What is DVD-R/RW?

Piece of crap - Don't waste your money.......2005-12-23

I bought more than 1000 DVD-Rs (Ritek G04 e G05). Only when I begginned to lost my data and study to understand what happens I see that this midia is crap. Burns perfectly ant the first time. As time goes lost the data. I try to contact Ridata manufacturer and they don't answer my e-mails. Buying this DVD-R is like buying trash. Try other manufacturers.

I have been using Ridata DVD Media for some time now and I recommend this to every one, whose DVD burner supports Ridata/Ritek DVD media. I have used DVD+R/RW and DVD-R formats and they all worked flawlessly on my PC and DVD player. I must say that I have become big fan of Ridata media.

4X-8X.......2004-08-30

I've written 50 of these discs (2 X 25pk) with Sony and LiteOn drives with 0 problems at 4X. Recently, I got a Pioneer DVR-108 and with the hacked firmware, I am able to write @ 8X without any problems to the 5 RitekG04 (free Newegg.com brand) which are the same discs as the Ridata 4X DVD-R (RitekG04). With these discs and DVR-108, I have no need to buy 8X and maybe even 12X discs anymore.

Stay away from these if you have a slot loading dvddrive like on an iMac. They have very unsmooth edges, and get stuck in the slot loading drives. I currently have one stuck in there, and it has pretty much disabled my iMac because all it tries to do is eject the disk whenever its turned on.

Great Cost Gets Your Attention BUT...Product didn't Work.......2005-05-11

I bought the 50 pack definitely for the price and the specs seemed to be ok. I got them and had them on reserve for when my current supply of a different brand runs out. Finally I went to use a disk out of the 50 pack in this years model of the Panaonic Home DVD Recorder. Not one single disk out of the top five was detected by the recorder. Now I am stuck with useless disks since my return date is passed with Amazon and I can't get a refund. Now I am glad I paid so little for them.

Excellent product........2005-04-25

Great discs. I always set Nero to check for errors after burning, and do post-burn CRC checks. I've burnt about 25 so far most at 4x and had zero errors.
I read some reviews where people somehow try to justify faulty media but I just don't understand it. If the pack says 50 discs I expect to make 50 copies. Well, maybe one or two coasters, but not 10, or 15! I would rather pay a few $$ extra as long as I know that I'm getting reliable discs. Otherwise what's the point of even bothering to make DVDs if you don't care about the data that's written on them right? I bought Velocity DVD-Rs before and had to return them because they were completely unusable junk. Paid a few more bux for these 4x Ridata and so far happy I did!

How to get good media..........2005-02-17

Dunno about the RiData's sold here on Amazon, but a certain major online retailer with name beginning with "N" and last letters "gg" sells this exact same media (RiData "always right" DVD+R 4x 50-pack), and the last two 50-packs I've gotten were both RICOHJPNR01 media. My advice would be to go with this other well-known retailer, as apparently your chances of getting the grade-A media are much better. Anyway, I give this media 5 stars, but be warned that with branded media like RiData (or Memorex, or Sony, etc) it will always vary as to who makes the discs -- this is a perfectly normal practice and there's no grounds to complain since this has been going on a long time with both CD and DVD recordable media. If you want guaranteed quality, I'd go with an OEM name like Taiyo Yuden.

Who can't use a little more psychedelia in their life?.......2007-01-07

On an empty wall it looks a little like the planet-eating amoeba from the original Star trek series. But an empty wall is just the beginning! It works well on ceilings, the floor, or all over anything that happens to be in a room. Sure to be a hit at parties. You aren't locked into a single color combination either, additional oil and graphic wheels are available. Cats also like the images.

The biggest downside is the massive power brick, which can only be turned off by unplugging it.

I have to agree with all of the positive reviews of this projector. I too researched this unit extensively online before deciding to purchase it. I am extremely pleased with this unit. Like I said in the title, I purchased this unit in January 2006, and it is still playing great. The main reason I bought this unit was to watch movies, but using it with my X-Box 360 in 720p mode it is spectacular. It may not be as crisp as a plasma or DLP TV, but on a 92 inch screen running with the bulb saver mode, I am more than impressed.

I love this projector. The picture is great. Very clear and crisp.
It looks especially good in HD.

I have had it for almost 2 years now and only one problem. One day the color just went out and I was only getting black and white. The Optoma people took it back and had it fixed quickly.

For the price I would recommend it to anyone.

