CONS - 1. Donot have still capability as there are no SD/MMC
memory attachment.

I would give it three and a half stars.
Showing an indoor and outdoor movies from this camera on a 27 inch TV I didn't hear complaints about the image quality, but I should note the cons and pros.

Cons: this is not a high-end model. The image quality is worse, than from Sony. The indoor picture is grainy (the less light - the more grainy) and darker, than from Sony. Viewfinder is tiny and very blurry. It gets crisp only if you are 3 inches away from the camera. You will have to use only the LCD. Half of a second after you zoom in, the picture is blurry, untill the camera focuses. You notice barrel distortion at wide angle on the picture. The colors seem to be colder and less rich than they are indeed. When a source of bright light is in the picture together with darker areas, Sony performs better.

Pros: The outdoor image quality and indoor with sufficient light is, well, acseptable. Small size and weight - you can always take it with you. It has 10 times optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD screen for viewing what you are filming. Less expensive than many other brands and models.

Best digital camcorder of it's class/feature level.........2003-06-12

Would have been a 5, but see the pro/con list for why not. I am thrilled with the camera. Excellent video, Brand and performance are Sharp, indeed. For the features and video quality it has, the price is simply not been met by any other. This was compared to the base Sony ( pricey ) and Panasonic ( poor color reproduction ) models in the small cube compact category. It was 100-200 bucks less than those, and equalled or outperformed them. Simply a great accomplishment by Sharp. The video is beautiful, the LCD is simply outstanding and best I have seen. It is a top loader! Has the Analog to digital conversion ports that the higher priced competition doesn't have. Swivel body design is ingenious. Less than perfect is the menu system, and the somewhat clumsy controls for it. Extended life battery is not an option as the battery mounts INSIDE, behind the LCD when closed. You will want a second battery!! Final negative, the battery charges in camera. It would have been nice to have a seperate charger considering the battery situation stated above. PROs: Swivel body feature really handy, GREAT video, has Analog to Digital conversion ability not found on more expensive competition, superb LCD, TOPLOADER! excellent price/value.
Cons: Battery capacity restricted by internal mounting and no seperate charger to offset this, clumsy menu/controls - but workable, no external mic input.

WOW!!.......2003-06-10

Being new to the world of digital video cameras, I can only say that I am very happy with this camera. Although it is packed with features that you can adjust manually, I found the automatic focus, light adjustment, etc., are extremely good. The zoom, even without digital enhancement, is powerful and fast. Playback is clear and easy to control. The size is perfect -- very small, very light. Good battery life. It works very well under low-light conditions. The only drawback is that it does not come with a cable to connect it to your computer (it will connect with Fire-Wire). It does come with the cable to hook it to your VCR or TV. One feature that a friend commented on was the view-screen that folds in, reducing the finger-prints on the screen (his screen in on the back of his camera). We all love this camera -- it is simple and seems pretty [easy to operate].

Use it as an access point..........2007-06-23

I used to like Netgear. Great products with excellent design.
But, after moving to VoIP we need a stable firewall/router, one that just works w/o any questions or hickups.
The WGB511 I tried meet those (simple) demands. It sort of "hung" unexplainably when you most needed it. A switch to another WGB511 and later an upgrade to a newer version of WGB511 did not help.
It seemed to happen the same time Netgear went for more "design" and consumer product orientation, leaving their stoic, but realiable, blue metal boxes behind.

I eventually put the Linksys that vonage had provided at the "entry", replacing the Netgear, and it has been running now for over 2 years w/o any issues.
However, the Netgear works great as an accesspoint where reliability is not as important, but I tend to use WiFi as little as I can since the house is fully wired.

Sometimes it works, some times it doesn't........2007-03-24

When the router is working, it works beautifully. It seems that the router will eventually just stop allowing connections (possibly due to overheating). The fix is to just turn it off and back on. The wireless card bundled with the router also seems to be a little finicky. You would think that the card would work perfectly with the router, but it does not. The software that comes with the wireless card isn't great, but it can do the job. All in all, you get what you pay for.

I've always had issues with this product since I bought it on Amazon. I've updated the firmwares for both the router and the card but the problems persist.

The problems are inconsistent internet connection. Its easy to isolate since I can connect my workstation directly to the router/modem. And when I do, my connection is normal

I've since travelled a lot and didn't have time to give this back ...

Be warned.

