Customer Reviews:
works great, relatively low price.......2007-09-22
I was a bit worried by some of the negative reviews for this product.
I just got it yesterday, and so far it is excellent.
Noise is fairly low. Could be dominated by noise on input as far as I know.
Auto mute works when I leave the room (No IR signal)
I'm not getting any loud static at all.
No variations as I move about the room, until it mutes when signal is lost as I leave the room.
I bought this since it mentions that it works from a line in (high impedance) not
just headphone jack (8-16 ohm impedance)
It is working great in this mode.
My placement is on a shelf. This may help reception since the upper IR emitter
would be pointed at the white ceiling, giving a nice reflection.
The lower IR emitter might have direct line of sight.
Works fine.......2007-09-19
It works fine, and are ok, but my husband made a mistake ordering it (he needed another kind of device, but found out later!). I suppose the new owner, when he or she appears, will enjoy this product.
Good infra-red reciever.......2007-09-17
For the size it is good. There is a small hiss only at higher volumes, so increase source volume and reduce earphone volume. It is better for the ear anyway.
Seating in cradle has to be patiently done and it is good.
The transmitter is quite bright to fill a good room. It is nice.
Only thing Sony makes you buy their AAA battery (chargeable) because it has a jig in it on the outside. Normal Ni-Mh do not work.
Great product.......2007-09-13
I've had this headphones for a few years already, aside from the ear covers being damaged by use, they work perfectly, very glad I bought them.
Sony Wireless Headset.......2007-09-06
Ok for close stuff, but the range is not good, and you need direct line of sight/signal in order to use these. They aren't kidding when they give you the diagram of the signal coverage. Spend a little more - get the Sennheisers - you'll be happier in the end. I ended up replacing these with a better model within a week.

Amazon.com Product Description
These wireless headphones were designed to meet the infrared requirements of the Sony MV-710DS Mobile DVD Dream System. However, they are also compatible with any audio/video wireless system (IEC standard) that uses analog infrared audio transmissions. Please note that these headphones do NOT included the infrared transmitter.
The headphones have a transmission range of twenty-four feet (ten feet when at +/- 45 degrees.) They also receive at up to a ninety degree transmission angle, ensuring that you have uninterrupted listening as you move around the room. The headband is self-adjusting and sports a snug-fitting wide band. There is a volume control on the right ear headphone, allowing you to make the essential adjustment without walking to the sound source. The headphones require one AAA battery. If you use an optional alkaline battery, you can expect up to sixty hours of use; an optional NiCad battery will get you twenty-eight hours of use.
The headphones are lightweight and comfortable, delivering quality sound. Sony has installed several technical features to the headphones to ensure a quality listening experience. The thirty millimeter drive units are large for similar portable headphones, and deliver deep bass, low distortion and a wide frequency response range (18 - 22,000 Hz). Ferrite magnets give the headphones solid energy at a minimal size and weight. The PET diaphragm offers low distortion and a high frequency response. The open-air design allows for ambient noise to enter the ear, a safe and observant feature. The headphone's color is a modern and sleek black.

Customer Reviews:
great for TV listening !!.......2007-07-21
I got this primarly for TV listening. I have one small kid and he watch his own programs so I got an extra TV for our TV room in order to stay all together. The problem with the audio was solved with this headset that fits easily to my 4 year old kid or me.
The audio is better that I expected, even better sound that the speakers of the LCD Sony Bravia. Great angle covering and distance also.
I have had this for about 6 months now and still running with the same battery.
The only con I see it may be the weight. Some time is tired to wear it during two hours or so.
GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE.......2006-03-06
This is a good product for the price. My one complaint is that the wire that extends from the headset base to the TV is too short. I will probably go buy a longer one at Radio Shack.
Here's a tip: The volume on the headset itself should be turned down to eliminate hissing. To increase the volume, use the TV volume adjuster to control (instead of the headphones).
They are pretty comfortable headphones. After about 4 hours, my ears ache slightly. The sound is very good, too.
Overall I am happy with these. If you are looking for an affordable set of infrared headphones, these are a good bet. If you are one of those hi-tech, super-stereo, geeky audio aficionados, these are probably not the headphones for you.
Very Pleased.......2005-12-19
I've owned a set of these for two years now and love them. The kids can watch a movie while we have guests and no one is bothered by the tv. I'm buying more so that when they have frieds over they can all wear a set.
Burn your money instead........2004-06-08
Don't waste your money on Infrared Headphones, buy Wireless 900 MHz technology. THese are extreemley annoying, you have to be in line of site in order for these to work. The Headphones, and the little recieve need to be able to see each other, you can't leave the room. or in my case sit in front of your computer monitor because it blocks the reciever. Buy Wireless 900 MHz like your telephone, I did and can now roam around the entire house, and even go outside.
Worked Fine for Me.......2004-01-01
Dunno about the review above but when I used it with my Sony Wega TV (My infrared recieve is integrated into the TV) it works perfectly. The sound is very clear, almost as clear as wired headphones. Good deal if you want the Sony brand name.

