For a Sony product in this price range the overall quality of the unit is very poor ... it's appearance is cheap and the performance of the tuner inside is indescribably poor as well I would not make the mistake of buying this product again

A pricey little travel radio; good, but with caveats.......2004-12-23

I got this radio before spending a month in Germany in 1997. (I'm surprised to see it's still around.) Generally, it served me well. It sounds like a small radio, but when you're traveling, that's okay ... usually you want news/information, or just background music. It sounds to me like a quality transistor radio, maybe a bit better (but not much). The sound is very clear, however. The on/off/band control is a sliding switch that can be a nuisance to use. It's very stiff, and easy to slide past the point you want it at. Ditto the volume and tuning controls on the side ... they can take a lot of control to get where you want them to be. I bet that those with limited hand strength or use would find this a difficult radio to use. Sensitivity seems to be good. The clock/alarm clock portion worked fine, with one glaring exception: for some reason, mine keeps going blank, even though the battery is fine. I take out the battery, put it back in, and it works again ... for about a week. Then it's the same drill again. Once I even bought a new battery for the clock (the radio and clock use separate batteries) and it didn't change a thing. I've tried cleaning the contacts, testing the battery voltage, etc. I don't know what's causing it. At this point, I pretty much expect the display to be blank when I open the radio up. That pisses me off given what the radio cost. Otherwise, when all is well, the clock works fine, the alarm works fine, the green backlight is adequate enough for its purpose. The unit is remarkably compact, and makes a nice little package that can slip in a chest pocket. I agree that it is solidly built. I paid $100 for it in 1997 ... my wishes for this radio were (1) that it cost less, especially given its limitations, and (2) that the clock were more reliable (at least on mine). I don't know if there's anything else out on the market like the SW12. If there is, consider it; otherwise, you could certainly do worse than this radio. It lightens your wallet too much, but it won't do the same to your luggage.

An Alarm Clock that also has Shortwave -not a "radio".......2003-12-04

I've been a radio buff for many years have a large collection and love to do compares . This unit is an Alarm Clock , not truley a "radio" . And the alarm does NOT interact with the radio, its analog ,therefore it cannot turn the radio on as an alarm . Buzzer only! It does not have a DC adaptor jack . It must run on batteries only. It has an earphone jack .No FM Stereo. If you plug headphones in you will only hear it out of one side . Sony could have easily put a mono adaptor inline so you would hear it through both and should have for the price . The tuner like many Sony products has very good sensativity . But , the controls are so small you need the hands of a brain surgeon to fine tune it . If I was travelling and intended on DXing I would NOT depend on this alarm clock . If you want to listen to SW or DX the broadcast band , buy a real radio . If you want a travel alarm clock , buy one that interacts with the radio . At this price this unit is certainly NOT WORTH IT ! I give two stars instead of one because the tuner is pretty decent , however , pass it by !

Cute and light, but..........2003-10-10

This short wave radio also comes with a built in alarm clock. The problem is that it stopped working all of a sudden after just a year. The warranty only lasts for 90 days and Sony will repair it, but the repairs cost more than the radio!

steady global travel companion.......2003-10-04

This radio has been a steady companion in my travels to remote areas of Africa and SE Asia during the past 3-4 years. The top portion of the antenna snapped off after 2 years of frequent usage, but this hasn't affected reception significantly. My only wish would be to have a volume control on the alarm, and stereo reception in earphones - to block out bush/jungle noises!

The Cerwin Vega center I was trying to replace was about a decade old, so I figured that technological improvements over that time-span would let me buy a better speaker for a reasonable price. Although the price is reasonable on this Polk, I was certainly not impressed with the sound produced. ALthough the CV only has one speaker and this Polk has 3 built into it, the sound on the Polk is so much quieter and less crisp. I guess I'll put it in with the tv in my bedroom. It certainly doesn't belong with my 50" Sony SXRD HDTV, my Harman Kardon receiver, or my JBL speakers.

If you're just looking for a fair speaker at a reasonable price, I'd recommend the Polk. But, if you want a center channel that produces strong and crisp sound, you should look elsewhere.

Very clear vocals in a small package.......2007-07-26

While overhauling my home theater system, I decided to try a new center speaker. Even if this speker did not work well, it could go into another room.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to hear the sweet, clear sound this speaker produces. At less than half the size of my existing center speaker, this Polk Audio RM6752 center speaker produces at least the same amount of sound. More importantly, vocal sound through this speaker is clear and crisp.

So, this speaker will stay with my home theater system. The older center speaker can go to the other room for a 3.1 setup. As you can guess, I do recommend this speaker. Though small, it provides a sweet, clear sound for your center channel.