Good sound quality, dysfunctional and oddly unique headphones, NOT recommended........2007-09-21

I've had these headphones for about a year now. The cord and earbuds are still in good condition, except the connector thing is slightly jagged so I have to put it in slightly weird. I am impressed by the sound quality. Everything is so vibrant. It takes a while to get used to the sound, the sound may not be what the typical person is used to. Don't be fooled by "virtual surround sound." I think it's just a fancy name. My biggest concern is the comfort. The rubber ear plug things that attach to the heads are dysfunctional, so I wear the headphones without it, except they heads are so large it takes a while to find that snug place. The edge of the head is hard and rubs against the side of the ear. I like how the headphones wrap around the side and behind the neck, they tend to get less in the way unless you're sharing one ear with another person.

I don't use my Philips headphones anymore. They are broken and they weren't too comfortable to begin with. I do not recommend these headphones.

Worst Headphones Ever.......2007-06-25

If you, painfully, jam the Philips HE592 Surround Sound Ear Buds in your ear well enough to use them, (until they fall out) they don't sound bad.

Philips may have been testing a new torture device, when they came up with these ear buds.

The main cable divides (as usual) into the right and left sides. However with the Philips HE592 Surround Sound Ear Buds the cables are thin / whimpy and one is much longer than the other. It Does Not Work, to have one side longer than the other. I guess they figured it would be better to have all the weight of the main cable to be on one side (hanging on one uncomfortable ear bud) and have the longer ear bud wrap it's thin / whimpy cable around your head.

Another horrible idea that Philips had was to make the plastic part that goes in your ear canal a perfect cylinder. (Your ear canal is not a cylinder.) The part also has a 90 deg edge on it. So, although the part is covered in a plastic/rubber piece, the headphones hurt and will not stay in your ear, No Matter What. They fall out constantly. (Even when you're just sitting there.)

Ridiculously uncomfortable, and bad sound.......2007-06-18

Steer clear of these terrible earphones.

They have to be the most uncomfortable I have ever used. I can't use them for more than 20 minutes without my ears aching. That's if they manage to stay in that long - any slight movement and they fall out. The large round silver part prevents them from fitting into the ears properly. What size ears are they made for?

The sound quality is mediocre, and the case is impossible to figure out! How this terrible product ever got past QA and into production I will never know

I've had them 2 days and I'm going to try as hard as I can to get my money back. My ears are sore!

excellent for the price....and so comfy too!!.......2007-05-21

A few months ago I purchased these from the FYE near my house. When I put them in my ears, they not only sounded great, but they actually stayed in my ears. Every other pair of headphones/earbuds not only move around but they hurt my ears as well. These can stay in my ears for hours at a time and not hurt when I take them out. In fact, I sometimes have to pop my ears from the suction it causes from time to time. Guess that's why they stay where they belong.

Now as for the sound quality, these little things sound just as good as an expensive pair of professional headphones. I thought about buying the $100 bose headphones that seem to be advertised on every single corner but thought better of it. Glad that I didn't . These sound so much better. The bass, treble and midrange all sound wonderful. No distortion when you turn up the volume either. Certainly the best pair of headphones that I have bought. Just do yourself a favor. Put a little glue on the rubber so that they don't fall out. Not like they do, but just in case they do. These do come with two extra pieces of rubber incase they fall out. Enjoy these!

Fantastic for the price.......2007-05-17

The sound that these ear buds produce is excellent. I own a pair of NHT speakers and I think I can tell good sound from ok or bad sound. They are definitely way better than the head phones that come with the ipod and the creative zen players.
They are well worth the price and enhance the sound from your mp3 players in a big big way. The other reviews complained about the way they fit into your ears but that is only because these have to be fitted into the ear in a particular way.

Not Bad.......2000-12-11

Picture quality is good, loud & sensitive mono sound, easy and not too heavy (about 2 lbs with battery), not too big size for travelling (about 4.5 x 5 x 11 inches). STANDARD BATTERY that came with this camera works 2 hours for B&W viewfinder recording 50 minutes with color LCD recording. If you play black a lot on the LCD (I like to do that), this battery will last about 30 minutes, charging time is about 1 hour. Option batteries are available, and I think I should have one.

Night shot and super night shot movies is just like in a horror movies, every things look faded-green or B&W and people has silver eyes, well, at least I can see the objects (I shot in total darkness). The battery consuming is higher with the night shorts. By the way that tiny built-in light is useless. Remote seems to be useful for the play back only, hardly used at all. I love the multivotage adapter that came with the camera, I wish Sony adds the PAL playback too incase of travelling to Europe and Asia (Hitachi has this feature).

