What is DVD-R/RW?
DVD-R (which is pronounced "dash R" not "minus R") uses organic dye technology, like CD-R, and is compatible with most DVD drives and players. DVD-RW (formerly DVD-R/W and also briefly known as DVD-ER) is a phase-change erasable format. Developed by Pioneer based on DVD-R, using similar track pitch, mark length, and rotation control, DVD-RW is playable in many DVD drives and players. Capacity is 4.7 billion bytes. Works FLAWLESSLY with Apple G5 dual 2.0 Rev B.......2004-10-13

I've gone through 125 of these DVD-Rs by Ridata, and so far the burn success rate has been 100%. Not only did the burned discs play in my Apple computer, it also worked on two other DVD players (a Sony 5 disc DVD player and a Toshiba SD1200). I burned my discs using Apple's iDVD software which came bundled with the computer; While burning, I even used the computer to surf the web, and noticed the DVDs were burned perfectly without any problems <although that's probably a testament to the awesome G5 rather than the Ridatas =)>. I'd highly recommend them! (I just placed an order for another 50!)

ridata is just plain poor quality media.......2004-10-10

I ordered ridata 4x dvd-rw and ridata 4x dvd-r, and im dead serious when I say both batches of discs were corrupt. However crazy that is, the quality of ridata labeled media is the same as the garbage you bring outside. I have a pioneer a05 and the discs are not even recognized by any software in the drive. When I burned the 4x dvd-r discs, I had like 4 out of 5 coasters. Ritek used to make quality and affordable media, but this ridata labeled media is just plain junk, avoid it. Look at every else reviews, its no secret that you shouldnt buy this stuff.

I've used Memorex, Fuji, Maxell,TDK and this Ridata brands hangs with the best out there, I've used over 25 dvd-r disks and so far no duds or coasters, great media at a unbeatable price at Amazon!

What is DVD+R/RW?
DVD+R/RW is an erasable format based on CD-RW technology that became available in late 2001. Was good, but not anymore.......2005-03-01

I used to buy 25-packs of these all the time with only a problem with a few of them. Just after Christmas I bought a 50-pack of them. After the first dozen, the rest wouldn't work at all in my Akai stand-alone burner, or the plextor burner on my computer. Other brands are working fine in them so it's NOT the machines or firmware. I bought a 25-pack last month because I didn't have problems with them before. About 2 out of every 3 of the 25-pack have problems with dropouts, skips, freezes, locking up the players, or didn't record at all. They definitely downgraded their quality, or are shipping out more of that "bad batch".

I just bought a new computer with a dvd burner built in so i wanted to try it out. I was advised to buy these first and they worked great. I've bought 2-50 packs and have only messed up about 1 disc from each pack. So that seems pretty good to me. Maybe the other people who gave them bad reviews just had crappy dvd burners. The quality is great and the errors are minimal, and you cant beat the price anywhere.

Not work for Philips SDVD6004.......2004-11-16

My DVD drive is Philips SDVD6004(firmware 1.06). The drive is installed in Dell Dimension 4600C and some inspiron notebooks. I failed in buring first 6 discs. There's no singal example of success bruing. So I give up. But other bands (HP, Khypermedia, Verbatim) work perfect for my case. Maybe only crap discs from CMC match the crap Philips burnner.

Cheap media? BenQ not a good drive? LOL.......2004-10-19

Some of you people crack me up. I have a BenQ 8X drive that I have burned over 100 disks on so far with no problems. I use Ritek (RIDATA), Memorex (Mostly CMC a few Ricoh) and Maxell (Ricoh is all I have seen from Maxell) disks.

Before the BenQ, I had a Cyberdrive 8X that I recorded well over 400 disks on using the same brands as stated above. Both of these drives are branded and sold by KHypermedia.

You don't have to spend a lot of money for a decent drive folks. Most of what people are paying for is the name. You would be surprised to know who makes many of the "top" name drives.

The same holds true for DVD media. The majority of media is made by only a few companies. The reason that you can't use a certain disk is not because the media is bad, but because your firmware is not up to date. Some companies update their firmware faster than others so check the website and see if there is an update for your drive. Don't blame the media when it is your burner that is at fault.

I use DVD Shrink to rip and Nero 6.3.1.25 to burn. This version of Nero supposedly sets the code on your movies to ROM. So far, it has set every one I have burned with this version to ROM.

I have owned four drives so far and have not had any problems out of any of them. The first drive I had was an NEC. I sold this one after a few hundred burns and bought a Cyberdrive. I sold this one also after a few hundred burns. I now own a KHypermedia (BenQ) 8X in one computer and a MicroAdvantage (TopG - I think) 8X in another computer. They both work great because I keep them updated. when something new comes along, I sell the old drive cheap and get a new one.

So, Instead of badmouthing the media because it will not work in your drive, find a way to make it work if possible. Keep your firmware updated and ask the maker of your drive for a list of acceptable media that your drive can use. This will save you some trouble as you will know what will and what will not work with your particular drive. If you still decide to purchase media, even though it is not recommended by the manufacturer of your drive for the firmware version you have, you wil be taking a chance that it will plain out give you trouble. Worth every penny.......2007-03-22

When you're buying cable for digital connections (DVI-D, HDMI, TOSLink) you can go cheap and get away with it. When you need a clean signal from an analog source (composite, component, RCA audio) you can't do better than monster cable.
480P DVD video and 720P from my Xbox 360 look fantastic even with a 92" picture from my DLP projector.
I was using heavy gauge but relatively inexpensive component cable to hook up at first (while waiting for this one to arrive in the mail) and it looked horrible. I was actually worried there was something wrong with my brand new projector, because the picture was so bad, and the cable I was using looked pretty decent.
As soon as I connected the monster cable, I saw first hand how much of a difference quality makes.
I have monster cable connections for every analog signal in my setup, and I couldn't be happier with it.
Spend the money; you won't regret it.

