Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great design, great pictures.......2007-09-23

I've had this camera for about 5 years now and it's still going. It's reliable, takes good pictures {for the 2.0 megapixels it has}, and it's easy to carry around.

I take pictured constantly and this camera has held up really, really well. I would even recommend it for someone who wants to buy it now, 5 years after its release date - but for casual shooting only.

The downside is the blurriness of specific "scene" modes - night scenes as well as the "indoor" scene mode. If you keep it on portrait mode though or just manual, it's more than fine though.

4 out of 5 stars Great little camera for its time.......2007-09-19

This is great little camera. A little slow to actually take the photo but otherwise very user friendly.

5 out of 5 stars my long life camera.......2007-03-30

My dad brought me this camera when they first come out. I had it for over 6 years and everything works great....my battery still alive and it tooks nice pictures. Just until recently, i found some kind "oily" spot appera on the every my pictures. I guess it is old enough for me to retire.

3 out of 5 stars I'll miss it . . ........2006-11-14

My Nikon 2500 Coolpix camera died on me today after 3 faithful years of service. The murderer has been apprehended. She is said to be a mischeivious 18 month old girl with an appetite for shiny objects with buttons. This is not her first murder conviction and it probably won't be her last . . .

This camera was my first digital camera and I used the heck out of it! At last count I have taken over 200,000 pictures. I used it for an online buisness and for personal family use. I bought it refurbished so I expected it to have problems from the get-go, but it was great up until it's early demise.

The amazing unique feature on this camera was the tilting lense feature. I can't tell you how many times I used it. The camera was also very easy to use and understand, especially for the beginner - like I was. The battery life was Okay, it usually died on me after about 100 shots.

The flaws on this camera are common flaws seen in any digicam this size. The lense is really small so low light or indoor pictures are awful. I missed a lot of adorable shots of my children indoors because of this issue. Red Eye is awful as well. The outdoor full sun pictures were really nice though, some of them positively stunning.

Since I use my camera indoors mainly I decided to go with a camera twice as expensive this time around. One with a big lense!

2 out of 5 stars Neat Camera but went dead after 19 months.......2006-06-26

This was pretty good deal for me or atleast it looked to me till 1 week before. One fine day, it suddenly stopped working and it is showing me image only when the swivel lens is turned towards the photographer. Now it has started showing me SYSTEM ERROR and makes lot of noise when I turn on\off the camera. This is nice deal provided you are ready to spend couple of hundered dollars for 12-20 months of use. After that be ready to buy a new one.

Amazon.com Review

The Nikon Coolpix 2000 is a bold step for Nikon, because it further broadens Sony's digital range as the manufacturer moves from top-end SLR cameras and prosumer models into the popular point-and-shoot arena dominated by Kodak and Fuji.

The Coolpix 2000 shares many of the design cues with the recent 2500 with a silver finish and metallic blue accent around the lens and the absence of a normal optical rangefinder. Instead, as with the 2500, Nikon has chosen to ensure that the LCD viewer on the rear of the camera is of sufficient quality to be used in all conditions, including bright sunlight. It has also ensured that the camera will run comfortably on four AA alkaline batteries. Unlike the 2500, the Coolpix 2000's lens does not rotate into the body of the camera--it does, however, have an automatic lens cover.

The Coolpix 2000 is not the smallest 2-megapixel camera we've seen. However, it has a nicely rounded body and will fit comfortably in the pocket. Controls are straightforward and comprise shutter release, power slide, mode dial, zoom controls, menu navigation, and buttons for self timer, macro, and flash. The modes include party/indoor, backlight, portrait, night portrait, and beach/snow. We found that when chosen carefully, these modes would significantly improve the quality of the final image compared with the Auto setting.

The Coolpix 2000 scores highly in two areas--image quality and value for money. It takes excellent pictures in most conditions. The colors are accurate and the images crisp. This must be due to the quality of the Nikkor lens and the in-camera processing.

The Coolpix 2000 offers a lot of bang for the buck, providing many of the features found on Nikon's high-end range. For instance, despite the Coolpix 2000's many automated features, you can still adjust exposure and metering as well as manually set white balance and in-camera sharpening. Nikon has also included its Best Shot Selector, which takes a series of images while the shutter is depressed and then saves the sharpest to the flash card--this can produce better images more reliably without using up your memory.

The Coolpix 2000 is supplied with a quick start guide, a comprehensive paper manual, strap, 16 MB CompactFlash card, four AA alkaline batteries, AV cable, USB cable, software CD, and reference CD. The basic image transfer software supplied is the excellent and straightforward Nikon View 5. This provides an interface to the camera to upload images, and then organize and view them. --Nick Baxter

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Alta Calidad de fotos con mucha Luz.......2003-08-27

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera.......2003-08-16

I was pleasantly surprised with the Coolpix 2000. It has all I want and more. It's easy to figure out and I was snapping pictures away in no time. As others have stated, the camera does have a low battery life but that was fully expected from me. Rechargable batteries take care of that problem rather easily.
I've had the camera for a couple of weeks now and have no complaints. One possible problem that might come up is the bright sunshine may inhibit viewing the viewfinder. So far no problems but the weather has been rather cloudy.

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the price.......2003-07-12

This is a great camera for outdoor photography. We took this camera to our Canada Trip and the result was beyond our expectation. It took excellent photographs of Niagara falls in the night using the Night Scene Mode.
Also, both of my kids ( 4 and 8 yrs old) can takes great photos ( in auto mode) with this camera.

It consumes lots of battery power so rechargeable batteries are recommended. I also purchased lexar media compact flash card (256MB) with this camera.

