Product Description

Slim, light and beautiful, Samsung's LCD Flat Panel TVs combine sleek looks and high performance. The LN-R3228W HDTV-ready set lets you enjoy regular TV and display HDTV images from any High-Definition source. Dual purpose use allows for the easy connection of a PC so you can view PC and TV images simultaneously.

Amazon.com Product Description

Combining big-screen viewing, sleek looks, and high performance, Samsung's 32-inch LN-R3228W LCD television offers rich clear images. Its suite of state-of-the-art connections accommodate a wealth of associated equipment, such as a DTV set-top box, a progressive-scan DVD player, and even your PC. The TV comes with a built-in NTSC tuner for capturing traditional broadcast signals, but would require a separate tuner, digital cable box, or HD tuner from a satellite TV company to pull in high definition broadcasts. For a model with a built-in ATSC HD-tuner, see Samsung's LN-R328W. Samsung's Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) screen provides high brightness and amazingly rich contrast for lifelike images and realistic colors. A mere 3.9 inches thick without its detachable stand, the TV produces exciting, perfectly flat, images while occupying minimal space in your office, living room, bedroom, or kitchen.

Samsung's DNIe™
Samsung's revolutionary DNle™ (click for demo) technology offers digital perfection in naturally presented, crystal-clear images that uncover even the most minute detail.

Motion Optimizer
Fast-moving images are optimized to produce more natural-looking motion, thus reducing video noise or blurring.

Contrast Enhancer
Brightness and contrast levels are enhanced for deeper, richer blacks with greater detail and more natural whites.

Color Optimizer
Colors are reproduced with a more lifelike realism, whites are more accurate, and skin tones are given a more natural hue.

Detail Enhancer
DNIe analyzes video signal elements to produce sharper detail, clearer image separation, and more natural edge transition.
The set boasts a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. Its widescreen, 16:9 aspect ratio matches the dimension of most movies and HDTV broadcasts, while its wide, 170-degree viewing angles (horizontal x vertical) ensures everyone in the room will enjoy a great view, even when you've mounted the unit on a wall. A built-in brightness sensor automatically adjusts the TV's luminance for the ambient brightness of a given room.

Onboard 10-bit processing produces 3.2 billion lifelike colors and aids in video signal processing for your analog sources. And with its lightning-quick 12 ms response time, astronomical 3,000:1 contrast ratio, impressive 500 cd/m2 brightness rating, and onboard 3D Y/C digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), you'll see sharp, focused images regardless of their source.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life, space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios.

The LN-R3228W's DNIe (Samsung Digital Natural Image engine) offers a vision of digital perfection in natural, crystal-clear images that reveal even the most minute detail. The process involves 4 key enhancements: contrast and brightness (for deep, rich blacks and natural whites), motion (which optimizes fast-moving images to produce natural-looking motion, reducing video noise or blurring), color (for lifelike realism, accurate whites, and skin tones with natural hues), and detail (DNIe analyzes video signals to ensure sharp detail, clear image separation, and natural edge transitions).

Samsung's patented My Color Control technology lets you control specific colors without affecting the whole screen. Samsung provides 6-color control selections: white, red, pink, yellow, green, and blue. It's your picture--you decide how it looks. Samsung's PVA screen permits brighter whites than standard TFT LCDs, as well as deeper blacks and every shade in between.

The LN-R328W makes flexibility a top priority, giving you several preset picture and sound modes (and custom settings for each). The TV also permits color temperature adjustment for warm, cool, or neutral tones, along with 4 onscreen languages to choose from (English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese). Choose one of several preset sound modes (standard, music, movie, speech, and custom) for broadcast through the set's built-in speakers (10-watts-per-channel x 2).

Connections include 2 component-video inputs (480i/480p/720p/1080i), a direct-digital HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), a PC input (15-pin D-Sub with minijack analog audio), 2 composite-video inputs, 1 S-video input, 1 RF input, 5 attendant sets of stereo (left/right) RCA audio inputs, and 1 stereo RCA audio output. The set's Anynet (RS-232C) control option simplifies use with other Samsung audio/video components.

Other features include V-Chip parental control, closed captioning, and an auto volume leveler to minimize jarring differences in loudness between, say, TV programs and their commercials.