Good sound in a small package.......2007-05-28

Don't let the small size and light weight fool you. This center channel speaker packs plenty of punch. For me, the main purpose of a CS speaker is to deliver clear vocals and dialogue. With this Polk, I no longer have to lean forward in my chair or crank up the volume to hear conversations. All sound coming from it is crystal-clear. I'm very happy with it. I have it set up with an Onkyo receiver, an RCA sub, two Bose front speakers, and four Klipsch surround speakers.

great things come in small packages.......2007-02-28

When they delivered this center speaker, I thought that someone, somewhere--had made a huge mistake...the box was huge! It was all plastered with caution-signs warning of the heavy weight of the object inside the big box...Thankfully, it was just that whomever shipped it was being a bit too careful...coz, this rascal only weighs some 6 or 7 lbs, at the most...But, the sound,,,the sound is glorious, and fits right in with my Polk R15's...I could not be more pleased with this purchase! So, thank you Polk and thank you Amazon--you guys rock!

beware of blue spots.......2007-09-11

I have the 50we655 that has small blue spots appearing to be fingerprints popping up all over the screen. For the 1st 2years and four months it was fantastic view, but now I'm told it needs an optical block which I paid 99.00 to find out through sony who said if it was road mapping or lines it would be free diagnostics and under recall for the optical block. But they said it's caused by dust on my optical block so they cannot replace it under warranty because its not scribble lines or roadmapping and it would run 1200.00 to replace. Thank God I bought the extended warranty. It's extremely disappointing to know you are a loyal sony cust. and they don't stand behind their product that we spent 3300.00 on? and the real shame it IS the recall part that IS causing the concern. Get real and replace it

Lost love.......2007-07-23

Bought this TV about 2 years ago and loved it.
However, a couple months ago we started getting a bluish haze near the center. Was told it was likely the bulb. $150 later I found out otherwise. Bright blue pixels started showing up recently as well. It sounds like my only shot at getting this fixed will cost me over $1000. I can't believe Sony isn't doing a recall on this. One of the selling points for me was it would last far longer than plasma. Not so! Very disappointed with Sony at this point.

SONY KDF-42WE655 UNRELIABLE!!!.......2007-06-05

Do a Google search on "Sony LCD blue blob" and you'll find hubdreds of people complaining about Sony LCD tvs. They are crap!! Do not buy them!! Sony refuses to fix my tv because it's out of warranty. The tv is only two years old!! They want over $1000 to fix it. Stay away from Sony stuff!!

Blue Dots & Blue wave.......2007-04-01

We had this television about a year when we first started seeing the blue cloud of dots appearing - then a blue cloud started appearing along the entire top about 8" long now and along the right side about 10" now. It's so bad it distorts most every image (unless it's primarily blue)- Sony should definately have a recall issued on this one! Buyer beware.

Only lasted for two years, two months . . ........2007-02-27

We bought this tv in October 2004 for $2,300. (Mfr'd Sep '04) We loved it at first and would have gladly given it a 5 star rating. We were warned that we'd have to replace the bulb about once a year (costing roughly $100) and we did. In September 2006 we noticed a faint blue cloud appearing in the center of the screen that measured about 8"x8". Over the next couple months the blue cloud became more intense and then a blue line about an inch thick permanently formed horizontally across the bottom of the screen and now there is also a blue triangle to the bottom right of the screen that goes up about 10". It is very annoying and whenever we have company over we have to explain that it is the tv, not the channel. We called in a very reputable tv repair service to look at it and much to our surprise he told us it was the 'optic device' and to replace it would cost about $1,000.00. What! We could buy another tv just like this for a couple hundred more. We're very surprised that with the reputation Sony has that this tv would only last us 2 years and 2 months. Please beware of this model's problems.

Excellent Service and works fine XP.......2003-11-17

I have a PC in home with Windows 2000 and another in office with Office XP. The reader works fine in Windows XP, it works like another drive. But I had problems using it in Windows 2000, the driver generated an error, I contacted Simpletech Service by e-mail and recieved excellent service, they guided me to correct the problem, unfortunately, it was not possible to do that reader works, now i will upgrade to Win XP in home.

Fast, easy, and simple to use. I bought this along the a Simpletech 64mb SD card from Amazon for my m515 and they work perfectly. Get it and notice almost zero transfer time from file to card.

I recommend buying Simpletech's Secure Digital Reader to save time and ease. I use it with my 64 mb secure digital card and Ipaq H3850. It plugs straight into my USB port and was impressed with the transfer rate.
