My battery was non-servicable after a year. Battery is very difficult to get and change out. No one wants to talk about it ... I thought the COMPAQ PDA I bought was bad! I never expected this level of non-support from SONY. Get a Palm!
BUYER BEWARE! .......2006-05-22
I purchased my Sony PEG TJ27 and it worked great for the first 6 months then the battery died, then the screen light phased out. What a nightmare, Spend the extra money for a PALM, you'll be much happier.
Problems, problems, ..........2005-12-16
First I could not sync. Returned the unit to Sony for repair (warranty). Then they forgot to ship the sync cable back with the unit. Now, after the warranty period, the camera on the Clié no longer works - a message says "the lens cover is closed" but it is not... So I can't use the camera in the unit any more. I will go back to Palm next time...
DON'T DO IT!.......2005-11-08
After a little over a year, my PEG-TJ27 is useless. I had to return it to SONY support within 2 months due to screen issues...and that alone was a nightmare trying to get it fixed. The latest is my battery died and I cannot recharge it. I plug it into the cables, and it comes on for about 10 seconds then shuts down and the recharge light is off...will not recharge...
so if you are considering purchasing this (or any SONY PDA for that matter) I suggest you run the other way...
beware.......2005-08-12
I have a PEG-TJ37 and like another reviewer, my back-light has quit. I think it is because the screws fall out of the casing. So..beware. I love the unit though and hope to replace it on e-bay. Good MP3 player, decent low-res camera, and unlimited memory if you don't mind using memory sticks. This is the second CLIE I have owned and both were trouble-free for about 2 years.

FOR WHAT IT DOES ... IT DOES GREAT!.......2007-07-30
So far I've really been pleased with the INport Deluxe. I've converted about 10 LP's which I hadn't heard for about 20 year. The only negative is about the 'splitting tracks' section, which doesn't really apply to my situation, since the music I'm working with is classical and has big 'chunks'. I tried to 'experience' the section but when a thick skull rund into obtuse instructions, success is not in the cards. Still, all in all I am very satisfied with no important complaints. Thanks for the great product.
Not very user friendly - works great!.......2007-07-16
I purchased this for my father for his birthday. The overall idea of the program is wonderful, he has been a longtime musician and is now able to record and save all of the music he's written and performed from tape to CD. However, the program is not very user friendly. He was having some problems starting up and installing, and there really was no clear explanation of what to do. After he had figured it out he went to work on saving all of his music from tape to CD, and all of his old records from record to CD. What a great idea!
Takes Alot of Patience.......2007-07-14
The product does exactly as promised. It transfers my old LP's to my computer where they are then made into cds. Its ability to remove hiss and pops and still maintain a sound quality comparable to new cds is incredible. The only problem I encountered was getting used to Xitel's Ripper program where you take the entire contents of an album or two and break it down into individual tracks. The instructions unfortunately fall short in explaining exactly how this works. With alot of trial and error, I finally mastered it and can now perform this task rather rapidly. All in all, it is a great product that just requires a bit of patience in the beginning. After that, it's smooth sailing!

It's not often you can write a glowing review of a product, without hesitation or reservations. This is it! It does exactly what it says it will do. The manual is clear and easy to understand. I was up and running in no time with no problems. I can't speak highly enough of this product. If you are a non-techie, like I am, have no fear - it will accomplish all you need and in no time at all. Amazing and perfect!
Impressive product!.......2007-05-30
I have wanted for years to convert my old LPs and reel-to-reel tapes to digital format, but always thought the process sounded too cumbersome. The Xitel INport Deluxe is as easy as it claims to be. Just run the included cables from the receiver line out jacks to the computer USB port and start the source. There are some initial settings (regarding sound level and distortion, etc.) to make, but the enclosed short manual walks you through those in 5-7 minutes. I am extremely pleased with this product, and am glad to have my music easily available again.

