worked well for a while.......2006-01-21
This was perfect for my family and at a good price. It worked well for a while and then died after only a little over one year. So, I have to say that I will no longer feel confident to purchase any more Norcent products.
buyer beware.......2006-01-15
I bought this player a year ago to be used in the guest bedroom.
I knew I was taking a risk but I fell for the "wow this is really cheap" and the "how bad could it be, after all it will only be used every now and again by visiting family and friends" big mistake. This is a total heap. save your money and buy another brand, beware of cheap chinese rip off garbage.
GRADE "A" DVD PLAYER!!!.......2005-11-03
My husband and I purchased the Norcent DP300 DVD Player for our teenage daughter almost 3 yrs ago. Since that time we have went out and purchased numerous DVD players, even Sony's, that will not play what the Norcent will play. This DVD player will play ANYTHING that we have put in it so far!! I haven't found one yet that plays like this one plays. Several months ago we purchased the Norcent DP-220 DVD PLAYER WITH DIVX PLAYBACK and it still doesn't play what the older model DP300 will play. I can't rate this DVD player any higher because it has also stood up to a teenager that watches one movie over and over again in one day. I wish Norcent would continue to manufacturer this DVD player...it is awesome!!!
Born again.......2005-08-05
I've used this little thing mostly for sampling CDs (hundreds of them - part of my job). CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, MP-3, not to mention occasional Kodak Photo - it would eat anything.
Multiple speed (2x, 4x, 8x, 16x) with the sound on (even in Reverse - just for the hack of it), constant on-screen status (an expensive Sony goes into a screen saver mode after 15 min.), [Total Remain]-[Single Elapse]-[Single Remain]-[Total Elapse] easy toggle, great sound.
I wish it had a panel display, I'd use it in a studio instead of a professional user-unfriendly CD player.
It was very good for the movies too.
Anyway, few days ago I pulled one CD out of it and popped another one in - and ... nothing happened. It kept "Loading" for a few minutes, then said "No Disc". Same thing with any other I tried. I shook it, and knocked it, and cursed it - nothing worked.
I went and bought another cheap one, then another, then one more (I just wanted a very basic player) - they all sucked compare to the Norcent, and I took them all back.
In an act of dispare I dissected it and cleaned its lense with eye glasses cleaning things. That was it! It's back to life!
If it dies some day, I am back to Norcent.
Very good player!.......2005-06-04
This is a very good DVD player. ALOT of people said that this player freezes, actually, this thing never froze on me. The picture quality is very good. I highly reccommend this model if you are on a budget.

Norcent's affordable DP-302V features dual NTSC/PAL video outputs, built-in MP3 decoding, and a dual-laser pickup for compatibility with not only DVDs and CDs, but MP3-filled CD-Rs and CD-RWs as well. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
In the audio realm, the unit offers Dolby Digital 5.1-channel decoding and passthrough, so you can enjoy immersive, theater-like surround sound with just about any multichannel receiver and speaker setup. Some older audio/video receivers do not offer digital-audio inputs or discrete multichannel surround processing, but do feature the appropriate analog inputs for use with a surround-decoding DVD player such as the DP-302V. If you do have Dolby Digital decoding in your AV receiver, you can use either of the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for a direct digital connection.
Playback options include an onscreen menu, parental lock, resume/memory play, eight-grade fast or slow motion, nine-image digest viewing, memory play, A-B repeat, and picture zoom.

