Bad receiption, can't move your head, high pitch noises.......2005-10-11

I read the review, still thought to give a try as it was cheap. However after using it I returned it in a week. Amazon was good to take back the product without the shipping charge.

This product gives lots of noise, it will be worse if you move your head even one inch. Sometime those noise are high pitch noise, which really annoy someone, who want to concentrate for work, while avoiding outside noise.

I actually took this product for my work place, where I want to do coding without outside disturbance by putting some slow instrumental song. It didn't work out, I was sitting only 3-4 feet away from the transmitter, I even tried retuning many many times.

They have given one extra battery for headphone, that sits in the base station, behind the antenna.

I've owned a pair of older Sennheiser headphones for many years but wore them out over time. I was satisfied with them but these new ones are so much better in all ways. Better sound including simulated surround, better fit, better wireless and way better battery life plus an extra battery always charged and ready to go! Way cool wifi headphones! The wife never knows I'm listening to TV late at night because there is little or no sound leakage. Love Amazon and their delivery. One click shopping, it's great!

Plastic pivot axes were broken after about 1 year of occasional usage. But sound is still there, range is satisfactory (not 300 feet as advertised, but sufficient for a regular house, 50 feet). Rechargable battery still works after 4-5 years no replacement, but capacity has dropped and need recharging every 2h.

Because it still works I gave 2 stars. Otherwise construction is very poor. It will certainly break on you even if you do not abuse them at all. First ear peace was broken after 6 month. I fixed it with duct tape, but it did not last. So I put a metal bracket (from used computer slots) and taped both peaces. Looks ugly and bulky, but it works for last 3 years. After about one year second ear peace was broken I fixed it (you guess) same way.

I doubt this product has ever passed ANY quality control. Buy only if you have spare metal brackets and know how to tape it.

Poor Right Out of the BOX!.......2005-02-20

After reading the variety of reviews on Amazon I still went ahead and bought a pair. What a mistake! First I waited 24 hours for the batteries to charge, a little long bey hey, I waited patiently. Next, the base unit wouldn't turn on. Instruction said the base unit automatically turns on when the headphones are turned on. Nope. I had to unplug the base unit and plug back in to turn it on. Next, they a constant low level hissing...on every channel. And don't change headphone channels with them on your ears or you get a very LOUD popping noise. And the grand finale was they automatically shut off every 3-5 minutes. Packing them up tomorrow and shipin em back...

Wireless Headphones.......2007-02-02

Pros: Very comfortable for extended listening. Excellent to outstanding sound quality. Excellent operation, when in same area of transmitter. Spare battery, so a charged one is always ready. Excellent product support.

Cons: Rating of 100 - 300 ft reception (one important consideration in purchase) may be possible; however, in my situation it isn't there. With the transmitter located in my den (lower level) clipping occurs in the upper rooms less than 35 - 50 ft away. Reception is problematic, also, outdoors - again, less than 50 feet from the transmitter. Reception depends largely on your homes construction, obstacles between the transmitter and headphones, other devices operating on the same frequency - so, wearing these boys while mowing the lawn just isn't going to be a pleasant experience.

Construction is adequate, if the phones are handled somewhat carefully. The area where the ear pieces are attached and allow them to swivel is the weak link. This area is really small for the task and one broke from the simple act of putting them on and taking them off. That's why I can comment on the company's product support, they replaced them sans any charge.

Price. Fairly high, especially if the range is a primary factor. In my case, only able to use these phones while in the same area as the transmitter, I probably could have made a cheaper choice and received comparable results.

Not perfect but way better than many reviews!.......2005-12-08

Given the wide range of user review scores I was really anxious to see how well this product performed. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality for wireless headphones. When you are in the same room there is no static and usually in close by rooms there is very little either. But the further you go the more you get static that sounds like someone saying "shhhh" which is not too annoying.
I made sure that I plugged the power supply into a good surge suppressor with EMI and RFI filtering and have found no interferance from other sources at all.
So far I mostly have used the headphones for listening to my PolkAudio XM component receiver which requires a south facing window for the antenna. What a great combo! Great sounding XM anywhere in the house.
Like so many reviewers have said, these headphones are to be treated carefully due to their lightweight plastic construction. And the over the ear cups are a bit small but serve to hold the phones on very securely and still comfortably. Overall, I am (so far) very pleased with this purchase.

