I got these for family and haven't seen them work yet because I was going to give them the digital frames for Christmas. The shipping was estimated to get here on October 5th but got here September 21st!!!
More than what I was looking for!.......2007-09-01
I bought these recently, after my three year old Panasonic died. We use Vonage, and I answer customer service calls from my home, so I needed multiple handsets with good sound quality. We got so much more! We love having one on each of our floors. The base is in the basement, the third handset in the bedroom on the top floor, and there are no dead spots or sound fading, like we had with the old one. I love that the phones are intercoms--works wonderfully with my kids in the basement instead of them yelling up the stairs. I can also listen in on what they are doing, two floors up, so I know they aren't getting into trouble. The handsets are small, but fit nicely into my hand and aren't a problem. I use my headset with them for work and have had no trouble. The batteries came partly charged and charged easily, and seem to hold a charge pretty well. I also love the unique ring feature--now I know without checking caller id if its an important call (meaning a family member) or one I can get to later. Really a great phone set for the price!
Reliable.......2007-08-16
We switched to VOIP almost a year ago, and, as per the reviews we could find, this seemed like the most reliable phone system. We've had no problems so far, and the price, though not the lowest, is very reasonable.
One caveat--if there's a way to access the answering machine from any location, we haven't figured it out yet. And if not, that can be one of the next things Uniden works on.

This is the worst set of phones I ever owned. I had to ship three phones back to the warranty repair (at my cost). The phones will soon be out of warranty. I suppose that is why they give you a set of 4 phones. By the end of the year, you might have one left working. So, if you are interested in having 4 working phones, you better buy 12 of them!! Save your money. Buy Vtech instead.
Feature Rich!!.......2007-07-06
I bought this set for two friends over the holidays and they love them! I've used theirs many times and was impressed so I bought a set for myself. I have recommended it to many other friends since then. The amount of features in this set go on and on. Besides being a cordless phone it can also be used as a Room/Baby monitor as well as two-way radios away from home. You can also use the handsets as an intercom system in your home or to transfer the phone call between handsets. Most options are programable from any handset and you can listen/clear your messages from any handset. You can also copy your phonebook between handsets. And a handy little feature when you want to be left alone... one touch "Do Not Disturb" that will prevent any handset from ringing with an incoming call. This is just a few of the things that impressed me. The only thing that I noticed that may be a problem is that sometimes the caller sounds a little muffled. I'm not sure if that is a problem with this phone system or not tho.

For everyone who has this phone and was having trouble with adding the area code - I found the solution. When your looking at your caller id and it's a long distance number you can hit the # button to add the area code (if it isn't there already) and you can add the "1" before the area code and number by hitting *(tone) *woohoo* no more editing and redoing all the numbers before you add them to caller id!

Very Disapointed!.......2007-03-19
We got this phone a couple of months ago and are still not able to use it at all. Originally, we could not hear anything from this phone at all. Now only faint voice can be heard, but the only end still has no sound at all.
I spend hours reading the manual, but still can not make it work for us. Maybe it is a malfunctioning one. I would definitly NOT buy any Uniden products in the future.
Does not stand the test of time.......2007-03-02
When we first received these phones they were pretty good - the range is short but we could deal with that. After a few weeks the sound quality started to really decline (echos, breaking up, and static.). After 8 months the caller ID does not function on one handset and the sound quality on the other handset is so bad as to make it unusable.
The small size at first was cute but after awhile is very annoying and uncomfortable. I just ordered a panasonic set and can't wait to trash this set. I have been a loyal fan of uniden for many years but this product has shaken my confidence in there recent quality or lack there of.
Great Cordless with great features.......2007-02-06
This is a really good phone! Love the size and the handsfree features on each phone AND the base. Our last phone did not have that feature on the base and if the phone rang and we could not locate the handsets we could not answer the phone. Now we can! The reception is great and the volume features are easy to operate. We also got a killer price and prompt delivery. We are happy customers!

Very cool, but flighty.......2007-06-06
This phone is very very cool in its functionality. It does a lot of nice things, and by the features, the best phone I've ever owned.
But it just is not solid. After a year of owning it, we are starting to periodically lose phone service, and it is definitely the phone, because an old analog phone works jsut fine. This phone just keeps getting into a state where it thinks one of the phones if off the hook, and nothing we can do except unplug it for a week seems to bring it back. Also, about 15% of the time the sound quality is quite poor and is subject to echoes, although normally it is fine.

This phone was nothing but trouble.It continually stopped working causing me to have no phone service. I called my phone service and they came up and determined that the problem was in the phone,so I hooked up my old phone and everything was fine with my service. I would not reccomend this model phone to anyone,even though it's a Uniden.
Great phone, only minor problems.......2006-06-10
We've been using this phone in a house with WiFi (B/G) coverage and an older analog 2.4GHz phone. Sound quality has been great and there has been no noticable interference between the systems.
Pros:
-Messages can be replayed/deleted on the base station or any handset. Each handset has a 'blinking light' message indicator.
-Each handset can have it's own 'name' displayed on the LCD screen, useful for paging/intercom
-Bright, easy to read display
-Phonebook can be copied between handsets
-Base and Handsets have their own ring tone and volume
-Answering machine gives date stamps to messages
Cons/Possible Improvements:
-Small "concave", buttons (convex buttons are usually easier to press)
-Awkward button layout (many buttons have two uses and the "select" button is at an awkward place)
Summary:
Great phone system to give the whole house telephone access with only one jack.

