Much more than we thought!.......2002-01-15

We were about to have a baby and my wife and I realized that having a simple camcorder would be nice thing to have. I wasn't shopping for anything fancy, and I certainly wasn't in the market to make films, however, for the price, this little Hi-8 camcorder does a great jop. In fact, its taping quality is fantistic.
The only thing that I wish that it had was image stablization. A tri-pod fixes that problem. It has many features that we would never use, but is still nice to see them there. My wife and I were impressed with the quality of the picture the very first time we watched a video.
Also, one thing to look out for, Samsung camcorder batteries are hard to find. For some reason, other than Samsung, Rayovac is the only company that makes a backup battery for this camcorder.
But enjoy, you won't be disapointed.

Unbelievable Quality!.......2001-08-19

I was so thrilled about the quality of this camera! After reading the previous reviews I decided to buy it (Had intended on a more expensive camcorder but changed my mind after reading about this camcorder) To say it is worth the money is definitely an understatement! It is really a great camcorder. The only small complaint I would have is that the person's voice that you are recording is not as loud as I would like it to be. The one doing the recording is much louder than the one being taped. That may be with all camcorders since the microphone is right near the recorders' mouth, but I expected the subject to be louder in volume than it was. Overall, I am not at all dissapointed. Although I am not an expert with camcorders, I would definitley purchase this one before spending alot more on another one with similar features. Very well made!

Great Camcorder - Samsung SCW62.......2001-07-21

For the beginner or someone needing a second, inexpensive camcorder, this one is great. Generally, easy to use but with many features. I didn't expect this much from an inexpensive unit. This Hi8 camcorder is easy to hook up to a VCR for copying to a standard VCR tape. The battery charge lasts for the full time, as advertised. My only complaint, if you can call it that, has to do with the marking of the buttons on the top of the camcorder (EDIT-, LIGHT, EDIT+, and DATE/TIME). They have dual functions depending on which mode (Camera or Player) has been selected. However, they are marked for only one option. The user has to remember which button to press. For example, to PLAY, press the LIGHT button). This can be confusing intitally. Regardless, this is a fine item for the price.

A Top Contender for the Hi8 Class.......2001-06-08

No doubt, this camera's got a lot, for a very cheap price. Compared to my previous camera which cost around ..., the Samsung SCW62 has more features, better quality, superior performance, and 1/4 the price tag. Samsung has really out-done themselves this time around for the price range.

Some notable features - DSP, auto and manual focus, BLC, several AE presets ranging from 1/60 to 1/10,000 (buy a BIG light), some limited manual white balance presets, and composite and S-Video outputs. Seriously lacking from this package is an external mic jack, any type of recording function that lets you record edited video back to the camera from a deck or computer, image stabilizing for those of us who drink too much coffee, and only mono (not stereo) audio recording capabilities.

If you later opt to upgrade to digital and choose Sony's Digital 8 format, you'll still be able to playback the cassettes recorded on this camera, as well as transfer them to computer via Sony's iLink.

In short, this is a fine camera for quick and easy home videos, and with the Hi8 format, although it can't compare to DV, it is certainly a lot better than VHS or 8mm quality.

Didn't do the job.......2007-09-19

I have a Vizio 42" plasma that was connect to my HD DVD and H20 Directv dish via an HDMI cable. My HDMI connection broke (long story)so I had these Monster component cables lying around and I connected them. These cable don't do the job. The picture now has lots of noise and grainy and is simply not as smooth as with a Acoustic Reasearch HDMI cable.

Monster Cables are a Rip Off.......2007-09-18

I compared a Monster Cable vs one the one from Phillips which costs less than half this. And guess what, no difference. That's right. They rip you off. And what's the purpose off a gold plated connection if the rest of the signal passes through a copper cable.

It irks me see the staff at BestBuy and Circuit City pitching Monster's $75 Component Cables and $120 HDMI cables at uneducated customers. There are cheaper and equally performing cables out there. Do your research and save some of your hard earned money.

By the way, be wary of all the glowing reviews you read on amazon for this product or for others as well. Recently I have been seeing a lot of positive reviews from anonymous reviewers or reviewers with only one review to their name.

