All the 5 star ratings are correct in their review that radio is top notch in sound (though a little boomy for some music types), style, and ease of use.

Only 4 stars because power switch should be like Tivoli's. Can be annoying to click through AM to get to FM side. I still believe this is the best of the bucn (Tivoli, Bose, BA).

Good Alternative to Tivoli and BA.......2007-06-08

This is a viable alternative to the Tivoli and Boston Acoustics models. Tivoli (to my ears) is best sounding of bunch. Boston Acoustics has two alarms and digital display. But both are $30-$60 more. Sangean has great FM reception; perhaps more bass than one would like (for classical and NPR news). Recommended.

one of the best hi fi table radios.......2007-05-17

This is without doubt one of the best table radios in regards to build quality, reception and sound quality. Competitive with Tivoli, Boston, Bose and others. Probably the best value overall among these. I replaced a 50 watt stereo receiver with high end stereo speakers with this to save space and with very good results. Tone level adjustments would be nice but not critical with proper placement depending on room acoustics. Highly recommended.

Fits the bill.......2007-05-13

I bought this radio for an elderly person whose eyesight is limited. Digital controls were impossible to cope with, but this radio was simple to turn on and tune. The sound quality is excellent. Only quibble I have is that the "walnut" cabinet turned out to be a light color more like birch, but that doesn't matter in this case. The recipient is quite pleased.

The black-finished MDF (medium-density fiberboard) cabinet will accent any room in your home or office. Simple to operate with three conventional knobs, the 3-inch speaker and 7-watt amplifier easily fill a room with pure, undistorted sound, even at high listening levels. The radio houses built-in FM and AM antennas, but you can use optional external antennas too, via the WR-1's rear-panel antenna terminals.

Wonderful Radio with Lighted Slide Tuning.......2007-01-23

Great Sound with a wonderful LIGHTED slide tuner dial. It's great to have a lighted dial that works and looks like they did in the old days. I own a GE Super Radio (no lighted dial), a Bose Wave, a ccRadio Plus and three other various Sonys and this sounds better than any of them. Give me this radio and the GE for portability and I'm set.

poor sound quality, high price, good style.......2007-01-12

I ordered this mainly because of other reviews that were very good. As the reviews said, the bass is too much, the reception is very good, and the construction is very solid. The thick wood makes it wonderfully heavy for a such a small item. The bass is excellent but too much and it's not adjustable. Tape over the back port reduces the bass, but it's really awful sound quality anyway you look at it unless you admire the cars that go "thump-thump" in the hood. Why get this non-portable thing when you can get much better sound from a GE superadio from radio shack for $55? If you like small size, solid construction, good reception, and too much bass, then it's a best buy. But really i have a $12 sony pocket radio that sounds better. Hasn't sangean ever heard of this wonderful thing called treble? I like bass as much as the next person, but this is just poor sound quality. It's mainly just a style item. The style is perfect except for the grill over the speaker. They should have used a metal hole type instead of plastic with slots. I remember all those cheap radios that used to use the plastic slots over the speaker. All the good ones have metal holes. This is not for someone seeking accurate sound reproduction. I'll have to read the reviews again to make sure all these 5's are not employees. I'm sending it back because i don't like getting cheated.

Update: 3 stars instead of 1. After realizing it wouldn't be easy to return it, i kept it and actually I kind of like it now. The bass (base?) is still too much, but i grew accustomed to it I would now rate the device a 3 instead of 1. Also, fafter more testing with the GE device, I decided it was kind of cheap. By far the best value is a Sony ICF-36 which is a thinner and much lighter portable analog radio for $18. Four AA batteries last 20 to 40 hours and the sound is great (which is why analog tuning is better than digital). Although the bass in the sony isn't as good as this sangean, the treble is better. I bought four of them for 3 places in the house and a spare. Our AA rechargeable batteries last so long, we never bother to plug them up.

FM Great AM Not so great.......2006-07-14

The title of this review says it all. AM reception is better than average but I hear all sorts of funny high pitched hisses with AM. FM is perfect. Also, when used as a speaker for a device with a headphone jack it won't act as a radio until you unhook the cable.

Great Camera.......2007-05-06

I don't have much to add to what others have written, but I have dropped this camera quite a few times, and aside from a few minor scratches on the case, no harm was done. Highly recommended!

Fairly high quality camera for the price........2007-01-18

I've been using mine for about a year and a half now, and have been quite pleased with the general quality and range of available features. I use mine with a 256MB memory card, which significantly limits the camera's use for taking video clips, but with a 1GB card this should not be much of an issue. The combination of optical and digital zoom allows you to blow up selected portions of a longer range picture without compromising the quality of the image, although your ability to do this on a lower resolution is obviously not going to be as great. I normally don't use the full 7MP capacity simply to allow a larger number of photos between downloads, but it's nice to know it's there when I need it. Definitely not a bad camera for the price. On the down side, I would note that this seems a bit fragile. I had to send mine to have the lens barrel replaced within the one-year warranty period, despite not having dropped it or otherwise abused it.

This is the best camera I've ever owned. It takes very clear, crisp pictures and with the 1 gig memory card I put in it I can get about 45 min of very clear video of my new granddaughter. I would recomend this camera to anyone that wants to take photos like a professional with a low price tag.

The camera has good things, one of them is the price.
The bad things about it are the size, the newer are slimer.
Not all the batteries works for the camera.

Pretty good camera, especially for the price.......2006-03-24

I recently got the DigiMax A7, and I knew it was a lower priced 7 megapixel camera, so I expected it to be good but not great. Overall, I would say it is somewhere between good and great.

