The clarity these headphones possess is phenomenal compared to the other wireless headphones I have used. BUT you must be in front of the TV / Projector, etc for these to work. A direct line from the headset to the receiver is required, even your hand or lots of hair in front of the earphone receivers can chop the sound up a little bit. THESE ARE DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE PERSON WHO WANTS TO WANDER AROUND AND LISTEN TO THE TV OR MUSIC. One nice thing is, when you lose the signal, it is silent instead of hissing in your ear like the other mgHz type headphones. Surround and regular TV sound great. Happy with my purchase.

Not bad but some signal break-up.......2007-08-19

The sound from these headphones is very good. I have only noticed some issues with the signal breaking up including using them a normal distance from the base unit. However, it has not happened a great deal.

Didn't perform to expectations.......2007-07-30

These headphones are marketed as 5.1 but they are actually 2.1. The bass was great. The response and sound was great. But the surround was just a echo made to sound like you were in a bubble. NO front and rear sounds, just pretend.

Returned, wouldn't keep them, would never buy or recommend them.

Impressive but lacks too much to be perfect! .......2007-07-27

Very nice price product. Still doesn't compare to Bose though. However, sound is clear and crisp. Cluttered at times with certain materials. (Video game console specifically) It kind of sucks that you can't adjust BASS or TREBLE. This makes for richer sound but without it--you get too much Treble sound--meaning--the sound is extremely high pitched. For example: Gary Thorn from ESPN on the game NHL 07 sounds like a mouse talking from some cartoon. In real life he has deep voice and on game. However, with these headphones, his voice sounds so high-pitch that it's very noticeable.

The best in the past, lets move to the future!.......2006-12-27

First off let me say That I have owned this product for 5 or 6 years now, or at least since it first came out. It was made at the time and for the time of recording VHS movies from one VCR to another. When it was first out DVD's were just being markeded and an average junk DVD player was no less than $100.00 If you wanted anything back in that day to help you copy and back up your VHS movies, this was the product!! It took the Macrovission right out! And made the picture in my opinion look better if not exactly like the original. But keep in mind that it was your VCR doing the recording, all this little box did was take the copyright protection out. With out a nice VCR your recordings will always be bad. But with a good player and a good recorder this product was the best. Years have passed, and most people own DVD players now, and day to day more and more people are getting home DVD recorders. Now that we have DVD's and DVD recorderd we want to start backing up our old VHS to DVD right!?! Of course but unless we are burning Warner Brothers VHS movies, select New line, Paramount and Trystar older than 95 we have that macrovission problem. If you wanna Back up an Old Disney VHS for the kids, you can forget it!! Disney doesn't care about anything but how much money they can squeeze out of you, this is why all and every Disney flick since the begining of time has the best in protection money can buy!! CAn this product take care of it? Yes, it can, but only for VHS to VHS. If you want this product to copy your VHS films onto DVD, it is just far to old of a product with all the wrong filtering. This product was great in its day, but as everything moves on, and gets better we all have to do the same. So I have been told that if you do want to Burn your movies either VHS or DVD to your home DVD recorder you are really wanting to get a product called DVD Red PRO. look that up and I am sure you will like what it says.. I have been "backing up" my movies all my life, trust me, I know my electronics, if you have any questions about burning, recording, or anything that has anything to do with the sort feel free to ask me any questions. I got an answer for you!

A waste of time and money.......2004-09-09

If you are considering purchasing this thing to make copies of commercially made VHS tapes to DVD, don't waste your time or your money because it is essentially useless for that purpose, the resulting copies are horrible, grainy, and with jittery lines in the picture, etc. Some people say this thing will remove the Macrovision protection which is responsible for the wavy lines and such, but forget it, it will not, at least not to any kind of acceptable degree. As far as I know it is legal to make a backup copy of original tapes that you own, for your own personal use under the "fair use" provision, just as you can make an archival copy of computer software, as long as it is for your own use, and not to sell etc. The only reason I gave this thing 2 stars is that it might prove useful for transferring home videos to DVD although I have not tried that yet.