Good enough to buy another!.......2005-10-11

I bought my first pair of these Sennheiser headphones so that I could watch HiDef/DVD in bed while my wife went to sleep. It's not my first experience with wireless, but the best to date.
Good enough that I've ordered a second pair for use in another room.

And it's actually my third set because the first pair I bought was a gift for someone who allowed me to try them out for a few days. That was enough to convince me.

I've previously used other Sennheiser professional gear. In some cases in the past I found the sound satisfying but the ergonomics less so, i.e. an earlier set of noise suppressors worked wonderfully but were awkward to carry on a plane. And I've tried a variety of other wireless headphones of assorted major brands. These are the best to date. No they don't quite measure up to wired very high end headsets, but they're pretty darned good. Signal carries from one room of a largish house to another with very few artifacts, also much superior to other wireless phones tried.

I can't explain people who cite almost immediate failure. They are well made.

Acceptable while it lasted, but..........2005-09-26

No wireless headphone is ever going to sound like a good direct wired headphone. I knew that going in, and I found the sound quality acceptable. Not up to a good direct wired headphone, but pretty good in the context of a wireless headphone. Wireless range is somewhat limited, I was not able to get a noise free signal in all the rooms of my house. All that would have satisfied my wireless expectations but...

The darn thing crapped out after a few months. This unit is not up to Sennheiser's usual quality. I'm sorry I wasted my money on it.

These headphones were defective and I had to return them. For the 10 minutes they worked, they sounded great.

I have two pair of wireless headphones. Both are different model Sennheiser. Both are outstanding. The transmitter also has a slot to recharge a second battery and the transmitter will also charge the headphone battery in the headphones when the headphones are placed in the transmitter. The battery is very easy to replace. Just snap it in and out. No tools required. One battery charge last approximately 4 hours of continuous listening. These are the lightest wireless headphones I could find and very comfortable. I use them mainly with a TV and can receive reception from one end of the house to the other. You can use more than one set of headphones with one transmitter so if you need two headphones no need to buy a second transmitter. Be sure and buy a second battery. These are not regular type batteries. Volume can be adjusted on the headphones and there are several frequency channels to choose from for clear reception. Also an on/off switch on the headphones. When not using them be sure and turn switch off to preserve battery time. Great headphones. My wife does not have to listen to my ball games!

I love my TV.......2006-11-10

We actually purchased ours from WalMart but paid the same price. I was scared after coming on here to read the reviews, it seemed like it was 50/50. We have had the set for almost 6 months now and we havent had a single problem with it. It has been awesome watching movies, we went from a 27 inch to this size. I love the look and clarity of the picture. I purchased a platform stand for ours, because it seemed to be viewed better for us a few inches higher. So far so good, and we are happy with the purchase.

I have had my RCA D40W20 for 2 years and it has performed flawlessly! Great HD picture not too bad with SD either. Sounds like I must have received the only working unit! Mine too came from Dishnetwork as a give away for buying their HD-DVR. No complaints with my RCA HDTV. Now, if you want to talk about Dishnetwork, I have many there...

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!.......2006-05-31

We bought this thinking it would be great.......After 4 months the hdvi and component inputs would not work, then no picture at all. TV repairman got here quickly, wish i could say the same for the part that needs replaced. Thomson/RCA customer service doesn't care...told me the part will get there when it gets there. Four weeks now and earliest delivery date is still 2 weeks away. Thomson/RCA customer service said they would get in touch with me after a global search for the part was conducted, that was 8 days ago. Turns out this is a huge problem for this TV. I've talked to 4 other people, all had the same problem. Save your money and yourself try and find a different HDTV.

