Product Description
It's a fact: almost all receivers and rack systems include nothing more than a "T" wire dipole antenna for FM reception. These throwaway, low tech antennas provides marginal reception at best, and are highly susceptible to noise and interference. The TERK AM/FM+ antenna provides a dramatic improvement in reception, at a pleasantly modest cost!
Amazon.com Product Description
Based on the common-sense notion that stereo owners want to listen to music, not static, Terk Technology's AM/FM+ antenna is an ideal fit for casual and intense music fans alike. The antenna, which connects to virtually any radio or receiver, captures a crisp, high-end signal that far surpasses those of in-the-box competitors. Most receivers and rack systems come with "T" wire dipole antennas for FM reception, which provide marginal reception at best and are highly susceptible to noise and interference. The AM/FM+, by contrast, is omnidirectional, meaning it receives signals equally from all directions to ensure topnotch reception wherever your equipment is located. In addition, the device incorporates specialized noise-reducing elements to trim static to an absolute minimum, so listeners can enjoy clear signals from as many stations as are within range.
The AM/FM+ is simple to connect and use--just plug it into your radio or receiver and you're set. The device comes complete with matching transformers for 75 ohm and 300 ohm antenna inputs. In addition, the AM/FM+'s compact design blends with almost any décor. Listeners have the option of placing the antenna on or next to a component or mounting it on the wall. The latter option not only offers a unique look, but it may improve reception as well. It also separates the antenna from other audio components and electronics, which may reduce noise and interference.

Terk Does Not Werk.......2007-08-10
My Sangean WR2 table radio comes with a crappy wire antenna but evidently a pretty good tuner - with the crappy antenna connected, I was able to get better than average FM tuning in my NYC office, but non-existent AM tuning. After spending $20 on the Terk AM FM+ passive antenna, I discovered minor increases in FM tuning (2 stations came in stronger, but no new stations could be tuned) and zero increase in AM tuning.
The Terk needed to be moved around a bit to maximize signal strength, the same as the mfgr's out of the box wire, but the ugly bulky Terk and its voluminous wires was far less convenient to move around, took up more desk space, and was an obtrusive eyesore. All in all, slightly improved tuning on two stations was not worth the $20 and added inconvenience of using the Terk.
This is my second Terk disappointment; one of their powered TV antennas was even worse - costlier and with plastic junk knobs that fell off quickly. This seems like a pretty inferior company, and their prices are certainly much higher than the quality or effectiveness of their products would indicate.
Does the job.......2007-06-08
The device needs to be facing a window, and not too far from a window, and it will work. I didn't have any antenna and was looking for an antenna, and in my opinion this is a little bit better than your average antenna. Good crisp sound. AM kind of stinks, but FM is good.
Terk Technology AM/FM+ Radio Antenna - Good product.......2007-03-09
I have terrible radio reception on my home stereo system - could not even listen to basketball on ESPN without having to jack the volume way to get some sort of sound over the hiss of my speakers. I bought this Terk Technology AM/FM+ Radio Antenna and I no longer hear a hiss on radio stations. Wish I'd thought about purchasing one a few years back...

Black plastic junk.......2006-11-07
Didn't connect to my hi end Yamaha Reciever, and once it did, it didn't work. Going back to the store. Lost more channels after I hooked it up! Don't waste your money on this blac plastic junk.
Underwhelmed by Reception and Size.......2006-02-24
This antenna did not offer good reception. In fact, unless "aimed" precisely, it seems to be no different than having no antenna. Additionally, it is large and awkward.

Works great.......2006-12-19
My office is a metal framed brick building so FM reception is "sketchy" at best. The wire antenna that came with me executive stereo just wasnt worthy. Barely pulled in Local stations. With the Terk I am able to pull in FM from 100 miles away. Thanks, I think, to the fact that it is amplified and adjustable. This antenna was the best $19.00 I have ever spent. It is made by Audiovox if that matters. The fact of the matter is that this antenna is well worth the money. Buy it if you live in a fringe reception area and enjoy clear real stereo FM broadcasts.
Good Antenna, improved my weak receiver's reception tremendously!.......2006-07-20
This antenna is a good buy for the money. I have a sharp xlmp131 which had horrible reception for am and fm stations. I bought this product from a local store in town and tried it out. It improved my
reception of weak signals and cleared static from my strong ones. It also amplified the am so that i could recieve stations I never used to get!
Pros: Elegant design and superior technology
Cons: Wish the cable was longer than about 3ft. But other than that nothing else.
Almost completely useless.......2004-10-12
I was fooled. I thought, "Oh, a vertically polarized, amplified antenna ought to work pretty well, at least a little better than the antenna built into the power cord of my tabletop radio." Well, folks, it doesn't. In a few minutes, you can make a very simple passive dipole antenna (i.e., a hunk of wire, basically) with a piece of 300-ohm flat twin-lead wire (you know, the stuff that's flat with two wires about a 1/4" apart in molded plastic...goes for about a dime a foot) that works better for FM. I know because I did a side-by-side comparison between the Terk and my homebrew dipole...the dipole pulled in the station I wanted in stereo while the Terk antenna could only get me a noisy mono signal at any gain setting. As a radio hobbyist (licensed ham radio operator), I am ashamed to admit that I fell for this one, so please don't tell anyone.

