[...]. Choosing a player is hard their are many choices, this is my first player and working in electronics I put in the mandatory research. I [had a predetermined amount I wanted to spend] and it must have many output options and decoders would be nice but be solid and do its job well. It has no zoom but my experience has been the more bells & whistles the easier it will break down. This is an older model but its a sleeper, [and} it was built well[...]. Throw Out Those VHS Movies.......2001-04-11

This is my first DVD player and I must say that I am impressed. Picture and sound quality are great, the weak link here is my TV. As usual, I ignored the instruction manual and installed the unit in about 2 minutes. The connections are straightforward, and the front panel controls and the remote are very intuitive. I did finally look at the manual because the on-screen menu and graphics are a little cryptic. All said and done, I only wish I had gotten one sooner. I can't speak for other models, but the Panasonic DVD-RV65 is a great value. My only recommendation, if this is your first DVD player purchase make sure you have plenty of cash on hand; you will need it for a DVD disk buying binge.

Excellent DVD Player.......2001-03-17

After coming from a two year old Philips Magnavox DVD Player that I found great, I decided to move up to this Panasonic model because of it's features, Panasonic's reputation for quality products, and it's price.

This machine has been superb. Pictures are just as crystal clear as the Philips, the additional play speeds are extremely useful, there is no longer any of the freeze-frame I occasionally had with the Philips, and it starts up the movie extremely quickly. The remote is extremely intuitive to use, albeit a little small. The unit itself feels extremely well built. To top all this off, the price of this player is only a few dollars more than the base DVD Player from Panasonic, making it a great deal.

This DVD Player is a great introductory DVD Player or one for someone looking to replace an aging DVD Player for not a lot of money. It's worth it.

I love it!.......2001-01-17

I tried to enter the world of DVD going the cheep route. I got an Oritron that gave me no end of grief. After much frustration, I returned it and purchased the Panasonic. I am ecstatic, and everything works phenomenally. The difference is vast between this and any run of the mill low end DVD player that I have seen.

I don't usually write reviews on items that I buy, but I love this thing. Pay the extra couple of bucks, and get a player of this quality, you won't be disappointed.

I had been thinking about buying my first DVD player for the past 6 months. I have had this Panasonic product for a week now and love it! It took about 2 minutes to get all the cables hooked up. My first movie (Bug's Life) was running minutes later. For those of you who have not experienced DVD, you are truly missing out! The video is crystal clear, and the audio is spectacular.

Positives: flawless picture and spectacular sound, easy setup and operation, remote is backlit and well-designed, operation is smooth and quick

Negatives: You pay extra for the Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder but the cables you need to utilize this with a "digital- ready" receiver are NOT included (you will need 6 interconnects with RCA terminators for 2 fronts, 2 surrounds, center, and subwoofer)

If you want Dolby Digital (you do!) but your receiver lacks a decoder, this is one of the best on the market (IMHO)!

I've had this drive for over two years. I've had one minor problem (I loaned it to someone, and they corrupted it - don't know how), but I transfer regularly back and forth from Mac to PC (I use it formatted FAT), and I've had no problems. I've only formatted it once (after it was corrupted, see above).

The rubber cover is an opinion thing. I personally think it's a great feature. I can throw this thing around without worrying about it at all. I don't use it as a keyring, but I know a friend who does. Once nice little feature is a white space to write (w/ permanent marker).

Durable Enough! .......2006-06-07

I'm a grad student so I rely utterly on this little piece of equipment to keep my work portable, accessible, and backed up. I've been using this 256 MB Lexar Jumpdrive for about a year now, and I have utterly abused it along the way! It goes absolutely everywhere with me on a keychain: in backpacks and purses, into the field and back again, and it's worked without a hitch in several computers of several ages, all along! I finally completely filled the drive. And now, right on time, the rubber cap is breaking down right where it attached to my keychain. As other users noted, the cracking is slow, so I had plenty of time to notice it, and not lose the thing. After reviewing the other "known" brands on Amazon(read: Sandisk and Memorex), I have to conclude that this one is probably one of the best flash drives available. Let's face it: small electronics are prone to failure eventually, and the fact that this one made it through my lifestyle for 1 year is impressive to me! I'm purchasing the 1 GB version!

An Ugly but very Durable USB Drive.......2006-05-23

In general, Lexar's USB drive does its job just as well as other USB drives; there isn't much of a difference except for the following:

1) portability
good: it has a convenient way of attaching to your keychain
bad: this rubber holder only lasts for so long (in my case 6-8 months)

2) it is extremely durable. This drive survived a full 30 minute (clothes) washer cycle. When I took it out of the washer, I thought all the data and the drive was gone for good. To my surprise (after letting it dry for a day) it worked just fine. This is amazing!

I have also accidentally stepped on it while wearing shoes (not using all of my weight though) a few times on carpet and concrete; and still works fine.

Finally, I have dropped this drive on a variety of surfaces and it's still fine.

3) looks:
good: it is very easy to see since it is bright red
bad: it is fatter than other USB drives and it is bright red. The drive is pretty ugly.

It maybe good to note however, that the drive's structure is probably a good reason as to why it has survived my abuse. The bright red color's advantage has already been mentioned above.

I hate this drive.......2006-03-25

I bought it thinking it will be a sturdy drive, and Lexar anyway had a good name in flash drives.

But to my utter dissapointment, barely 2 months after use, it started behaving funny. It won't copy data(1 file) more than 20-30 MB. While copying back (more than 100mb) data from this drive to my laptop it will hang and then computer will not be able to read it (I tried with 3 laptops!). Maybe it has bad sectors, but its as good as a floppy disk for me now. And I'm using it only for sharing keeping small amount of data.

