Product Description
Studio Monitor Series headphones incorporate state-of-the art engineering design to produce excellent sound quality and wearing comfort to accommodate high-end consumer or professional applications. Circum-Aural Ear cup design in the natural shape of the human ear positions the driver unit at a correct distance from the ear canal and creates a sealed resonance chamber over the earlobe itself, reducing pressure on the ear for a more comfortable fit, especially during extended listening sessions. Oxygen-Free Copper Voice Coil construction provides exceptionally high power handling capability of up to 3, 000mW. Amorphous Diamond Evaporated Diaphragm stiffens the drivers to maximize their tonal qualities while minimizing additional weight for much more natural sound. Folding Design with supplied carrying case offers the convenience of easier portability. Reversible Ear cups for Single-Side Monitoring let vocalists and musicians hear external surrounding sounds naturally while simultaneously listening through one side of the headphones. Cushioned Headband adds to wearing comfort and a better overall fit. Class 1 Oxygen-Free Copper (LC-OFC) connecting cord used here is highly conductive for maximum signal transmission with the lowest possible signal noise or distortion.
Amazon.com Product Description
The MDR-V900 closed circum-aural headphones provide top-end comfort and sound quality. The headphones are part of Sony's Studio Monitor Series and are built with high-end materials using advanced sound engineering. These MDR-V900 headphones are designed to meet the demands of high fidelity users. Sony's closed type headphones allow only a limited amount of ambient noise into the ear canal, giving your attention fully to the music. The padded earcups fit comfortably, hour after hour. For those who like to use the headphones for single-sided monitoring, these MDR-V900s come with swivel earcups. The earcups are also reversible, and have been designed to be comfortable for on-shoulder use. The circum-aural design is engineered for excellent listening comfort. With this design, the earcups rest lightly on the ear, while the driver units are positioned along the ear canal for ideal sound transport. This fit fine-tuning reduces pressure on the ears, thus allowing you to wear the headphones for longer periods of time with much more comfort. The wide, molded headband distributes the headphone's weight evenly. The headphones are foldable for easy storage and portability; when folded, the headphones will easily fit in a backpack or purse. The concealed, single-sided, three meter cord (ten feet) is made of oxygen-free copper wiring for maximum conductivity and minimal noise.
Sony has installed several key features to these headphones to enhance their sound quality. The fifty millimeter drive units delivers a deep bass sound and a wide dynamic range (the frequency range extends down to 5 Hz.) The neodymium magnets allow for superb power at a minimum size; these magnets provide more magnetic energy than other inferior magnets. The Oxygen-free copper voice coil provides a giant amount of power handling capacity (3000 mW.) The amorphous diamond evaporated diaphragm stiffens the drivers to maximize tonal qualities and provide accurate sound for the entire sound spectrum. Both the stereo mini-plug and the UniMatch phone plug are gold-plated to make sure sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones' high conductivity and low noise. The UniMatch adaptor is self-cleaning and screw-on.
Excellent fit, excellent compatibility, excellent portability and excellent sound: these headphones fit the bill for a sound professional.

Sony MDR-V900.......2007-04-16
I have had these headphones for about 4 years now and I have yet to hear a set that delivers better sound. The deep end is very rich but the entire range remains very balanced. The sound is very, very transparent to the point that you might get disappointed even with 192kbit MP3s. Very nice is also the impedance matching with the ipods which means that even the nano is capable of powering the V900 to a sound that will blow your eardrums if you so desire and it will do so for hours, which really comes as a surpise to me as the headset is capable of delivering 3W (!) of power. But really, anyone who spends this money on a headset is probably not about the power. These are so nicely balance that I usually avoid using an equilizer. I will admit that my experience with other topend headsets is limited, but if you go to the apple store and try every headset on display you will find that none will match the quality of the V900, including the over/on ear Bose noise canceling. While the Bose has a very good sound and is equally rich it doesn't have the transparency of the V900. The fit is very tight which shields very well from ambient noise. As a matter of fact I have used a leafblower in the backyard for several hours will listening to music, but having said that, it is NOT a noice canceling headset. Really the only drawback as I can see it is the weight. This is not a light set. In particular the very high quality cable comes with a huge weight penalty. It gets kind of ridiculus with the nano ipod, because the pod is probably less than half the weight of the headset. They are very comfortable on the ear so the weight is not felt that much, but when lying down or turning the head rapidly the weight will cause them to slip of. I bought the Bose in-ear set to complement.