Best dvd player for the money to play in india........2004-03-16
I've taken three of them all of them are working with no complaints. Have so many features like MP3, vcd, svcd, dvd, recordable dvd, photo disc play.
Fatal Coincidence.......2004-03-03
I bought this DVD player for use with a 1997 model Zenith 25' TV. It's my first DVD player, so I can't compare it with others, but it seems fine. I don't think it has a significant problem with lines as they say non-progressive scan machines do. There are lots of ways to adjust it if you study the manual. However, the color on my TV suddenly went partially out one day after using it only a few times.
Sexy little player, capable of playing any DVD worldwide.......2003-12-19
Whilst this may not be the most technologically advanced or sleakest looking machine on the market, I challenge you to find a more user-friendly DVD player which can be manipulated without opening the machine or doing anything illegally into playing any DVD not just from any region but also PAL or NTSC thanks to it's changable format. My player doesn't even require changing every time a new region or format DVD is put in - it automatically reads the DVD and changes itself to be able to play it. For less then forty dollars, you really couldn't ask more. It's a small design but the remote is fully functional and of good size - certainly no tiny little buttons to fiddle around with. I am absolutely delighted with the player for its usability and cost.
Compact and User Friendly.......2003-11-21
The DVD player has a classy look. Works great with all electronics, even digital TVs. It is SO easy to use, I've never even had to open the user's manual.
BAD DVD.......2003-11-17
This is the worst DVD player ever! I bought two of these and one broke on the first day and the other broke on the second day. Both of them ate the disks and I had to pry the DVD player apart jsut to get it open. This DVD player is just a piece of crap.

The cable included connects from a Serial Port to a Phone Type RS 232 Jack. PC's with only USB ports (PC's without RS-232 ports) require the computer accessory USB/RS-232 Adapter as well.
This Kit is for ETX-70AT and DS-2000 Series ONLY
Customer Reviews:
outdated software.......2007-04-25
The software this kit comes with is old and outdated. It is not supported by Windows XP nor Windows Vista. The latest supported version of Windows is Windows 98.
It also appears that the included software is a limited trial software. It is limited to the included 3 catalogs (star maps). The complete set of catalogs must be purchased additionally at quite some expense.
The cable connection kit couldn't be reviewed because it was missing from the package I received, but keep in mind when you order this kit, that neither Windows XP nor Windows Vista support serial ports anymore. The additional USB to serial adapter would be required.

Product Description
Meade is a world leader in the design and manufacture of telescopes and accessories for amateur astronomers. The company's innovative and technologically advanced products are recognized to be among the best in the world.
Amazon.com Product Description
For almost as long as amateur astronomy has been in existence as a field of study, refracting telescopes of 60-millimeter (2.4 inches) aperture and larger, and reflecting telescopes of about 114 millimeters (4.5 inches) and larger, have been considered ideal telescopes for the serious beginning or intermediate observer. But never in their long history have microprocessor technology and the latest in electromechanical design been applied to telescopes of this class. Meade Digital Electronic Series (DS) telescopes are one of the most important advances in beginning to intermediate telescopes in 100 years.
Completely reengineered and redesigned, Meade DS telescopes provide smoother motions in altitude and azimuth than previously available. Even when operated manually without electronic controls, DS models are a revelation of mechanical precision and low-backlash motion that greatly facilitate quick object location and tracking. Oversize bearings on both telescope axes of all models negate the imprecisions found universally, virtually without exception, on competing models.
Customer Reviews:
A great beginner's telescope.......2001-07-20
I have purchased the Meade DS-60 for my son. I am very impressed with the quality of the product after comparing it to similarly priced telescopes available for purchase from local retail outlets in Australia. The mounting is of a significantly superior quality than those of its competitors in this price range and this is important for the novice astronomer to gain some real enjoyment from their hobby. The instructions packaged with the product could be improved by rewriting them with a younger user in mind. I highly recommend "The Starry Night" software which comes packaged with the telescope.
Poor support.......2001-03-02
I purchased a DS-60 for my son and have been trying to locate the accessories necessary to get it to perform with a motor since December. I have been unable to purchase the #493 series kit (not specified on the box as a necessary component)either online or at any stores. There is no online customer support and the information provided by the manufacturer was incorrect. The accessories for the telescope are not readily available. I am very dissatisfied with this product.
Cheap Plastic Parts.......2000-12-26
The lenses to this scope seem to be pretty good quality, but there are a number of problems which make it less attractive. Several threaded parts are made of plastic, and at least on mine, which had apparently been opened before, they were all stripped. Manual controls are ok, but the horizontal controls are hard to operate. When you stop turning, the scope continues to move about 1-2 degrees, unless you turn the knob back the other way. Spend the extra money and get a good telescope!
Meade DS-60.......2000-06-23
The Meade DS-60 Telescope is a very good product with many great features. With the DS-60 you can clearly view many stars, planets, and constellations. The only fault I can find in the Ds-60 is the extremly high price to upgrade to the Autostar system.

Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's DMR-E55K DVD player/recorder grants unprecedented recording time on double-sided 9.4 GB recordable DVDs--up to 16 hours, or 8 hours per side (and on standard 4.7 GB discs, in EP mode). The DMR-E55K's joint support of DVD-RAM and DVD-R media provides the best of both worlds: DVD-R for the highest compatibility (letting you share video recordings with virtually anyone with a DVD player) and DVD-RAM (for rewritability and benefits like TimeSlip, chasing playback, and simultaneous play and record). DVD-RAM offers the perfect method for recording and rerecording favorite programs--over 100,000 times on the same disc. Using DVD-RAM, you can also edit your videos on a multimedia computer with video editing/production software.
You can take DVD-RAM discs out of their protective cartridges and play them on PCs equipped with a 4.7 GB/9.4 GB DVD-RAM drive or DVD-ROM drive that's compatible with 4.7 GB/9.4 GB DVD-RAM. In addition to an attractive price tag, the feature-rich DMR-E55K offers the benefits of progressive-scan video playback (for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs), MP3 CD playback, enhanced time-shifting, and instant access times.
With instant recording onto a DVD disc, there's no need to have to find blank space, as with a VHS tape. Just press record and the unit will automatically find space on the disc, much like a computer's disk drive. Panasonic's Time Slip feature lets you replay a scene recorded earlier while a program is still in progress, without disrupting the recording process. And chasing playback lets you watch from the beginning a show whose recording is still in progress.
You can easily transfer your favorite VHS tape recordings to space-saving discs. Personal movie libraries and family videos can be archived, preserved, easily cataloged and accessed, and even edited right from the disc.
Input TBC (time base corrector) removes jitter from the input signal, while 3D Y/C separation circuitry precisely separates the luminance (Y) and chrominance (C) portions of the video signal to minimize dot crawl and color smearing caused by interference between the video signal's Y and C color subcomponents. These functions are particularly effective when recording from analog video sources such as a conventional VCR and camcorder. Combined with the 3D DNR applied during playback, the result can be a surprising restoration of image quality from old videocassettes.
Connections include component-, composite-, and S-video outputs, multiple composite- and S-video inputs, an optical digital-audio output for surround-sound passthrough to a compatible (Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1) audio/video surround receiver, and RCA stereo analog audio inputs.
Progressive Scanning
Progressive scanning, otherwise known as 480P (p=progressive), creates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional interlaced picture, 480I (I=interlaced), to create a noticeably sharper image. The 480P image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates virtually all motion artifacts. Even on large screens, the progressive scan lines are barely noticeable and picture flickering is greatly reduced, so you can enjoy extended viewing without eye fatigue. There are also many advantages to progressive conversion. Progressive-scan DVD players can handle both progressive and conventional interlaced video.
The Benefits of Progressive Vs. Interlaced Scanning
| Standard DVD-Video players use interlaced scanning to produce a picture. Interlaced scanning combines two fields to generate a picture of 525 scan lines (480 of which are displayed). Your television projects an interlaced image by first scanning the 240 odd-numbered lines of one field (in 1/60th of a second), followed by the 240 even-numbered lines of the other field (in 1/60th of a second). So, it takes two fields to build one frame of video. |
|
Progressive-scan DVD players have a progressive video processor, which enables all 525 lines (480 of which are displayed) to be scanned at the exact same time. A television with 480P component inputs can completely scan the entire image in 1/60th of a second, so it only takes one field to build one frame of video. The result is a smoother and sharper picture, with high resolution and no motion artifacts.

