Amazon.com Product Description

Isn't it time your home office, dorm, kitchen, or bedroom went high-def? Samsung's 23-inch LN-R238W LCD television lets you enjoy not only regular TV, but full HD images from any high- or enhanced-definition source. Its suite of state-of-the-art connections accommodate a wealth of associated equipment, such as a DTV set-top box, a progressive-scan DVD player, and even your PC. Samsung's Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) screen provides high brightness and amazingly rich contrast for lifelike images and realistic colors. A mere 3.5 inches thick without its detachable stand, the TV produces exciting, perfectly flat, images while occupying minimal space in your office, living room, bedroom, or kitchen.

Samsung's DNIe™
Samsung's revolutionary DNle™ (click for demo) technology offers digital perfection in naturally presented, crystal-clear images that uncover even the most minute detail.

Motion Optimizer
Fast-moving images are optimized to produce more natural-looking motion, thus reducing video noise or blurring.

Contrast Enhancer
Brightness and contrast levels are enhanced for deeper, richer blacks with greater detail and more natural whites.

Color Optimizer
Colors are reproduced with a more lifelike realism, whites are more accurate, and skin tones are given a more natural hue.

Detail Enhancer
DNIe analyzes video signal elements to produce sharper detail, clearer image separation, and more natural edge transition.
The set boasts a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. Its widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio matches the dimension of most movies and HDTV broadcasts, while its wide, 170-degree viewing angles (horizontal x vertical) ensures everyone in the room will enjoy a great view, even when you've mounted the unit on a wall. A built-in brightness sensor automatically adjusts the TV's luminance for the ambient brightness of a given room.

Onboard 10-bit processing produces 3.2 billion lifelike colors and aids in video signal processing for your analog sources. And with its lightning-quick 12 ms response time, astronomical 3,000:1 contrast ratio, impressive 500 cd/m2 brightness rating, and onboard 3D Y/C digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), you'll see sharp, focused images regardless of their source.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life, space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios.

The LN-R238W's DNIe (Samsung Digital Natural Image engine) offers a vision of digital perfection in natural, crystal-clear images that reveal even the most minute detail. The process involves 4 key enhancements: contrast and brightness (for deep, rich blacks and natural whites), motion (which optimizes fast-moving images to produce natural-looking motion, reducing video noise or blurring), color (for lifelike realism, accurate whites, and skin tones with natural hues), and detail (DNIe analyzes video signals to ensure sharp detail, clear image separation, and natural edge transitions).

Samsung's patented My Color Control technology lets you control specific colors without affecting the whole screen. Samsung provides 6-color control selections: white, red, pink, yellow, green, and blue. It's your picture--you decide how it looks. Samsung's PVA screen permits brighter whites than standard TFT LCDs, as well as deeper blacks and every shade in between.

The LN-R238W makes flexibility a top priority, giving you several preset picture and sound modes (and custom settings for each). The TV also permits color temperature adjustment for warm, cool, or neutral tones, along with 4 onscreen languages to choose from (English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese). Choose one of several preset sound modes (standard, music, movie, speech, and custom) for broadcast through the set's built-in speakers (10-watts-per-channel x 2).

Connections include 2 component-video inputs (480i/480p/720p/1080i), a direct-digital HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), a PC input (15-pin D-Sub with minijack analog audio), 2 composite-video inputs, 1 S-video input, 1 RF input, 5 attendant sets of stereo (left/right) RCA audio inputs, and 1 stereo RCA audio output. The set's Anynet (RS-232C) control option simplifies use with other Samsung audio/video components.

Other features include single-tuner picture-in-picture (view 1 TV channel and 1 input source simultaneously), a sleep timer, V-Chip parental control, closed captioning, and an auto volume leveler to minimize jarring differences in loudness between, say, TV programs and their commercials.

What's in the Box
TV, detachable stand (with screws), a remote control, remote batteries, an RF video cable, a user's manual, an Anynet AV manual, an AC power cord, a cover bottom, an Anynet cable, a cleaning cloth, and warranty information.

5 out of 5 stars Happy with this as a TV and computer monitor.......2006-10-15

I've owned this for about 8 months now and find it to be working very well as a TV/DVD/Camcorder/PS2 player and also as a computer monitor. The color is very good and the contrast is great. I especially like the large number of inputs so that I can leave the cables attached. I am currently using one component input (Upconverted DVD player), two composite inputs (Camcorder and PS2), and the VGA input for the computer. This TV is a great value and I have no problems recommending it to other folks.