I have a set of three of these phones (my mistake to buy all at once). They have had problems from Day One. I have had to return them to Siemens -- only to get the same problems back. None of their recommended fixes have worked. And worst of all, customer support has been atrocious. I recommend not buying these. I bought two other 2.4 Ghz phones from AT&T, and they have been flawless in the exact same environment.

Good overall, but one key problem........2004-06-03

I just discovered in another review here that there truly is no mute function. I had been searching the Web for advice on how to do just that. With small children and regular concalls, I need to be able to mute. Ack.

I really wanted to like this phone, but here are the problems:

1. When a headset is plugged in, the volume (for listening) is too low and can't be turned up sufficiently. (This is not a problem with the headset.)

2. No mute button. Terrible if you use the phone for work/meetings.

3. Limited speed dial. I like to program access codes (like mailbox number and password), since I use my phone for work purposes. I can't do that with this phone.

4. The buttons are not very responsive and there is a delay until you hear a "beep" indicating that you pressed a button. Sounds petty but the result is that, when dialing, you often miss a number but don't realize it until it's too late. Then you have to start over.

5. The size and shape of the phone are not conducive to holding it between your head/ear and shoulder.

clear voice quality and nice features.......2004-01-28

I bought the 4000 as a remote to my 4210. It was a mistake. The 42XX series will automatically download your adddress book. The 4000 does not have this feature. You will have to input you phone numbers again. The 4200 adds voice dialing and called ID. For a basic remote in a Siemens phone network, this phone will be fine. I use mine with a Vonage VOIP (cable) phone system and it works great. It broke my heart to say goodbye to Verizon. NOT!

One of the most stylish 2.4 Ghz phone out there!.......2004-01-25

I have been using this phone for almost 2 years now and the only problem I have encountered is with the base charger refusing to charge if the phone is not placed exactly upright. Otherwise, reception is always crystal clear, range is incredibly FAR! I live in second floor, I took my phone to the basement through elevator and the only static I heard is after I got into my car! Every time my friend came to my place the look with awe at this stylish phone. I would recommend this to everyone who wants a quality phone that doesn't have those geeky style in it.

I bought my Thermaltake Aquarius II (from Amazon.com) with high hopes and aspirations. I dreamed that the Aquarius II would hold up to everything Thermaltake has claimed, and that "water cooling" would be as effective as I've read it could be.

Unfortunately, upon arrival and installation of my Aq II, my dreams were not justified. My CPU temperature did not magically drop a few degrees, nor was it any more effecient.

It stayed the same (95 degrees Farenheit on a 2.53 P4 Northwood Edition - Not impressive) and was a bit noisy. I called Thermaltake to complain, and was greeted by a very knowledgable friendly guy who happily sent me another pump, (which I got in two days), but once again, I was dissapointed. Now, not only is my CPU at 100 degrees, but the RPM of the pump is 700-800 RPMs lower than it should be!

I called again, and reached the same friendly guy, and he recommended that I use a 1:1 antifreeze to water ratio in place of the stuff they sent with the Aq II. So, I went to the local AutoZone and picked up a can of it---put it in, but to no avail.

So, now Tt (thermaltake) is sending me yet another pump in hopes that this will solve my problem.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but two bad pumps in a row? I suppose I'll wait for my next one, and report back to you all. If you're looking for something that cools as good as your current CPU fan and is quite a bit quieter, buy this. It's a cheap alternative to the $300+ liquid cooling systems out there, and gets the job done.

If you're looking into overclocking your CPU a few notches, spend the extra money and get something more effecient. While this setup is supposed to get your CPU to 60+ degrees Farenheit, I have not yet been so lucky, and don't think I will be.

Quirky Bugs.......2007-02-26

This is a buggy router.

(1) If the WAN interface is set to static IP address, occasionally, the internet connectivity fails. The only solution is to change the static IP address and then change it back.

(2) Several different network cards (Atheros chip set) seem to be unable to connect to this device.

(3) Connecting is spotty at best.

I purchased this wireless router for the same reason anyone else would purchase a 802.11N device. To extend my range, to fill in the dead spots and to have wireless.

Well after setting up the router I was pleased with the performance but the worksmanship has something to be desired.

I do quite enjoy Netgear products and the support they provide, so don't get my wrong.

The antennas are what left a bad taste in my mouth. I had a antenna disconnect from the metal case.

The antennas have a plastic base that clips into the router that are easy to pop out.

If you're not careful and you some how do what I did you can disconnect the antenna from the case and break the coax that connects the antenna to the circut board.

With this I was displeased. But don't let this sway you from Netgear products.

I am a computer tech that deals in Netgear products for a local small town business and this has been the only device with a metal case that has been put together so poorly that I have run accross.

I currently own a FVS318 V3 and a WG102NA with a 9db omni directional antenna and with it I can go two houses down and still get on my network.

My recommendation: Wait tell 802.11N has become a standard for at least 6 months then buy something that you can attach a external antenna to like the 9db antenna and you'll get awesome performance and go with the prosafe series. They are rugged and give you more options then you'll need for a small business or home user and the protection you need.

Pre-N Netgear Router - Performed as promised.......2005-10-04

I purchased a Netgear WGM124NA Pre-N Wireless Router and PC Card due to previously poor signal strength on my home network. The problem is now solved! Where I had poor signal strength, I now have good to very good signal strength. The Netgear WGM511NA Pre-N Wireless PC Card installed perfectly for me. I could not be happier with my new wireless network.