Shuts down after about 30 hours.......2007-07-05

The projector did a nice job for about 10 films. It is quiet and pleasing in every way. Problem is that it suddenly decided to shut down completely without warning after five minutes; cools and restarts, then shuts down again. I called Beach Audio, which sells it for Amazon and they referred me to Optoma Tech Service (408-383-3700). The tech said it didn't sound like a bulb problem (I guess I'm thankful for that) and to send it back for service. I've had it for three months and am about to mail it out for service. I'll let you know how things turn out. It should be under service.

My Lamp Exploded at only 300 Hours.......2007-05-03

I will review this again later when Optoma replies to my suppor ticket, but for now, I cannot give this projector a good rating because the bulb just exploded at 300 hours. I was using this in my clean office, not a dusty room, and took good care of it. I only used it sparingly, not for more than 3 hours at a time.

As for the quality, it was not strong enough in a well-lit room. I had to turn off the lights and put a lamp on. Then it would work well for presentations and movies too. When it was completely dark, it had a nice picture for movies. But now that it exploded after only a few months of use, I am very disappointed to say the least. I just hope Optoma replaces the bulb or I am never buying their product again.

Today I spoke with Optoma, and they will not warranty the bulb past 90 days. So I just got screwed. I don't know if all manufactures have this same policy, but basically the 2 Year Warranty with Optoma is useless since the bulb is not covered. I don't know if I will buy another Optoma or not, but for now, I am not a happy customer and do not recommend this product to anyone.

Optoma Impresses me.......2007-01-27

I got this project for $650 after waiting around and searching for a good price. Let me just say I thought I was going to get a mediocre projector that I would really have to close down my room for so I could see it and was fully prepared to deal with some ugliness or rainbow effect.

It arrived and let me just say, I was shocked. I've seen projects that cost 3 times as much not look as good. I was worried about the low lumens count, only being around 750 I believe, but I can watch anything on it with the blinds open (I have it set up in my rather large living room with kitchen / dining room attached), the lights on, nothing seems to make it look too bad. Obviously, it really shines when it is pitch black in the room. I project onto a white textured wall and still it looks amazing.

My friend brought over the Xbox 360 and we played Gears of War for hours and it was incredible. It also has enough different inputs on the back so I can have my HDMI cable box (with a HDMI -> DVI cable), my component xbox and my composite Wii all hooked up without ever having to change out cables.

Probably the best buy I've made in years, maybe ever. I got much more than I thought I would and have been nothing but impressed. Zero problems. One drawback, I have to wait so darn long for it to turn on, startup time is probably close to a minute.

Great while they lasted........2007-03-08

I disregarded bad reviews, figuring the reviewers to be clumsy and/or abusive to the product. After taking the utmost care with these headphones for years now, they're suddenly losing sound. I have to wiggle the wire to get sound on the right side, but that only works so long as I don't move. Still, the sound was amazing while it lasted, but that's also a drawback. The quality is so good for closed 'phones that deprivation of their sound is irritating.

I've ordered the wire with the hopes that will fix my problem, but I've added a pair of HD280s to my cart to be safe. I'm reviewing this mainly to inform people--especially those prone to dropping things--to look elsewhere when buying a used headphone. These were discontinued for a reason.

Fantastic headphones even for pros - but somewhat fragile.......2005-09-02

Just for some background, I'm a professional composer, musician, and sound designer. I've been using these headphones for about 16 months in all sorts of high-priority work and they're fantastic. While other musicians I know are using thousand dollar monitors or headphones quadruple the cost of the eH2200s, I use these and consistently get very good results, even though I actually do all of the production and engineering of my own music and sounds. The frequency response is absolutely incredible and the set is so light and comfortable that I can wear them for hours (and do, on a daily basis).

My only complaint is their fragile build, and the long cord. I have no idea why the cord needs to be as long as it is, as it only gets in the way. The fragility of the unit is also a big minus. Though I'm very careful with my stuff, I've dropped these a couple times, and they've fallen off my desk a few times also. At this point there is now a slight buzzing in the left earpiece, meaning I'll probably have to get them replaced. However, I can't fault the product entirely, since it was partially my fault.

I'm also working on an entire sample library for film/TV composers using these headphones, and sample development/sound design absolutely REQUIRES high quality monitoring gear. Fragile........2005-06-08

These headphones have pretty great sound quality, and are pretty comfortable. The extra-long detachable cable is certainly a plus for people who move around and travel often with their headphones, such as musicians and gamers. However I have this big big BIG caveat to anyone who is buying these headphones.