My one year old laptop computer didn't support the native resolution (1360 x whatever) until I updated the intel drivers. Lo and behold, the resolution I needed was there. It also supports other resolutions but not as well. My model is a LN-R238W (no A) and I don't know if that makes a difference.

1 out of 5 stars Dont be fooled like I was........2006-07-08

This tv is not what it seems. I saw it at Costco for a low price, did some research on tv's, came here and saw some reviews so I bought it. Upon hooking it up to my 360 and checking all the connections (everything and anything you can think of I did it)I soon found out the picture was grotesque with bleeding color and ultra sharp angles, jagged actually and sometimes this kind of "ghost" color on some things. So I hooked up my Gamecube, same results but more bleeding. Then my dvd player...it looked like live streamed video via a dial up connection. I figured that it must be something wrong with the tv so I brought it back in exchange for a new one today and I it had the same blurry color bleeding fuzzy jaggedness as the last one.

_Bottom line_
Do NOT buy this tv. Do NOT be fooled by other reviews. You WILL regret it like I have.

_Note_
After reading the other review about not believing in other rave reviews and not believing him, I feel so stupid and angry that I wasted my time. Just wait till slim CRT Tvs are mass developed by Samsung. That is what you will want.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, but..........2006-07-07

I have been using my Samsung LCD TV for several months now. I am very pleased with the picture, even though I have not yet changed my cable service to HD. I continue to be amazed at how good regular TV images can be. I was watching a show when a commercial came on that depicted either clouds or an explosion at high-speed. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and my reaction was "WOW!" What must HD be like on this set? Eventually, I will find out.

The TV has a nice array of settings to play around with for your viewing pleasure -- but my "but..." from above is the lack of having a way of changing the aspect ratio directly from the remote. As it is, that setting is buried in the menu tree. A real pity, as regular cable has a variety of aspect ratios in use, and I am frequently changing that setting.

All in all, I am still happy with my Samsung. I would definately recommend this manufacturer.

5 out of 5 stars Great all around!.......2006-05-23

I use this monitor mainly for work, but I do take it on the road for trade shows and show DVD's on it. I also bought an upconverter HDMI fed dvd player, dvd's look very crisp on this screen.

Highly reccomended! It's a TV that happens to be VERY useful as a monitor...I don't do any gaming though so I can't comment there. I can fit two spreadsheets side by side (or any application), but of course i'm always wishing for more space. Maybe the 26" is my next buy? Speakers aren't great, but I didn't but it for the speakers.

Everyone that see's it as my monitor in my office is jelous!

4 out of 5 stars Nice Phone with exception.......2007-08-24

I love panasonic phones. This I got cause I needed one with caller ID and I do not like phones you need to us an AC adapter. Works really well. Except its hard to see the caller ID like is most phones hence the 4 stars. Only draw back is no speaker phone like my other panasonic but I knew it whan I got it. I ended up putting it in my living room even though I got it for my bedroom, butI started to miss my speaker phone I switched back. I figured if the phone rang at nite I couldn't see the caller ID anyway. So I can still see the number that called if I want to go look in the living room. It's still a good phone. WISH THEY WOULD HAVE A BACK LIT. Pansonic is always reliable with phones. ...there is a learning curve for the functions, but once you have it down nice phone. If it have a back light I would of given it a 5.

2 out of 5 stars Returned because of appearance.......2007-08-19

This review is based on the looks of the phone - not on its function. Most importantly, this phone is not "white" - it is dingy off-white, almost putty-colored, which will not blend in with other white items. Secondly when the phone is wall mounted it doesn't cover the standard wall plate and protrudes awkwardly from the wall and plate (I think another reviewer mentioned this too); the line cord is also visable and doesn't tuck behind the phone like other wall-mounted phones do. If you are looking for a corded Caller ID that doesn't need A/C power, only consider this phone if you don't care about the color and about the wall-mount system. I'm sure that the sound quality is up to Pansonic standards but it is a very unattractive phone.

4 out of 5 stars Will purchase another one soon.......2007-07-28

This is a good reasonably priced phone. I have a hearing impediment and wondered if the volume setting would be enough for me to clearly understand conversations. I was happy to find that I can use this phone without any problems. Only thing I would have liked was a backlit display window. Setting the LCD contrast to the highest position still isn't enough to make out the display without having it under a light.

