Dead after 1 year of lightly use. Symptoms same as described by Eric L. Carlson's comments. Two red light (Status and Print Error), port status led keep flashing.

I thought it was just me but i'm convinced otherwise after reading the reviews here.

Yesterday my (read "this") router broke down. The same way the others here (like Eric L Carson) etc reported. Two lights red. Two lights green.

The router does what it says, but it obviously comes with a lifespan which is only slightly longer than the warranty period. When i pay for something, i want it to work for at least a while beyond the warranty period (given that i take good care of it). This one obviously doesn't.

Now i have to go hunting for a new one...

Worked fine for a couple years.......2005-05-29

Worked fine for a couple years - a lot better than my previous (different brand) router - then a few days ago (May 2005), it just stopped working.

Now the Status and Print Err lights remain red (I never had a printer connected to it), and the Power and Print Act lights remain green, and any ports with computers connected just flash slowly. I tried holding in the reset button for a long time, and I even tried letting is sit completely unplugged for a few days, then resetting again, but it is still dead.

I have my router and cable modem connected to my UPS, and there were no power problems the day, so I don't think it was a power surge that caused it to die.

I see that one other person had this exact same problem. I would love to know what the problem is, so contact me if you have an idea (It's pretty simple to find my web site).

Fortunately, I already had another good router (3rd brand) to replace it with, so I'm still online. And I just bought an additional router (4th brand), at a very good sale price, to have as a backup.

Buyer Be Aware: Warranty not honored if purchased online.......2004-06-16

I bought this item October 2003 and it broke down today. After holding for 15 minutes to talk with a tech support, I was told since I bought this from an online retailer, Amazon, the company's policy is not to honor the warranty as "anyone can sell online and therefore we don't know what they could have done to the product." Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed. I hope you don't.

2 strikes and your out.......2003-11-03

Replaced a DI-701 with this thing. I bought this router for ONE reason... The box said 10/100 on BOTH sides LAN & WAN. In MY configuration, I have it between my private LAN workstations and my public net access and servers, so I want 100 between workstations and servers. It did seem to xfer at more than 10mbps when it WORKED.

The FIRST one I bought, after about 2 weeks, it started acting up, looking like it reset itself, but when that happened, no private machines could hit the public side. Needed a power-cycle to fix about every 8 hours. If I let it go on like that long enough (like overnight whilst sleeping--I know, what good sysadmin ever sleeps right?? lol), it would blow the whole LAN AND WAN, public AND private and NONE of my servers would then be accessible from ANYWHERE.
So I called Siemens, they said go ahead and exchange it where I bought it, so I did.
So here is the second one. Running great up until last Friday (about 6 months or so) when we had a power failure that was long enough to drain all the UPS backups, and the computers shutdown fine and all.
When the power came back on, the Power and PrintAct lights were green and the Status and Print Err lights red, (no printer hooked up to the printserver port) and with any comps hooked up to the switch ports, it would just continually cycle the lights through each port. NO ACCESS between ANY machines.
So now Im back on the 701 till I can find a GOOD KNOWN name brand (D-link, Linksys or 3com($$$ouch$$$) that has 100 on BOTH sides.

BIC should buy Siemens and sell these things right along side their disposable razors and lighters. For $30, thats about what it is. I am NOT taking this one back. Im donating it to BFI for landfill use. The wall-wart power supply may come in handy somewhere though...lol

Faster than the competition in Linux.......2007-08-28

This is the second gigabit expresscard I've tried on my laptop. The first, a Linksys Expresscard Gigabit Eth Adapter Pci Express, has a spring-loaded RJ-45 jack that folds down to allow for easier storage, but doesn't protect the pins well and they eventually broke. That Linksys card was not very fast; I never really got gigabit speeds with it. This Belkin card is significantly faster, and was detected by Ubuntu Linux (7.04, Feisty Fawn) right away, nothing to load or configure. I would buy one of these again in a heartbeat. This Belkin card is not as cool-looking as the Linksys, but it has it where it counts, and that's speed.

