Talking book reader.......2006-07-27

I purchased this player just to read talking books. I've had no problems. The instructions are a bit vague, but I finally figured out how to "keep my place". It did seem to use a lot of batteries so I purchased an adaptor.

I certainly have not had the experiences noted by the previous reviewer.

defective manufacture.......2005-10-30

This was purchased for me as a gift. It soon began to exhibit repeats through a disk, any disk -- usually from 14 track onward. I only listen to books on tape on the player so the problem is particularly annoying. Once a track is completed, instead of advancing, it begins that track again, and again, etc. This is not due to motion or bumping. To proceed, one must manually advance. A replacement was sent by Amazon. Unfortunately the new unit exhibits exactly the same problem.

The system pumps 6 watts per channel through a pair of 2-way speakers, ,each of which uses a 3-inch woofer and a .5-inch tweeter. You can play your homemade MP3 music compilations, too. This unit is compatible with multi-session MP3 discs, but if there are a lot of sessions it will take more time for playback to commence. Albums and tracks will play in alphanumeric order, so number your files and folders to ensure a desired playback sequence. The boombox does not support MP3 song and album title display. If a CD-ROM-format CD contains MP3 and files other than MP3, only the MP3 files will be playable.

CD synchro start helps you record custom music mixes on cassette, and auto-scan tuning sets your presets for you (12 FM, 12 AM) when you power up for the first time. I'm very satisfied with this product. The sound quality is very good for a small, portable boombox. I could have purchased a cheaper product at Wal-Mart (Durabrand), but I'm happy I made this decision. I don't play many CD's right now, but the boombox is also a great emergency radio should inclement weather leave me without electricity. My only negative comment is I had to purchase four AA and six C batteries for all systems to work (including the remote control).

Sound - Good; Features - Lacking.......2007-01-07

I agree with other reviewers that the sound is quite good with the player. For this price, however, I am disappointed in the shortness of the headphone wire, and the lack of an armband or belt clip with this player. I do not have a "pocket" to put this in when I work out or am listening. It is quite frustrating that cheaper players thought ahead of the mobile need for "attaching" the player on your belt, and this design did not.

I bought this unit a few months ago and just love it. My favorite feature is that it has RESUME on the CD and MP3'S. This is quite useful when listening to regular CD audio books or MP3 audio books. Because this unit is so terrific, I gave it 5 stars because:
1) It has the 4.5 adapter plug for saving batteries.
2)Overall, this unit is easy to use and has WONDERFUL STEREO SOUND and equalizers!
3) Skip free and lightweight, easy to travel with!
4) Excellent designing, easy to use features.
5) Clear and easy to understand booklet.
The only drawback is that it uses AAA Batteries.
In order to use this in my office, I went and bought some small Altec Lansing speakers so I can listen to it on my desk. And of course, take it everywhere I go and it stays skip free! The batteries last on MP3's about 20 hours, not what they tell you. But all in all, I do love this unit!

I bought this CD player a couple of months ago, and I'm still satisfied. The batteries last as advertised, and the included headphones outperform the more expensive ones I use at work. Give Panasonic your business.

Hi everyone,

I finally found this player after returning Philips and CPD to Target - I was looking for a player which would sound like my hi fi. Finally! It sounds very good even with mp3 music thanks to DRMT - digital re-mastering Technology.
Crisp sound, Eq allows to enhance low frequencies, I found many nuances in old CDs I did not notice before.
I have had it for 3 days, so I can not say how resistant it is to dropping. It won't skip whgen I walk, but I hav e not tried running with it.
So far I'm happy with it - seems perfect for my needs.

A real mixed bag.......2005-12-06

First I paid $20 more than amazon is charging - so that is a good deal..

But I have had alot of mechanical issues with it...

First the headphones broke in about a week and a half - there are some fairly narrow areas and it snapped.

My second issue is that it takes AAA batteries in the player and AA in the separate unit that will extend the play time but really - this is impractical for my son who would take it and put it in his pocket. He was not going to take the extra battery pack. That made replacing the batteries a chore and expensive.