5 out of 5 stars Good solid phone.......2007-07-26

I have always found Panasonic phones to be keepers. This one is no exception. Good solid audio, controls that make sense, durable, attractive. I bought a number of them on the Amazon "Warehouse Deals" program. They arrived promptly and had no flaws that I could find.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone.......2007-07-12

This has been an excellent phone with good sound quality and all the features I wanted and more. I was hunting a replacement wall phone for our kitchen at a reasonable price and this has worked out well.

      Product Description

The Samsung Neo Side-Sound 30" widescreen (16: 9 aspect ratio) HDTV is ideal for viewing DVDs and HDTV broadcasts. The TX-P3075WH meets the 2005 FCC guidelines for an integrated digital tuner. Free over the air high definition signals can be tuned with the built-in tuner. HD can also be displayed from an optional equipped HD cable or satellite set top box. Progressive scan DVD players improve the picture by eliminating interline flicker. The TX-P3075WH is among only a few mid-size TVs that can properly display progressive scan.

      Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's TX-P3075WH may be loaded with features and high technology, including a built-in high-definition broadcast tuner. It also happens to look great. Best of all, though, this amazingly affordable integrated HDTV offers high-definition image resolution (1080i/720p/480p) and a multitude of inputs and picture enhancements for a detailed, high-contrast picture. The set's widescreen dimension is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, and the set's DynaFlat screen minimizes both unwanted reflections and geometric distortions inherent in standard (non-flat) screens.

For the CRT (cathode-ray tube) screen, Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology delivers a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompanies traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.

This 800-line screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by an 8-bit, 20 MHz, 3D Y/C digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture 3-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

The TX-P3075WH performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Connections include 2 auto-sensing high-definition component-video inputs, 2 S-video inputs, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), 2 RF inputs (for an older VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letter-boxed DVDs from the supplied remote control, while screen-capture picture freezing lets you view still images, even with broadcast television. Convenient side-panel buttons let you configure the set and access its menus without having to use the remote.

The TX-P3075WH's 10 watts per channel (x 2) ensures sonic clarity and an ability to play loudly. Several sound mode offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching; choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom. BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.

      What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, and a user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars Great Picture, but Analog Audio problem.......2005-03-07

I have the TX-P3075WH, and while I think the picture quality was as good as the best I saw when I made the purchase, (This would include comparably sized units by Sony and Philips.) there are design aspects that create problems for me. These issues won't affect someone using the digital audio outputs, but anyone who is outputting analog audio to a stereo, will want to know about this.

First, there is only one analog audio output; the instruction manual says that it's volume is variable, but it is NOT. You must vary the volume using your stereo's volume control, not the TV volume control like the manual says.

Second, and this is much more important to me: There are 5 RCA jacks used in the recommended hook up for a DVD player, 3 component video and 2 analog audio. If you use this configuration, the sound output to the stereo is killed. You must listen to sound only on the built-in TV speakers.

The sound is obviously getting from the DVD player to the TV, because you can hear it on the TV. If you switch away from the DVD to over the air TV, you CAN get the sound to be played through the stereo.

Apparently, the design philosophy was that even in a situation where sound was transmitted by analog from the DVD player to the TV, if the video inputs used were the digital component ones, then the only way to get an audio signal out of the TV is by digital means. The TV has 3 kinds of digital outputs: DVI, optical, and an RCA style jack.

If I leave the audio cables where they are, but I change the video input from 3 component digital connections to one composite (the jacks are designed to be dual use), the circuitry again outputs the audio to the stereo.

This seems kind of unecessary. I don't get why they kill the analog audio output. The audio obviously gets to the TV, else you wouldn't be able to hear the sound over the TV. Why they can't continue to pass that signal to the monitor out, I don't understand. There must still be quite a few people out there who don't want to bother with surround sound.

You know, I might understand the behavior, if I were outputting digital audio from the DVD player to the TV, but I can't say it was well thought out the way it is. Frankly, even if I did connect digitally between the DVD and the TV, I think I should still be able to output analog audio to my stereo.