What's in the Box
TV, detachable stand (with screws), a remote control, remote batteries, an RF video cable, a user's manual, an Anynet AV manual, an AC power cord, a cover bottom, an Anynet cable, a cleaning cloth, and warranty information.

After four months of use, a thin green line appeared on the screen. Repair shop says whole screen has to be replaced. Now waiting for new screen to arrive from Samsung. Without tv for two weeks. Covered by warranty, but I am very disappointed to say the least.

4 out of 5 stars Good first LCD tv.......2007-07-05

Stunning pictures, easy to setup. Connects well with Cable HDTV, DVD, VCR, PC, Home Theater and Camcorder.

Only catch is that this lacks a tuner. So, we won't get free HD channels over the air.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the money.......2006-03-30

I bought the Samsung 32" because that's all my TV cabinet would hold, but also because of the excellent reviews this model has received. This is a sleek, light unit. It's been years since I've bought a TV, so this was a nice surprise.

The picture is looonng, instead of squarish, which took some getting used to. But it didn't seem to make things out of proportion or odd. We were very impressed with the clarity of picture, the great color, and the big sound.

We're not much into lots of techy stuff, so this plug & play TV was a real treat.

5 out of 5 stars Great image, great price.......2006-03-15

I purchased this LCD TV about a month ago and so far I'm very satisfied. I got an HDMI cable to connect it to my DVR/HD receiver and the sharpness of the image is truly outstanding, especially with the HD channels. The regular channels look all right, but it all depends on what you're watching. My DVD is connected to this TV with a monster cable (component video), and I'm amazed by the quality of the image, but again, it depends on what movie you're watching. I find the automatic video setting of MOVIE to be the best for DVDs (but I did change it to Cool 2, didn't like the WARM setting). For the HD channels I have it set to Dynamic, and I'm glad the TV remembers what INPUT setting to keep, I'd hate to have to change it back and forth.

I highly recommend this TV set, it's also very easy to set up, and it has multiple connection inputs. I also have an XBox connected to it, and games look really great too. Probably in a year or so, I'll get the larger model, since this one has been so great so far.

5 out of 5 stars Best Ever.......2006-03-11

I purchased a Samsung 32" HDTV based on the experience with a larger Samsung HDTV which I still have. I was amazed as the clarity and ease of operation of this unit. I would highly recommend this TV both for its performance and for its price. It was as easy as opening the package and plugging it in. Samsung is tops in HDTV.

2 out of 5 stars Sennheiser Mic failure - Bad Cable.......2007-09-24

I purchased the Sennheiser shotgun microphone last December 2006. It Just stop working during the filming in the middle of a "Once in a Life Time" event. Lost all the audio for the video I shot that day. Yep that's right BAD cable. This microphone has a major problem with the cable. I have been very careful using the microphone. The cable was never stretched or abused. I take very care of all my camera equipment. I don't know what I can do with this broken microphone now but I wouldn't buy another one.

      5 out of 5 stars phenomenal!.......2006-12-10

I'm sorry the previous reviewer had problems with his/her unit. I don't believe that experience is typical. I and my colleagues have used these in tough expeditionary situations all over the world. The directionality and quality is phenomenal. They do seem cheaply constructed - so much so that I avoided getting one in favor of much more expensive, heavier mics, until I used a friend's on a shoot and was sold. In my experience they are excellent in every way.

      2 out of 5 stars Great Audio...Too Delicate.......2006-05-15

I have had this mic for about a year now. it worked great for a while and gave really impressive audio quality. Unfortunetly this didn't last long.

I have to disagree with the reviewer above, as I treat my camera and audio equipment with care, yet this microphone failed me twice. The problem is the cable from the mic that plugs into your camcorder...it's way too sensiitive. My cable stretched and there was a short....it didn't pick up any audio and I took it to an authorized Sennheiser repair department where they replaced the item with a brand new one. Since then I used the mic once, and later discovered when capturing my footage onto pc that all the audio came out mono. I confirmed that it wasn't human error by plugging in the mic and testing the audio with my ear phones...and confirmed that auro was only coming through one channel.

I really am fed up with this mic, Sennheiser needs to use a thicker gauge cable to resolve this problem or come up with a new design. I do not recommend buying it as you will only be frustrated.

