintek!

Do NOT waste your money!.......2005-04-16

This DVD player is a piece of JUNK!!! Broke after about 5-6 months and my friend's broke even sooner (we bought at the same time in the same store) We were "lured" by the price - $170, but you get what you pay for, right? And no, the kids weren't playing with it in the car. The customer service is.... well there IS NO customer service. The worst company I have ever dealt with. We purchased more expensive unit, by a different manufacturer of course, and it's working great (with the same kids in the car, so I doubt THAT was the problem). I really wish I read the reviews before wasting my money on this ...#$^&^%$#...

Works Well So Far...NOT.......2005-04-11

Update: Broke a few months ago! Well, you all warned me. But it was good while it lasted.

The best thing about this player for us is its ability to play a variety of formats. Practically any video that you can burn on your DVD burner or CD burner can be played on this thing.

Of particular value to us is its ability to play regular DVD data disks with MPEG video files burned onto them. This means that you can grab any .MPG file off the Internet (from sites sharing non-copyrighted material, such as indymedia.org), burn it directly to a DVD (e.g., using Nero) with no time spent transcoding data to regular DVD or VCD format, and play it on this player. We keep it hooked permanently to our TV and use it to view all sorts of content that we download from the Internet. In addition, we have a PC-based Video Recorder that works like a VCR and that generates .MPG files, so we just burn those to DVDs in the manner described above and play them on our regular TV.

Not only does this player read video files burned onto standard ISO DVD+RWs, but it can also read UDF-formatted DVD+RWs. Unfortunately, while UDF can handle files larger than 2GB, and ISO cannot, if you have a very large video file you can put it on a UDF disk but only the first part of the file will play on this player (after which it simply stops playing). But who would have expected it to work with UDF at all?

We have so far not had any quality issues, other than a quirk that it has of freezing up sometimes if you are fast-forwarding (using the remote control) and then go directly to play. The way around this is to always hit pause to exit fast forwarding and then go to play. If we follow this rule, there is never a problem.

Sorry to hear about all of the quality issues and am running with the lid closed to save the LCD now, so thanks for the warnings.

Output to television too dark (0 IRE instead of 7.5 IRE).......2005-03-20

In addition to everything else, it's bad for playing DVDs out to a television. The video that it outputs is too dark. I was puzzled so I tested it on a professional video monitor. Instead of outputting a video signal with the "black level setup" value at 7.5 IRE (the standard for American NTSC televisions), the Mintek is outputting a signal at 0 IRE (the NTSC-Japan and PAL standard). This is not changeable. What a pain. If you were ever thinking of hooking this up to an American television, think again. Yes, I know that some DVD players pretend it's a picture-enhancing feature to allow 0/7.5 IRE switching (some manufacturers call it "black level expansion"), but really that switching is just to allow better compatibility with different TV systems. This model flunks.

What A Piece of Junk.......2005-02-12

Got one for my birthday. Broken right out of the box. Returned it to my friend. Took six weeks for a replacement. Opened the box, still broken. Returned it to the Mintek company and that is the last I have seen of it. It has been three months of long distance phone calls to a company that really does not care. KEEP AWAY from a Mintek!!!

Rock Solid For 4 Years.......2007-08-02

You don't need the WET54G unless you are doing high end video or gaming. This is great for PC-PC and PC-Printer. I have had one for 4 years and it has been a champ. Bought another one so I wouldn't have to listen to my printer humm and warm up my office (moved it to the next room).

Perfect tool for some.......2007-07-07

If you have a wireless router and need to connect wired devices at a distance, without running a long cable, this product provides the answer--maybe the only answer. It has an antenna to connect to the wireless router and a LAN port that behaves like one of the wired LAN ports of the router. You can connect a single device such as a printer or computer, or you can connect another router or switch and create a local wired network extension to which you can connect multiple wired devices. Given the street price of multi-function routers, the price of this wireless bridge is higher than I'd expect, but I figure that's likely because the volume of production is much smaller. I gave it four stars rather than five because setting it up is a little tricky, but once it is properly configured, it works very well.

Simple and Quick.......2007-04-25

Very simple and easy to use.

I'm using it at the house right now, but I plan on putting it on the boat soon to get internet down below. Great product, easy to use and was just what I was looking for.

It is possible to set it up to Automatically connect to any open access point within range. Simply set it to DHCP and set the SSID to "any" and forget about it, when something open is in range you connect, when there isn't well it just keeps looking. Should be perfect for the boat.

Accessories.......2007-02-01

Apparently, this product was shipped 'used' meaning that it did not come with a disk, instruction manual or cable. I returned it. I still don't know if I got my money back for it, including postage. My advice is to go to a store for computer accessories, it can easily be exchanged or returned. The wireless router that I ordered in conjuction with this from a different vendor was easily handled, no questions asked. They gave me a credit right away.

Works great for XBOX live, but fragile.......2006-05-16

My wireless Linksys router is upstairs at the other end of house. I use this to play XBOX live and I play every week at least once. This works flawlessly, just plug into back of XBOX and play if you don't use WEP encryption which I don't. One word of caution is that the bridge is very fragile. Don't drop it and don't leave it plugged in unless on surge protector.