Functional, but deeply flawed.......2004-05-11

Despite the description in the owner's manual and a long session with tech support, it cannot be configured for DHCP through the web interface. Difficult to impossible to re-configure without resetting with a paper clip AND use of the Windows utility. Don't be misled by the "no drivers" claim. If you don't have access to a Windows PC with an Ethernet card, you'll be disappointed. The Linksys WGA11B is smaller, cheaper, and easier to configure.

Polaroid makes a poorly constructed under cabinet TV. It won't last ONE YEAR! Polaroid then ignores consumer requests for assistance. TV repairmen have told me this is one of the worst products they've ever seen.

We have had this unit for less then 9 months and alreay the LCD screen has burned out and the radio never worked on it. The price was reasonable, wich is why we bought it, but in the end...We should have gone with a more reputable brand.
We called Polaroid about the warrenty and they said they would try to fix it for $125 plus the cost of shipping and handling both ways. (Which would end up costing about the same as buying a new one.)

JUNK, JUNK, JUNK.......2006-04-14

We purchased this unit and had to wait to install it once our kitchen remodel was done, which took 2 months. I played four movies, 2 CD's and the radio and it died on me within two months. I called Polaroid to see if they would still honor their 90 day warranty because I hadn't really used it and the kitchen remodel delayed putting it in. NO. They did not even support their product. They wanted me to send it to them with an additional $125 to repair it. This is the last time I will buy a Polaroid product. I've also let my friends know. I'm happy for the ones that this worked out for, but there are more negative reviews of this product than positive ones - just search the internet. I'm moving on to Sony's products - at least they stand by their products.

Works good for us.......2005-12-30

My wife wanted a TV/Radio/CD player in our kitchen. While it is not high-def quality...works very well for her. She is quite happy with the 10" screen and the remote we have does allow previous channel functionality. It is simple to install (more difficult to get cable to the cabinent than to install the unit).

We have had installed for about 3 weeks...no issues, works like a champ. Hopefully, it will be durable.

Hands down, Sony's D-EJ915 is the most elegant and practical portable CD player on the market. A thing of beauty and durability, this top-of-the-line CD Walkman comes dressed in a sleek, lightweight, metal-topped case that's actually smaller in width and no longer than a CD jewel box, and only a tad thicker. The player slips tightly into a rubbery handgrip-equipped carrying case that makes it a pleasure to "palm" and tote about.

And what a performer! Even in the most agitated athletic activities, this player keeps tracking music perfectly, with nary a skip or pause, and with fine sound coming through the supplied over-the-ear headphones (or the accessory earphones or receiver of your choice).

Better still, the D-EJ915's efficient engineering lets you go for weeks between battery charges and changes. In fact, upwards of 57 hours of disc spinning are possible from the combination of onboard rechargeable NiMH stick batteries and an outboard pair of AA alkaline batteries that fit into a separate tubelike carrying case (connected to the main unit by a thin cable.) Plus, a graphic display indicates remaining battery power, so you won't run out of musical steam in the middle of your morning jog.

Usually, CD portables present tradeoffs when the user switches on the antishock protection circuitry. Battery power drains more quickly because the player must spin faster than normal to constantly replenish a memory buffer. And sound quality can diminish as well, because that same buffer tends to cut high frequencies as sound trickles through it.

However, the mighty D-EJ915 is a breed apart. It uses Sony's new G-Protection shock-protection circuitry--actually a combination of improvements including a far more responsive laser beam assembly and variable-speed turntable--to ride out the jolts. The combination works so efficiently and Sony's sound storage buffer is so well designed that the manufacturer hasn't seen the need to offer a defeat switch for the feature! The only time G-P does shut down is when an optical cable is connected to the unit for digital-domain transfer of a disc's contents--say, to a minidisc.

The function display is built into an oval-shaped remote control pod that's located at the end of a special headphone cable, making it easier to stash this tiny player away in a pocket or bag and still run the unit. The short-cabled headphones supplied with the unit then plug into the other end of the pod. We liked the fact that the control pod can clip to clothing and has an LED display that glows green whenever we hit a function button or the light bar. (The display is also visible when the backlight is off.)

