This handy feature simplifies the process of assessing and labeling unmarked tapes (admit it: you have several, at least).

Top-of-the-line component-video outputs (for DVD only) help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring DVD compatibility with nearly any television. The VCR output is composite-video and RF only. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs for both DVD and VCR components channels audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Move on and look for a better product.......2005-11-14

This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. From day one DVD's froze and skipped. I thought it was poor quality rentals so I started buying my own DVD's. Brand new DVD's would not play all the way through on the first viewing. Spend the extra money and but a better product, this is a waste of money.

Samsung DVD-V3650 Suits Us........2004-04-27

I'm glad I didn't listen to most of the reviews here. If you are just a normal person who isn't expecting to get a $600 Combo Unit for this price, you'll love it.

I purchased a Panasonic Home Theatre system 3 years ago and have had nothing but problems with it. It got so bad, in fact, that we needed to buy a new DVD player because the Panasonic would only recognize ANY DVD about 25% of the time.

Enter the Samsung DVD-V3650. We had an old Phillips/Mag VCR which had its nasty quirks, too. It made sense to get one unit.

I don't care much for the Samsung DVD-V3650's color. But that's not the important thing. I digress. We thought our TV was giving us "Wavy refresh rate things" going up and down our screen, but found with the new Samsung DVD-V3650 we no longer had them.

I like the fact that it has digital audio out jacks (optical and component). When I record a show, I like that I have a 30 second FFW button. I like that I can record and watch a DVD at the same time. Easy set up, yet pretty thorough.

We are very happy with this Samsung. My first with this company.

Disappointed in Samsung DVD3650 combo unit.......2004-03-30

I am disappointed in the unit. It was advertised to have VCD playback ability. It will not even recognize any VCD's at all. I give it 2 stars only because the progressive component output is a feature I was after too. It is a very quirky unit though. When using the progressive DVD output you are only able to program or view the VCR menu from the DVD component output even though the VCR is only output on composite or RF modulated outputs. Big dissapointment for a Samsung product. Had counted on it playing back VCD's so now it is only good for a guest bedroom.

Close, but no cigar.......2004-03-08

It took me a while to make up my mind about this unit. In general, I've had good luck with Samsung products (printer, cell phone) so I thought I'd give the DVD-3650 a try. I wanted to add DVD capability to my family room system, but didn't want to add another box. So this unit went in, and the VCR I was using went to the bedroom.

At first, I liked the unit overall; I'm fine with the remote; the buttons aren't too small for me, and I have big hands. The picture on the DVD is as good as necessary for a 30" TV. The VCR picture with pre-recorded tapes is OK. I like the access to manual tracking adjustment on the remote. And I haven't had any functional problems with it (over 3 months).

But little things bug me. I use VHS index search a lot, since I make compilations of several kids films on one tape to reduce bulk on trips. On the Samsung, you have to go deep into the menus to get to index search, instead of it being directly on the remote. When you finally do get to it via the menu, it is only available as introscan fwd or rev; you can't set it to search, for example, two indexes forward and start playing. Plus, it only searches at about 8x playback speed, so it's not much faster than just using scan during playback and searching manually. Its a totally lame implementation of what should be a standard feature.

Other minor quibbles; two vertical ribs on the VCR tape door that are apparently for aesthetics make it HARDER to insert a tape correctly. Not a big deal for an adult, perhaps, but a major frustration for a 4 year old, and there is NO good reason for them to be there. When the remote is in the VCR mode, the mute button becomes the VCR audio input select button. Since I use the VCR tuner for watching TV on a regular basis, this is a pain; I have to switch the remote back to TV function, press mute; press it again when the commercial is over, then press VCR again if I want to channel surf. And how often does the average person want to switch the audio input on a VCR anyway? Ever? THAT is something that should be in a menu.

Also, not a problem for me, but could be for many purchasers are the very limited number of TV brands controllable via the remote, far fewer than most other multibrand remotes I've seen. It would be a good idea to download the manual from the Samsung site to make sure your TV is listed before purchasing if you want to use this feature.