      Regards,
      nfsmith

4 out of 5 stars Great HDTV and great price!.......2004-11-28

I saw this TV at a dispaly along side many other hi-def sets and the picture stood out dramatically above the rest. It has a build in HDTV tuner but my rearch shows that the protocol doesn't match the US transmission of HD signals at present and so there could be a mismatch if you hope to pull signals off the air. I am using it with a digital HDTV set top box so no trouble. Also I understand it has upgradable firmware but this can only be done by a "technician". 123 pounds and most Amoires will hold it--no problem. I has a Sony Wega and it weighed over 250 and that turned out to be a huge problem.

Also... no short picture life like a Plasma and a better and clearer image than I have seen on any Plasma, LCD, or DLP. If you want a huge screen get a DLP. If you need a 30 or so (I think they make a 32") then get a direct view tube TV like this. You can't see any pixels no matter how close you get to the screen, no lines, no abberations... pure clear picture to the point where you will see the individual grains of sand on a beach... each scale on a lizard... and just how really flawed those movie stars really are!! ha. Buy this set.

4 out of 5 stars Great value for a HDTV.......2004-10-30

I purchased this TV a few months ago and I'm finally ready to review it. First off, it's my first HDTV, so I'm definitely not an expert.

The TV looks very clean when viewing. By this I mean there is only one black button at the bottom of the TV when looking from the front. Otherwise, there are some buttons and inputs on either side - but you don't have to stare at buttons during viewing. I like this simple feature a lot. The side inputs include composite (RCA) and s-video. The opposite side has volume, channel, and TV/video toggle controls.

The picture quality is great! The colors are very distinct, and the TV comes with some color presets with customization available. When hooked up with my HDTV service, there's no complaining. Watching sports in HDTV makes my TV worth every penny. I also have an Xbox and PS2 running through this TV, and when attached using the component inputs, it's spectacular.

THE BAD: I was not thrilled at the sound. For basic news and sitcoms it's okay, but for sports and movies it doesn't cut it. I purchased a Samsung "theater in a box" type system and that makes a huge difference. Also, there are only two sets of component inputs. For people with lots of electronics this may not be enough. And I'm not sure the technical details of this, but when I watch non-HDTV shows, the picture quality comes out clearer on my old TV.

Overall, I feel the TV is a very good value. At the price, it was low enough for me to get a HDTV, but the quality rivals some TVs higher in price. HDTV in general is fabulous. And at 30", it fits perfectly in my small basement!

        Product Description

With a Samsung CLP-500 series Color Laser printer you will be prepared for anything. Whether you use the parallel port, the ultra-fast standard USB 2.0, or the optional dual wired/wireless interface network card for cable-free connections, you'll be ready to go in an instant.

        Amazon.com Product Description

The CLP-500N is a high-quality color printer from Samsung. Fully networkable, the unit comes with a 10/100 Base TX Ethernet interface, as well as standard USB and parallel connections, which makes the printer available to multiple users through an existing network. An optional wireless network interface card also allows you to print over a network without the hassle of cables.

A 1,200 dpi-class print resolution results in detailed, accurate images and easy-to-read text, while print speeds of up to 21 ppm for black and 5 ppm for color deliver prints quickly. The Samsung SPGPm processor and 64 MB of standard memory (expandable up to 192 MB) are capable of handling large print jobs without a hitch, and a 35,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle provides reliability even in heavy-use environments.

The CLP-500N has an 8.5-by-14-inch maximum printable area and supports a wide range of media, including paper, envelopes, labels, and transparencies. A 250-sheet paper tray and 100-sheet multi-purpose tray come standard. Automatic duplexing allows you to create double sided prints. An optional 500-sheet input tray is also available. Four toner cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) allow you to change each color separately as it runs out.

The AC 110-127V, 50/60Hz power supply consumes about 450 watts during normal operation and about 30 watts in sleep mode. Compatible with both PC and Mac platforms (does not support printing from a Macintosh using a network connection), the CLP-500N also comes backed by a one-year limited warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Best Color Laser Printer For The Money.......2004-10-05

I had been looking around for a color laser printer that could do duplexing (printing on both side of the paper) for less than $1000.00, and that could also be plugged straight into my computer network, that way I would not have to purchase a print server. And this printer filled all those requirements, and came in below budget.

This printer is 77 pounds or so, and kinda bulky, so bring a friend and a case of beer when you purchase and set-up this printer.

As far as setting up the printer, it was fairly easy; install the drum, paper moving device and 4 toners. After that you just plug it into the USB port and you are off.

