Video Features
The progressive-scan output is king of this unit's video features, but keep in mind that you'll need a high-definition or HD-ready TV to appreciate its benefits. (The included S-video and composite-video outputs work just fine with older TVs, however.) Progressive scanning displays all 480 video lines in one pass to provide strong vertical resolution and flicker-free, high-density images. Likewise, 3:2 pulldown is a videophile treat. It accurately translates 24-frames-per-second movies into 30-frames-per-second television signals, correcting any distortion and removing redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture on any component-video-equipped direct-view or projection TV or monitor.
Audio Features
The DVD-P721M is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 audio files. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimal decoding of all disc formats, while 2x audio playback lets you hear the movie or music while you search, where most other DVD players are mute. The player's Phantom Surround processor simulates surround-sound effects using only two speakers, and a 25-inch stereo headphone jack has a convenient rotary volume control.
Connections
Beyond the Memory Stick port, the DVD-P721M's traditional audio connections include two sets of left/right analog-audio outputs for compatibility with stereo Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions and two digital-audio outputs (one each of coaxial and optical) to route Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel signals to a surround-decoding audio/video receiver. The back panel offers one output each for S-video and top-of-the-line component-video, as well as two standard composite-video outputs.
Other Features
The player provides motion zoom, chapter digest, and a universal remote control (with jog/shuttle dial) that operates the DVD-P721M as well as most TVs and VCRs. My personal review on the Samung Progressive Scan would be the mulit-cabliblites of the pro- scan DVD from Screen to DVD. The over all clarity of the progressive scan is next to the top ten next with the Sony DVD and Video Progressive-Scan, and the Philips. Although, the following questions of it's mulit-usage, maybe , How would this product work with my entertainment system quailty and or Is this product able to be used with my pc or audio system?" Yes, to both the Audio and Visual question being that during the actual connection process is so simple a child could program the Samsung Progressive Scan. In closing wether dealing with a simple digital camera to the a Kitchen Mixer , I rate from personal usage of this product at the highest a 10.

Progressive scan never worked correctly from day one. Didn't want
to get into shipping back and forth to the repair center, so bought a
Panasonic replacement (that works perfectly) and threw
the Samsung unit in with my soup cans and bottles for recycling.
Never again Samsung, ... never again ...
Good for DVDs only.......2003-05-14
This DVD player played my DVDs just fine, but it had big problems with Audio CDs and Photo CDs.
For DVDs, it works well. The remote is very well laid out, so I can keep my eyes on the TV while I'm using the remote. (All remotes should be this well designed.) Unfortunately, the joystick (which takes the place of the directional buttons) is a bit unreliable. I often have to jiggle it to get it to go they way I'm pushing it. This is annoying, but it has a second "mini" remote with ordinary buttons that work fine. Still, switching between two remotes is annoying.
The most useful feature is the "Instant Replay" button, which I LOVE. If I miss a bit of dialog because of room noise, I just hit instant replay, and it jumps back ten seconds.
For Photo CDs, it's pretty bad. It takes forever to load the pictures, and the controls for zooming and panning are so amazingly awkward to use that they're not worth it.
For Audio CDs, it's completely unacceptable. It cuts off the last two seconds of each audio track. You may not notice this on a lot of tracks because the song fades out or has two or three seconds of silence anyway, but for songs that play to the end if the track it's infuriating. I had to take it back.
I never used the memory stick or progressive scan, so I can't comment on them. I couldn't get the 3D audio to do anything.
If you're not interested in playing audio or photo CDs, it's a perfectly acceptable DVD player with a good remote control. But for audio and JPEG, it stinks.
Economical DVD player to have........2003-03-14
Wanted to purchase a progressive scan DVD player and settled on this one because of the great price. Bought it middle of February and have had no problems with it so far. Picture quality is great, easy install, able to play all DVD's and CD's in my collection so far, including burned CD's. I haven't been able to test out the memory stick capabilities yet but nice option to have. If you are in the market for progressive scan DVD under $..., I would recommend this one. It's sleek, compact and easy to hook up. The main remote is a little clunky with the toggle selector but a minor design flaw.
Singing Samsung's Praises.......2003-03-01
I just bought this Samsung DVD player to accompany my new HDTV - I was specifically shopping for an affordable Progressive Scan DVD player (as the progressive scan players are supposed to look AWESOME on HDTV). Another feature I really needed was a headphone jack - and when you add that to your "wants" list, the number of Progressive Scan players with a headphone jack dwindles.
So, after doing a lot of online research, I decided this Samsung model met all of my needs - including the headphone jack!
After using it for a few days, I am happy with my purchase. My DVDs look incredible on my HDTV. I have been putting in each DVD I own and checking out the amazing quality, detail, and color. The Samsung player is sleek, and easy to use. I had no problems hooking it up to the TV. The menu options are pretty intuitive, in my opinion, and having owned an RCA DVD player before, not much different.
My one complaint (not a big one) is the remote controls. You get two. The first one has all the buttons you would expect. The second is small, with just a few buttons. At first, I would have assumed that I would be using the smaller remote - so much more simpler and fits in the palm of your hand!
The first remote (with all the buttons) has a toggle button to navigate menus with. The toggle button doesn't work that well. I prefer the up-down-left-right buttons (which are on the second, smaller remote!) So, I have found myself pressing buttons on the first remote, then switching over to the second remote to navigate the menus.
The remotes, therefore, aren't that great.
I have also found that the Samsung will play all of the audio discs my friends burn for me - my old RCA player wouldn't do this. Sometimes, the Samsung gets confused by the formats and may take a few extra seconds to load. I have also noticed that it tends to ignore "blank" space between tracks. So when you're listening to an audio cd, the tracks play RIGHT AFTER EACH OTHER WITH NO SPACE IN BETWEEN. Again, not a horrible problem, but kind of weird.
I'm sticking with my Samsung, though. I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. And, one has to weigh price/functionality as well. For the price, I think I got a great deal.