To electronics fan from San Francisco, what you are doing IS illegal. You can only make one copy of a DVD that you own. Copying DVDs from Netflix is illegal - it doesn't matter if you never sell them or never watch them, it's a violation of the Copyright Act.

Copies, but not perfect copies.......2003-11-13

This is a good product, but be warned: despite the company's claims (not repeated on Amazon's page), it doesn't make a perfect copy of every tape or DVD.

When I used the Video Copymaster to record (onto VHS) my DVD of Bridget Jones's Diary, the finished tape had several horizontal lines running the picture. I wrote to the manufacturer and got this response: "Sounds like a macro-vision [i.e., copy protection] problem. Our products do not remove the copy guard. It's is [sic] still present, so you may experience some problems. Depending on your devices and the release of the tape."

The company's website (http://www.simacorp.com/) claims that the Copymaster "[m]akes perfect copies of any video automatically." Replace the word "perfect" with "watchable" and that sentence becomes true. As things are, because of the company's false advertising, I give it only three stars out of five.

Useless - buy an old one on ebay.......2003-08-20

This decoder comes with a warning label that it is unlawful to use it to copy VHS tapes that are copyrighted, but the warning is wasted because they have manufactured it so as not to work anyway. This is a useless device. Mine is in the trash.

Nice while it lasted........2007-08-23

Worked really great for 372 days, then it died.

At first I thought it might be a loose connection since it was buzzing, but no luck on that front. I even swapped to a different cable, reset the receiver setting, etc. but no luck. The auto-detect feature that turns it on when detecting a signal still works (light turns green), but no sound comes out no matter what the volume setting.

I have a 7.1 all Athena Home Theater system (AS-F2.2 fronts, AS-F1.1 surrounds, AS-C1 center, AS-B1.1 surround backs, and AS-P6000 subwoofer).
Performance wise, I am happy with my system including the subwoofer

Why the 2 stars then?
The subwoofer's amplifier failed about 2 weeks ago, 2 days before the expiration of the 1 year warranty.

I was able to reach an Athena Tech Support Rep by phone without being on hold. He was knowledgeable and pleasant, and referred me to an authorized repair shop in Florida (Simply Speakers), where they were also very responsive. I am still waiting for it but so far the experience dealing with both companies has been positive.

BUT... in the process I've learnt that these amplifiers are prone to failure, and if that is the case, a 1 year warranty is too short. The standard warranty for the other Athena speakers is 5 years. Subwoofers from other brands have longer warranties Velodyne 24 months, Polk 36 months. Boston Acoustics 60 months. JBL 5 years.

I was lucky (if you can call that luck) that it failed before the warranty expired... That still meant spending $60 in shipping and handling, plus being without a subwoofer for what I'd expect to be at least 30 days or more to allow for transit time and repair time.

So, I'd rather be "luckier" and have a unit that does not fail.

If it had failed outside of the warranty period I would have purchased a replacement from one of the other brands mentioned above, instead of sending it for repair, because in such case it would cost $60 S&H to send it, plus another ~$60 S&H to ship it back, plus parts and labor... It's not worth it versus buying a new one.

AS-P6000.......2007-05-08

+'s: The AS-P6000 product is fairly good, Bass response is very good, speaker is decent. Life on the AMP, that is another story. -'s: I'm waiting to see if they back up their product.

AS-P4000 amplifier died .......2007-03-21

My AS-P4000 amplifier fried 1 week before the 1 year warranty was over (thank god). The rest of the components carry a 5 year warranty but I was worried from the day I bought it.

I use the speaker-in inputs as opposed to the line-in because my receiver doesn't have a sub-out (O.K., I know, time for a new receiver). Anyway, I didn't push this thing very hard so was very surprised to discover it wasn't working one day.

I like and own other Athena speakers but probably wouldn't buy another of their subs. In any event, they've been bought out by Klipsch (since Klipsch bought API who owns Athena).

Save Your Money.......2007-02-10

Not impressed. Rarely used and only watched around 10 movies until the amplifier died. The sound was not great either. The subwoofer alone is cheap. Looked at it and laughed. The warranty on this is not good. Be advised. Find a good company with a good warranty. Stay away from this company.