Excellent little drive.......2006-03-08

I have three of these now...they work great! I've used them to transport data files and for MP3 files. I have the Lexar Sport MP3 player that uses these USB drives for storing the MP3 files.

I did have one new drive that had a problem where the MP3 player "forgot" that the USB drive was in place. It was as if I had pulled the drive out of the player without shutting it off. Re-seating the drive fixed that problem and I have not seen that problem since. Maybe it was a fluke.

Getting it out of the packaging is a challenge, though.

NO FCC LICENSE REQUIRED.......2005-08-17

FIRST, TO CLEAR UP THE FACTS ON THE LICENSE REQUIRMENT:

This radio uses BOTH GMRS AND FRS frequencies. It is perfectly legal for anyone to buy and use this radio on the FRS channels only, and not require a license. Even the OWNER'S MANUAL states that the FCC requires you get a license IF you use the GMRS frequencies. And even THAT is not completely correct, because many of the channels are SHARED by BOTH FRS AND GMRS!

On the shared channels, one without a license would only be able to use 1/2 watt instead of 1 watt.

This unit happens to use 1 watt on the shared channels, and 1/2 watt on the FRS only channels.

Thus, although it would be perfectly legal for anyone to buy and use this particular model on channels 8 - 14 without the FCC requiring you to have a license, channels 1 - 7 are also FRS, and would also be legal to use without a license, you just can not use 1 watt, which this unit does use on channels 1 - 7.

However, being a licensed radio technician holding both commercial and ham radio licenses, I can ASSURE you that there is NO WAY anyone listening to you on channels 1 - 7 would EVER be able to tell that you are using 1 watt instead of 1/2 watt! That is IMPOSSIBLE and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The ONLY way would be for someone to TAKE your radio and measure the output power directly, but if they are just listening to you talk on this, even with the most sophisticated technology and equipment, they would never be able to tell if you are using 1 watt or 1/2 watt.

Also be assured that no one, including the FCC is going to be driving around the country listening to the millions of kids using these radios, tracking them down, and checking to see if they are using licensed output power or not, especially since we are only talking 1 watt here! A CB radio uses 4 watts! And you don't need a license for that either.Now using channels 15 - 22 are GMRS ONLY frequencies, which means, although no one listening can tell how many watts you are using, no one without a license is supposed to be talking on those channels without a license no matter what output power. However, no one listening can tell if you have a license or not, they don't know who you are, or where you are at, let alone if you have a license or not unless they tracked you down and asked to see it, and not even a police officer has the authority to do that, only the FCC has the authority to do that, and they don't go around doing this, they only go out if there has been a complaint, and that is usually about people running high powered 100 watt or more pirate radio stations. Even then, the first case is a slap on the wrist telling you not to do it anymore. Only repeat offenders get fined for those much bigger violations,
no family using this radio, even on the licensed channels without a license, are ever going to have to worry about anything.

Every store from Walmart to Sporting Stores sell these radios and millions of American families are using them on the GMRS frequencies without getting a license.

In fact, at one time CB radio had a license requirement too. But in the 70s, most didn't bother to get a license for that service either, and the FCC isn't going to find and fine millions of American citizens, so instead, what did they do?

They ELIMINATED the license requirment for CB radio!

Now NO LICENSE is required for CB radio today, and very soon, the same will be true for GMRS frequencies, just as they recenlty became for the itinerant business band frequencies, because if millions of people don't follow the laws, then the laws change to follow the people.

But although at the time of this writing, yes, technically using the GMRS frequencies or one watt power of this particular model without a license is illegal, it is perfectly legal for you to own and use this radio on the FRS channels that operate with a half watt.

If you forget which ones are legal to use or not without the license, just look at the display. The channels with the light "walkie talkie" icon are legal for everyone to use, the dark colored icon displays on the channels using 1 watt, which require the license.

But again, I assure you, no one listening is going to HEAR or MEASURE a difference between 1 watt and a half watt! Just as if YOU listen to others on these radios, you can't tell who is using 1 watt or a half watt, who is licensed and who is not, and nor would YOU care or go and check other people to see if they are operating legaly or not either. Nor do you have the authority to demand to see anyone's FCC license.

NOW ON TO THE REVIEW...

I have had and used this set for a few years already, and these radios are GREAT. Being a licensed ham radio operator, I have a set of 2-meter VHF "walkie talkies" that operate on 5 watts and do not have the range and reliability that these 1 watt radios do! I now only use this set, and retired the ham radios, and going to many hamfests (a flea market exclusively with ham radio equipment and computers) many other hams are doing the same thing as I see a lot of these around recently.

About all I can add, is that I have found (and read other people saying the same thing on the internet) is that Motorola FRS radios tend to not pick up or hear other brand FRS radios as well as it's own, and this set even has a feature to insure that even more. I like this, as I don't want to hear other people with the cheap sets, only my friends and family. Since most people won't spend the money for a good set of Motorolas, and instead buy the $15 or $30 set at Walmart, This insures me I don't have to hear as many of those people, let them buy the inferior brands.

However, They still tend to hear you, but that is their problem, not yours.

Perhaps next time they will do some research BEFORE they go out and purchase something.

I've always loved the crisp, clear images on NEC monitors...with this one set to 1600 x 1200 resolution...WOW!

Just wish they would have thrown in a DVI cable so I could use the new DVI-compatible monitor with my DVI video card!
