This is a REALLY bad product.......2004-03-17
Tech support was completely clueless, as many others have reported. They gave me the distinct impression that they had no training whatsoever, and were just reading the manual back to me from a screen.

2 strikes and your out.......2003-11-03
The FIRST one I bought, after about 2 weeks, it started acting up, looking like it reset itself, but when that happened, no private machines could hit the public side. Needed a power-cycle to fix about every 8 hours. If I let it go on like that long enough (like overnight whilst sleeping--I know, what good sysadmin ever sleeps right?? lol), it would blow the whole LAN AND WAN, public AND private and NONE of my servers would then be accessible from ANYWHERE.
So I called Siemens, they said go ahead and exchange it where I bought it, so I did.
So here is the second one. Running great up until last Friday (about 6 months or so) when we had a power failure that was long enough to drain all the UPS backups, and the computers shutdown fine and all.
When the power came back on, the Power and PrintAct lights were green and the Status and Print Err lights red, (no printer hooked up to the printserver port) and with any comps hooked up to the switch ports, it would just continually cycle the lights through each port. NO ACCESS between ANY machines.
So now Im back on the 701 till I can find a GOOD KNOWN name brand (D-link, Linksys or 3com($$$ouch$$$) that has 100 on BOTH sides.
BIC should buy Siemens and sell these things right along side their disposable razors and lighters. For $30, thats about what it is. I am NOT taking this one back. Im donating it to BFI for landfill use. The wall-wart power supply may come in handy somewhere though...lol

I've been using the Siemens/Efficient Networks SpeedStream 2623 for approximately a year with an Intel Anypoint wireless card. The results are somewhat mixed:
Prior to the most recent flash BIOS update, wireless connections the router would frequently and randomly lock up. This was not a factor of distance, and resetting the computer/wireless card would not always fix the problem. I have not had these problems since the most recent flash.
My experience with technical support isn't very positive, but seems relatively typical of the industry. They clearly go by a checklist and endeavor to trying to find point blame it on some other component of the network. Ultimately I was able to find an obscure technical note on their web site that described the same problem.
I could never get the printing functionality to work from Windows 2000. (9x wasn't a problem, however.) I stopped trying when I realized my particular printer model (HP970) has both serial and USB connectors which I connect into each machine.
Range varies -- usually I can work on the front or back porch, or anywhere within the house EXCEPT the kitchen -- a running microwave will kill the connection. Speed definitely drops off with distances or obstacles. With medium/40-bit encryption enabled, 25' and three walls away, I get about 140kbps.
Although I'm happy now, it shouldn't take nine months to work the bugs out of the system. I don't have comparables to ascertain how much wireless networking is overhyped, but feel this sort of box should be relatively easy for a moderately technical user to set up.

The Ford Taurus of "Industrial" Labelers.......2006-12-15
In general, I am happy with this label printer that I got for 90$ including shipping. I do electrical and low voltage so this unit is exactly what works for me.
I did find something really interesting that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere in the manual or on the company website. You can put the much more common (as in Walmart common) D1 type labels in the same printer as well as the more expensive RhinoPro 18xxx style labels. It's obvious they designed it for this purpose and I'm surprised they don't tell you this in the manual.
Unfortunate.......2006-05-22
-Larger printing on the polyester label stock is very hit-and-miss. Five attempts to address-label a mailbox using the 3/4" polyester ultimately failed, I had to substitute Nylon to have an appearance I could live with. I'm talking corrupted letter forms, partially inked letters. Perhaps the glossier surface of the polyester is problematic. But that's some expensive tape burned up.
-The entire one-piece heavy rubber surround enclosing the unit has to be peeled off to access the tape-cartridge compartment. Major design flaw. It doesn't come off easily, making tape changes a real pain, and removing it imperils the delicate tape-cutting lever. To think that highly paid designers with degrees come up with such things- baffling sometimes.
-No auto-sensing of tape in use. Instead, a tiny 3-position switch buried in the tape compartment must be manually adjusted whenever you switch sizes. If you forget, you'll be peeling that rubber surround again.
-Important symbols such as "#" and "*" (star) missing on this labeler (Dymo verified this reluctantly).
-Software errors such as parentheses printed backwards in XS size, ie. "[ ]" prints as "] [". I didn't look much further.
Look for auto tape-sensing, top load drop-in tape, and a full complement of symbols. The Brady ID Pal has all this with one drawback- a one-line text display. The Brother P-Touch has it too (not the top load) if you don't mind less robust construction, and the annoying 1 1/2" tape leader burned up on every label. The Brady ID Xpert cooks your dinner and does the dishes too, and priced accordingly.