        !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are putting the printer on a network as I did, the instructions that come with the printer are not complete. The instructions tell you how to add a port to your computer for the print server, but never tell you how to get you computer to see the print server. The print server installation took me several hours and then I discovered by mistake how to get the darn thing working. If this paragraph is slightly confusing to you, you will be in the boat that I found myself in.

This printer is not the fastest printer in the world, but what do you expect for less than $600.00. Other printers that have the same features as the CLP-500n are alot more expensive. Take the laser printer (500.00) add a duplexer ($350.00), and a network card (250.00) and you can see why this is a great laser printer for the buck.

Best of all, the cost per page in color and B&W are low, alot lower than using an inkjet printer, and the CLP-500n is quiet.

You can't go wrong with the purchase of this printer.

5 out of 5 stars Good, affordable color printing.......2004-07-12

The Samsung CLP500N has served as a great tool for me to understand color laser printing and how the industry in general has not changed to accomodate newer technology or pricing pressures. The Samsung offers a new concept whereby the paper is routed by the toner cartridges, rather than the toner cartridges being moved around the paper path. This serves for a quieter and more stable machine. In addition, the built-in duplexer is the next step in the evolution of printers, the technological change makes sense. On top of that, the cost for the toner when printing with the Samsung is from 1/3 to 1/2 that of comparable Minolta and HP color lasers, according to the NSTL report (A 3rd party reviewer). All of these points make the Samsung the clear choice, were it not for the low price as well. True, the half-filled toner cartridges are disappointing, but after the absorption of the cost of full refills, you are still spending less money for printing than with the competitor's machine - still making the case for the Samsung.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not ALL good.......2004-03-26

Setup was painless (in the physical sense too, as long as you have a helper. DON'T try to lift or move this printer by yourself unless you want a hernia). Inserting the imaging kit and transfer belt was straightforward, and inserting the toner cartridges was about as simple as putting a pie in the oven. It took longer to unwrap all the pieces than it did to insert them.

Print quality is ok, and the machine definitely lives up to the quieter-than-most claims, in fact it's not much louder than my old monochrome laser printer. As far as I know, it is the ONLY color laser printer under $1,000 to offer duplex (double-sided printing) standard rather than as an expensive add-on. It also has more memory than some comparably priced models.

Power consumption is more of an issue for home office or small business owners, but worth noting. The Minoltas draw about 1,000 watts of power while operating, while the HP and the Samsung only draw about 400. Size and weight: The Samsung weighs almost as much as the Minolta. The HP weighs almost half, at 47 pounds, but is nearly as big as the Samsung.

Controls: the Minolta and Samsung both have LCD displays and menus for controlling options. The HP Laserjet 1500 has lights that only indicate power and toner levels.

The fact that the main paper tray is entirely internal is nice -- this would not seem strange, except that with many of the lower price-point color lasers (most notably, the Konica-Minoltas and the HP 1500), the paper sticks out the side or sits on a fold-out tray, which is ugly and unless you're printing high volumes, will allow dust to collect and more easily enter the printer. (The Samsung also has a foldout tray for use with legal paper, etc.)

I have two complaints: One is that the included toners ("consumables") are less than half full. Inkjet manufactures also use this evil trick with their printers in an effort to keep the printer's purchase price down... but if you have to add $300 worth of new toner within the first 6 months of moderate use, the price of this printer isn't so attractive.

My second complaint won't mean anything to Windows users, but to me it's huge enough to contemplate a class-action lawsuit: Samsung touts Macintosh compatibility on the printer's box and on their web site. All of the retailers who sell it state that it is Mac compatible. Yet, you find out ONLY after paying $6-700, lugging the beast home, unpacking it and inserting the CD-ROM to get to the user guide, that the duplexing feature is not available to the Macintosh version of the driver. False advertising, that's what that is. It's bad business to state that a product is compatible, only to hide a major incompatibility in the documentation so that you only discover it AFTER purchase. It may be that an updated version of the driver will solve this issue, and I wrote to Samsung expressing my disappointment at this "oversight." All is not lost when it comes to double-sided printing with a Mac, however: the printer's LCD menu system/control panel allows you to turn duplexing on and off manually. This is a workaround, not a solution.

The networking options are VERY expensive ($189 for 10/100 Ethernet and $250 for wireless), you'd be better off buying your own print server and attaching it.
