Setting up the phone was easy, and the battery charged completely in seven hours. The battery is rated for eight hours of talk time and will remain charged for up to 14 days on standby. A lighted keypad features a large navigator button, redial, direct dial, and channel buttons.

The navigator button's functions are not entirely intuitive. We had to refer to the owner's manual to store a number because there is no memory button. However, the manual was helpful and the steps were easy to remember once we performed them. To store a number in memory, we pressed program, entered the phone number, pressed auto, and assigned it a station number between zero and nine. A beep indicated that the phone number had been stored.

The program and auto functions are the right and left sides of the navigator button, while the top and bottom control the ringer volume. While the functions of the navigator button do not necessarily relate to each other, and could just as easily have been separate buttons, the navigator button's multifunction design does minimize clutter on the handset.

Other functions are easier to use because they do not require the navigator button. If you have one number you dial frequently, you can assign it to the direct button. The direct button takes only three steps to program and one step to dial. Redial and flash are also accessed with the touch of a button. Handset Locator is a large button conveniently located on the base.

Although we had reservations about the phone's button design, we were most impressed with the long range and sound clarity of the KXTG2500. With its dual-antenna system, one for transmitting and one for receiving, our conversations were virtually static-free. When background noise was present, we simply pressed the channel button for a clearer connection. We took the handset outside, approximately 1,000 feet from the base, before detecting any interference. It performed just as well inside and behind walls, up stairs, and near electronic equipment. As with the other reviewers I have similiar "out of range" issues. The only way to remedy it is to unplug the phone. Now certain buttons on the phone no longer work with a simple touch, to dial you have to pound on the button.
I am looking for a new cordless for Christmas and it will never be a Panasonic again!

The only reason to get this phone is if you need a waterproof phone

For example you make phone calls while taking a bath, or washing dishes.

You must keep this phone off the charger and only charge it when the battery runs down.

And you must periodically clean the contacts or it will not charge.

To some extent this is true for all portable phones, but this one is super sensitive and if you do not follow the above advice the phone will not hold a charge--and will not work.

I would not buy this phone unless you needed one that was waterproof--but if you did this will work OK

Great out of the gate but just doesn't seem to finish.......2002-07-31

I have the 2550S and it was great for well over a year and then it started going downhill...

1 - The apparently famous "Out of range" notification. Always amazing whether one is right next to the base or directly above it on the next floor. Especially fun when the phone would ring, you press talk and it decides it can't reach the base suddenly???

2 - What we've determined is the 10 minute static barrier. If we use the phone for a single conversation which goes above 10 minutes after not using it all day, it turns a horrid static state which is really hard to deal with. The person on the other end is all but inaudible.

3 - Thinking it might be the battery (10 minutes of consecutive or nearly consecutive talk causes a problem? might be the battery) we bought a new one for ~[$$$] which did _nothing_ to resolve the problem.

So, I'm stuck with a dud phone which I will be replacing here soon enough. Based on what I've read and my own experience, I won't be buying another panasonic even though the features themselves were quite nice.

Caveat emptor.

I bought this item 2 years ago and used it to make Ghost image backups of my drive. As luck would have it I finally needed to recover my main partition. My backup was on 10 of these DVD+RWs and worked fine. I also use the "verify data" options and never see errors with these.

P.S. Please include your DVD model number when reviewing stuff like this. Sometimes problems depend on your machine.

If you are playing back your recorded DVD's on very forgiving equipment then you may not notice the errors, but should you burn using Nero with the "verify disc writes" feature checked, you may see a string of errors that takes hours to log. Or they would take hours if you could sit there for it, which I didn't.

I don't know if I have just got (un)lucky, but after using two different, new burners (Lite-On 1693S and N.E.C. 3540A), burning at various speeds with the source data cached on fast IDE drives, using both NERO and DVD Shrink to burn both ISO and VOB files, I have produced about 15 to 20 useless coasters with Ridata DVD+R 16x media.

There have been some DVD's that have actually played all the way through, but enough haven't so that I have lost confidence in this product to keep anything valuable.

Having tried everything else, we've finally decided it's the discs and not the burners or software.

If the success of the DVD depended on this Ridata media, we'd still be using VHS tapes.

These work great for recording your favorite TV shows, you can watch them later, and then record over them so you do not have to buy 1000 DVDs. Word of warning though, check to make sure your DVD players can read the RW format, our household has 3 DVD players and only 2 of them can play the DVD+RWs.

I have burned 2 DVD's till now to store pictures and songs. I had no issues at all. Worked neatly. I am able to retrieve the data without any problems. The burning time was also not too long.
There is a nice plastic case to store the DVD's. It would be have been great if we got seperate covers for each DVD. But that is asking for too much!
I received the mail-in rebate too.
Its a good buy.

Do not buy this media, Waste of money, Bought it to use with my Toshiba XS32 recorder and they do not work so I was like fine I can use them on my PC take them to my PC and mind you I have 2 different PC DVD recorders a Sony and a Toshiba and they both wont read or write to them. These things are junk, Firmware is upgraded to latest on both drives, That is not the issue. I would give 0 stars if I could, A complete waste of money.

However they failed both during DVD-Video (16%) or Data burn (100%), I have the latest firmware on my writers and the BTC's website says that DVD1008 supports RITEKW04,
I had been using RiData DVD+RW discs and was very happy with their performace.
I am not sure if these failures are due to High speed incompatibility or just bad discs, if I am not able to fix it in 1-2 days I am going to return these discs, not sure what amazon's return policy is for opened media.

I've tried using these discs in several different DVD recorders and DVD burners. Same result every time, the product is a waste of good money.

Go through reviews and you'll see one word comes again and again "CLICK". This phone "CLICK"s very loud and annoying all through conversation. I subconciosly refrain from using this phone in a house just becouse of that. Make sure that if you buy it you have an option to return it back becouse most likely you'd need it.
Also as it was noted in other posts. Battery life if 1-2 days at most. I have my old AT&T cordless phone having 6-7 days.
So basically I don't see why anybody will consider this phone in a first place.

This is certainly the best cordless phone I ever used. The basic functions are very simple to understand (I almost never had to use the manual yet). The battery works excellent, we had no problems with it at all. The answering machine is great. Superior sound quality. No problems with interference in NYC. Extremely reliable phone. There is one little drawback: If you have misplaced the phone and want to use the alarm function you have to look for the button on the bottom of the base station.

Continually 'clicks' during conversations.
Menu laid out poorly (possibly by *untrained* chimp).
Despite wording on box will NOT work with other Siemans phones (ok, it works except for any 'advanced' features. Advanced features must be everything except ring).
Charger contacts don't work well resulting in phone beeping while resting on charger.
Tech support and customer support all but non-existant.
Would throw it in trash except for my >$200 investment in a pair.
Still kicking myself for buying these.

This phone will drive you crazy........2003-12-30

We have two of these phones -- bought them at Best Buy last year. I thought that these phones looked good and felt nice in the hand. THESE PHONES WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY. (1) The phones constantly "beep" on and off for no apparent reason. (2) The battery life is terrible. I could go on and on in detail but I will leave it nice and short. I recommend that you look elsewhere.

Severely disappointed.......2003-10-18

I was quite excited to finally see this phone on sale, so I bought it. I should have read the reviews first. The sound quality is horrible. It constantly clicks like someone is picking up another phone in the house. After 6 months, a majority of the buttons dont work. I have to push on them numerous times. The only good thing I can say is that the phone looks good and is comfortable in my hand.