One thing I recently noticed while taking pictures in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is that this camera doesn't take such great pictures in lower light. Maybe I was using the wrong settings, I had it set to Automatic, and I have used cameras all my life. If I was more familiar with this camera, I would have tried more of the manual functions. I do like how you can adjust the f-stop and shutter speed to whatever you want, this may have solved my problem. The low light images came out a little bit blurrier and grainier than brighter light pictures.

In bright light, I can't say how great this camera is. In bright sunlight, which is often ideal for taking pictures, the image clarity is AMAZING. I took pictures of a valley here in Colorado, and literally, I zoomed in on a house about a mile away (after I took the picture I zoomed in while viewing it on the LCD), and although the house wasn't extremely clear, you can tell if there is someone on the deck!

I wish I could give this camera 5 stars, but to be honest if you bought a $700 7 megapixel camera, you are probably going to get a 5 star device. I believe the price paid for this camera was about $200 though, so if you are an average consumer, not a professional photographer, you will probably love this camera. You definetly can't find a better camera in this price range, and I'm hoping this camera serves me well as I would have no problem keeping this as my main camera for the next 3 years (until I beat it up)

One last thing, a friend of mine recently got a camera (6 or 7 MP) and I don't remember what brand, but it could take pictures literally like 2 per second. This camera does take about 3-5 seconds for the flash to charge back up, so it's hard to take action shots since you can't take a quick succession of pictures. That would be nice, but honestly not many cameras can do that anyway.

When I ordered this product, I thought I was ordering an actual Sharp brand battery. When it came it was a substitute brand; but it fit my camera perfectly and I am able to use my existing charger. I was very pleased with the speed in which it was delivered. It came within a couple days. Overall I was very pleased with this purchase.

OK I have had many cd players, or disc men, or portable CD players or whatever you want to call them, before. This is the best i have had yet. The sound is rich, and the double dynamic boost bass (digital DBB) tottaly enriches the sound giving you some of the best sound you can get. They DO NOT lie when they say "JOG PROOF." I once dropped this player on the floor in the car on a dirt road, and i still did not miss a single not, the player did not skip what so ever with the 45 ESP on. It includes a very useful clock, and it even has an alarm!! You can have a cd turn on when the alarm goes off, or you can have a beeping noise go off and some other options as well. The radio is very easy to use with the obvious RADIO-BAND button to turn it on, and the very simple up and down arrows for the DIGITAL TUNER, and there are another set of arrows on the other side of the very easy to read LCD screen to change songs or tracks as well as fast forward or rewind them. The LCD screen provides the icon for the Digital DBB, an icon for the 45 ESP and a battery diagram to show how much battery power you have left. It also shows the track or song number and the time of the track. When having the radio function on it shows the same icons but instead of the trach number and time it has the station (EXAMPLE. 92.3) it also shows if it is a preset, and if it is not you have th option of making it one and 29 other stations as well, it also shows wether it is an FM or AM station. The thing i love about this player is that you can program songs off a CD onto the player!! This player is definetly worth the money, with its many options and functions, and great sound. The headphones that come with the player are very good as well, they are very comfortable on the ears, and are very durable. I highly recomend this player to anybody who loves high quality sound, and listens to it for quite a while. The batteries last for a very long time, and so that you don't waste battery power it has a hold switch so the player does not turn on while in a backpack or some place like that, when not wanted to. It also has a resume switch so you dont have to start a song over when you have to turn it off for some reason. You could pause it and leave it at the spot, but again that would waste battery power. To sum it all up this is an amazing player and i very, very highly recomend it to all music lovers like me. A Solid Portable CD Player.......2002-01-09

This player is very feature-packed: aside from being "jogproof", it features AM/FM radio w/ 30 presets, Clock, Alarm, Line-output, & 2 levels of digital bass boost. Sound quality is excellent, especially for the price of the player. Even the stock headphones that come with the player aren't awful. Only one annoying aspect of this model: the high-pitched beep it makes (via the heaphones) when you press a button, such as switching the track or changing the bass settings, which is kind of disruptive to the music and a tad irritating to the ears. If that doesn't bother you, this player is well worth the money. Only other concern I have is durability: something about it feels flimsly, though only time will tell. Frankly, I'm thankful those are the only two negative points I've noticed - as portable CD players seem to decline in just about every aspect except for anti-skip protection every single year. The fact that this Philips player has line-out capabilities (ie, can be connected to a stereo system) was enough to sell me, as so few lower-priced models have this anymore. Definitely a good deal you should consider.

fm reception a little troublesome.......2002-01-03

It is a great looking cd player .the esp mode works well. It doesn't have a loud enough volume. I live in a large midwest city and it never really locks a good signal.

If you are even thinking of getting this cd player don't wait any longer, this thing has got it all. A convenient clock with alarm lets you know the time at the push of a button. Also, the alarm feature lets you set your alarm to either beep, radio or cd mode. The cd playing is amazing, with 99 programable tracks and up to 45 seconds of ESP, this device is totally jogproof. In addition the radio is very convenient, with great reception, not to mention 30 presets. Simply at the push of a button you can switch from cd to radio mode and back in no time flat, no annoying opening and closing the lid. All in all, this cd player is trully the best of phillips and a tremendous value. So if your looking for an alternative to Sony, look no farther than right here.

This Philips CD player sounds terrific! Its a terrific value and the anti-shock works great. Would make a great holiday gift for people of all ages!