People can't hear me.......2006-12-11
I got this about a year ago. People complain they can't hear me unless I talk really loud. The other phone in our house (also a panasonic, but a kx-tg2258s) didn't have this problem, but it just died and displays an 'e3' error code. I am finished buying panasonic phones, and for other products I buy, I will consider other brands first.
Usually like Panasonic... but not this one........2006-09-01
Bought this phone a few months ago to replace old cordless Panasonic 2.4 GHz that died. This is probably the worst phone I've ever owned.
Several reasons:
1) The range is WORSE than the 2.4 GHz I had! I used to be able to get great reception in every room of my large one-level home and in my big yard. Now I can only venture about 3/4 of the distance I could before... and then the connection starts to break up. And I've given up taking it outside.
2) The "voice enhancer" is useless. It doesn't work. The sound is worse than just leaving it in normal mode.
3) Love the speaker-phone feature in the handset, but it doesn't work when you have it sitting in the recharger/base. (Dumb!) It'd be nice when the battery gets really low to be able to use the speaker phone while it charges. But nope... if you run out of charge, the phone is useless until it recharges again.
4) I still can't figure out the phone's weird caller-ID inconsistency. Sometimes it doesn't register incoming calls at all... and worse, it doesn't register all missed calls so I can contact people who may not have left a message. And instead of listing each ID in the order it came in, especially duplicate callers, it'll just put a check mark by a recently called entry... so you know that person called more than once, but you don't know when. Yeah, if people leave messages every time they call, this wouldn't be a problem... but you know they don't.
I'm usually not hard to please, but I'm looking now to replace this phone that is fairly new.

Another nice feature is the caller ID/call waiting combo (subscription required). Caller ID lets you see who's calling before you answer the phone, while call waiting lets you know when another call is coming in. By combining the two, however, users will learn who's calling even when they're currently in the middle of a conversation with someone else. When you hear the beep, simply look at the handset's LCD display to identify the name and number. It's especially convenient when you're waiting for an important call but still have other calls to make.
The handset speakerphone, meanwhile, is a plus when dealing with automated phone systems. You can turn on the speakerphone, put down the handset while watching TV or typing, and then pick it back up when a voice finally responds. It's far more convenient than trudging all the way to the base unit to activate the speakerphone. So far this phone had been working out just fine for me. No interference with my Wi-Fi system. Good sound quality and good range in my house. I do recommend this phone if you're looking for a cordless phone. I didn't even realize I had bought a remanufactured phone until I was doing this review.

Lens
The optical zoom magnifies up to 10 times, while the digital zoom, which works by electronically enhancing the optical image, reaches up to 400 times. Digital Stills

Inputs and Outputs
The standard DV IEEE1394 port (also called FireWire) is present for a no-loss connection to a PC or other DV machines, as well as a USB port. S-video and RCA A/V connections are used for direct viewing on a television or VHS dubbing. You can also plug in an external microphone via the mic jack for better sound.
MiniDV Format
MiniDV digital technology delivers clear, sharp video with up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution--far superior to the 240 lines of resolution offered by 8mm camcorders. You'll get minimal color noise interference for a more stable picture. You'll also get excellent sound quality in either 12-bit or 16-bit audio recording modes.
- 16-bit audio includes one set of stereo audio tracks to produce CD-quality sound.
- 12-bit audio uses two sets of audio tracks, so you can easily add background music or commentary to your videos while maintaining the existing soundtrack.
This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12 the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of two full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

