The C5-A2 is a stand-alone device that transforms a pair of audio channels to and from CAT-5 twisted pair cabling. It has two sets of simple connections. The first is a pair of RCA connectors for the line level audio signals. The second is a shielded CAT-5 connector for the CAT-5 twisted pair connection. The circuitry is passive so there is no need for a power supply.The C5-A2 allows a line-level audio device such as a subwoofer or CD player to be located an extended distance from the system it is to be connected to. Doing so with conventional audio cabling is both expensive and prone to signal degradation. By using a pair of these devices and a run of CAT-5 the problem can be solved inexpensively and without signal loss and the introduction of noise. In addition, in today's retrofit market an installer cannot always successfully run a wire from point A to point B. There exists however an abundance of twisted pair cabling in many homes. By using a pair of these devices with an existing wire an installer may be able to complete a job that he otherwise could not.

Simplify your home answering system with the Panasonic KXTC1890 cordless phone. It combines everything you need, including two-line operation, digital answering system, and caller ID with call waiting, all in one high-quality, beautifully designed unit.

We found the KXTC1890 appealing because of its dual-keypad design. Most functions are accessed from either the lighted keypad on the handset or from a large intuitive keypad on the base. We were able to program basic features without reading the owner's manual. For more complex functions, the detailed manual was very helpful. A quick guide is also included.

For two-line operation, the telephone accepts either a single RJ-14 connection or two RJ-11 connections (both are standard telephone jacks). You can then set up the phone by using the program button and following the LCD display. Lighted buttons on both the handset and base let you know which line is in use. The handset and base can be used at the same time on separate lines; the call on the base line is conducted through the speakerphone. Calls can also be combined from both lines for three-way conferencing.

The KXTC1890B can save up to 10 numbers in memory. Programming the numbers is straightforward; however, the LCD and many of the program buttons are on opposite sides of the handset. We found it awkward having to flip the handset over several times to perform one function.

The LCD on the handset displays the number of calls you have received. To access calls, press the search button located just below the LCD. The LCD also displays the caller's number and name. To return a call, simply press the talk button. The KXTC1890B can store up to 50 caller-ID calls, along with the time and date each call was received and the number of times each caller called.

Voice mail for both lines is conveniently accessed through either the handset or the base. A playback button on the handset provides easy access to most voice mail functions, including new messages, repeat, skip, and on/off. The base provides erase and record buttons and also displays the number of calls received.

In our tests, the KXTC1890 provided excellent sound clarity and long range. The signal remained strong approximately 200 feet from the base. It continued to carry the signal up to 1000 feet with some voice breakup. If interference is present, you can press the channel button for a clearer signal. We detected only occasional background static throughout testing, despite physical barriers such as walls and other electronic equipment. Overall, we found the unit well designed and easy to use, and it performed well over a long range. --Emily Bakko

I have had such a horrible experience with this Panasonic phone I REFUSE to buy another telephone made by Panasonic. "Dropout King" is right, if you want your conversations interupted with faulty equipment use this phone. The buttons on the handset fail with use. Calling long distance is hard when the "1" button does not work. The answering machine is difficult, if not impossible to use with no backlight to the number of messages and having to reverse your way thru older messages. Finally, the base has given up charging the handset, so our phone is dead...

Disappointing.......2002-04-21

The features are okay, but it suffers from two main performance problems:

--Volume is too low on the caller's side, and there's no way to improve it. They simply have a hard time hearing you.

--Range is poor, compared to other 900mhz digitals, and it suffers from dropout, up to a second or two, even when close to the basestation.

I've had in the past excelent experience with my Panasonic cordless phones, but not this time. I payed the price of this...phone because of the quality I expected, but PLEASE, dont make the same mistake, this phone has very poor quality.

For a few weeks everything was ok, now, the second line has no audio, line one, can suddenly hang up, and the dialing pad dials several numbers at the same touch...

I have had this phone for 1 1/2 years. I have to replace it. It has always been a disappointment to me. The dial pad on the phone does not work now. Many of the numbers stick when dialing. I can't stand it anymore and am throwing it in the trash. No more Panasonic for me. Don't buy it.

disappointing for the money.......2001-11-16

I got this phone a year and a half ago and have never been satisfied for what it costs. At first it just bothered me that you could hang up on someone if you held the phone by the caller ID. Then a few monts ago the #4 would not work. The only way for it to work was to press very hard and then it would come out twice. Now most of the keypad does not work right but the most annoying one is the talk button. I have to use a pen and push as hard as I can just to turn it off. Do not buy this phone it is a waste and customer service did not care either.
