Clunky, noisy but still okay.......2004-05-25

This camera is really a mixed bag. I hate absolutely everything about it: too noisy, zoom too slow, unimpressive viewfinder, etc. But even as bad as this camera is, I took some really amazing pictures with it. You know the saying: It is a poor workman who blames his tools...

I'm not saying that those who got bad pictures with it don't know how to take photos but I have to admit that out of the several hundreds of photos I took with it, only a few were really bad, and it's mostly because the setting was too dark (I mostly take outdoor photography and sunsets).

I'm definitely looking for a new camera because this one is just too clunky, noisy, slow and butt ugly. But it has served me well for a couple of years now and I'm happy with my photos, so in the end, that's what counts.

Disappointed shutterbug.......2002-11-20

I enjoy taking lots of pictures, but I have had nothing but frustration after buying this camera. I kept thinking the batteries were dead, and the camera would freeze up and not perform any longer. I cannot tell you how many missed birthday, anniversary, and Christmas pictures since this camera came into my life. What a dog!

This camera [stinks].......2002-10-20

This camera is loud and slow. The zoom is slow and jerky. Flash recycle is slow. Bulky
To utilize flash off and landscape mode, you have to use your left hand to hold the button in place while taking the actual picture.
No LCD, no other flash options, red-eye is always on, delay between hitting shutter button and snapping of the picture.
The lens cover, which slides over to the right when camera is on, is in just a spot that if you hold the cam a certain way, your fingers can scoot it over, thereby shutting the cam off in the middle of trying to take a picture.
The tele and wideangle buttons arent easy to feel...you have to look at the camera to be sure you arent hitting the shutter button.
Film rewind is auto, but only after you push the button to set it rewinding. It doesnt automatically pre-wind film to picture 1.
I have a Minolta Freedom Action Zoom 60 (for the past 7 yrs, its kinda outta commission right now, but after having this Olympus, thinking Im going to spend the money to get the Minolta fixed).....WAAAAAAAAAAY better camera. Offers more options, the camera does all the work for you by the touch of buttons. Flash is quick to recharge, zoom is fast, fluid, and quiet....what novel ideas!

Yo!.......2002-08-15

This was my first camera (actually, I had an underwater camera and it ruined my film,the shutter release didn't work and hardly any of the pictures came out) and I personally have no problem with it. I just have to push the zoom button way to many times to get maxium-zoomage (and, believe me, maxium-zoomage is not that long), and the shutter release is way too close to the zoom buttons (I'm having night mares of trying to zoom, but then hitting the shutter release and wasting a picture). My pictures don't come out to dark or too light, like most of the other reviewers said. Hmmmm, oh, yea, it makes too much noise when you open the lense and push the shutter release (kind of annoying if I'm trying to take a candid photo). Overall, the miner flaws are not really that bad, and I reccomend this camera for any photographer. PEACE OUT!

Like the other reviewers, I don't recommend this camera.......2002-06-21

This camera is a pain in the butt to use. Like the other reviewers, I also have problems with the lens. With brand new batteries the thing will behave strangely to the point of wanting to throw it away. Then right when I am ready to do just that, it will work again. There is a sliding cover over the lens to protect it, which is great, except when you go to close it again because you have to push it into the lens barrel. Overall this camera feels very cheaply constructed. The image quality is average for a point and shoot, ranging from decent color and sharpness in perfect lighting, to washed out and blurring in every other situation. I recommend looking elsewhere. Even the Nikon FM10 which is an SLR with interchangable Nikkor lenses can be found used for $150.

I purchased this amplifier on a whim because it features surround sound decoding matrix called Circle Surround (it decodes FL, FR, FC, SL, and SR channels from a single stereo input). I much prefer Circle Surround to any Dolby product.

This amplifier, aside from rare decoding, offers DD, DTS, and PCM digital decoding and has very quiet amplifiers for each channel. The amplifier is also very user friendly to set up and use. Furthermore, it provides me enough digital and A/V inputs.

I think the other bad reviews are quite funny. A couple of them (like the fact that you can't rewind/f.forward to another scene without the remote) is just NOT true! Look on the player--it couldn't be more spelled out for you.

I think this player is great. I originally bought two for my twins (it's great for trips via air). After 1 1/2 years one player broke. It failed to recognize a DVD in the player and wouldn't load properly. I did purchase the extended warrenty through Best Buy (which I highly recommend) and exchanged it for a brand new one, no questions asked. My warrantee still remains in effect if this one should break, but to tell the truth if it does, I'll just get another new one.

