Great Printer.......2006-11-05

This is a great printer for anyone who produces text or (otherwise black and white) documents and needs a personal printer that will produce extremely high quality printouts, with good speed. Toner is affordable and readily avalable. This makes this a good printer for me, who must print out and review long drafts of manuscript/draft form text. I recommend it highly. It is much more reliable than any inkjet I have ever owned. Really, if you want to print photos, get a photo printer. But if you need to reliably and efficiently print high quality text, get a monochrome laser printer. This one might be a good one for you.

The set's standard 4:3 aspect ratio matches the dimensions of your favorite TV shows and most sports broadcasts, while its DynaFlat screen minimizes both unwanted reflections and geometric distortions inherent in standard (non-flat) screens.

For the CRT (cathode-ray tube) screen, Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology delivers a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompanies traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.

This 800-line screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by an 8-bit, 20 MHz, 3D Y/C digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.

Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture 3-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive-scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

The TX-P2775H performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown reversal digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Connections include 2 autosensing high-definition component-video inputs, 2 S-video inputs, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), 2 RF inputs (for an older VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

I'm happy with everything about this TV except it has a loug buzzing noise that comes from the speakers all the time. It's not something that's soft, as it's quite annoying sitting 13' away from the TV. I've tried different stations, raising and lowering the volume and different component inputs, but it always buzzes. I called Samsung to see if something can be done, and they said it was normal for this TV to buzz. I guess this one is going back. Sure glad I didn't buy it online. . .

A good bridge .......2005-08-30

Bought this after the worst product panasonic ever put out died. Great HD pic handles SD better than LCD or PLASMA. Dunno how the HD tuner is because i cant get more than one channel to work at a time (Area im in not TV) Screw it i have comcast HD 14 channels. Only 2 composite imputs but the DVI free's up the other component to use for games. Its heavy too but hell to get a 26" plasma or lcd you would spend twice as much and not get as good a picture (tv makes a 25"HD widescreen)

I think I can tie all these reviews together. CJ in Iowa, I am so sorry to hear that your TX-P2775H was DOA. I was a little luckier than you, I got 3 weeks of use out of mine before it started turning itself off randomly and finally going completely dead. I'm betting we had the same problem, the website of the TV repair company I went to mentions defective power regulators as the most likely cause. Fortunately it was still under warranty, and I'm happy to report that the warranty covers repair plus the pick up and delivery of this 104 lb unit. So, credit to Samsung there, however, a good warranty is not as good as building a reliable TV in the first place. I'm a former Samsung buyer because I don't believe for a second that they didn't know about this problem. It's not a scientific sample, but 2 out of 6 Amazon reviewers have the same failure? And I wonder about the 5 star reviews here, how are those TVs holding up a year later?

I mentioned zero quality control. Strangely enough, the TX-P2775H that started going dead after 3 weeks was the 3rd one I brought home from the store. The first one had a heavily scratched cabinet, apparently some heavy abuse in the factory before being wrapped and sealed for shipment. A thousand thanks to my local CC retailer, who took it back and gave me another one. And then, yes, the 2nd one also had a scratched cabinet. Not as bad as the first, but I was in no mood at that point. I took the 2nd one back and a thousand thanks again to the retailer, they gave me Samsung #3 with no questions. #3 is scratched as well, but not too badly. I think it's the best I'll be able to do, although you might hope that after paying this kind of money your brand new HDTV would be in unscratched, mint condition. Obviously zero quality control at Samsung, there's no way any of these 3 units should have passed final inspection and been boxed up for a trip across the ocean.

With that said, I can also confirm that the 5 star reviews here are not wrong. Other than the lack of quality control and the unreliable components, this is a great TV. If you go to your local retailer, the Samsung TX-P2775H may be next to a Sony unit with an equally good picture, but look more closely: that Sony unit is just an HD monitor and you have to buy an HD tuner to go along with it. I mentioned great design, by that I mean not just the great picture but the intuitive, easy to use menu and the ton of inputs in the back.

There's a sad ending to this review: although it was fixed a month ago, my TX-P2775H is already starting again to go dead randomly, just as it did about 2 weeks before going completely dead. Oh well, it's a 1 year warranty.....

Dead On Arrival.......2005-04-23

We purchased this on the 10th of the month, received it on the 20th, plugged it in after the delivery person left (big mistake) and no picture! Amazon considers this to be a special product and after it is delivered - Amazon won't accept it as a return. They ask that you work the "In home warranty process" with the Manufacturer. In pursuing it with Samsung, they initially told us the unit was probably a "Refurb" (Amazon said this wasn't correct). However, it is now the 23rd, and we're still awaiting a appointment date with a Servicer. So far, this is on the bad end of the spectrum of what can happen when you buy a big ticket electronics item on line. If I was to do this again, I would have plugged it in before the delivery person left and refused shipment. Other buyers beware.

In the 12-hour mode, the display says "PM" when appropriate, but does not ever say "AM". The display lights up with a bright blue light when the large snooze/light button is depressed. The snooze/light button is a generous 2 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches in size, so you won't have to fumble for it in the dark.

This clock has a couple of deficiencies, however. The controls are small and fiddly: There are 2 sliders on the side of the clock, which are used to set the times and functions. The top slider selects Time Set, Alarm Set, 2nd Time Set, Calendar Set, or Lock. You use 3 buttons on the front of the clock, to the right of the display, to change the numbers for the clocks or the alarm. The alarm mode is set with the bottom slider: Snooze, Alarm On, or Alarm Off. The sliders can be operated with a thumb or a fingernail, but it takes good vision to see which setting is which. Pushing the buttons on the front of the clock to set the time or alarm requires a finger nail or small instrument. I'm not usually bothered by the diminutive knobs and buttons, but I think they would frustrate people with big fingers or eyeglasses that are not quite strong enough. The snooze button provides a 5-minute snooze, but will only allow you to snooze 2 times before the alarm turns itself off. So the alarm goes off no more than 3 times, allowing 10 minutes of additional sleep, which is not enough for my taste.

The Sharper Image Dual-Time Alarm Clock (SR362) takes one AAA battery (not included) and measures almost 3 inches square and 3/4 inch deep when closed. It is silver and black. The alarm is nice and loud. It has a 90-day warranty and comes with a black faux leather pouch for protection. In comparing the two in a Sharper Image store, I found the quality of the materials in this clock superior to the more expensive Sharper Image Big Screen Dual-Time Travel and Desktop Alarm Clock (SI615), which has design flaws of its own and requires 7 batteries.