Third - the unit failed in about 5 weeks - after I had thrown out the reciept and couldnt return it to the store. I will say that I called panasonic and they have a year warentee so they are going to replace the unit if I send it to them...however when the headphones broke I just threw them out and they wont replace them. I think they should - I got a fairly expensive unit that was mechanically imperfect, I am sending them the main part and I think they should cough up a set of head phones for my trouble (not to mention my postage expense).

On the good side this had nice audio and the company is going to stand behind it - even if not quite as much as I think they should.... I am assuming I just had a unit that was a lemon and that once replaced I will have a working unit that will last a long time

Fantastic for work but not great for gaming.......2005-02-22

I bought this KVM for work in 2004 and have been using it ever since. Since then, I also bought one for home, a coworker bought one for work, and the office finally bought two more when the price went down by about 40%.

The KVM works great! I've used it on Windows 2000/XP machines, as well as Red Hat/Fedora Core Linux from RH7.3 to FC3. Usually I run it at 1280x1024 or lower resolution on a 19" LCD or CRT.

The main downside, as others have mentioned, is that it only supports three mouse buttons and the scroll wheel (the wheel "click" is the third mouse button). That means I can't play Halo with it because I lose my "melee" and "exchange weapon" mouse buttons. :'( I don't know if it supports the sideways scrolling on the new MS and Logitech mice with tilt wheels.

The other issue I have had with this KVM is that its PS/2 inputs are too close together. I cannot both a USB keyboard and USB mouse at the same time on this, because the two USB-to-PS/2 adapters won't fit side-by-side at the same time. Had the mouse and keyboard ports been spaced further apart or arranged one on top of the other instead of side-by-side, this would not be a problem.

One thing nobody else really mentions is that this KVM does not beep. That is a great thing, especially for the workplace. At the office we also have an 8-port IOGear KVM which beeps whenever you switch computers, and the noise can be very disruptive to others.

Everyone who uses two computers on a regular basis, or who troubleshoots computers, should have at least one of these things. They'll save you a lot of time and hassle.

Even with these two annoyances, I think the GCS52U is a fantastic product and I'm glad I bought mine. The new, lower price (since summer 2004) makes this an excellent bargain for anyone who's tired if crawling under the computer desk to swap cables.

easy setup and works well.......2004-06-25

I have a desktop and notebook that I use this product with so I can control both from my desktop monitor. The only issue I had was that I had a cordless keyboard and mouse and they didn't work very well with this product. Iogear's website says the product does not really work well with cordless keyboards and mice. After I switched to a corded keyboard and mouse it worked fine.

Could only get to work intermittently with an older

Two big flaws...but otherwise good.......2004-02-19

This is a nice KVM switch, very small, with built in cables, and relatively inexpensive. For many people, this would be a very good choice.

EXCEPT if you use a mouse with extra side-buttons or if you use one or the other of the computers for gaming. It may just be because it has PS2 inputs and not enough channels for the information, but the side buttons on my mouse don't work through this switch.

Also, the keyboard and mouse signals seem to be a little rough. This doesn't really have an effect in most computer use, but when gaming, at times holding down a key won't do anything. I have to repeatedly press the key to get it to register. It's very annoying.

There doesn't seem to be any problem with video. That looks fine.

This won't work for me, but it may work fine for others. Given that most of the alternatives are twice as expensive, it could be a good choice for many.

As I write this in Mid-January of 04, there is little info available at Amazon's page for this item.

It is important that potential buyers know that this item is labled as a 'usb' kvm switch. What Iogear means by this is that you plug a monitor cable and a usb cable into each computer, then plug your monitor and PS2 mouse and keyboard into the kvm.
I bought this item supposing that I would be able to plug in my USB mouse and keyboard.

Otherwise this might be and excellent KVM switch. Unfortunately I had to put a rating on this review so I placed a 3 with my kvm UNOPENED as it does not suit my needs.
