For short money, this was easy and fast. Just plug it in and it works. Faster than my last one but I am no expert by any means. All I know is that it does what I want it to do.

You absolutely CAN use this floppy drive to boot your computer. The review saying otherwise must have been misinformed, or did not understand how to configure their BIOS settings properly.
I've used this drive to boot dozens of different systems with no issues.
Portable & Nice.......2004-02-04
I bought this drive along with a Compaq centrino notebook, it comes in black with a driver CD that you probably won't need if your OS is Windows XP (both Pro or HE).
Drive speed is faster than classic drives, and it's sleek design matched the centrino design of my notebook, however, the manufacturer released a titanium version of the same drive (SmartDisk FDUSB-TM2) which better matches Compaq, Toshiba and Sony centrino notebooks.

They don't bother telling you in the product description that this floppy drive can't be used to boot your computer system from this drive........Had to find out the hard way after scanning the files on the driver disk and users manual where it's noted in small print.
Great!.......2003-10-20
Works great. Part of the reason I got this was because it was so small. However, because it was so small there is no extra room between the disk and the drive. One of my disks got stuck in there because the disk label had peeled up slightly and got snagged in the drive. I was able to retrieve my disk with pliers. Admittedly, this is not a defect of the drive but something to take into consideration.

Great for archiving your old data!.......2006-07-10
I bought this to use with my powerbook, and was able to copy off data from all my old 3.5" floppy disks. Worked great, even with really old disks, and with some disks where heat had degraded the data, I was able to mount them and then use a repair program to get them repaired enough to get all the data of. I transferred about 70 disks worth of data, and was only unable to mount one of them- most likely because the disk was too damaged.
Totally worth the $30 I paid when I bought this originally.

I bought one and it erased content on my disks. DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE.
Plug & Play on MacOS X.......2003-05-15
I have used it on my PowerMac G4 running Jaguar OS X. It takes about 1 full minute to mount a floppy once the disk is inserted in the drive. After that, file transfers seem pretty quick (for a floppy, that is) and it works great.
Classic Mac users (old-timers?) like me are used to a floppy drive that ejects the disc when it is dragged to the trash, but this one has no eject motor, so you'll need to "give it the finger" on the handy eject button to eject the disk.
It has a sleek look and is nicely compact. It feels quite rugged, so it should handle roadtrips well with my iBook.
OS X - Mounts w/o drivers, slow........2003-03-13
Well, it is no speed demon but gets the job done. I plugged it into my Powerbook G3 (OS 10.2.4) and it took a while to mount. That's pretty much what I was looking for, I hate floppies, but my mom needs it to bring her virrii..ehhrr...documents when she uses the labs at the college she attends to.
trouble with an iMac, OS8.6.......2003-02-08
This is not plug and play for an iMac, G3, running OS8.6. The main problem is that the documentation enclosed in the box and on the CD is misleading. It tells you to go to outdated web sites and download software that is probably on your machine anyway. It doesn't tell you to go to the SmartDisk website to download their latest driver. These drivers could have been included on their CD, but the CD is useless for Mac users. It took me two hours to solve the problem. My father, who is a novice user of this iMac, doesn't know what a driver is, and never would have been able to get this simple disk drive working. I'm sure there are tens of thousands of novice users of old iMacs who will have the same problem. So I give one star for their web site, which is well-organized, and one star for the hardware, which actually works after you spend hours downloading software.

Best Surge Protector Overall.......2004-10-26
Not only do I use this model at home, but I insist my clients buy these in bulk and that every desk have one. These units have a combination of features that make them simply the best for PC's and networking equipment.
-They are easily wall mountable.
-They have 3 large AC block sockets. 2 of which are used for "always on" equipment.
-The off/on button is recessed. This is my favorite feature as it cannot be found on many other protectors. This prevents accidental turn off.
-The cord is plenty long.
-The plug is right angled.

good pda.......2004-12-11
i doubt anyone will even ever read this as sony has pulled out of the market, but this is a really solid pda. i need a new one b/c the screen is messed up from dropping it too many times (i am really hard on it). i have really enjoyed it though. as long as i am replacing it, i want a faster processor. 66 Mhz is a lot faster than the original palms, and faster than most folks need...but i run some medical software on mine that utilizes every ounce of speed. if you are just a regular user, or relatively new to pdas, you won't be disappointed in this one! be sure to get the cradle that comes with it as it is pretty cool.

