Comfortable, but some difficulties with the audio .......2006-06-11

I was using this product with a Motorola E815 ... the first time I tried to use it was on a very busy street, during the rain. The receiving audio seemed full of static, and both the receiving and transmitting audio seemed to fade in and out. I just chalked it up to the adverse environment.

The second time I tried it in the comfort of my home; the receiving side fading and static were still quite apparent. I had to return this headset, which was unfortunate - it is very comfortable for someone who wears glasses.

I purchased a Plantronics MX153-M1 (for $22 at an family-run electronics store a few blocks away from J&R Music and Computer World), the version of the MX150 made specifically for Motorola phones - v60, v70, v120, T720 and later phones. The MX153-M1 adds a push-button towards the upper-middle of its cord that enables the headset wearer to dial the last-dialed number, use voice-activated dialing, answer calls, and end calls without touching the phone. The MX153-N1 and MX153-N3 are push-button versions of the MX150 for Nokia phones. The base MX150 itself does not have the push-button and associated functionality.

The MX150's earbud is anchored to the wearer's ear by a soft rubber grip that wraps under and essentially clips the earlobe (pinna). It takes several seconds to fit the earbud and pivot the microphone boom to their proper angles; this must be done each time the wearer puts on the headset. The disadvantage of this fitting requirement is that if you are not already wearing the headset when your phone starts ringing, you are better off answering your phone the old-fashion way. Once fitted however, the MX150 is light and comfortable to point of being unnoticeable. The MX150's FlexGrip design (shared by the Plantronics MX100 family) is better than ear-loop designs that can get in the way of eyeglasses and sunglasses; headband designs that can pull on the wearer's hair; and classic earbud designs that can easily fall off. People with earrings may not be comfortable with the MX150 because of its grip on the ear's pinna.

In contrast to generic headset microphones that often make the wearer sound distant, the MX150's microphone performance is very good and makes the wearer sound clear and close to the phone. The noice-cancelling microphone does a good job of eliminating ambient noise - even inside a moving New York City subway car. The MX150 family does not have microphone volume control and microphone mute functions.

Earpiece performance is good. The MX150 lacks earpiece volume control, relying instead on the phone's volume control functions. As with any headset design lacking self-powered earpiece volume amplification, ambient noise may be an issue in open or noisy environments, e.g. a busy New York City street or subway car.

The MX150's price competition is with the Jabra ProBoom. The latter has battery-powered earpiece volume amplification, but consumers should carefully weigh this great advantage against the MX150's fit and weight benefits. The two competitors also differ in push-button support. The MX150 family has push-button models for Motorola and Nokia phones, while the ProBoom family has push-button models for Nokia and Samsung phones.

Of the three Plantronics headsets that I have purchased (the other two being the M175 and M100), the MX153-M1 is the best one that I have yet used.

Clear Audio and Comfortable.......2007-02-19

This headset has a good microphone and speaker. It is much better than the Body Glove EarGlove headset that I used previously. The microphone transmits your voice so clearly that the person that you are speaking to often cannot tell that you are on a head set. However, the microphone is adversely affected by wind. It does not come with any foam over the microphone to help mitigate the effect of wind. Other than that, it is a great headset.

The Plantronics lightweight headset is designed to free your hands while you drive or work with a wireless phone. Though the unit's noise-canceling microphone makes it especially suitable for calls placed over a cell phone, it's also appropriate for use with traditional office phones.

Recipients of our phone calls reported no annoying disturbances or distortions during conversation, and audio quality on our end was clear as well, if a bit muffled. The headset works best on phones that feature good volume controls, because the microphone adjust switch raises and lowers the volume in a very narrow range.

The M175 also has the nifty feature of converting from a headband to an over-the-ear-style headset. Unfortunately, this also makes for a somewhat flimsy construction. Pieces immediately began falling off the unit as soon as we removed it from its packaging, though snapping the components back in place took little effort.

Overall, the Plantronics M175 headset is a versatile, quality headset for those looking for a hands-free way to work with their mobile or cordless phones. --John Frederick Moore

Not as good as original.......2007-09-04

I have bought 2 of the Plantronic phones and have replaced only one of the headsets. It was not the original headset that comes with the phone but has many other options.

Two gripes.

1. There isn't a red light indicator light on this headset, so when you are on the phone, people don't know if you are on the phone for sure or not.

2. There is distortion in the earpiece. A steady loud/soft sound. Quite annoying when waiting on hold and there isn't music. Almost like feedback but without the high pitched sound.

Other than that, it is a quality headset and is compatible with the phone that I have.

This product is very functional but sometimes it seems to get shorts in them and people can not hear you. Would recommend, though, it is my favorite one.

I love that this headset stays firmly on the head with the band and firmly on the ear with just the ear piece. The sound quality is great, and the ability to mute the mic is the main reason I bought this. The mute switch is in a convenient place and has a nice clip to attach to your shirt. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I have had a lot of people tell me I sound somewhat distorted when talking on it. Usually I can make it better by adjusting the mic volume (another nice feature) or by moving the mic away from my mouth. Overall good purchase for the money.

Very good headset!.......2007-07-14

I bought this headset to use with my cordless phone system which I use with Skype. I have a Bluetooth headset on my left ear, and I keep this one on my right so I can answer my cell phone and the regular phone simultaneously while I am working on my computer. I use only Motorola cell phones and Bluetooth units, and previous cordless phone headsets left a lot to be desired. The Plantronics unit is wondeful; it's light enough that I forget it's there, and even half-deaf me can hear it well. The adjustable hearing is great, as is the adjustable volume on the microphone. I heartily recommend it.

Look Ma, no hands!!!.......2007-06-11

This little gem has saved me more hands free time with my home phone line, than any other product I've purchased. I work out of my home and do most of my business on the phone and the internet. When a call comes through I simply press the talk button on my phone and continue doing whatever I happened to be doing at the time. The headset is very comfortable wear as it is light weight and the padding to the ear piece feels like a pillow. The volume and, mute controls are great features, and the price is unbeatable! I've never had a complaint from the person on the other end of the line stating they are unable to hear me. I'd love to suggest that all businesses take a serious look at this product, as it is very annoying to make or take a call and the person on the other end can't be heard due to their head set microphones not being able to pick up their voice! I know the problem is not on my end as the voice clarity is excellent. As first stated, it is a "gem"!