More significantly, I've recently discovered the VCR seems to be abnormally sensitive to anti-copy schemes; tapes I made from a DVD on another VCR using a Sima video stabilizer that play perfectly on that and every other VCR I own, have horizontal purple stripes on the Samsung.

All in all, if it played copied tapes properly, I'd be willing to put up with its other weaknesses. But as it is, even though I'm now stuck with it (didn't discover that problem until after Amazon's return time limit expired), I regret this purchase.

Just Aggravating.......2004-02-18

tuner works fine, but will not pass through a useable signal to tv when the unit is on (ie, recording one show on vcr tuner, watching another on tv), though the signal is fine if the unit is turned off. Some sort of interferance, I guess. Really nasty, noisy and unwatchable.

Can't play tapes taped on this unit on other vcr's (two high end Hitachi's)even though they play prerecorded video fine - well, ok, the tapes will play but the picture is very bad with a line of sparkles six inches wide through it, and you have to double the sound volume from normal tv listening to hear it, and then it hisses. Also, the audio flutctuates in volume from word to word.
Also seems to be a short of some kind in the "video in" connection in the vcr (no, it ain't my cable, i checked)because moving the unit no matter how slightly can go from signal to no signal and back again.

I put one star because there is no minus star rating.

Samsung does answer thier phones after the usual voicemail jail, and two customer service reps told me it sounded like I had a defective unit, then passed me over to a tech who tried to convince me there was no problem, blaming it on my other vcr's (they play other tapes fine, including prerecorded, why not from this vcr ?)to my cable connection (hmm, works fine with my other vcr's and tvs)to everything he could possibly think of and then finally admitted he couldn't figure out what was wrong.

The only bright spot in this whole experience is Amazon's return policy. I think. First time I've used it.

These spades are used on my Monster cables. They work as advertised. I just think they are over-priced. In hindsight, I would have preferred these were already on the cables. I doubt I will ever change the connectors.

In fact, just plug it in and it's ready for use. The only buttons you get to fiddle with is the power button which is located at the back and the one touch backup button at the front. Noise is certainly not an issue with this external hard drive as it runs so quietly that you did wonder if it's working sometimes. Backing up data with one touch button located at the front of the hard drive necessitates the installation of the bundled software, BounceBack Express. With BounceBack Express, you can even set such that certain directories of folders are backed up automatically on a regular basis. Weighing at about 1.18 Kg enables it to be easily carried around and its enclosed silver casing makes it look at home on almost any desktop. Furthermore, it hot swappable; you can connect and disconnect this Seagate external hard disk without switching it or the PC off first.

As data moves faster and gigabytes get cheaper, bigger storage options seem ever more important. We think you'll be hard pressed to find a device better able to live up to the demands of storage, convenience, and real-world space efficiency than Seagate's 160 GB external hard drive (model ST3160024ARK). The PC- and Mac-friendly drive offers ample connectivity (USB 2.0/1.1, IEEE 1394a), operational simplicity (just two controls: a rear-panel power switch and a front-panel backup button), and a powered-on state that ran, in our experience, both cool and quiet--especially impressive in a fast, 7,200 RPM drive.

"Front-panel backup button"? That's right: the unit comes with BounceBack Express backup software from CMS, which works seamlessly with the drive to safeguard every byte of your computer's hard-disk data, performing backups at frequencies, days, and times of your choosing. The first time you insert the Seagate it will automatically create a bootable backup drive with all of your valuable data, protecting you in the event of a complete disk crash.

The Seagate manages to be simultaneously stylish and unassuming. We found it remarkably innocuous when positioned directly before us. We had to reach over and touch it to sense its heat, and the only sound it utters is a light whirring punctuated by occasional clucks of the drive components during activity. Stash it five feet away and you'll probably never hear it, though you'll lose ready access to the backup button. If you're only using the drive for periodic backups, you can even turn it off and stash it somewhere, secure in the knowledge that you're just a hot-pluggable USB or FireWire connection away from your next backup (just make sure you "stop" it from your computer before disconnecting it).