The worst service ever!.......2006-03-05

I bought mine as a private label from Dish Network.
It developed a hum through the speakers in about 2 months after purchase.
I had to fight with Dish for repairs. First trip, wrong part. Service tech re assembled with old part, then no sound. 2 months later another service with "right" part. Board was installed, no sound. Reinstalled old board, no sound.
Tompson customer service was awfull, they told me to file a complaint against them.
Finally got them to take the set back, and replace with another.
It was a low price, and worth every penny of it.
Buyer beware, don't get this set!

Will I end up giving up the quality for the price???.......2006-01-02

Well, if you're reading this review, then it's probably because you're unsure about which TV to buy, or are unsure about weather or not you want to quote "give up the quality for the price." I know because I was in the same situation as you when I went out and bought this TV. I bought this TV about two years ago and it still has the same quality as when I bought it.

To be honest with you, this is not the exact model I bought. I bought the RCA D52W15B, but the only difference that I found when researching the two is that the D52W20 model has a protective screen over the actual screen and has a black strip at the bottom of the TV where as the RCA D52W15B doesn't have the protective screen and has a silver strip at the bottom instead. But what I have found with the protective screen coverings is that when there is light, the protective coating will reflect a glare when viewed at an angle. Without the protective coating, I can watch the T.V. with a 145° viewing range without any problems and still get a clear picture.

The picture quality on this HDTV is 1080i, which makes the viewing experience one that you and your guests will remember... that is if they don't have one themselves. ;) This TV seriously produces lifelike colors and clearly defined images. And along with the many picture enhancements, there is the scan velocity modulation for improved detail and auto convergence, which will keep the picture quality in focus. There are a lot more that I yet to have player around with, probably more than enough for the home theater experience.

One factor you need to take in to consideration when purchasing a DVD player if you plan to own this TV, is to make sure the DVD's quality will match up to the T.V. I don't recommend that you cheap out on the DVD player or you'll bring down the picture quality with it. The DVD player should at LEAST have component video outputs, and I recommend turning on progressive scan if the DVD player has it. Both the component video outputs and the progressive scan will really help increase the picture quality.

There are a lot of inputs that you can choose from to use. There is an antenna/cable input, two sets of standard A/V inputs, two S-video inputs, two sets of component video inputs, and a DVI-HDTV input. The inputs you should use to achieve the best picture quality are the component video inputs for the DVD player(s) and component or DVI-HDTV input for your cable or satellite. The other inputs seriously only decrease the picture quality from what it could be when it's at its best. Also you should keep in mind that when you use the component video inputs, that in order to use the inputs, that you have use component video cables. I recommend using the Monster Standard Cables, but I'm not saying you should buy the best ones they offer. I found some cheaper ones made by Monster Standard for around 20-40 dollars a cable, depending on length. (They sell ones at 120 to "who knows where" dollars a cable too)

As for the construction of this television, I found it to be quite durable and well designed. It might have a thin screen, but the screen or picture quality didn't get damaged when I took a slight fall into the main screen. What a scare for me... I freaked, but all was well... luckily. It was a slight accident I encountered when setting up our surround sound system. But don't try it... I wouldn't take the risk if I were you, and really wish that that hadn't happened. As for the plastic casing, which looks really slick, is also really durable. It might look thin, but its really well made.

One of the drawbacks that I noticed was that the picture quality seemed to decrease when I went from my DVD video inputs to my cable T.V. inputs, which I noticed a quite of my friends TV's did as well. After a bit of research, I learned that for this TV, if you don't have an HD receiver, this set will display 480p, but you can purchase an HD receiver, and then the content can be viewed in 1,080i. Quick fix really. But also keep in mind when viewing any station, that not all the stations have switched over to HDTV, so some, actually most, will not meet the best quality that this TV will produce.

There are a lot of screen choices that you can chose from other than the 16:9 format that the display is. But when the T.V. is in the standard format, 4:3, there are gray bars on the sides that are annoying. In order to enhance the picture quality, they should make them black to make the picture stand out more than the bars. Most wide screen TV's come with black bars.

Overall, I'm really happy with this TV. It's definitely worth the money to buy it. I would say on a five star rating scale I would give this TV a 4.30.