Customer Reviews:
Good but has some major glitches.......2006-02-25
I've had this DVD Recorder/Player for a little over a year now. It was extremely easy to hook up right out of the box and the manual actually makes sense if you actually read it. Very clear picture and sound quality, even when recorded on the lowest setting. The system is very user friendly and self-explanatory. Great price for the features you get including a simple to use timer, remote, write speed selection, disc and segment names, numerous audio selections, etc. I've no complaints whatsoever about the DVD Player, just the recorder that has issues from time to time.
My main complaint is that it tends to be glitchy every so often. It has little fits where it runs a "self check" that seems to last FOREVER. You usually have to manually hold the power button down for about 3 minutes to get the machine to reset and stop the self check. Also, I've used numerous types of DVD-R media (with various write speeds) and DVD-RAM discs and I've had SEVERAL discs just spontaneously erased for no reason, which needless to say is completely irritating and frustrating, especially if you had something you wanted to save. This seems to effect the DVD-RAM discs more often, regardless of the age of the disc or the manufacturer (even Panasonic). The disc finalization has also failed several times, leaving you with a disc that can only be played in this recorder because it can not be recognized in any other player. Once the finalization fails, forget it. This doesn't occur all the time and does tend to happen more frequently with discs with higher write speed (8X).
Overall, I think it is a decent machine for the price if you are patient and don't record anything that you want to keep forever because you just never know if you'll ever see it again. If you do get this machine forget using something with a high write speed because chances are it will eventually cause a problem. The good news is that you can use just about any type of DVR-R even the cheap ones, IF the write speed is low (no higher than 4x).
Serious Problem In Month Nine of Ownership/Use.......2005-09-12
In the ninth month of owning and using this model, suddenly the picture pops on and off.
I use the Y-R1-R2 cable into my HD television.
You'll be watching, and the picture goes on, off, on, off, on, off.
If I use the component cable (Yellow RCA with the red and white sound cables), it doesn't do it.
The problem must have to do with the HD-Out area.
I've checked the HD cable, using another DVD player. No problem.
Here's the kicker. The Panasonic authorized repair shop says there's nothing wrong.
Come again?
The shop says they couldn't find anything wrong.
So, I brought it home, hooked it back up, and had the same problem within 30 seconds.
Stay away from this model. There is a significant problem, and not only won't they fix it, they don't acknowledge it exists.
Doesn't hold up.......2005-05-05
This should say it all: I just came back from the repair shop. When they saw me walk in with the unit the clerk said, "I can't believe how many of these units come in." This very model. I used it for a few months, made 20 or 30 recordings, then it just failed. I called tech report, told them the error message I was getting and they told me to bring it in. I have a feeling I'll be returning it often till the warranty expires and then I'll throw it out.
For what it's worth it worked well till its demise.
Watch the shipping date!.......2005-04-22
I bet this is a good unit, but I'll never really know. I ordered it and it never came. Delayed once, twice then cancelled.
I got it in silver instead. It's inside a cabinet, so it didn't really matter about the color. The silver was cheaper, it was in stock, and it's a good quality unit. I am please with my silver one!
EXCELLENT RECORDER IF USING THE RIGHT BLANK DISCS.......2005-04-04
I have had this player for several months and had nothing but good experiences uses it. I used Sony, TDK, and Panasonic blank DVD-Rs. Recently I purchased some new TDK blank DVD-Rs and had my first problems. The unit was flaky and would not record most of the time, while giving the Self Check indicator for several minutes. I read a review below and it mentions that 8x discs are not recommended for this recorder. The TDKs I bought are 1x-8x speed, so that appears to explain my problems.
I had used the Sony DVD-Rs mostly for the past several months and went back to them for this reason. However, a couple of days ago, I inadvertently bought a box of 1x-8x again, as I never really even paid attention to the record speed. The great news is that these new 1x-8x Sony DVD-Rs are every bit as stable and viewable as the older 1x-4x version of the same Sony DVD-Rs I was previously using. Therefore, I highly recommend going with the Sonys, as I have never had one lockup on dozens of DVD recordings using them, whether the speed of them is 1x to 4x or 1x to 8x. If you can find Panasonic DVD-Rs, I would assume they would be safe also. When the discs are compatible, the player is the best $250 investment I have ever made. For the money, there is no better performing DVD recorder out there.

Great, versatile charger!.......2004-10-07
Charger is easy to use, very handy to have around, I really like the conditioning/cycling feature. A person needs to use some care when charging larger batteries, or using the Sharp adapter, as there's a small metal tab under the left lower locking lug that is easily bent(ask me how I know). It is especially nice to be able to charge from the car lighter.

