I do not recommend this phone due to problems with the handset. I have had it for a few years and problems have gotten progressively worse to the point the phone is practically unusable. In particular the Talk button is extremely difficult to activate when you are turning the phone on or trying to answer a call. It takes several attempts to get it to work. The number buttons are real touchy too making it difficult to dial. You also have to be careful to get the connection right when returning it to the cradle, it can be tricky to get it situated right. I purchased a new phone to replace this one today, it is just way more trouble than it's worth. Don't bother to buy this, it's overpriced and not reliable. Just about anything would probably be better than this!

I bought a Gigaset 2420 2 line cordless phone from Siemens two years ago and have had endless problems with the 3 handsets that I have for the system. My problems started soon after the purchase. I turned one off and it wouldn't turn on again when the power button was pressed. I dropped another one soon after a VERY VERY short distance and it went dead.
I called Siemens to see about getting replacements since I was still in warranty and was told that the Gigaset 2420 was a new product and they didn't have their replacement process setup yet and I should call back sometime in the future. What the...! So, I replaced those two handsets with my own money. And then the buttons slowly started failing on two of the handsets that I use most often. I had to press the number buttons a certain way to get them to work. It was a major pain when dialing a number.
I called the support center again. I'd had the phone for 13 or so months at that point. The support people told me that they'd had a lot of problems with the durability of the handsets. They acknowledged reported cases where the phone had been turned off and would not turn back on. They didn't seem too surprised about my buttons failing. They offered to replace my current handsets with refurbished ones.
That was about a year ago. In the last few months I noticed the buttons are failing again on the 2 main handsets. It?s getting harder and harder to dial a number. One of the handsets also seems to have a worsening reception problem that sounds like I'm getting interference from a microwave but that's not it. The other handsets don't have this problem.
I called the support group the other day and was told that my product was out of warranty since I'd had it for 2 years. I told them that I respect warranties but this is a defect problem. I expect a handset to last longer than one year before it starts to fail. They told me to basically take a hike. I moved up the ladder looking for someone that would even care to listen to my story but all I got was the company line that they had no authority to authorize a replacement out of warranty.
So, I'm now posting my experience everywhere on the web that I can find. Letting people know that Siemens does not make quality phone handsets and they don't stand behind their product. Does this apply to all the handsets on all Siemens cordless phones? Don?t know - but I wouldn?t buy another Siemens phone to find out. My advice is to NOT buy from Siemens and instead buy from one of their competitors.

I too suffered static by the Microwave. Noticeable especially in the Kitchen while heating up supper, tea etc. Sometime I have to walk 50 feet away to get away from the static. I would not recommend this phone. My first experience with 2.4's. Not a good one.

I've had this phone for about a year. Its been pretty dependable and even survived several drops on the floor. Unfortunately call quality goes in the tank when using it while running the microwave. Also it seems incredibly difficult to get a replacement battery for this phone. [Several retailers] don't carry the battery. Even the [manufacturer's] website doesn't appear to carry it. What a pain! Do yourself a favor, buy a different phone.

It's beautiful, easy to use, and sounds great while you're using it... but on other end of the line it SOUNDS AWFUL!!!

I can't even walk down the street in these without them falling out of my ears. No matter how hard I jam them in there, or how many different ways I try to move them around they don't fit in my ear

The rubber inserts broke after a couple months. The real stinker is that they never sounded good anyway. The sound is "airey" and they are quite loud, but lack bottom end in a big way. I've used probably a dozen earbuds over my life and these sounded the worst. Sound is a relative thing, but I'd look on if you're considering these buds.

Maybe it was just my pair, but I have owned these headphones for just over a year. I was very satisfied with them, although it did take a few days to get used to. I have never owned an iPod, but after trying somebody's iPod headphones on, you really gain an appreciation for these headphones. I can't place iPod headphones into my ear the way I can these headphones. Thus, these headphones really feel like they're in my ear and I really do feel like I am getting good sound quality. Also, I can turn the volume much lower on my CD player and still get a loud enough volume. With my prior, conventional headphones, I had the volume up higher, but like iPod headphones that aren't all the way in your ear, the music is very audible to others around you. It may be just a pet peeve of mine, but it's annoying when others play their music so loud. With these headphones, you don't have to be one of those people.
I'm not too sure about the surround sound aspect, though. The sound quality is also good, but I would say that the sound is different than compared to other headphones I've had. That may be where others cite the problems with bass and treble. Bass seems fine to me, while treble is a bit of an issue. It's all still manageable. This also comes with a disc thingy that holds the headphones in a smaller area, and it's pretty easy to wrap it around and place the earbuds in properly.
That being said, it would seem like a great product. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review more to report that the left earbud is starting to go out. I didn't even use it that much the past year, and finally when I'm starting to use it more frequently, it just breaks. This is normal usage; no jogging, no abuse (not that jogging would necessarily make them go bad, anyway). There really is no explanation for it, and now I have to buy a new pair of headphones. It's rather ridiculous because I can't figure out why. I think the sound quality comes from the connector being gold-plated, but there really was no reason for it to break. I am very disappointed to have only owned these for a year.
If it wasn't the fact that they broke (had I lost them instead of them breaking, for example), I'd buy another set of these headphones. Unfortunately, I won't be. I don't think $20 is worth it breaking in just one year. I want to give this two stars, but the fact is that these are decent earbuds; certainly much better than the iPod earbuds. The comfort alone would make me want to buy these again. It seems, though, that my earbuds breaking is more of an isolated cause, as I haven't read any other reviews of that happening. That said, if you take into consideration my case, you could still get a good year out of these. And if you think $20 for one year of good sound quality and comfort is worth it, then I would recommend these. Just beware of the possibility of it not working after a year.