Buttons are small and subtly marked on the control pod. The same could be said for the tiny control buttons located on the slim perimeter of the player itself. Unfortunately, this is one Sony product where you actually need to read the owner's manual to get the hang of all features and operations. (The effective Mega Bass option, for example, is accessible only from the remote.) Also a little annoying is the fact that to change a disc, you must first unplug the headphone/remote control cable before sliding the player out of its carrying case.

Those quibbles noted, we still highly endorse the D-EJ915. This CD Walkman is proof that you don't need to settle for a lower-resolution MP3 or minidisc format to find a music carrier that holds up well under torturous user conditions. The D-EJ915 performs great and looks quite elegant. You're going to love owning it.

I've had this cd player for two years now (my dad got it in hong kong for me) and i must say that it is AMAZING. the only flaw is its lid. the lid is flimsy and bends easily, and if it gets dented, it will come in contact with the cd while playing. otherwise this cd player is worth purchasing...i can't wait until sony comes out with a different model with a better lid.

Ok, I love this CD-player but I hate the battery life. I purchased this cd player just a little over a year ago and the included rechargeable batteries already seem to be dead. I am unable to get the player to charge the included flat batteries that go inside the player. I am hoping that it is just the rechargeable batteries that are dead and that there is not a more major problem inside the player. The batteries have not even been used very much. On the upside the player seems nicely constructed, I havent had any of the button problems I read in another review. The aluminum lid is a nice touch. The inline remote works great, but the shirt clip is a bit on the weekside. Overall I rate this product a four if it is just the rechargeable batteries that are dead. If its a bigger problem I will rate this product a zero as my last player was a sony and that mysteriously died too.

I love this thing, but..........2001-08-03

I have had my discman for about a year and a half, and I have only one complaint. The rechargable battery refused to recharge after about 8 months and I have been unable to find a way to replace it. If anyone knows where I can get a new one, please let me know ... because I miss the sleek, portableness of it all. The battery pack makes it slightly awkward when in the case (I tuck it inside and it's stretching the leather case out of shape) and batteries are getting expensive.

For the player itself, amazing sound, the skip protection is almost flawless (sometimes a huge bump on the highway when it's hooked up in my car, but when I'm running it's totally fine) and the remote features are great. I highly recommend.

As someone who is skeptical of beautiful electronics that often do not deliver on sustainability and reliability, I am very pleased to say that this CD player is kick .... I highly recommend it, it is slick, solid, and runs fantastic. Its a bit pricey, but the quality of the antiskip mechanism and fit-and-finish is truly wonderful.

Sony DE-J915 Portable Discman £130-150 GBP

This top of the line Discman is the slickest device I have purchased in a long time. I was left salivating when I first saw the 915 inside a Sony store in London West End. The price tag drew tears, the sales assistant smirked, I assume he owns one already.

I am a minimalist by nature, I scowl at patterned, bright yellow, bulky sports Discmans. The 915 will definitely draw stares on the bus, in the train and the gym.

There are a handful of sceptical reviews that emerge from the far corners of the Internet, mainly moans of lack of audio quality from the 915. These are obviously users who still use the headphones that were supplied with the unit. At a retail price of 150 GBP, it's understandable that Sony would throw in a cheapo pair of headphones. I was disappointed with the output from the `in your ear' bud phones that arrived with mine. Unable to handle some of the bass ridden tracks that I threw at it, the headphones literally rattled their way out of my ears.

The output in itself is powerful, after hooking the 915 up to a pair of Sony VDR-150`s the output was like butter. Bass addicts, gear up, seriously.

One guaranteed feature of the 925 is the jog-proof mechanism. The 915, under my rigorous testing does NOT skip.

The control stick acts as a intermediate device between the 915 and the headphones is a luxury. Like a minidisc player, the stick displays the track name and details, providing that you burnt the CD yourself. The volume control is cleverly integrated into the play/rewind/fast forward knob.

To Summarise

Be a poseur, and get yourself a 915, it feels good, sounds excellent and looks great