4 out of 5 stars Better tips.......2003-07-11

I've gotten better acquainted with my camera. Here are my final tips. In most cases set EV to -1 and brighten the picture with the Nikon software, or if you have the sun behind the object, set EV to +1. Use manual white setting at all times, set in camera sharpening to low. Have a nice day.

4 out of 5 stars Great Entry-Level Digital Camera.......2003-06-18

Easy to use - I haven't even opened the Owner's Manual, yet (probably should do that sometime)! For those wanting a simple camera that takes great pictures, this is the camera for you. Great, small size plus features of many far more expensive cameras make this a great choice for those just getting into the market for a digital camera. I do a lot of digital work for the web and this camera suffices for everything I need.

4 out of 5 stars Very Pleased.......2006-01-19

This camera has produced superb quality photograpy. As a REALTOR, I use this camera often. If it wasn't for the size and normal wear and tear I have put the camera through, I would never get another camera.

5 out of 5 stars A decade of Escapes.......2005-12-09

This is the first & ONLY digital camera I have ever bought. Yes, I paid over $1000 for it new, but that is what you get for being on the cutting edge of technology. Many of my hi-tech pals are on their 2nd or 3rd digital cameras, but this single gem is lasting me (& my professional use) very very well. It's almost a decade old & it's still going strong. Had it re-vamped with new CCD chip, belt, door & I have dropped it outside a number of times. Once it took a topple from my tripod in a super windy ghost town at night. Although it has been in the shop a number of times (twice under warranty), I still swear by this camera. Great quality of colors, contrast & light balance!! Nikon does very well in low light conditions too. Imagine camp fire shots without a flash. Getting your friends to sit still is another story. If you check out Total Escape, you will see the fine work of this lil camera.

4 out of 5 stars It's as good as everyone has already mentioned, BUT..........2005-09-25

I have found that the Energizer 2500mAH NiMH batteries are worthwhile to buy - they last much longer than any other rechargeable I've ever used, even with extensive flash use.

I've had my camera for over 3 years, and it serves well for everything from internet pics to post & e-mail photos to send, to high resolution 5X7" and even some 8X10" respectable quality prints.

On the other hand, the major failure of this camera lies in a poorly designed and cheaply built battery door. Nikon's chief battery door designer was apparently sick that day, and the janitor obviously submitted the design they used. Eventually, even if you're careful, the chintzy little lightweight plastic slots on the camera body that the battery door tabs lock into, will break, and your otherwise finely made and great performing camera will need a generous strip of ducttape to hold the door closed - this makes the necessity of using the highest capacity NiMH battery you can find all that more important. I'm drawing up plans to fabricate some small metal tabs to embed into the camera body to replace the crappy broken plastic, but haven't yet gotten happy with the Dremel tool to do the work.

Bottom line: Be Careful when you open the battery door - press it down against the camera body before you slide it to the unlocked or open position, and you can delay the inevitable plastic tab failure that will ruin an otherwise outstanding camera.

5 out of 5 stars Great camera.......2003-06-28

I am taking picture 3,901 and have never had a problem, other than trying to remember how to use the endless settings in the m mode. I just downloaded bios update to 1.3 and had no problem. Of course, I carefully followed all the directions. I had been at 1.2.

1 out of 5 stars SYSTEM ERROR.......2003-01-07

Almost a year to the day after the camera was bought, i turn it on and it greets me with SYSTEM ERROR and a LOUD clicking noise coming from the lens side of the camera. lovely. haven't taken it in yet to see how much this is going to cost me.

and this is with me ONLY taking approx 40 pictures.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing DVD Player.......2005-10-20

I find this Ultra Slim DVD player amazing. Its picture quality is very good. The speakers are also good. I won't say that the speakers are too good. I have a pair of Bose speakers which I connect to this DVD Player and then watch movies. I feel like I am watching a movie in a big theater.

3 out of 5 stars Ok but............2005-08-20

This is an okay player, especially at this lower price. Just be aware that our battery lasted only 1.5 years before it would not hold a charge and over time, the unit makes a grinding noise. A replacement battery costs about $75.00+ from Audiovox and to have the unit cleaned/repaired would cost about $95.00. At that point, it's cheaper to just buy a new unit.

2 out of 5 stars At home ok, in car not so good.......2005-02-12

I bought this item over a less expensive "off-brand" thinking it would have better performance in the car. It worked great at home and my kids had a blast snuggling up and watching their favorite DVDs. In the car it was less than desirable. Two seperate units (which I've returned) had the exact same problem: the power jack connection at the unit is loose and the power flashes on & off if the unit is moved even the slightest. A big problem in a moving vehicle, especially with the coiled power cord.

2 out of 5 stars good for a year.......2005-01-15

We had our player for just over a year when ours broke. Before that, it was a good machine. The picture quality on the 7" screen was clear and pretty sharp. Plugged into a TV it looked great as well. The 2 speakers on the bottom front of the screen worked fine. We never had problems hearing the sound, even when the kids were watching a movie during a noisy wedding reception. The sound quality was very good when it was pluged into headphones or a sound system. The player had no problem playing DVD's from other regions & burned copies of home videos. The remote is a standard design used by several of the other less expensive brands ie. Magnavox. Good features on a small remote & ergonomically designed. The problems we had was after about 8 months of heavy use (we used it in our bedroom as an alternate dvd player for several months) it started having trouble recognizing & loading dvd's. Once in a while there would be intermitant scraping noises as if the dvd were being scraped up. After a couple more uses, the screen no longer worked and the scraping noise was persistant.

We bought the player from Costco and this will be the test of their return policy.