Best investment I ever made!.......2004-01-01
I purchased this camera in Singapore last May and I paid $1100. I compaired this camera to literally hundreds. If you have ever been to Singapore you would know its the electronics super center of SE Asia. This camera didnt simply out perform other models like JVC, Sony and Canon. It destroyed the competition. Night vision on this camera is fantastic compared to the long list of others I tried. This model is user friendly with easy to follow directions. The Samsung website has fabulous tutorials of how to work this camera too. This is selling for a way lower price than I paid. Its a steal at this price. Get the camera and you will know what I mean by performance. The guy that wrote the 2 star review.. he must be writing about a Sony.
GREAT camera, ignore fake negative reviews.......2003-08-16
This product is great. It's a DIGITAL video camcorder and is just so smartly designed (controls on the back within easy reach, remote control can snap onto/into the camera, etc), for the price of a poor analog camera with less features. Everyone I've talked about the camera is nothing less than enthusiastic about the quality and value for the money. It even has an effect (unfortunately called Make-Up mode) that will only highlight one color (like in "Schindler's List", as CNET noted).
I do have to say that I'm very creeped out by the "Ray Chan" negative review here, in which he copied negative reviews from the CNET boards, and then pasted them (all put together) as his own negative review here on the Amazon site. On CNET, he's known as the "Sony freak", because he goes to all the Samsung products and gives them bad reviews in really bad English, while pushing Sony products. He's managed to bypass the bad English here on Amazon by taking other people's reviews as his own. Creepy ...
Great Camcorder!.......2003-08-03
I first purchased a Sony IP5 and was very disappointed. I hesitated to purchase the SCD590 due to some negative reviews... but I also felt that the reviews may have been staged. Anyway... I bought the camcorder... and we love it. QUALITY is GREAT... and that means picture, features, ease of use, and mechanical. We've had our SCD590 for about 3 months.

i got this cam about a week ago. so far so i am happy with this cam. actually, i did not expected this size, b/c i though much bigger, and even smaller than my hand. what is diferent b/t sonyand samsung. it looks same to me thru looking t,v.. and i do not know about the com, b/c it is going to be different story to how you capture thru com, (italk about pic quality)

Pros: Thoughtful control layout; intuitive user interface; nifty Make-up mode; still image capture to Memory Stick; sharp LCD; optional VL-S1FL unit functions as both a video light and a flash.
Cons: Questionable quality control; bottom-loading cassette; no built-in flash for shooting stills.
Summary: I was sold on this camera for its size. I have tested the quality of the images against my larger Sony TRV-310. While the unit produced acceptable results I was disappointed in the color fidelity. Contrast to my Sony, the Samsung displayed muted colors lacking the depth and sharpness I have taken for granted. I must admit that the features are very good, but the image quality is not very good. Dim light shooting is not the best for this camcorder, unless you want to use night pix (greenish infrared light) The quality control is BAAAD, there were many things wrong with my camcorder when I got it, I had to send it back to the store for a refund. Price is great, but I'm now concerned about the Samsung company, continously failing over and over.

One thing I read once and now believe...reserve about 10% of your home theatre budget for cables (If you are spending or plan on spending $5000.00 on TV, surround sound, speakers, etc, then plan on spending about $500.00 for cables.
But, Monster cables are overpriced, pieces of junk. I've spent a lot of money on cables and used to get Monster cables. I've had numerous cables fall apart in my hands, had ones that introduced video and audio noise and were actually worse than the junk cables that come with a component.
That coupled with the fact that Monster Cables is suing everyone on the planet that uses the name Monster in it (including Monster Garage, Monster.com, etc), I would stay far, far away from them!
Invest your money on good cables, but not Monster.

This product is the worst. The first one was broke when I opened it. The second one had no drivers. Tech support is awful as well. Really, don't buy this one...
Serious issues with later revs.......2001-11-20
These used to be some of the best cards to have, back when they were based on the REAL Digital Tulip chip. However, some years ago the Tulip went out of production and Netgear switched to an _almost_ compatible clone chip.
The LiteOn PNIC chip that the current cards use has a poor reputation (from what I've read) in the development community. I personally have used dozens of these cards over the past two years and have seen almost every manner of failure. We've had cards that can't auto-neg, ones that never seem to work, and worst of all, cards that will work for weeks and then die without warning. From what I've seen, these things never get decent performance, especially with multiple cards in a system.
I have used the FA310TX with Windows 95,98,NT,2k, Linux 2.2-2.4, and Free/OpenBSD. Across every OS and hardware platform I've tried I've seen the same problems, so it's definately not driver or configuration issues.
Save your money..........2001-11-19
Just buy the cheapest you can find. They work the best, becuase they have less bells and whistles.