Customer Reviews:
Expires with the Battery.......2005-12-23
As mentioned by several others the software is terrible, the device locks up and can't be restarted until the battery is completely dead, but by far the worst thing is that when the battery does actually die and fails to retain a charge, you have to return it to Philips and they charge $143.73 to replace the battery!!
My advise: DO NOT buy the Philips HDD line unless you are looking to spend $200+ on a "throw away" MP3 player.
Good player if you know how to use it.......2005-10-26
Pros:
-mp3 recording(mic, optical and line in)
-plays mp3 and WMA
-acctualpartitioned disk space:18.9 gig
-very bright backlight
-easy to use interface, great ipod alternative\
-nice looking, almost identicle size to 3G/4G ipod
-remote included, good audio quality
Cons:
-horrible software, i use a thirdparty software media manager
-shows wear more because of dark color
-a little bit slower than an ipod
overall a great product, i reccomend it if you want an HD player, and want lots of good features
It was a good year.. not really.......2005-08-09
I've had this for over a year and it's finally died on me.
Problems I've suffered through include the previously mentioned crap software, a period of lockup (only once) where I had to let the battery die and it worked again, and the device being way too quiet for my taste.
Browsing through the player's library has always been a pain, but now the library has stopped updating. In other words, I add tracks, and they do transfer onto the device, but the device doesn't see them. I know they're there because I can look at the files via Windows Explorer. But they're not there if I try to access them on the device itself. So basically I'm stuck with what's on it, and it's only 56% full.
I'm going to do some research and buy an ipod or something else. Then, since it's too late to get my money back, I'm going to smash this into pieces and never buy Philips again. A $250 lesson learned.
Not bad.......2005-06-15
Overall i enjoy this MP3 player. It looks good and is much cheaper then an Ipod. The pros
Great design
20 Gigs
Great display
decent battery
Cons
software: It is not as bad as everyone is saying it is. The only problem that i find is i have the put the soungs on in reverse order(14-1) Other then that the software is self explanitory.
The head phones are O.K (But who uses the headphones that come in the package anyway.)
I would recomend this product if you do not want to shell out the 300 bucks for an ipod but still want a 20 gig player.
Great piece of equipment.......2005-02-04
I got mine on eBay for about $75 bucks. It had everything but the manual, and the software. That was all easily downloadable on the internet though. The software isn't too bad, actually. I originally got it to record lectures off of the internet, as I am going to law school online, but it doesn't seem to be so keen on doing that. It may work in the end though, I just haven't spent too much time on it. It didn't come with the headphones or the remote, either, but oh well. What do you want for $75? I think its a beautiful machine, by the way, and the sound is first-rate. It has locked up a couple of times, but that's been more my fault than anything. It will hold a ton of songs, too. So far, I'm pretty happy, but if I had spent $200 or so for it, I might have felt a bit different

Customer Reviews:
Don't Buy It. Inline volume control weakness........2007-05-20
I bought two of these Plantronics Audio 90 headsets in less than year; both had the exact same problem. One day, all the sudden, stereo won't work and I only got sound on one ear. I thought it could be the cable that goes from one ear to the other but after getting stereo sound during a few seconds, I found out it was the inline volume control that caused the lack of stereo sound. I had the exact same problem in two models. I'm not buying this headset for a third time. Take my advince and try something else like a Logitech or a Koss.
Logitech knows gaming headsets.......2007-04-02
I have owned this pair longer than any other headset and its still helping me defend my computer from other FPS'ers. Logitech knows what their doing when it comes to gaming headsets and it will be hard to change my mind about that.
Easy to install and use.......2007-03-18
This headset/microphone combo has helped turn my PC into a desktop recording studio of sorts. I use it to record liturgical materials for my Hebrew school students and practice recordings for members of my acapella group. I can then burn the recordings to CDs, attach them to e-mails, etc. - whatever is most convenient for the student/singer. It was extremely easy to install - just plug and play (or sing, anyway); I've even brought it along to lessons or rehearsals and plugged it in to another computer with no problem (although I prefer to spare it the wear and tear of dragging it around town!).
I love it........2007-01-05
Can't get better than this at this price.
It's quite comfortable and sound is very good.
laptop companion.......2007-01-04
I use this exclusively with my laptop. It's comfortable, sounds decent, and has a microphone. Audio quality is good by consumer standards. Audio-philes should stay away. The microphone picks up voices clearly. It's a solid headset from a leading manufacturer sold at a good price.