So how much will 160 GB actually hold? First off, the drive's capacity as seen by our computer (a PC running Windows XP) was "only" 149.0 GB. While no drive gives you access to all bytes, 10 GB seems like a lot to go missing. Luckily, the remaining space is still nothing short of cavernous, storing upwards of 150 hours of VHS-quality audio and video, around 30,000 songs in MP3 or WMA format (128 kbps), or 40,000 high-resolution digital photos, or more than 200 of your favorite video games.

Set-up couldn't be easier, especially if you're running Windows XP or Mac OS X. Hook it up with one of the supplied cables, load the backup software, and start ferrying all your data to roomy safety. Took us all of 10 minutes, not including backup time. If you're connecting via FireWire, expect backups to take about 1.4 GB per minute (at 400 Mbps). For USB 2.0, expect 1.8 GB per minute (480 Mbps), and for USB 1.1, about 45 MB per minute (at 12 Mbps).

With 150 gigs to fill, you probably won't be looking for additional backups soon. But if you are--or think you might be--you'll be comforted to know that the unit is designed for stackability. A 600 (usable) GB array of four nestled drives would stand less than 10 inches tall in a space with a 7 x 7-inch footprint.

The accompanying software is pretty straightforward. If you leave the default settings, it will backup all data from your computer's hard disk every time you run the software. Alternately, after the initial setup you can select and group specific folders and files to backup, scheduling the times for backups as well as preferences for powering down the computer when the work is done. You may exclude locations for which you don't require backups, and a "compare" feature searches the drive for files no longer on your main system hard disk and gives you the opportunity to delete them from the Seagate. --Michael Mikesell

Yet another dead after 2 years.......2007-07-17

I purchased this drive for my Windows system in July 2005. It worked fine as a backup drive until exactly 2 years later, when, similar to the experiences of other reviewers, one night it started making loud clicking noises as though trying to calibrate itself, and after that it could never mount again, and in fact attempts to attach it caused other data transfers to hang until after I unplugged it from the USB port. Seagate's online diagnostic was actually helpful in identifying several dozen bad sectors, and its conclusion was that I should back up any data on the drive because it was hosed. This was impossible however (lucky there was only backup data on the drive), so I am now the owner of a very sturdily constructed 160GB doorstop.

Still a decent piece of hardware.......2007-06-28

I bought this device back in Fall '03 for school and have been using it ever since. Of course, back then I only had a 30gb HD on my laptop and my current laptop has 160gb, but it's still great as a back up for all of my mp3's and movies. 4 years of use definitely isn't bad, although I did pay a whopping $270 for it when it first came out.

Mac User Drive Failure.......2006-07-25

I bought this drive about a year ago and it worked fine until this morning.
Simply doesn't see any of the data that I've stored on it. The drive makes what may be a new noise but it's hard to tell.
Very surprising considering the unit has barely been touched or moved over its lifetime. I've been only using it for infrequent backups.
The only thing I can think to do is avoid these types of drives in the future.

Consolidation is the name of the game with the Sharp UX-CD600 communications center. The center has a fax machine, copying capabilities, a two-line multi-user expandable cordless phone system, and built-in answering machine--all your communication needs rolled into one.

The fax machine has a 14,400 bps (approximately 6 seconds per page) modem speed and a 448 KB memory, which stores up to 24 pages of incoming faxes. A paper input of up to 50 pages is accompanied by a 10-page automatic document feeder, which can handle documents up to legal size. The copier is capable of making up to 99 copies at a time, with resolutions of up 392 lines/inch.

A corded phone is included on the base. A cordless handset and remote charger base (to which you can add up to seven, for a total of eight) can be placed anywhere you have an AC outlet. This 2.4 GHz phone utilizes digital spread spectrum technology to deliver a clear, easily intelligible signal and increased range. You get up to 8 hours of talk time (up to 2 days on standby), and a low-battery indicator lets you know when you need to return the phone to its cradle for recharging.