Good, but not great.......2005-09-30
About a month ago, I decided to get some better sounding phones to use in my studio. I bought a pair of Sony MDR-v900, and a pair of Sony MDR-7506 from their pro-line.
The v900 sounds fine for non-critical listening, but the 7506 shows much more detail. If you really wanna hear what's in the mix, the 7506 is the ticket.
The v900 does favors for low bit-rate mp3 encoded stuff, and it's pleasant to listen to...with a bit of a bump in the 100-200Hz region, but there's just not enough detail to be able to use for critical projects.
I bought more pairs of MDR-7506...that should tell you something. There has been some talk that Sony may discontinue the 7506...sure hope that doesn't happen.
BTW, the consumer MDR-v600 is NOT the same thing as the pro-line MDR-7506. The v600 sounds much more like the MDR-v900.
Not worth $250, but a pretty good buy at $140.......2005-08-23
Sony has replaced their high-end line of headphones with the new "SA" series, which means good buys on oldies like the V900s. I was using the MDR-V700s, which are decent, but they are also heavy, and tend to get very uncomfortable after awhile. I've seen all the reports of cracked and broken hinges, but my pair survived roughly 1.5 years of use without a problem in that area.
Because of the weight and comfort issue though, I wanted new cans that are around the ear to block out noise and are sealed (which rules out Grado and the Sony SA series) sound as good or better than the V700 (rules out Bose) and have less clamping force than the V700 so I can wear them for hours (rules out Sennheiser HD280 Pro). I also didnt want to spend more than $150 or so, and I wanted cans that are reasonably portable, which rules out Audio-Technica.
Whats left are the V900s, which after several weeks of use are actually quite good. They showed that the V700s have a dull, recessed midrage and some coloration in the highs. The V900s are pretty neutral, perhaps slightly foward. Most recordings on my iRiver iFP-999 sounded a little bright, so I set the EQ to -3db at 14khz, which smoothed out the sound nicely. The V900s have everything I was looking for in a new pair of headphones. They are very light and very comfortable even after 4-5 hours of continuous use, they are efficient enough to use even with my notebook, they are portable, and they sound better than the V700s.
If you're fine with open cans I'd suggest the Sony MDR-SA5000, which have phenominal sound for their price. If you want sealed but arent concerned with portability, get a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-W1000s (keep in mind though you have to buy them at a place that imports from Japan like Audiocubes).
If you want sealed, light, portable, and quality sound for a reasonable price, the V900s are a good buy.
Advise on the V900 from a novice.......2005-05-15
I am providing this feedback 6 months after I purchased the V900. This is my first real headphone, and I am impressed. The quality is good, but I can't tell the difference between the higher end ear buds I have purchased. The comfort is excellent, unlike ear buds; I can where them as long as I want with no discomfort.
Note: Primary use is casual listening, no studio work.
Awesome Sound Reproduction.......2005-02-12
I have had a variety of Sony Headphones (and others over the years - Sennheiser, Nady, Panasonic, Pioneer, etc.) including the MDR V-700, V-300, V-7506 and others. These MDR-V900 Monitors though are the best! I use them for monitoring music, movies, and most importantly, I use them when playing my Bass Guitar at church. They have a great "boot'en" bottom-end as well as a excellent very high upper ambience reproduction...they simply kick! I paid much more for them than that advertized on Amazon right now and I am considering buying other pairs for my drummer, sound technician, and guitarist for our church group. My opinion is you can't go wrong with these babies!