Composite Video cables make a difference.......2007-01-13

Definite difference if you are using an HDTV the DVD picture is much clearer, only wondering if HDMI is even better? Only downside is, I wish the cables were about 10ft long for more slack.

Top Quality for Analog Cables.......2006-12-15

I have good components, some of which don't have HDMI. So, I needed high quality componenet video cables. I got these, and it is hard to imagine better performance--even from HDMI. I run these cables from my DirecTV DVR to my AV Receiver. Another (longer) set runs from the Receiver to the wide-screen TV. The picture is sharp. I initially didn't get one of the connections pushed all the way onto the female end, and it didn't work. So, I pushed hard to get it on there, and it worked fine. These are tight (that's a good thing, since you don't want loose connections). Just push hard to get them on good, and they will work great.

These are cables are great if you have a system that might actually take advantage of them. I have a 50' Sony LCD Projection and the Sony Dav-FR8 Dream System, if I did not own a television that had a native 720p format or equivalant and a decent progressive scan DVD, why would I buy a 50$ cable to connect them.
When you get into mid to higher end components, your system becomes only as good as its weakest element, for me probaly my dvd player in my HTIB. In my case, I did notice a difference once I upgraded, I now know that I am recieving the best possiable picture from my DVD, but I am a into this sort of thing, for most it may all look the same.
In short these are not nessecary for 90% of home theaters, but if you spent $3000+ on your tv, I would say why not spring for them, otherwise you are not taking full advantage of your investment. But if you have a smaller flat screen CRT or the like, you will not be missing anything other than $30 if you choose to buy these cables.

I've had this little guy for over a year now and I love it. I love having these useful items handy at all times. The drive detaches so if you need that part on the plane you can just stick it in your pocket. The only thing I would do different is get a larger drive but the 128MB is good for most things.

I went swimming this morning and forgot to take this knife out of my pocket. I swam for a good 30 minutes with the knife completely submerged in salt water. I assumed it was ruined.

I can't believe it, but after drying out for a few hours--not only does the light still work, but so does the usb memory--I didn't lose anything on there.

A couple of the reviewers mentioned that you cannot carry-on this item with you on planes, and yes, this is true of any "knife" post 9/11. However, you can put this device (and any other pocket knife for that matter) into CHECKED luggage. I've taken this item with me inside my checked luggage through many airports without problem.

Takes a lickin'.......2006-02-09

OK so it is more expensive than other drives and will get you in trouble if you try to fly with it.
I dropped my drive in the street outside my home and did not find it until a week later (in New England, in February). It had obviously been run over a few times, as the red plastic cover had broken off, and the rain had taken its toll on the metal shell, which was a little rusty.
But it worked! I got my data back!

This piece is really quite over-priced for what you get, though not having the knife allows you to bring this on a plane with you. I've seen this unit marketed elsewhere as a "travel-friendly" Swiss Army tool (not knife).

Nevertheless, the unit I have is the 64MB version of:

...which costs considerably less (~$30) on Amazon, has the same 128MB USB drive and red light as the unit on this page, plus you get a small quantity of Swiss Army tools INCLUDING a knife. Unless you are concerned about going on a plane, I'd recommend the ASIN: B0002VM8ZM over the unit on this page. BTW, I got my handy little 64MB unit (which I'd give four stars for if I had the option) for only $9.99 on clearance at Target.

Was a bit mislead..........2005-07-28

Maybe I should read the description better, but I was disapointed to find out, when receiving it, that this is JUST a USB Key with a pen and anemic led light.

No "swiss army stuff". Not even a knife. I thought all swiss army knives are supposed to have, you know, a knife?

That said, the USB key is very tiny, almost too small on its own (detached from the swiss army non-knife housing), so it's good it has a "home" within the casing, otherwise it would probably go missing.

A USB storage device is a generic item available from many, many makers. This one does the same thing as the others, yet costs considerably more than even some famous brands as you can see on the website called "price watch". The other features included don't go particularly well with a USB drive -- they are unrelated.

The interesting thing with this device is the race: will the pen run out of ink before or after the 128 MB drive is considered obsolete technology?