A good DVD-RW for the money........2005-02-11
I bought this unit two weeks ago which is a internal DVD-RW Model 1633S and came with Nero operating software. It and the software loaded up perfectly with the computer (PC Windows XP), reconizing the hardware and assigning a windows ROM drive engine to it. My gripe is the DVD will not drag and drop, send to or write on a CD-RW,CD-R or CD-ROM. I have contacted the tech-support for this DVD writer but have not been able to solve the problem. I am wondering if I have gotten a bad DVD writer... I have backed up some of my DVD movies and they come out perfectly, you can't tell them from the original ones. I am waiting for another email reply to my problem from tech-support, hope they have an answer.

My family got this drive for my mother for Mother's Day. Well, I wish I had picked up two of them. It works flawlessly. It burns quickly and I've never seen it failing to print a disk out. Sometimes my Sony DVD recorder will mess up and then I'll try it on her drive and it works perfectly. I've become a Lite-On fan having gone out and purchased a DVD reader of theirs. When my Sony dies on me, it will be a Lite-On I replace it with. I'm happy with my mother's drive and my new one. Awesome!!!
this will burn at 8x if you get the right firmware for it.......2004-02-26
OK, I have had this drive for about two months now and it works great! THe best thing about this drive is that somebody actualy wrote a firmware upgrade for it that will cause your computer to recognize the drive as an 811 drive instead of a 411 drive. that means it will burn at 8x instead of 4x! I don't know how all this works but it does and I am now burning at 8x. If you look on the internet for firmware for this model you will find it yourself. Why spend more? Buy this and flash the new firmware!

I have had this burner now for about a month. It installed very easily into my Dell PC and I was burning in no time flat.
I started out using Maxell media to burn my files onto, and had no problems whatsoever. Then I moved to Memorex and frankly, couldn't get a dang thing to play in my DVD players...UNTIL I visited their site and found out they have had 6 Firmware updates since the manufactured date. So I downloaded and flashed the drive with the most recent firmware (dated 1/7/04 I believe)and bingo! the media is playing on every DVD player in my house: Xbox, Panasonic DVD-R and my $50 DVD player from WalMart.
So, the key here is to check for the updated firmware often and you should be fine.
Also remember that home DVD burning is still in the infancy stage here folks and not every burn will be successful. It may take some playing with (for example, I can burn video files straight to the Maxell DVD-R's no problem, however on the Memorex media, I have to create an ISO image first and then burn that before it can be recognized in my DVD players. Not sure why, just is.)
I would have no qualms about purchasing this DVD burner all over again. The software it comes with is great for authoring DVD's and burning. I was compiling video (.wma, quicktime etc) and photos to burn my own family DVD in no time.
Give it a spin, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Best of the new customer grade DVD burners.......2004-01-08
Mid-2003 DVD burners fell below the $200 price point. Really you now have only a hand full of companies manufacturing these burners and everyone else is repackaging these drives and stamping their name on them. This drive LDW-411S is a popular one and is repackaged under a different model number by Sony, BUSLink and other brands as well as the Lite-On brand sold here (note: Lite-On is the real maker of this drive, everyone else is rebranding, Optorite and NEC are other popular makers who drives get rebranded all the time). I've had my LDW-411S for about a month now and I have mostly postive things to say about this drive. It works great with popular backup software (DVDXCopy and DCDXCopy Express) it works great with author ware (MyDVD is commonly packaged with it, I've also used TMPEG DVD Author) it burns great will all media types I've trown at it, including: TDK DVD+R, TDK DVD+RW, Sony DVD-R, Memorex DVD+R, CompUSA (generic 2.4x) DVD+R, too many CD-R media types to count. I've made no coasters with the drive and so far I've burned about 20 DVDs (in contrast I owned an Optorite drive for about a week and made 5 coasters of the 7 DVD+R burn attempts, that drive was exchanged for this one). Only negative comment is regarding Nero burning ROM, if you want to use this program (and it is the most popular) you'll need to upgrade from version 6.0 to 6.3 (version 6.0 is the most current you can buy off the shelf), the patches are quite large to download and without them Nero 6 will not reconize this drive. Having said that, once you have Nero 6.3 you'll have no problems burning to whatever. Most of the problems you have with 4x burners are faulty applications that erronously try to burn at 4x speed to 2.4x media (this is often misunderstood to mean that some of these more inexpensive burners can only use the expensive media which isn't true) Nero 6.3 takes care of this problem for 99% of my DVD burning needs. Also watch it when burning CD-R's, this drive default's to 40x speed and most of the cheap CD-R blanks can't handle that, so you may need to bring it down to 24x or even slower, again use something good like Nero to burn your disc and there won't be a problem.
