A Great Monitor.......2003-07-27
I've had this monitor for a week now, and I'm completely content with my purchase. I shopped around very carefully for a long time, and ultimately chose the NEC 1560V because of the low price, high contrast ratio (400:1 same as the Dell UltraSharp, but the NEC [costs] less), and I also wanted a WHITE monitor, which I found to be rare in my searches.
The picture is crisp, without a trace of fuzziness. I had to lower my screen resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels - and that's the ONLY level that will work with this monitor. I like to keep my windows small, so that took some getting used to, but it's okay. The screen is adjustable, and my dad was excited to see that the viewing range was quite wide - 120 degrees, again, better than the UltraSharp's 80 degrees. Sure, I'd recommend this monitor - it's cheap, it's pretty, and it's functional. A great choice for people who don't have money to burn.

I've really enjoyed using this monitor. I got another model of MultiSync monitor about 6 months ago, and was very pleased with that, so I saw no reason to switch brands when I discovered I needed another LCD monitor.
I've used this monitor on my PC running Windows 98, and then Windows XP. (I later upgraded to XP.) I've also used it on a PowerMac G4 (connected to the VGA port), which runs both OS X and OS 9. It works well with both of these Macintosh Operating Systems. The screen is bright and clear.
When I ran the Windows update in XP, it immediately found a recent driver for this monitor. That was nice.
It is best to set this monitor at its "native" resolution of 1024 x 768 -- if you set it for 800 x 600 (or lower) the monitor "reminds" you periodically that it is not set at its "best" setting. This warning will keep popping up and while I assume there's a way to make it go away permenantly, it is a little irritating. So, be warned if you want to use this monitor at anything other than 1024 x 768. Actually, all LCD monitors are the same in this regard -- they don't *want* to be set at any other resolution other than their "native" resolution. The sharpness will not be as good on any LCD monitor if it's not at its "native" resolution. That's just the nature of LCD.
All I can say is that setting up this monitor has been trouble-free. It is a slim and lightweight monitor with a bright screen. An absolute joy. Very cross-platform! I am quite pleased with it.

Great little monitor!.......2003-10-30
I bought the NEC MultiSync 1560 about 7 months ago. I happen to have the white/gray one, not black. This LCD is the best, and a great value. The 15" format is perfectly fine for me.
I am so not disappointed with my purchase! I am a student, so I need some working space on my desk, and this LCD takes very little space on it.
The picture is near perfect. I use Webshots for my wallpaper, and the images render just great. I can almost see myself on that tropical island!!! :) I play games a lot too, they look great.

The word gorgeous applies to both the 1560V's picture quality and exterior styling. I personally prefer this black one, although you might want to check out the gray (white?) one if that's your color. Teh contrast ratio is excellent, and according to a recent PC World research report (and much to my pleasant surprise), NEC-Mitsubishi understates the contrast ratio on their LCD monitors, so you get more than what the manufacturer tells. (Apparently all the South Korean manufacturers overstate their contrast ratio, therefore shortchanging their customers this way.) Even though this is only a 15-inch LCD, the screen feels big due to the black frame. Set-up is a breeze, even for most beginners. And it stands out nicely on your desktop. I've owned another NEC LCD monitor for over 4 years and have had no problem, so I feel confident about the 1560V's quality as well. Very highly recommended. This is the one to get, unless you want the NEC-Mitsubishi 17-inch or larger LCDs. :)
NEC 1560V -- value LCD for tight budget users.......2003-04-22
I compared lot of 15" & 17" LCD at the market, here's some of my suggestions:
1. Don't settle anything less than 400:1 contrast ratio (higher the better)
2. Look for the response time, range is vary, the lower the better
3. NEC & Viewsonic will be my choice...Samsung's quality is not that impressive as some websites described
4. Dead pixel(s), more than 3 is unacceptable, but I will say one is more than enough...(Look at the return policy before you buy) If you can't live with it, you better shop at the local dealers so you can test it before you buy.
5. The quality of this LCD is good for daliy use, you won't disappointed.

I did the research before I bought this product, my choice finally came up between Viewsonic and NEC. A 17" brand name LCD was cost (at least) 50% more compare with a 15" one; so if you want a LCD with tight budget (like me), NEC 1560V is a solid product at this category and at the right price. Also, don't buy the 1550V since it's the older model with [$] difference. This is not for serious gamers, of course, if you read the spec. careful enough.
Amazon.com offer a even better price after I placed the order [$$$] just few days later at [$$$]....(can I get [$] back?) and I found their (electronic) products' prices change frequently just like seafood market...
The product arrived one week later at good shape, just plug in the power cable & video cable, for a few seconds the screen was on with sharp image automatically. I soon found a dead pixel near the upper left corner -- if this doesn't bother you then everything is fine; since many resellers will not allow you to return because of 1 dead pixel. But for those who ask for a perfect screen, you better go to the local shop, ask the salesperson to pull out the panel & test it before you buy. I bought many of my PC stuffs thro' web, but I felt purchase a LCD thro' web is the most risky one and that's why I will stick with the big name with good return policy.