Never go for Brand Name.......2005-11-02
I bought CCDTRV318 for about 18 months and the camera has performed very well. Just 2 weks ago suddenly it didn't work after 5 months of last use.The picture on the LCD screen and in the viewfinder was all blurry and distorted. The picture is getting clear little bit after half hour. I tried changing every setting and every adjustment I could think of. I couldn't fix it.
I did not buy warranties so I don't know where to go and how much is going to repair.
I bought canon Digital 8 camcorder 6 months ago to give present to my friend. Its working really nice. I think there is nothing in name brand. I would prefer small brand with warranties.

So, I took it to the local Geek Squad and they sent it out for analysis. The result? Sony would have to replace the CCD and other gizmos for a total of $196! After 18 months.
No, I did not buy warranties or anything - c'mon be serious.
So my question: do I spend $200 for repairs? Do I buy a new camera for $300-$400? Should I buy a Sony ever again?
I'm off to try to wrangle Sony customer support and perhaps will post the results of that wrangling here.
EDIT UPDATE: Sony ended up fixing this for NO charge and now it works like a champ. If I could I'd change my review to 4 stars now.
Horrible for a restored product!!!.......2005-09-12
I purchased this "factory restored" camera and it was very dissappointing! The focus is terrible. There are only two spots with the zoom that are actually in focus. Even when it is zoomed all the way out it is blurry. I just had my first child and I bought this to record his first years and because of this camera I have already missed recording two months! This was such a waste of money!!!!!

it is such an awesum camcorder with great quality and wonderful zoom.
The sound does not go up very high when you listen to recordings strait from the camcorder and it is a PAIN to try to plug it into the television BUT... other than those 2 minor problems this camcorder is THE BEST!!!

I really believe this is the best camcorder.It is very cheap and really easy to use. I'm 14 and I just used it to film my spring break and I still haven't even touched the instructions, if I can use this camcorder anybody can. I highly recommend buying this camera it has so many features like nightshot, steadyshot,a really powerful zoom, a really long battery life, and many more. It can even play back those old 8mm tapes you have lying in your closet. So if your looking for your 1st video camera or a camera to bring on all of family vacations this is the camera for you.

Easy to use but some serious flaws.......2005-11-12
This is my 2nd Mp3 player. My first is a San Disk Mp3 Companion which worked fine but has some of the same problems as this one. First this unit does sound good and the addition of the FM tuner and the Voice recorder is a nice touch. If you buy this for Mp3 listening, you need to realize there are limitations. My biggest problem is getting a playlist to work or even get an album to play in proper order. Here is an example of the order I have saved in Windows:

The limitations are frustrating and Philips customer service is a joke. I talked to 5 different people last weekend all giving me dead end solutions. Some reps were giving info that was contradicting other reps. One said this unit doesn't support playlists, yet the product manual decribes a step by step process (that doesn't work at all by the way)to create a playlist under Music Match software. The most laughable was a rep said keep checking on their website for firmware upgrades, since they are always coming out with new updates. Last upgrade was August 2004!!! Over a year ago!!! Looks like they aborted this baby...
Extremely inconvenient & horrible!!!.......2005-10-25
I had no problem getting songs on this player. Just used drag & drop in Windows Explorer. I never even installed the software they included. It even shows the extra memory as a separate drive, so it was no problem to divide the music up.
My problems with this...
#1 In Mp3 mode, it eats up the battery fast. I go through a battery in one day. Gets expensive fast.
#2 The battery will show 2/3 charge left, but the player will just stop. It won't restart without a new battery.
#3 The main button to go forward, back, change radio stations etc is extremely unresponsive. You have to hit the button 2 or more times to get it to do what you want. Try doing this on a treadmill!
I wasted over $100 on this and am now looking at other, better MP3 players. Don't waste your money.
Surprising performance.......2005-04-24
This unit has surprisingly good features for the discounted price that I paid (sub-$100). Decent audio, light weight, acceptable supplied earbuds, and handy neckstrap + armband made a good package. Pluses are that it can be used to hold data files as well as mp3 as a mass storage device. Also, the FM tuner is pretty good.
128 MB SD card limitation DOES NOT apply on my unit, however it is not explained how to make it function with larger cards. Simply hold the center button down until the unit powers up! For the supplied 128MB card it only takes a couple of seconds, but, for a 1GB card, it takes up to 8 seconds or so, but it will work if you are patient. My guess is that the player has to build a database of files on the card before powering up completely, and the processor is a little slow. 1.128 GB of storage gives a lot of files to listen to during the day.
Cons are that the batteries do not last more than about 10 hours if it includes time consumed by much moving of data to/from the unit with the USB transfer. Also, the latch that keeps the back cover on does not seem to hold too tightly, but I have not had a problem with it, yet.
Durable, uncomplicated.......2005-02-22
Good, durable MP3 player. Center button is easy to use, makes things very simple to move through. Nice display as well. Great for those workouts.

I had this music player before, and I have to admit, it's pathetic. The "256MB" it supposedly has on the player is only 128MB. The reason I do not like it is because it had erased all of my music when I didn't even do anything to it.
