Great solution for an older printer.......2007-08-23

At first, I was looking at a docking station for my new laptop with Vista but they were very expensive and the reviews were mediocre. My HP Laserjet 1100 was the only peripheral that used a 36p parallel port to a 25p serial port on the computer so the cheapest and easiest solution was to get an adapter that goes from a 36p male parallel to a USB port. The reviews I was ready about other adapters states that they did not work with Vista so I was on a quest to find an adapter that worked with Vista. The maker of this adapter stated that it would work with Vista so I bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that the HP serial port to the printer is a 36p but the size of the port was WAY smaller than the one on the new adapter. To solve this problem, I had to buy converter that was a 25p female serial on one side and a 36p female parallel on the other. Even after this manipulation, it still worked great. It's a good product.

Used this to connect my Garmin eTrex with serial adapter to my USB only laptop. Installed with no difficulty and works as it should.

Connected 4 of these to the same computer to run DNS. Till now works 24/7 for a couple of monts without any problem neither resouce conflicts (other SYBA hardware gave me tons of problems). Didn't have even to install the driver. WinXP recognized it as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM3)" to (COM6). Recomended product.

Works great but...(read on).......2007-01-04

To my surprise, I upgraded to a HP DV2000, and noticed most new laptops dont have serial ports. Was gonna buy a USB-serial adapter but was suggested not to. Only gripe i have about it is: 1- pricey 2-the slot on my computer is larger than the card, so, the card plugs in, but not firmly. Fear of damage to the card or the computer slot exists, so when u use this card, must be careful not to pull on wires. It should've come with a plastic spacer of some sort so the card will sit firmly in the slot (the slot on my computer houses the wireless remote). It would've earned 5 stars. Follow-up...ended up buyin Keyspan USB serial adapter and it worked fine. Kept it anyway.

BE VERY CAREFUL before buying.......2005-12-15

Be careful. I've spent 4 hours in 'live chat' with their technical support to make this thing work. And it won't do what I need it to do. First, be careful -- it must be plugged directly into the wall socket(it won't work plugged into a power strip) and it needs a main USB port in the back of your computer unit (front, side, or alternate USB ports won't work -- less power to alternate USB ports they said). And the you have to download a 'PRO' version of the software hidden on their website in order to back-up your entire computer system. Be careful of folders within folders. Selecting individual files is very cumbersome and doesn't always capture the folders within folders. And, if you need to back-up another computer across a network -- this won't do it. According to Iomega tech support, Iomega doesn't have any product that backs up another computer over a network. Be careful. This is accurate -- but other printed things by Iomega don't pan out.

It sits there quietly and does exactly what it's advertised to do and looks good to boot. What else could I ask for?

I have two iomega drives, one for more than a year and this one for a month or two now.
They both work fine.
The noise level is acceptable, since the drives are quiter than my laptop's fan itself.
However, be aware of what you are buying:
It is a DESKTOP external hard drive, so do not complain that it is too big to carry around, moreover including the power cord.
And more important: you are probably buying it for a backup purpose, so use it as such and do not keep your files ONLY in it.