Amazon.com Product Description
The extra-large, bright viewfinder of the Olympus Accura Zoom XB700 QD camera makes it easier to see and frame your subject. Its high-resolution 38-70mm, 2x zoom lens lets you take group shots, portraits, and close-ups. Or, switch to landscape mode and capture distant scenery with amazingly sharp clarity. The built-in, 12-second electronic self-timer also lets you join in the pictures.
When you need to shoot in low-light conditions, the built-in, pop-up auto flash goes off automatically, letting you concentrate on your subject, not the lighting. If you prefer the look of the available light, or are in a situation where flash photography is not allowed, simply switch to flash off mode.
The fully automatic operations of the Accura Zoom XB700 include focus, exposure, loading, and rewinding, while the sliding barrier protects the lens against dust and scratches.

Clunky, noisy but still okay.......2004-05-25
This camera is really a mixed bag. I hate absolutely everything about it: too noisy, zoom too slow, unimpressive viewfinder, etc. But even as bad as this camera is, I took some really amazing pictures with it. You know the saying: It is a poor workman who blames his tools...
I'm not saying that those who got bad pictures with it don't know how to take photos but I have to admit that out of the several hundreds of photos I took with it, only a few were really bad, and it's mostly because the setting was too dark (I mostly take outdoor photography and sunsets).
I'm definitely looking for a new camera because this one is just too clunky, noisy, slow and butt ugly. But it has served me well for a couple of years now and I'm happy with my photos, so in the end, that's what counts.
2 1/2 stars.
Disappointed shutterbug.......2002-11-20
I enjoy taking lots of pictures, but I have had nothing but frustration after buying this camera. I kept thinking the batteries were dead, and the camera would freeze up and not perform any longer. I cannot tell you how many missed birthday, anniversary, and Christmas pictures since this camera came into my life. What a dog!
This camera [stinks].......2002-10-20
This camera is loud and slow. The zoom is slow and jerky. Flash recycle is slow. Bulky
To utilize flash off and landscape mode, you have to use your left hand to hold the button in place while taking the actual picture.
No LCD, no other flash options, red-eye is always on, delay between hitting shutter button and snapping of the picture.
The lens cover, which slides over to the right when camera is on, is in just a spot that if you hold the cam a certain way, your fingers can scoot it over, thereby shutting the cam off in the middle of trying to take a picture.
The tele and wideangle buttons arent easy to feel...you have to look at the camera to be sure you arent hitting the shutter button.
Film rewind is auto, but only after you push the button to set it rewinding. It doesnt automatically pre-wind film to picture 1.
I have a Minolta Freedom Action Zoom 60 (for the past 7 yrs, its kinda outta commission right now, but after having this Olympus, thinking Im going to spend the money to get the Minolta fixed).....WAAAAAAAAAAY better camera. Offers more options, the camera does all the work for you by the touch of buttons. Flash is quick to recharge, zoom is fast, fluid, and quiet....what novel ideas!
Yo!.......2002-08-15
This was my first camera (actually, I had an underwater camera and it ruined my film, the shutter release didn't work and hardly any of the pictures came out) and I personally have no problem with it. I just have to push the zoom button way to many times to get maxium-zoomage (and, believe me, maxium-zoomage is not that long), and the shutter release is way too close to the zoom buttons (I'm having night mares of trying to zoom, but then hitting the shutter release and wasting a picture). My pictures don't come out to dark or too light, like most of the other reviewers said. Hmmmm, oh, yea, it makes too much noise when you open the lense and push the shutter release (kind of annoying if I'm trying to take a candid photo). Overall, the miner flaws are not really that bad, and I reccomend this camera for any photographer. PEACE OUT!
Like the other reviewers, I don't recommend this camera.......2002-06-21
This camera is a pain in the butt to use. Like the other reviewers, I also have problems with the lens. With brand new batteries the thing will behave strangely to the point of wanting to throw it away. Then right when I am ready to do just that, it will work again. There is a sliding cover over the lens to protect it, which is great, except when you go to close it again because you have to push it into the lens barrel. Overall this camera feels very cheaply constructed. The image quality is average for a point and shoot, ranging from decent color and sharpness in perfect lighting, to washed out and blurring in every other situation. I recommend looking elsewhere. Even the Nikon FM10 which is an SLR with interchangable Nikkor lenses can be found used for $150.
