The sound is excellent. The wiring is better than some others I've had because it doesn't get tangled easily.
The ear clips are bent too sharply and don't fit well around the ear.
I probably would try some other product before I ordered these again...because of the fit.

I am very pleased with these headphones. I got them to replace a 3 year old pair from Sony that was the precursor to this model. I still use the early model, but they are a little uncomfortable after a while. Which is why I bought this pair, once you get used to them these are quite comfortable, and they have very good audio quality. I put these through pretty tough wear and abuse and they have held up very well.

I just got these headphones and i love them.... they not only look cool but have awesome sound. I mainly use my headphones at the gym with ipod works really well i can hear my music despite the gym music. Also the wire is long enough.

I am not a fan of earbuds, so I would have to say that the one brand of headpones that I can trust is Sony. I have purchased many different kinds of headphones and I have to say for being small and compact these are well worth the price. The only downside that I can think of is that the cord is way too long, it is not necessary. Other than that, its a great product that delivers great sound.

Mediocre sound meets uncomfortable design.......2005-11-02

I ordered 2 pairs, black/orange for myself and silver/green for my wife, as replacements for our ipod earbuds (yes, we are yuppies).
I have to say, the MDQ-Q23LP look really cool, as you can probably tell by looking at them online. However, that's where the positive aspects end. They are physically uncomfortable. I made sure I put them on right. I can see how I could eventually get used to the jabbing behind the ear, but why should I. What I could never get used to is the flat sound. I was not expecting studio quality out of this design in this price-range but I was neither expecting the 2-can, 99-cent store, flatness. Playing with the EQ on the ipod helped somewhat, but not very much.
Finally, I can't stand it when I can hear people's music through their earphones over the subway noise, 12 feet away. I don't mean the tsk-tsk-tsk or an occasional sax. I mean when you can actually hear the lyrics. I think MDQ-Q23LP is one of those headphones. I did all sorts of sound tests and even at half the volume (much too quiet for my taste) they were extremely noisy on the outside. Again, I was not expecting the type of sound isolation you get out of earbuds or the noise-cancelling headphones, but give me a break... these babies give the term "sharing music" a new meaning. I'll let my wife deside about her pair, but I'm sending mine back. Too bad, they look great (hence 2 stars).

This earphones from sony have an exceptional sound quality, is one of the best, and for this price is amazing, they look beautiful and sound like that too!
You wouldnt expect less from sony of course
Only thing is that it sounds so hard that sound leaks more than wanted and people around you can hear what you're listening.

Annoying design.......2006-06-25

I bought these to replace my iPod ear buds and was sorely disappointed in them. The sound is decent, but in order to actually hear your music without turning the volume way up, you need to actually press the earphones against your ear as it's impossible to get a snug fit. I'm also utterly confused by the need for the right headphone to be attached to the left headphone - it's just replacing a wire hanging in front of you with a wire hanging behind you. I'm taking these back today and looking for something else.

I wear headphones to listen to my mp3 everyday, all day at work. I had another pair of these for a long time and they finally gave out on me. I searched all over for a new pair because none of the substitutes were as comfortable. I like the nice long cord so I can put my mp3 in any pocket I want, the sound is great, and I like the style.

who designed these silly things?.......2006-03-29

So I'm a big Sony fan and I was looking for a compact headphone without going the earbud route (those little things hurt my ear canals and are worse for your hearing than headphones) so I thought I would compromise and get the earphones without the plastic "head" part that connects the left and right. Bad move.

These are horribly designed. The "hook" part that goes over the ear doesn't leave them snug to my ear for good sound/bass. Furthermore, I was expecting 2 wires: one to each earpiece splitting at the neck line. Not until I got them out of the box did I find that 1 wire goes from the player to the left ear, then a wire goes from there to the right ear. In short you have a right earpiece hanging off of the left earpiece, which I'm sure you can imagine gets tangled pretty often. Also, if you're jacket sleeve gets caught on the wire near your player, it pulls the left earpiece off of your ear.

If you are considering these for running purposes, DO NOT buy them as you will be horribly disappointed. I'm a walker myself and am having trouble getting used to this loose fit.

The one saving grace - and only reason for a 2 star rating - for these is that the sound is very decent as with all Sony I've ever owned. But since they fit so loosely, this is irrelevant.