The UX-CD600 supports caller ID with call waiting (requires subscription through your phone company) and comes with a digital duplex speakerphone on the base for hands-free communication. The built-in answering machine has up to 20 minutes of recording time and eight separate mailboxes, so you can assign a different one to everyone in the house. Sharp provides a limited 90-day warranty on both parts and labor.

not a quality machine.......2006-06-21

I purchased this machine for our new office because it offered a two-line phone, fax and 8 voice mailboxes. It was the only system I found that had more than three or four mailboxes. The problems we have with the machine are buzzing on the outgoing message, poor sound quality, flimsy fax film that split the first week we used it, and now the additional cordless phone that came with it stopped working. We tried a different (new) phone and that won't work either. The machine clicks when the cordless goes on, but we can't get a dial tone. Sharp said we were past warranty (90 days, I think) so we're out of luck. I sure wouldn't spend money to fix this terrible machine.

Excellent product for our needs.......2006-04-19

While the unit does have all the "features" noted by others, it also has all the features of $10,000 PBX systems, albeit for a max of 8 users.

In our case, we don't use the phoneset at the main unit, so it's quality is irrelevant. Nor do we fax much; almost everything happens via email today. And we don't need 2 separate greetings because this is for one small business, not shared business/home as I suspect was the case with the previous reviewer.

We like that it routes incoming calls to a specific user (press 1 for jane, 2 for john...) which will ring only that users' handset and roll over to that users' mailbox if unanswered.

It supports both a shared and personal phone books of commonly dialed numbers. We dedicate line 1 to incoming calls and line 2 is for outgoing calls, faxes, and is shared with a DSL internet connection. You can download the manual from Sharp and I think you'll be amazed by all the features for remote access, etc. We don't use most of them in favor of email, but if you bought these in a Centrex System (hosted at your phone co.) or a PBX (device in your office) system, you'd pay $10,000 or more (and perhaps another $5,000 more to install the PBX). Because the phonesets are all wireless, the installation was trivial.

We bought this new with 6 phonesets for just about $200. It would have been a good deal at full retail.

Very disappointing.......2005-06-01

This was meant to be a replacement for a combo two-line phone/answering machine. The corded phone is practically unusuable due to poor sound quality and resonance, while the answering machine provides eight mailboxes but, in a baffling move, does not allow you to have different messages for each of the two lines. The display does not show what line calls are coming in on, and, oddly, also does not show the caller ID information when the phone rings, though you can get it later! The fax tends to get confused and when someone pauses in their message sends out fax recognition signals. Add to that the expensive ribbons with low capacity and you have a package that's unsuitable for many users. It's fine as a fax but don't fool yourself, the built in phone isn't meant to be used as such.

I was just about to order this based on FAX BLAST's review, when I checked his other review, which states that he returned THIS ITEM because it seemed like a toy. Thought this update would give fuller picture.

Great machine except for two setbacks........2004-10-16

I have been searching for a fax machine such as this for a decade. Small, lightweight and loaded with features. From the moment I opened the box I was in love with the UXCD600. The handset was sleek, the functions and features were awsome, and the menus were very user friendly. Setup was a breeze and I rarely had to reference the manual.

The handset also gets great range. I was about 200 feet from my home and it was still a clear and connected conversation.

I would have rated this machine a 5 star, however it has one feature that I do not particularly enjoy. When you receive a fax (unlike most fax machines) the faxes are received face down in the document tray. Many times passing by the machine I didnt notice I had a fax until I turn over the sheets of paper to read the documents. I dont know if this was an oversight on Sharp's part, but it sucks. I've had many fax machines prior and all the faxes are received with the documents side facing up in the tray.

The other setback is that the paper tray only holds 50 sheets of paper. Pretty low compared to some other units I have used.

Overall good machine. If I could do it over again, I would have still purchased this unit.