5 out of 5 stars Great value, great microphone.......2005-09-28

This is a great little shotgun mic, and I'm a big fan.

There were a couple different low-end shotgun mics available for use at my public access station, and one was the Sennheiser MKE300. After using all the others, I found that the audio from the Sennheiser was best. I bought one for myself and use it all the time. In addition to on-camera use, I've also attached it both to a handheld boompole and to a boompole on a stand to use as a boom mic, and it has performed marvelously.

Additionally, the Sennheiser is lightweight, easy to use, inexpensive and the batteries last a long time (though I've become paranoid about that and keep spares handy and remove the battery when not in use and tape it to the cap!).

There are only a couple small negatives. One is the mic light...when you flip the mic on, the "on" light flashes for a half-second and goes out. That's the only time you get any external indication that it's on. Not a big deal, but if you do purchase this item, realize that's normal and there's nothing wrong with the mic...you should always double-check your audio using headphones, anyway, and always check to make sure you switch it off before putting it away.

The only other negative is that the cable is thin and rather delicate. A colleague was (mis)using one as a handheld microphone and damaged the cable by stretching it too far...the result is occasional static on the mic because of it. If you treat your mic and cable as with the same care you give to any other delicate and sensitive electronic device, you won't have any problems.

      Product Description

Wide screen is the future, from HDTV to DVD, the picture can be displayed as intended by the director. Finding the TV that fits into your perfect room, or the right cabinet, is easy with the TXN3071WHF because it offers a small footprint with a big picture. Designed to blend in, yet stand out, the Light-Touch front panel control keys illuminate when your finger is placed over the icon bringing light to a dark room. Enjoying today's TV picture is also better, because all analog signals are converted to digital, processed, and presented in the better flicker-free progressive scan.

      Amazon.com Product Description

The 30-inch Samsung TXN3071WHF HD-ready monitor offers a small footprint with a big picture. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio for cinema-quality viewing of your favorite movies, 1080i and 480p display formats, and Samsung's DynaFlat anti-distortion, anti-glare flat picture tube.

The TXN3071WHF is loaded with Samsung's Digital Pro Picture three-stage video processing system, which produces a high-performance picture from both analog and digital sources. The Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) improves analog to digital signal processing, the Pro Chip Plus converts all analog signals to the better flicker-free progressive scan, and the three-line digital comb filter analyzes multiple lines of picture information to minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theaterlike experience at home. This set also features an Invar shadow mask (an alloy material used to attain better focus and brightness consistency), color temperature controls, and four video presets (standard, dynamic, movie, custom) that optimize the picture for brightness, sharpness, color, and tint.

It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner that receives MTS and SAP stereo broadcasts. You'll need a separate HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. Its built-in speakers have 15 watts of power apiece and it features a headphone jack on the side of the set. Two component-video inputs allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component-video outputs. It also has 4 composite A/V inputs (3 rear, 1 side), 1 A/V output, 1 S-video input (side), and 2 RF inputs (rear).

      Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

      What's in the Box
TXN3071WHF 30-inch TV, remote control, 2 AA batteries, A/V cable, and printed operating instructions.

      3 out of 5 stars OK HDTV.......2004-10-09

I purchased my samsung 30' TV becuase it was the first widescreen HD TV for under a grand. It is an okay picture, but it has dark and light regions on the screen on my set. (A defect I didn't immediately notice that seems to have become very gradually worse).

The picture is okay compaired to a standard picture, but nothing next to what is available today.

The really odd frusterating thing about this TV is they only included a single SVideo input--on the side of the TV, not the back. My toddler kept messign with it until finally one of the pins broke off inside the SVideo recepticle.

The picture is not quite as good using standard video hookups. Odd and chinsy that they just included one.

Overall, better than a standard TV. But not an outstanding picture.

*Also, the menu system is not well designed, and if you choose to watch a standard sized pictures, instead of black bars on the sides of the sceeen, a distracting grey color is used. my wife can't stand the grey bars, so we have the sceen in 'stretch' mode...all the actors look like they are carrying 30 extra pounds.

      3 out of 5 stars Good Entry...Cumbersome Menus.......2004-01-14

Recently purchased this set for my entry into Widescreen HDTV at a modest price. The picture was OK for regular broadcast cable. My Toshiba DVD player was connected to the external component inputs using a high grade cable. The DVD's were very good when the screen was set for "Movie" mode. Even VHS was good when using the direct video inputs.