This product generatesa lot of attention. I like this one very much and looks very cool and very handy. It is very small when compared with other products in the market for a similar kind. The bright red LED is kinda OK. Ball point pen is very handy, though the quality of the tip is not very good.

Nice all purpose lens. Nice range........2007-02-27

I bought this lens for those times when all I want is the camera and one lens. There are times when its nice having every accessory known to man packed in a case on your back but who needs all that when attending a party or family picnic. I really like the 18mm end of the range but do see the benefit of reaching out further without a lens change which the 125mm end provides. I have read all the technical analysis most of which confuses me and comes across like splitting hairs. Maybe some of those reviewers can afford to spend hundreds more. It seems like just about every lens suffers from something. Capturing an image that pleases the PHOTOGRAPHER is what is really important and so far I have been very pleased with the results. The lens is being used on a Nikon D50 so I have NOT experienced any of the focus problems the Canon users seem to talk about. As far as focus speed and noise are concerned, I can't tell the difference between this lens and my other Sigma(2) and Nikon(1) lenses. I should mention that I did consider the 18-200mm lens but decided against it because the 18-125mm has been in production longer, doesn't stretch the technical limits as far, and costs about $100 less.

Excellent Lens!.......2006-04-20

I have a Nikon D50 with the 18-55mm lens. I wanted a lens that would handle most of my requirements without carrying multiple lenses. I considered the Nikon 18-70mm but wanted just a bit more on the telephoto end. The Sigma 18 to 125mm f3.5-5.6 looked like it would do the job nicely. Being a retired news and commercial photographer, I was concerned about the quality of the non-Nikon lens but after reading a number of reviews, decided to give the Sigma a try.

I'm delighted I did! I really like this lens! Colors are crisp and true. The lens feels solid and works very smoothly and, most important, it is needle sharp! There is a small sound when focusing but it's not objectionalble. Focus is quick and accurate even in low light conditions. Unlike the low priced Nikons, the Sigma has a metal mounting flange.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this lens again. It does more than I expected for a very reasonable price!

do a little research and don't be fooled. Sigmas are generally a hit or miss thing for the lens quality. And worse off if you travel with the camera..seals are not at all reliable. Last but not least go ito a store and compare the drive noise on this unit to any other brand...very very noise...sorry i can not recommend them. Nikon, Tamron, Tokina...I personally prefer Nikon and Tokina...good luck

I bought this lens to use with my Canon EOS300D. Buyers should beware of the noticeable vignetting - in my opinion this problem is not acceptable in a lens of this price. Sigma should have sorted this out before putting it on the market. On the plus side is the convenient zoom range and the compact size. I guess it depends on whether you consider these benefits outweigh the vignetting problems. Yes, it can be corrected with imaging software, but who wants to have to correct every picture that has an area of sky or other light subject matter in the corners?

I bought this lens so that when I travel using my Nikon D100 I could have an all-in-one zoom that would spare me the inconvenience of constantly changing lenses. I have not regretted this purchase, as for most situations the resulting photos are quite satisfactory. However, potential buyers should be aware that any lens that is designed to "do it all" involves compromises.

The lens balances well on an SLR body, is remarkably compact, and is well-made. It's not as solid, however, as an expensive professional-level zoom, so don't drop it! The petal-type lens hood works well to prevent routine flare.

Photos I have taken have been sharp and clear, with only a bit of softness at maximum aperture and at the longest focal lengths. The lens has a few shortcomings, however. In some lighting situations the color cast of digital images seems to be a bit "tan," tending almost toward sepia tones. This can be corrected easily enough in Photoshop (or whatever post-exposure program one uses). Perhaps a bit more annoying is that there is noticeable light falloff in the corners, a phenomenon that is most prominent in photos that include large areas of sky. Again, this can be dealt with in post-processing (mainly through slight cropping), but potential buyers should be aware of this issue.

The best thing about the lens is that it provides adequate performance at focal lengths ranging from standard wide-angle (what would be the equivalent of around 27mm. in a 35mm. camera) to basic telephoto (187 mm. at 35mm.) This makes it quite useful for general, "walkaround" photography, especially when one is traveling. If you want the absolute best in optical performance, however, you might find the lens wanting in some situations.