The speakers in the headphones each have two copper wires buried beneath the driver that are about the breadth of a hair, and therefore easily broken. If you do not use the utmost caution with these headphones (and others of the Evolution series) then you will lose sound in one side and be extremely frustrated. Since these wires are covered by the driver, there is no way to repair a break in one without destroying the driver.

looks good, sounds good. but no good?.......2005-04-01

i've had my eh2200 for a while now when at its 1+th year, it decided to crackle, pop and finally shut off one of the sides. after trying to tell myself to not panic, naturally i went to buy a replacement for the "replaceable" cable, obvious at the time, since it's the ONLY replaceable part on the headphones. and i must say the sennheiser staff was very good at being very *neutral* by not making any suggestions that there is a possibility that it may be the headphones' problem, not the cable.

anyway, from the way the story sounds you may have guessed, the cables were actually fine from the start and now i'm about to send in my eh 2200 to get fixed at sennheiser. thank god for 2 year warranty (check their site). BUT, along the way, i also managed to find this out; eh2200 has been discontinued. i cant help but to think it has something to do with a manufacturing fault, than anything else. i've spoken to, seen in forums and reviews (even here!) of people going through the same scenario with eh2200.

dont get me wrong, when they work, these headphones are great. very comfortable, clear etc etc - all you could ever want in a pair of sennheiser, whether it be for music listening or production. all true, until they stop working...

For the most part, these cans did well. Flattest frequency response you can get for $70, highly comfortable and lightweight, and with durable construction. So why does it get just one star?

1. The detatchable headphone cable is a nightmare. It always gets pulled out when I stand up, or if the cat trips over the cord by the floor. But if it needs replacing, you have to order another by mail from the company as it's a "sub"-mini plug and hard to find (a way to prevent self-serviceability by getting radioshack replacements).

2. After a few years, the right ear driver just stopped working. No jiggling could convince the eh2200s otherwise. The wires all look fine, I even replaced the detatchable one. I've heard of this happening to other consumers as well.

3. Sennheiser's customer service is a joke. It's nonexistent. Sent them a tech question email through the proper channels of their website - 2 months and still no reply. Called their service phone during their own business hours: nobody there. Even if they come back to me and offer to service the cans for a small fee, I'm going to invest in another brand, one that perhaps picks up the phone!!

For some years I tried this and other Monster products, to the tune of over $1000 in Monster a/v gear. The more you learn about video and audio, the more you'll avoid anything with the Monster label. Specifically, this s-video meets no NTSC, DVD or IEEE standard; it is common 30-ohm hookup wire with ineffective shielding and a poorly designed, low-conductance connect plug that can wreck your input jacks and gives poor grounding. Has a sharp image, but includes a catalog of chromatic aberrations from off-color skin tones to color blotching, dirty grays, burned highlights, murky shadows, noisy reds, and poor color balance due to impedance mismatching that results in cyan errors and bleeding reds. Makes video test patterns look great, but who watches test patterns all day? Amazon offers many other brands at good prices, why waste your $$ on this stuff? I removed every piece of Monster from my system and replaced them with AR, Belden, Viewsonics and others from Amazon. Result: vast improvement in every respect.

I had a pair of these cables for approximately 2 years when i noticed there was a frayed end where the connector started to come off. I didn't notice any change in performance but I recalled that ALL Monster Cable "wires" have a lifetime warranty. I thought I'd try and take advantage of their claim and low and behold, I easily made arrangements to have a new one exchanged. It took only a week of waiting (back and forth shipping, mind you) and I had a brand spanin' new cable in my possesion. Great customer service!!!

~I bought the MVSV3-1m cable and put it between my Pioneer V555 DVD player and SONY WEGA tv KV-27FS12, I was unable to see with my naked eyes any improvement regading the visual quality, color, sharpness. Same as the result as I used the composite cable came with the box. I really don't know why. I have to say, my TV is a good one and the picture quality is already satisfactory even I don't use DVD player. Unfortunately my DVD player does not have component jack to let me try the next level video~~ experience. I don't want to say this expensive cable is a poor one, I was just unable to verify its alledged ultra high performance. we just don't have a benchmark to evaluate it.~

Don't believe me - buy and then return it, or just save yourself