I have owned a similar phone for several years and bought this one as a gift. I like to use it for talking while doing other things like folding clothes, washing dishes, peeling potatoes and working on the computer. I can even walk out to the mailbox while talking on the phone. Love this phone!

I tried several headset phones without success ... poor range and battery life seemed inevitable. Then I purchased a CT12, and it worked so well my wife wanted one too! We've had two of them for the last couple years and they have worked perfectly.

The headset is comfortable and it's easy to hear and be heard, it is feather-weight and the battery lasts for hours. They reach all parts of the house and yard, and there's no problem using two of them simultaneously (they completely ignore one another).

The item is compact in size which is very convenient. Although the headset doesn't adjust quite small enough for me. Haven't used it much yet, but the sound quality appears to be good. Packed full of features (which I have a hard time remembering how to use). Has several different ringtones, which you can assign to different callers, if you wish. That is a feature I had only had on a cell phone prior to this. Drawback: It is hard to remove from charger with the headset cord attached. Must grab it just right from the top two side edges. Overall, excellent product.

This is a great phone!! I bought two of them. My wife and I work from home and are on the phone for hours doing conference calls with our employees and the head office. Half the time I would have to go without a headset so I could hear. The sound clarity is superb and I love the size of the phone and fit of the headset.
The only drawback so far is the buttons are small and unlit - no big deal for me but might be for others.
I will probably by two more for our Florida office so we have them there too.

I am disappointed with this phone, but mainly that is my fault as I didn't listen to others. The headset is OK (I now know it was not the previous phone that was bad but the fact that I am too close to my wireless router) but it is useless as a regular phone because you can't use it without the headset; which ticks off my wife!!
I guess I should have bought a wireless headset phone.

For the price... Not half bad.......2007-08-26

My MDR-G52s finally called it quits. What now? I didn't want DJ style headphones (they have great sound but they are too big for outdoor listening). I HATE earbuds!!! So, I bought the MDR-G42s today. The sound quality so far is pretty outstanding for the price! The comfort level is acceptable. The magents allow the drivers to be LOUD!!!

Dont confuse these for top of the line Bang & Oulfson headphones. They arent the same! The base response on these is (in my opinion) better! The B&Os are great for comfort, these aren't (They are acceptable, not great). If you are willing to try, you might be surprised at how far 20.00 still goes in acoustics (I am!)

I took off a star becasue after 15 year on the market with the street style headphones, SONY apparently still doesn't understand that people wear glasses!

In this price range these are exactly the kind of headphones I like to have in my backpack. I carry them everywhere - I have many sets of headphones but these I carry around all the time for my Treo 650, Zen Vision M, laptop movies, etc.

Here's why:
- Small, light, indestructible
- The plastic band is very bendable but will not break - so I don't have to worry about just throwing them around or travelling with them.
- Sound is great
- Stay on your ears always - I've never had a problem
- As comfortable as any headphones - after a while sure they hurt your ears. Over the ear style is the only style I can stand for more than 2 hours straight. All other styles annoy me after a while: in the ear, next to the ear, against the ear, etc.

It's a small feature but I really like it - their is only one cord on one side of your head that goes out to your mp3 player. Hey, I know this is a little thing but the cable coming down from both ears really annoys me.

I've owned three pairs - my cat keeps chewing the cords off all my headphones so I go through a lot. For this price, I haven't been able to find better quality headphones so I keep getting these again.

Great Headphones.......2007-07-19

I have had these headphones before, and loved them. I changed them for a bigger earmuff style headphones. I was not to happy with the bigger ones, and I have bought these behind the ear ones again. They are great, light weight, great sound, and they do not bother my cap or the top of my head. I can take my hat off without having to take off the headphones! The length of the cord it good to. It is long enough to reach any MP3 player.

Very average headphones........2007-06-07

I got these headphones three months ago. They are working fine inspite of my rough handling and the sound quality is quite ok. Actually, that's what you get for that price. :-)

However, the main reason for low rating of this product is that they are very uncomfortable if you plan to use them for more than an hour or so. Your ears and back of head starts to pain.

They are just great headphones. They sound excellent and have deep bass. I've used this type of headphone from Sony since they started making them and they've always had great sound. The ear pieces on this particular model are slightly smaller than previous models. I thought they would "break in" but I've had them for over a year now and they still feel tight. Anyway, I've worn them almost 24/7 for over a year and they still work, sound great, and they fit like the day I bought them. I go through a lot of headphones and a pair that lasts this long is definitely something to write about!