Easy to use and reliable.......2007-03-18
Our FR114P was damaged by a lightening surge, and Netgear replaced it under warranty. I surge-protected the second one and we have used it for several years. This is a reliable unit and very easy to use. I have recommended it to friends, who were equally pleased. I also bought several for our portable LANs at work, and those have functioned beautifully, too. In summary, this is a great product that I highly recommend to those looking for a foolproof and easy to use cable/DSL router with robust firewall.
super!.......2007-01-13
It was easy to install. It has worked flawlessly now for 6 months. Highly recommended.
There's got to be a more rigorous unit on the market..........2007-01-01
My first unit was defective. The second unit works well. This firewall works like a charm & has enough configs to make it a great solution. It turns out to be highly suspect to a little bit of extra electricity. Make sure you have it on a top quality surge protector.
PS: Kudos to Amazon. After getting an RMA for the first unit from Netgear, Amazon actually shipped me a new one before they got the defective unit back. All at no charge to me (no shipping etc...). That's why we love Amazon.
Just plug it in and it works.......2006-12-07
Finally! Something high-tech that basically installs itself. No hassle. No user-hostile experience. Why did I buy this? I had two LinkSys routers at home over three years and finally got fed up! With any network hiccup, I'd have to reboot the LinkSys routers and sometimes re-install the configuration software.
I tried another router with the same user-hostile experience. I bought this product -- the Netgear FR114P -- based on reviews. I wanted "plug-and-play" or as close as I could get. I didn't want the hassle of installing software that ultimately fought with me. Yes, I can read and follow directions. But for Pete's sake, humans played golf on the moon 35 years ago. Why can't they invent a router that just plain works out of the box?
I plugged the router into my network and had all my home PCs online in just a few minutes. It comes with software, but not necessary for basic functions.
For the money, this was bargain for the trouble it saves in installation.
Totally Reliable.......2006-06-01
This router has worked great for the past year. We have 3 Linux computers connected to DSL through it.
One PC is at the far end of the house. We use two Novatech Powerline Ethernet Adapters to connect that PC to the Netgear router through our home powerline wiring. Netgear and Novatech work fine together, with no DSL speed degredation.
The browser interface is easy to use. The firewall features are easy enough for the inexpert user to understand.
The manual is good, but I would prefer to have a hard copy.

You just bought a new mini-stereo system and it seems to have everything but... what if you want to play some of those old phonograph records that you've grown fond of? Unit weighs 6-1/3 pounds
Customer Reviews:
where is the sound?.......2005-12-14
I got this turntable when I bought a new JVC stereo minisystem. The only sound I have been able to get out of it is so miniscule that I can only assume it is defective. Various calls to their help line where unilluminating. Unfortunately I had thrown out the box before actually trying to see if it works...
Very disappointing product.
Spend the extra money for a more reliable turntable.......2005-02-27
I purchased this turntable brand new. It worked great for a few days. I only played 3 or 4 records a day. I thought it was very convenient the way the turntable could be hooked up to my mini stereo system. Several days later, for no apparent reason, it started to play records at multiple speeds from fast to slow and back while in the 33RPM setting. I checked all the components and referred back to the manual settings. Couldn't find the problem. Within 2 weeks, the start and stop functions became faulty and the turntable would simply stop spinning, mid-song without warning. My advice is to spend the extra money for a better product. This one was a waste of time.

Teac P-988 Full Automatic Turntable
Customer Reviews:
A great player for standard use, affordable as well........2006-08-12
I bought my Teac player about 10 years ago now, and it has served me well. I see unfortunately some of the other reviewers have had some problems with it, and one has had great luck, well i am a good luck review. Mine is actually the P-A400 model, but very similar in style and product as the 988 model, and mine does have the amplifier as well. I have a fair collection of records, And I use this a few times a month, and have had no major problems with the player. Only once after a move did I have a problem with the belt slipping off, but easy fix slipping it back on and no problems since. And, as with this model, it is fully automatic, makes it easy. The sound is pretty good as well. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you want the outstanding sound and indistructable, you'll have to pay for it. But this model should serve the purpose of most average users, and durability has not been a problem. Give this a shot.