I found this product to live up to the expectations set by others' reviews and the manufacturer's claims. The hardware was very simple to connect, and the software was also simple, intuitive, bug-free, and bottom-line, produced some very good recordings. I enjoyed the "trimming" process (setting breaks in tracks), and recommend that for recording engineer wannabes. On better quality tapes that I was converting the auto tracking system required almost no editing. I haven't tried it on albums yet, but I expect that this system will perform very well there. My only concern was that my stereo components didn't have the same configuration as the standards listed in the manual and online help. It took a few different attempts to get a workable connection. I would have appreciated a bit more support on this question, but it wasn't critical.
Truly Professional Quality.......2006-11-01
Every day I work with a 17,000 watt sound system in a planetarium theater. Due to the power of the system and the dynamics of the dome shape it can take a lot of work to get audio that sounds nice and clean in there. For years we've been relying on DAT tapes, but we were hoping to move to computerized audio, and the INport has finally solved our problem. It finally allows us to move data off our old DAT tapes (not to mention reel-to-reel, cassette tapes, CDs and LPs) with beautiful fidelity, and elminate the buzz and hum it can pick up moving through our soundboard. It's great to finally have a solution to this problem! Xitel can rest happy knowing they made a product that's useful in a professional audio-engineering environment.
As for their software, I tried it a little bit, but it didn't have all the functionality I wanted. I used the freeware Audacity instead. Just set it to use the INput as the line-in and it made the work much easier.
If you're an amateur looking for the hardware you need to move sound off your old audio sources, or a professional who needs to preserve fidelity on digital tranfers, INport is the best product I've ever worked with for these purposes.
Obsolete Software.......2006-04-24
I purchased this hardware/software package March 21, 6003. I quickly learned it's obsolete. The recording and ripping went fine, although it took a while to become accustomed to the best way to do it. The input via USB is a great idea compared to going through your soundcard. Afterward, the fun began. In my manual, written with a type size that almost requires a magnifying glass, it said that I should go to a CFB software link (the software developer) to download a free encoder so that I could convert the wave files to MP3. No luck, no such thing exists. Instead, I was told that the software (3 weeks old) needs upgrading to Version 8 which includes the encoder and costs another $50, at a discount for recent buyers. Big deal! When I wrote to the company in Australia pointing out that reputable companies upgrade newly purchased software for free, they essentially told me too bad. On top of it all, this software contains no means for removing pops and clicks from records or tapes as my old Pinnacle/Steinberg software did.
I'm now annoyed at both Xitel (the manufacturer) and Amazon for selling obsolete stuff and probably will never use Amazon again.
What a ripoff! A good idea turned into a partial program, expensive but not complete. If I had bought at my local Frys, I could have returned for the new edition within 30 days. Thanks for nothing.
what I've been looking for.......2006-03-09
This is software I have been looking for. Finally I can get rid of all those LP's and have the music on CD's. The software loads great and I had no difficulties. The instructions are a bit skimpy and some of the pictures don't match what I saw on my Windows XP. I was able to figure it out but had one problem with the LP ripper and sent off an e-mail to the outfit in Australia who is supposedly responsible for the software. Tht was over two weeks ago and I have yet to hear from them. Luckily I worked it out on my own but if you have REAL problems forget help from that bunch. If it weren't for them I would give the product a 5.

"I take great pride in my responsiveness to technical support queries. I have searched my email records and only found the following message from you,which, as you can see, I replied to in less than 30 minutes!
I'm sorry that you did not receive a reply to your first message regarding LP Ripper. Any problem was likely to be due to a unknown problem with the Internet / email systems at either your end or mine. It certainly was not due to a lack of response from me. I would appreciate it if you could modify your comments on Amazon accordingly as I feel it could cause unwarranted damage to my business.
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. THE RESPONSE WAS STUCK IN THE INTERNET AND I HAVE MODIFIED MY COMMENT.

INPort performs exactly as advertised. It's simple to set up and the software is very user friendly -- provided you read the clear and understandable directions. The supplied 30 foot cable probably costs more than the actual device, but unless you keep your computer in the same rack as your stereo equipment, the long cable is necessary, so you'll be happy to have it. I've got hours of old audio tapes that I am now transferring to CDs thanks to this great device. My $65 was well spent on this product.