Linksys Router.......2007-09-24
The BEFSR41 model is improved over an older version of the same model. The price was very good. I think the difference is simplicity. Fewer lights and the only button (reset) is now in the rear. Good idea. Tech support doesn't even seem to know what the reset button does. They recommend resetting it every time you call. Once I was guided through the options screen which the router displays and changed several settings. The tech then told me to restart the computer and press the reset button. This erases all the changes I was just told to make and sets it back to default values. Get with it, tech support! In any case this one seems to work better than the old and and hasn't needed any tech support, thankfully. The product itself is good.
Needs to be rebooted every day.......2007-09-21
This product sucks. We use many of them in the office, and all of them have the same problem. They work fine for a day, and then they stop. The fix is easy---you just need to unplug the power and plug it back in, but it's annoying, a pain in the rear, and a hassle.
Best router if you want to put computers together without a network.......2007-09-11
We bought this cable/dsl router with 4 port so we could have both of our computers on without establishing a network. This router is great and Amazon has the best price....saving me over $20 from buying it at Bestbuy (the salesman there suggested this router). Paired with the Motorola Surfboard modem, we have an unbelievable combination that works great!

I bought one of these BEFSR41 routers from Amazon in December, 2000 and it has been chugging away non-stop ever since.
Originally, we had two computers hooked up to it, both running Windows98... now we have four on it; one with Win98, two with XP, and one with Vista... the router doesn't care - it just works - flawlessly. We have never done anything to it since we got it - it's probably the most trouble free electronic thing I have ever owned.
I don't remember any details about configuring it, etc, (after all it was over six years ago) but anybody who can follow the instructions should have no trouble.
It's a good deal!

Works when it works.......2007-09-04
Wouldn't be bad if it continued to work. I've had this router for 6 months. Once it just stopped working. Technical support to some faraway place with a difficult-to-hear technician helped me get it going again. Recently it just stopped working again. This time the tech support person decided it needed to be replaced. I've dialed the support line a dozen times and am now on hold trying to get a replacement. I expect I would have been better off just saying goodbye to the initial $40 investment and buying a new competitor's product rather than spending so much time on the phone trying to get this resolved.

Difficult to clean - not recommended for dirt-prone areas........2002-07-04
After having used this mouse for about a year, this mouse started behaving erratically, most likely caused by lint and other dirt in the mouse wheels. Trying to clean it is rather difficult, because they cannot be kept in place. Thus the mouse could not be "revived" and finally jammed completely. Short, Logitech's mouse is easier to clean and therefore lasts longer.

What a lot of people dont realize when it comes to using computers the most abused piece of equipment would be the mouse. Particularly "Internet" PC's and Gaming PC's. The entire computer experience is usually distroyed with a substandard mouse. It is critical that you find a good quality mouse. Afterall it is the primary input device for your pc.
You normally dont associate Microsoft with hardware and many of their hardware products barely make the "satisfactory" level. their mice however are exceptions.
You wont be disappointed with this mouse. Its definately not a highend mouse but this is how mice should be made at the very least.
Another aspect of the mouse that is often overlooked is the mousepad. A good quality mousepad also contributed greatly to the whole experience. I recommend the 3M mousepad. I promise you once you've tried it you wont want to use anything else. It also keeps your mice clean.

Great for Win98 but problems for ME.......2001-06-06
When I bought this mouse, I was currently using Windows 98. I didn't have any problems with it under that operating system. After I bought a new computer that came with Windows ME, I immediately had a problem with the IntelliPoint 3.1 software that comes with the mouse.
When I tried to install the program, it displayed a dialogue stating that the software was created before ME came out, and that some of the mouse functions might not work with it. I thought this was the end of me having the luxury of the IntelliPoint software.
If you have only used the mouse program that came with your operating system, then you are missing out. The IntelliPoint software allows you to scroll the screen with the "wheel" depending on where the mouse pointer is. For example, if you were using a browser and typed in a web address you would have to click on the area where the web site is displayed in order for you to scroll. With the software it allows you to scroll the display area as long as you have the mouse there even if something else is selected like the area where you type the web addresses.
I did decide to try to install IntelliPoint anyway on Windows ME. An obvious problem I noticed was that it set my dial-up modem to display a connection window every time I tried to open a broswer. Normally this wouldn't be a problem if I was still using a dial-up modem, but I'm now currently connected with a cable modem. For anyone else with a cable modem, all you have to do is go to Control Panel, and then click on Dial-up Networking. Right-click any connection and select properties. After that click on the Dialing tab, and select This is the default Internet connection (if it isn't already selected). Then all you have to do is select Never dial a connection underneath what you just selected before. Click Ok and everything should be set.
That's the first problem. The second one I don't know how to fix, but I can live with it. Some of the features don't work on ME as Microsoft stated. For example, sometimes it doesn't recognize certain scrolling areas like the area where you type web addresses. You would just have to do it manually. So far it has always scrolled the display areas after I have selected something else.
I'm still looking out for more conflicts with ME, but so far it hasn't be all too bad. The mouse itself is problem free, and can easily scroll on Windows ME without the IntelliPoint software. You just don't get the luxury that I've mentioned above. If you have Windows 95/98 then there shouldn't be a problem. I just had the ill fortune of starting with Win98 and then changing to ME. I also didn't want to buy a new mouse that was guaranteed to work on ME, because I only bought this mouse a couple of months before I decided to get my new computer. Hopefully, I have helped anyone who has upgraded from 98 to ME, or anyone who wants to know if this mouse will work on ME. Good Luck