The TV had a problem with 4:3 screens. First of all, it was annoying that the TV insisted on 16:9 screens whenever one changes the video input or turns the set off/on. To change this setting back to 4:3, one has to travel through an extensive menu tree. When playing the DVD with its direct input, again one has to travel through the menu system to select the "component 1" input. One cannot access it from the channel selector as one can for AV inputs like the VCR.

A flaw with the picture was that it blooms when a certain area of the picture suddenly is bright. The vertical lines in the 4:3 aspect ratio actually curve out at those moments.

Another problem is the lack of shielding in this set. I actually noticed where the wooden studs behind the sheetrock were in the wall the set was placed against. A moving of my arm around the back cover of the set hid the stud shadow in the picture.

After a week, I returned the set to trade it for a lesser priced Philips model. Its results are much better in all of the above.

4 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this TV -- keep the price in mind.......2003-12-04

My first foray into the HDTV world...the TXN3071WHF is one of the most compact and inexpensive ->widescreen- < HDTVs you can get right now, I've had mine for almost a year. The picture quality is great, and the sound quality...well it's ok but I have my audio going straight from the DVD player to a surround-sound system anyway (which I'm guessing most people who own HDTVs do).

I do not have an auto-shutoff problem, maybe I have an earlier revision of the TXN3071WHF operating system. The only curious thing I've noticed is when there are any bright red objects on the screen, they tend to 'wiggle' a bit. Which is kind of a cool effect actually.

It doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles, but for an entry-level widescreen HDTV, this thing is pretty sweet. Watching Toy Story II or Finding Nemo in 16:9 format on this set will knock your socks clear off. : )

1 out of 5 stars Forgive me Sony.......2003-11-19

The other reviewers may have defective TV's because mine doesn't shut off inexplicably; However, it does have curved side bars when viewing in 4:3 aspect ratio (this is not corrected/affected by the tilt adjustment). Also, the left side of my screen is brighter than the right. I have a call in for repair of these problems.

What cannot be repaired is the poor design, no doubt to keep the cost relatively low: 1. no rear S-Video jack (just one in the side panel). 2. not magnetically shielded (my receiver on the shelf above was turning the top of the picture green). 3. seperate buttons on remote for vid1/vid2/s-vid/ant & component1/2/vid1/2. 4. no dvi input. 5. no picture-in-picture.

I was going to get the Sony KV-30HS510 but thought I'd save some money with the Samsung; Forgive me Sony, you are clearly worth the extra $500. (which is just 13 cents a day over ten years, which is how long my last Sony lasted) Would've been well worth it considering the stress I'm going through now.

3 out of 5 stars Inexplicable Auto Shut Off Feature.......2003-10-06

I echo the remarks of the other review here regarding the confusing auto shut off feature.

Picture & sound quality are excellent (in fact we don't notice any of the sound mentioned by the other reviewer. We have remarked about how quiet the set is, in fact, at all low volumes.)

The manual refers to a feature, which can only be described as an energy saving device, which causes the TV to turn itself off if you don't touch any button on the remote or one on the set itself for 3 hours. What luncay!

This is the seventh day for this set in our house and I just pulled the box back from the curb in case I have to take it back to Best Buy.

I don't drive with my air conditioning on with the windows down, but saving energy is supposed to be the consumer's choice. If I want to run the thing at full blast while away from the set for 10 days that is up to me, not the agenda of some energy saving police. Absolutely ridiculous.

And if you try calling the customer service line you'll be in for a treat. A kid on the other end who is reading a computer version of the manual you received with the TV. When I asked for more help (on my third phone call - the first one told me to unplug the set which would reset the timer to the "factory setting" for 5 minutes, and the second which told me to do the same for an hour) I was told that a technician would call me back "this week". What?! I'll just sit here with my $1000.00 paperweight waiting for help from above, or take it back and buy something that let's me decide how much energy to use or not.

Oh, by the way, the timer (counting down to what God only knows) is loud enough to make you wonder if you have a bomb in your living room. Probably engineered by the same dope who decided the thing should shut off in three hours. Lots of shows/events last longer than three hours (like the Redskins game, golf tournament, Yankees & Twins game, Super Bowl, Gone With the Wind, etc.).