Best all around PDA out there.......2004-01-13
This has been one of the better electronics purschases I've made. Memory is great, full of features (MP3 audio is great), no stupid thumb keyboard. I've thought of upgrading just because, but despite being two years old, no other PDA on the market is as functional as the T-665C. The only drawback - no way to add a WiFi card. COme on SOny! Build it, and they will come!
awesome PDA/ Entertainment Organizer/ what-have-you.......2003-12-27
Great buy. I got it for cheap and use it primarily as a MP3 player, and to read news and ebooks. If you plan to do all that, be ready to shell out another $65-70 bucks for a 256MB Memory stick otherwise it doesn't play MP3s. I didn't buy the obscenely expensive MS Pro (white ones) and I use a freely downloadable ripper (CDex) to rip my music CDs to MP3s. You have to make sure that copyright stuff isn't included in your MP3s b/c they won't play. Some weird Sony thing.
Build quality is super and its sexy as hell (its a Sony). The bundled audio player is pretty basic though and you can't do anything except turn bass on and off. I have yet to come across a better one, and if I do, I would install it promptly. SonicStage software for your PC is utterly useless, as is the Sony's ATRAC format for song compression (I hope someone from Sony reads this... why? why? why??). Most of the software that comes on the CD are trial versions, but there are plenty of great software (and free too) to download from a bunch of Palm sites. But know that the number of Clie-specific software is much less than Palm (Zire/Tungsten)-specific software.
The scroll button in the front of the Clie is too small for anyone to use (as you might have gathered from all other reviews), but Sony makes up for it with the very useful jog dial and back button on the side. I find the screen too slick, so I've put a high quality screen protector (highly recommended... but that's 10 bucks more) and can also comfortably use my finger as a stylus over it sometimes. I've heard people complain of battery life. But that is to be expected of a device so thin and light and having a great color display. If you're going on a long trip listening to music, don't use the Clie to read stuff at the same time and u can squeeze out 6 hours on a full charge (use the Hold button). If you don't use the backlight, the battery life between charges, even while playing MP3s, is very respectable.

I got this unit about 2 months ago at an excellent price ($149.00 new). I purchased it at a navy military Exchange store in Mountain View, Ca. Meaning the price that I got it for was exactly $149 because of the no tax policy. I've owned palm pilots before (Palm m105, Palm m130, then Palm 550) I wanted to go different ways but still get the excellence of Palm OS. So I saw this at the store (and for your info this is regular price at any military place from now on) and I got it.
I love this PDA it does everything that you want...personal assitant and entertainment! The look is sleek and matches its weight appropriately.
Some tips and add-ons to make it even better than it is:
1. Add Kinoma Player (free) and Producer ($). The quality is 10x better than the provided gMovie. Download cartoon episodes (The Simpsons) to fit 2 entire shows on a 128mb.
2. Get Documents to Go Premium($). You can review your drafts of a very important report rather than bring your bulky notebook computer. Use it like an editor for last minute fixups! Powerpoint is awesome!
3. To fillup some room on Datebook and remember important holidays and learn of some new ones - get Holidates2 ($)
4. Get SplashPhoto - view your pictures from your sony camera memory stick. SplashMoney - "So thats how much money I have." SplashID - get your plethora of info, serial, registration, usernames, passwords, etc organized!
5. Games - the best there is "Warfare Incorporated" The best sound, graphics, challenge there is in a PDA game. (has actual voice overs). Only bad thing is the huge memory it needs...store it in a card. Second place is "Billiards" - just like yahoo pool. Third - "Bejeweled" Fourth - the always popular "DopeWars"
6. Reading up on news and sports? Get avantgo (free). Pictures are a bit cluttered but clear enough and updated very often.
7. Make sure you get your free map from Mapopolis - this helped me a few times during my times in SF.
8. Battery Life (a happier life?) a. Keep brightness level exactly at 50% this gives you almost same level as 100% but saves you 30% on extended battery life. b. Turn off "Beam Receive" in Pref menu. Because if on - it searches for activity in the air every 2 min. c. When outside make sure you turn off the backlight (by holding down the off button) d. You can leave the T665c on the charger overnight, when the charge light goes off, there's only a very small trickle charge being delivered to the battery, whcih is probably helpful in the long run. I really like how my clie looks on the charger...very neat. Hopefully you got the matching cradle.
9. Purchase BugMe and exchange the memopad shortcut button to this handy application. You can now write your own short messages in your own handwriting.
10. To save a few K bits - delete any unneeded soundutility sounds (i keep about 5 of them only).
11. For your address book...get small size quality pictures for each of your collegues and friends and paste it on each of them. Also make a professional buisness card when you need to beam.
12. Finally to complement the beauty of the unit you will need to protect it without deceiving the look. Get the Metal Deluxe Case from InnoPocket that has the exact material finish and dimenstions of the T665c. Now the Bad:
1. Battery life is not great when you want to listen to music at the same time when your doing applications.
2. Can't delete some preinstalled software...like gMovie.
3. Not sure how to replace LiOn battery when needed.

Quality LCD Monitor.......2001-05-30
The first 15" LCD Monitor I bought from Amazon was cheaper and not a name brand. After trying it for a week and never getting it adjusted to my satisfaction, they allowed me to return it and get a different one. I went with Philips because it was a trusted brand and I found out you get what you pay for! This monitor was easy to set up and once I got it hooked up it gave me an incredible display. Spend a little more for a Philips, its worth it!