The picture quality, sound is good. It is light and easy to travel with. Lasts about 2 1/2 hours on battery. I thought this was a great purchase--and a great portable DVD player!

I hope I don't jinx myself, but I LIKE this unit........2006-09-27

I have had this unit for about nine months. I have found it to be a very useful and flexible unit. Yes, some options are in the menu only. Even though I do work in video production, and am therefore picky in a video quality sense, I find that setting the color and tint once has been sufficient. This is not the way I use my monitor TV at home, but I set the Insignia, and haven't messed with it since. Thereafter, you only need to adjust brightness (you can watch in bed in a dark room, and need to turn down the brightness, or you can watch in a well lit room, and turn it up) and volume, both of which are easily accessable on the side of the player. Don't expect hi-fi sound from the dime sized speakers. However, if you use headphones the sound is excellent.

The unit has line level outputs, and I was able to use it sucessfully to feed a video projector and PA in a company meeting. It plays "home made" DVD's, CD's, and of course, store bought. I purchased a nifty Case Logic case for it, and have really been very happy with the unit. I hope I don't jinx myself on the reliability issue, but mine has worked fine, and it has travelled. The picture quality, sharpness, color intensity, black level, contrast, is quite good for such a unit, and picture quality was the reason I chose this over other similar units.

Unfortunately, any item at this price that breaks is a throw away item; repair cost exceeds the replacement cost. I don't blame the others for being upset when their units broke in short order, I would have been upset, too. However, since mine is still playing along, I think it is an excellent value for the price I paid. I bought mine for just over $100 at Best Buys right after Christmas. I paid $25 for the case.

Beware of Insignia.......2006-03-20

This player has a 90 day warranty. It quit working on day 99. Probably used less than 50 hours. No option to fix it. No suggestions from customer service to troubleshoot it. Just "sorry, I can't help you if you didn't buy the extended warranty." My guess is their only option is to replace it. I wonder 'if' you had the warranty and got another one, would they replace the second one,or would you need 'another warranty'. Or more likely, would it be a one time only option. I would never buy anything else with that name. The Best Buy salesperson strongly recommended it! It was about the highest priced portable dvd they had!

Serious design flaws.......2006-01-08

Here's some brilliance in design. You can only adust the the color, hue, etc without a disk in the system and the arrow buttons on the player are for menu navigation only. Can only rewind/FF using the remote.
Let's use logic, you may never adjust the color, etc because who wants to keep inserting a disk to see how you did. You'll always use Rew/FF yet those buttons aren't even on the player only the remote.
Inexpensive doesn't have to mean lousy design...except in this case. I accept the fact I made a bad decision even though I went down and checked it out with a dvd. Just assumed the arrow buttons on the player were Rew/FF.
Nice picture for the price though and I wouldn't have bought anything smaller anyway.

Insignia IS-PD10135.......2005-12-21

I have this DVD player, a gift from my family last April, 2005. I haven't played more than 12 movies on it. Around the 5th or 6th movie, the screen would freeze. I had to reboot the player and select the scene in order to get back to where it froze up. Dec. 10, 2005 it froze again and now it won't load the movie. From doing some research on the web, it appears there are many others with exactly the same problem. You get the run around from both Best Buy and Insignia, no customer support. They continue to market this unit with a design flaw. In case you don't know, Insignia is a Best Buy in-house Brand.It looks good in the store but won't last - believe me. Save your money. I recommend that you stay away from this brand as it is junk.

Power Gear 150W.......2004-05-28

I bought and put one in my caravan. This is helpful and reliable. We have never tried 150W grinder as I know which need more than 300W surge which is not suitable to apply on this product. But the inverter makes my son sit proper at the back with his PSII + TV.

power inverter missing power.......2004-05-13

I need an inverter to run a small coffee grinder in our van on trips. Our grinder is rated at 150 watts. Wanting as small unit to store in the van I chose a unit at the right rating. The peak load is rated for 300 watts for a short time . Upon trial when it arrived the power unit shuts off in two seconds. I am unable to use it at all. I don't know if the grinder uses more than its power rating or if the power unit is too weak to carry the rated load. I am ordering a larger unit to resolve the issue. Note I even tried the grinder without the beans , no better. The unit we received was rated at 150 watts, not 140 I ordered.