Doesn't work at all.......2004-08-16
Terrible. Tried several positions (flat and upright), nothing seemed to improve reception. May as well not have been plugged in at all. Let's say the 1 star is for the lighted green dial on the front, since I can't give it zero stars...

TERK Indoor AM/FM Antenna.......2007-04-18
The price paid for this product is a waste. As some other reviews have stated, a coat hangar would probably be just as good. No matter where I move the antenna or adjust the gain, the reception is awful! I have a Technics audio receiver and the AM/FM is useless to me at this time. I have a table radio (Boston Acoustics) that runs circles around my aided TERK antenna reception. Where does TERK get the idea or proof that their indoor anennas improve reception? It may be that the ony good antenna is an outdoor antenna.
If I could rate 0, I would........2007-04-15
Made absolutely no difference vs. the factory supplied antenna. In fact once I moved the factory supplied wire a bit, the reception was better than with this product. If I could have given it 0 stars I would have, since it is not worth one star.
A Coat Hanger Is Superior.......2007-02-09
Save your money folks. This product may work perfectly in the lab, but it's useless in a more 'ordinary' environment. I was actually able to get better recption by creating a 3 foot loop of heavy gauge copper wire (AM). Still haven't figured out what to do to improve FM, but that was the whole thrust behind the Terk.
This does work if installed properly.......2007-01-07
I have two of these and I make sure that they are clear of any other wiring near the loop. The gain has to be adjusted to signal strength and depending upon where the station you are tuning into is located, the gain may have to be adjusted. One is attached to a Yamaha receiver that is 12 years old and the other is attached to a Yamaha HTR-6090 7.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver. I get good quality on both. I don't know how or in what way the other raters were using theirs or if they had defective units, but I can say that my experience has been very good with this antenna.
Rubbish.......2006-03-16
This is worse than no antenna. I have one of the most sensitive FM receivers in the business, a Tivoli Model Two, which has discrete components in the FM front end.
The station I listen to is KUSC-FM which is 91.5. I am some 30 miles from the transmitter on a mountain peak near Mt. Wilson. I should be able to snag that station with full quieting.
The antenna connection to the dongel which both supplies power and provides the connection to the antenna lead is totally unsheilded. This allows the stupid thing to pick up all sorts of noise from my computers in my office. That's the reason why I bought an external antenna in the first place, to get the antenna away from the RF of my computers. Furthermore, when I follow instructions and fold the AM loop down so that the red LED turns on, it splatters noise across the FM band.
The PI-B not only doesn't work, it actually makes things considerably worse than the built-in antenna in the radio.
Save your money. Either get an inexpensive dipole from Radio Shack. Or, find somebody that sells the Fanfare FM2G (or Fanfare FM2G-C).

Not a good choice for me.......2006-08-30
This product was not very good at all. I live in North Jersey where the signal for common metro area stations are poor. My car gets better reception than this antenna. This was not a good product. I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone. I only give it one star because I cannot give it a lower rating. Otherwise I would give it a ZERO.
Doesn't really work.......2006-03-19
Didn't seem to make the FM reception any better, except for the fact that when I was trying to get the classical station from NYC, to my horror, I got loud and clear, the local Christian station. Not what I wanted. The AM reception was completely gone; I went back to the antenna which came with the Onkyo tuner, which sort of works. I didn't have much luck with the "pin the dot" tuning system. More gain just made it more static-y (with more pain).
Bottom line will be an attempted return to CC; we'll see how that goes.
Don't buy it!.......2004-04-12
We purchased this two years ago for the same price and have felt ripped off ever since. I can't believe it is still on the market. It does not do what an almost $80 piece of equipment should do. It barely improves the reception. Keep shopping for a better quality antenna. There is no "Pin-Dot Pre-Tuning" with this hunk of junk.
Simple Wire Does Better.......2003-07-21
Got this, it added nothing to the simple wire that came with the radio. I got a more substantial wire antenna ... at [local store] that did worlds better than this.
You're better off with the cheaper tower.......2002-08-30
I bought this antenna to replace a Terk tower antenna I had in my office that wasn't able to pick up AM stations very well. It turned out that I was MUCH better off with the tower. This thing didn't pick the AM stations well at all. I immediately returned this thing and went back to the tower.