Photo effects are not very useful but programe AE are good and easy, however the icons of programe AE are very tiny, quite difficult to figure out what programes am I on (my eyes are getting old). Every one looks good on that small color LCD, however in the strong day light it is very difficult to see that screen, the manual recommend to use the B&W viewfinder instead. Multilanguage titles with custom setting options.

If you live a hi-tech life, do not buy this cam. because the output is only A/V (2 jacks), no s-video connection, so it's not working with my TV-video capture card in the computer (I use Avermedia product), I heard that it might work on pinnacle system, but did not try it yet. I think I might be able to connect it through the VCR which has A/V connector and can be connected to my TV card, however this attempt hasn't been succesful.

The accesories price are quite expensive (i.e. separate battery chargers, spare batteries, filters, car battery adapter) espectially if you buy them direct from sony....

Exceeds expectations.......2000-11-23

I just received this today and I'm very excited about this camera. It comes complete with bag (in primary colors), strap for camera, A/V cable, remote, batteries for remote, AC adaptor, and rechargable battery pack. Only thing you need to buy is the 8mm tape. Well worth the money considering you don't have to buy the extras. This camera will help make some memorable holiday moments last forever.

I'll keep this short and sweet. What a great camera! The price is right for this Sony model. It has all the features you'd want and a low price. First and foremost, the image and sound quality are very good. The swivel LCD is incredibly convenient, the image stabilization is great, and the night-shot is a great add-on.

Frankly, for the average consumer who needs a good camera at a good price, this is the perfect product!

A GREAT purchase!.......2000-10-23

This is a very good camcorder! You really can't go wrong with this one. Its very easy to use and no setup is required. The batteries last forever (well maybe not forever) and you can get alot done with out having to recharge. It has a wonderful steady shot feature which removes some of the shaking your hands make when you are shooting. It also has other great features. It has a 20x optical zoom (the lens actually moving) and a 360x digital zoom (the camera enlarging the picture), It is Control-L (LANC)compatible (which is similar to Panasonics 5-pin control system), so you can edit directly from the camcorder (if you plan on using a computer to edit), an LCD is attached to the side (you know, the screen that pops out), but it also has one of Sony's best features, the 0 LUX Nightshot. This enables you to film in TOTAL darkness. Its a wonderful feature. This camera is alot of fun, its light weight, and has rather good quality (but is nothing compared to MiniDV or Digital8). If you want a good 8mm camera, and don't want to sell the farm, this is it. If you want really good quality and want to edit on your new iMac, get a MiniDV camera or a Digital8. Keep in mind, you can still edit on a computer using a video capture card (a new one is comming out soon from 3dfx www.3dfx.com). So this is a purchase you shall benefit from. I STRONGLY suggest this purchase.

Item was expensive compared to similar items, but probably worth it as it works excellently. The instructions are simple and easy to understand, and the display is concise and clear. I would again pay the price for this product and am very pleased with my purchase.

HOW DO YOU RESET THE LANGUAGE OPTION?.......2004-03-02

I bought several of these since they were inexpensive, although they EAT batteries. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the instructions for setting the language (which you must re-do after changing the batteries). Can anyone out there help me with this? Thanks!

Hard to Read.......2002-09-16

Quite simply, this caller ID display is too hard to read from any angle EVEN if it has brand new batteries in it, AND the contrast is turned up all the way. The display is just too dim. Save your money and don't buy this one.

Passable product, sham warranty.......2002-05-13

As with most budget-priced caller ID boxes these days, the display is seriously lacking in contrast, and harder to read than boxes made a decade ago. The contrast control, with about 20 settings, gives you the choice of a too-dark background (showing all 8's) or a too-light foreground. The unit comes with a non-detachable cord, denying you the option of locating the box far away from the jack using a longer cord. The 1-year warranty is nonsense because you must pre-pay a "shipping and handling" charge almost equal to the price of the unit. I wish manufacturers would spend an extra nickel to add two more wires to the feed-through, which would make it possible to use a 2-line phone (although with caller ID only on line 1). Another nice feature would be a way to delete all calls from a specific number simultaneously. Without these features, this Southwestern Bell unit performs its basic function adequately, though not superbly.