Where's the Preamp?.......2005-12-12
This is a very low end turntable that could do well for someone that does not really care about quality equipment. Construction is cheap and the cartridge is not standard, so you can't buy any number of the cartridges available out there. Like one of the others said out here the tonearm is short and straight (but light weight) and will cause tracking error, as it nears the center of the record on playing, etc. Only good thing is it is fully automatic
The turntable does not appear to have an inbuilt preamp though, as other reviewers here have indicated. You must have a phono input on your receiver, something few low end receivers have. Look at the Teac P-A688, at the same price if you need a built in preamp.
I purchased this one for a 73 year old aunt, wanting to play her old records (not in the best of shape either) and that's about all its good for. Of course her receiver did not have a phone preamp, but I was able to test the unit on my system. This one was defective and will be sent back. Will replace with the Teac P-A688.
Gave it 2 stars, mainly because without the preamp I don't think it fits the purpose it was designed for at this price range.
What Was I Thinking?.......2005-01-09
If ever I wanted to hear this one record that I own from my small record collection, I would have to buy a new turntable because that recording was made in 1966 and was never released in any other format. I thought the Teac P-988 at $90 would serve my purpose. What was I thinking? Even if I had been able to get this turntable to produce any sound I would not have kept it and I would still rate it 1 star because 0 star is not an option at Amazon. This unit is so cheap that it's embarassing. I returned it and got the Audio-Technica AT-PL120 at $220 from Amazon. Now there's a turntable that will make all your records sound super fine for just a few more dollars.
Great turntable for just listening to records.......2004-09-19
Its a pretty good belt-drive turntable which has a built-in pre-amp (on or off) under the metal platter. I bought this turntable because the replacement stylus is easily replaceable and not that expensive, unlike the Sony turntable's stylus that cost some $50 bucks to replace, this one only cost about $20 every 400 hours of usage. If you use it 2 hours a day it should last you the whole year.
I've hooked this up to my dvd recorder and have recorded 10 hours of music onto a dvd-r via the sylvania dvd recorder which i bought on Amazon recenlty). Nothing to it, i didn't even need a reciever or amp to run it thru, I just took the white and red audio wires and connected to the back of the dvd recorder and connected the yellow video wire on any blank directv channel for the video and started recording, I've transferred all of my 80s 90s and now 2004 12" vinyl singles which aren't available on cds directly to the dvd-r disc.
This is also a fully automatic turntable (not manual) which means it returns to the needle rest arm after a record is over playing. Since it does have the built-in pre-amp (which you can turn off or on) you can hook this up basically anywhere like your tv or mini audio system.
Average customer rating:
- Correct to Another Review
- Another budget turntable that does the job.
- Not a bad turntable for the price

Another budget turntable that does the job........2004-05-27
This turntable could well be another one of chinese origin. There seems an explosion of chinese stuff as we well know. All the clues seem to be there, short tonearm that introduces tracking error, esp as it nears the centre of the record on playing, etc.The inbuilt preamp(similar to audio technicaAT-950,teacPA-688&poss DenonDP-29F)is a Godsend for people who just want to play records, every now and then and not mess about with stylus gauges etc.Seperate preamps/leads are not their thing.Similar to tandy/Dick Smith item sold in aust.Vinyl for the masses.
Not a bad turntable for the price.......2004-05-27
This turntable looks very similar to the one sold in Australia-as a 250volt a.c,fully automatic,pre-amped,Optimus LAB-1100 belt drive. It is sold by tandy and curiously,by their opposition, local oz company-Dick Smith electronics for aus$128(have seen it for aus$100 lately. My girlfriend and I,decided to go 'halves' in one for her.I thought it would be a great way to get her back to vinyl-as we are in our forties! The preamp is handy for her kenwood which has no provision for phono/riaa curve. The sound is clear, not too tinny. The arm is abit short, tho.