Overall, I am about fed up with this one and really reconsidering our purchase as it was a coin toss between this one and the comparable 30" Philips widescreen HD set.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars You Will Not Beat this Monitor for the Price.......2001-09-03

Not only is this an excellent price for a 19" monitor, but after several months, I am amazed at the quality of the display. It scores outstanding marks for the brightness and contrast. I have run this monitor at 1600x1200 and it looks great. The only minor issue I can find is that the control screens are a little hard to navigate through, but hey, I have a $1200 Sony as well that is even harder. If you are on a budget and want a great monitor, you won't regret this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Good quality, great price.......2001-03-24

I'd really give this monitor 4 1/2 stars - the extra half being for the outstanding price.

The other reviews are completely correct: this monitor needs serious adjustments to the factory settings, however these are easily performed for the most part. I did also have to go in and manually adjust the refresh rate.

In addition, as someone below mentioned - this screen is a little less round than the usual, but by no means "flat"

I'm using this monitor for graphic/web design and desktop publishing at an institution on a budget - the graphic display is quite good, but not stunning... although, considering the price, I'd say you're definitely getting a little more than what you paid for.

        5 out of 5 stars Looking good...........2000-12-19

        Love my new monitor,

Out of the box the settings needed adjusting but were easy enough to manipulate to fit my personal preferences.

Customer Service @ ViewSonic was a dream, I received a damaged driver disk, but I let them know and my new disk arrived as fast as fast can be.

I would recommend this monitor to anybody looking for a great value in the 19'inch category.

4 out of 5 stars normal 0.27dpi, but excellent price/quality.......2000-08-08

Although they try to confuse some consumer with the 0.23 horz. dpi hype. The montior is really a normal .027dpi. (To calculate it's sq. root of the sum of .23 sq (horzintal dpi) and .14 sq (vertical dpi): [(.23*.23)+(.14*.14)]^(1/2) = actually dpi .27 That horizontal dot pitch nonsense is the latest marketing gimmick from monitor manufacturers (and I hate it).

Another problem is the fact that the factory settings are set at 9000's something kelvin and other to extreme to show up sharper on show room floor. So adjusting is needed, with the kelvin about 6500 would have a more true look.

A side from that, this Monitor replaces the V95 with a little less feature and is actually dimmer, however the lower cost and quality is a bang for the buck monitor. The Q95 is excellent for gaming or any home user need.

        4 out of 5 stars A good budget-price 19" monitor.......2000-08-01

I've used this monitor for 4 months and am pleased with it overall. I'm not a graphics professional and only use it at home mainly to surf the web, play games, and watch DVD movies. Text (when small fonts are used in Windows display settings) is very sharp at 1024x768 resolution, but becomes hard to read at higher resolutions. Playback of DVD movies looks fine, but the full screen movie image is slightly less sharp as it was on my old 17" monitor, probably due to the bigger screen (the difference is so slight that I've since gotten used to it).

Despite being advertised as a flat-screen monitor, the screen of the Q95 isn't that flat. Out of the box, the monitor settings are less than ideal; many settings are factory-set at one extreme or the other. I had to adjust many of the settings to get the desired picture quality for all the software I use. There are plenty of adjustable settings, including those not usually found on cheap monitors: moire reduction, h- and v-focus, RGB values, etc. The monitor remembers settings for each resolution.

This is a plug-and-play monitor. It needs to be ON during Windows startup or it won't display properly. You need to use the included floppy to install the "monitor driver"; installing any other Windows-provided driver won't do.

Computer games look great on the monitor (my graphics card is 3Dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI). Due to the bigger screen size, I find the image at 800x600 looks a lot worse than what I used to see on smaller screens, and now prefer 1024x768 as the optimal resolution in games. Therefore, if your PC isn't fast enough to run games at 1024x768, having a bigger screen wouldn't be much of an advantage. (My PC is an Intel Pentium II 400Mhz with 96MB RAM, and I manage to get good frame rates at 1024x768 in Descent 3, System Shock 2, Quake 2, and Half Life.) This isn't the monitor's fault, of course. But many people think a bigger screen automatically means better picture. Your PC needs to be able to perform well at higher resolutions as well.
