I bought this phone and it never worked from day one. We were in the middle of moving so I never took it back. When I called Uniden for guidance, the wait time to speak to someone was over 35 minutes so I e-mailed them through their website....never to receive any response.

This phone is junk.......2004-12-31

I bought this phone about a month ago as a gift. Price was right and the online reviews that I read seemed good for the most part. Needless to say, I am VERY disappointed. 2 days after having the phone, I would hear various loud beeps when moving around the house. My friend on the other end of the line said he thought he was playing "Asteroids." Whenever somone was trying to call, the call waiting would beep, then would be followed by a screeching sound in my ear. I returned this phone and am awaiting a refund.

Aside from the major problems with the phone, my similar GE model had more features. This phone does not have a backlit display or numbers so that you can see it in the dark. When you put it on the charger, it doesn't beep like most phones do to let you know it's on there correctly. Also, if you are wall mounting this phone (like I did) it comes with this HUGE cord that does not fit in the base. I actually went out and bought a small 6-inch cord to make it look nice.

Overall, I was very dissatisfied with this phone. This was my first experience with a Uniden product that was not a CB radio or Scanner. I won't be buying another one ever again.

Reasonably good phone for the price.......2004-10-26

I was skeptical to buy this phone base on the price but I was pleasantly surprised. For the cheap price tag its a good phone. Reception is good. Range is OK. Nice features with caller ID. I especially like the auto-talk feature where you just remove the phone from its base and start talking without pressing any button. Good buy.

I got this phone for my dad for Father's Day. He's very picky and I looked at a lot of phones. This one has the volume control he needed, and it doesn't take much space. Good phone, and Uniden is a great product with excellent engineering.

Don't think it will speed up your photo taking!.......2006-01-17

According to a Sony rep I just spoke to, having a high speed memory stick will only increase the speed of data transfer to your computer. It WON'T increase the "save to camera" speed at all! This little tidbit was not easy to come by as both an online chat and a email to Sony would yield only the information that the high speed sticks were "compatible" with my camera. One went so far as to not respond at all after I thanked them for helping me to increase the speed of my photo taking! I'm not sure who to believe. But until they get their stories straight, you might do well to save your money for a known quantity!

It's okay for what it does.......2006-01-10

A step up from CD players but not up there with mp3 harddrive players.

It uses MiniDiscs which is a bonus for being small while also holding more than cds. But again it's not part of the player and it's just like any other cd: Limited amount of songs. Mp3 players will always store more, and it'll be there anywhere with you.

And like cd players you have to fast forward if you want to listen to one song that fits your mood at the time. Fast forward will kill the battery and just drive that disc crazy.

For the price it is nicer than say a small flash drive space mp3 player. ANd it does have the possibility of having more music than flash drive players and cd players.

So it is nice to get this for the price if you're not a huge music lover. If you are a music lover, and you have music in the thousands like me then I would go for the 20 or 60 GB harddrive mp3 players.

And that might sound bias, but I use to have this MD player but just recently upgraded to an iPod because my music was just too big to fit on so many MiniDiscs, and it was a huge hassle to want to listen to some Led on the train when the disc that it was on was at home.

Say no to MD.......2005-03-12

It's a great and stylish product but I won't buy one again. I know MD is very popular in Asia and other parts of the world, but I just don't see how is that better then MP3 players especially when the price on the MP3 players are getting cheaper by the days? I used to own 2 SONY MD players and got rid of them all!!! The sound quality is good only if you record the tracks in MD standard format and in real time. Anything other than that, is gonna sound crappy. I am sure many reviews have already covered that aspect. And the SONY software sucks too when it comes to copyright laws. They remind me a bunch of old guys trying to enforce the old rules. Do yourself a favorite and get a MP3 player like iPod or something.

The software brings down the overall value.......2005-02-10

Though the sound quality and other hardware features are good, I would seriuosly recommend users not to buy this product. The software is such a big hassle that you stop using it as a MP3 player. It is a big pain to check in and check out songs and the user interface of the sonicstage software needs to be improved by leaps and bounds.

Besides the discs cost high (5 discs for $8), typical SONY strategy of making money by selling high-priced accessories.

You can rather buy an IPOD, if you can afford it, since it has much more value for money. In case your budget is low, any standard mp3 players should do the trick rather than going for the NET MD player from sony.

Art's MD unit.......2005-01-16

Very impressed w/ this little Sony MD unit. Great sound in a small pkg. This is my 1st minidisc player so I don't have a reference for comparison. Haven't tried to dnld music or record yet. I understand from some of the other reviews that the software can be fustrating to use but as long as I stay within the capabilities/limitations of this MD Net unit It should function ok. The learning curve for me to get up to speed will be long & slow but I'll get there.

Very Impressed.........2004-12-28

First off, I'm only going to comment on the HARDWARE, because everyone knows that the Sonicstage software leaves much to be desired. Moving right along, this is a great entry-level minidisc player. I wanted a HI-MD player, however the prices are very high right now. I'm going to wait for the next generation players to come out because prices should come down considerably. With having said that, Atrac, as a codec, is far superior to MP3. My ripped Atrac LP4 tracks (highest compression, thus more music on a MD) sound considerably better than 128 bit MP3. Likewise, the LP2 sounds magnificent as compared to mp3. Overall, sound quality is typical Sony quality. Very good. The menu takes a while to get used to, but works well once you get the hang of it. This is my first Minidisc player, and I'm suprised that such an old technology can be soooo good. I was considering buying an mp3 player (hard drive player,) but I remembered that years ago I really wanted a minidisc player, so I decided to research them. Minidisc media are very cheap, and can be rewritten up to a million times (as Sony claims.) The discs are very small and fit in a pocket painlessly. Using LP4 on an 80 minute disc, you can have 5 hours of music. Pair that with an additional disc in your pocket, and you can have 10 hours of music within easy reach. Be honest, do you really need THAT much music close by? The price is a lot better than MP3 too. You can find this model new and online for under 70.00 shipped. Would you rather run or bike with something 70.00 or an Ipod for 300.00? Also keep in mind Minidiscs are very durable. Again, do you *really* need to have your WHOLE music collection with you while you're excercising? Minidisc is a viable alternative to mp3 for this purpose. The small size of this unit is also nice for running. Sonicstage isn'tas bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I "burned" 5 hours of music in LP4 on a disc and it took less than 15 minutes (my mp3 files are on another computer that I'm wirelessly connected to, so your time will be much quicker.) Overall, this is a pretty basic player/recorder that will be more than enough for most needs.

In regards to recording with this unit, it is possible, and sounds good too. You will need a powered mic, however, and keep in mind that to upload back to your computer, you'll have to do it in real-time via your line-in on your soundcard. Also, keep in mind that by doing this, you lose all advantages of recording digitally as the connection through line-in is analog. But, the sound quality is still VERY good. In fact, it is very hard to tell the difference b/w the analog recording and original digital. If ALL you want to do is record, I'd reccomend getting and older model with a mic-in.

It's slow, but it works.......2002-06-21

QPS-DVD Burner: Does the Job

I found this product especially difficult to buy. That is, I had to read through a lot of material both before and after my purchase to fully understand what it was I needed, who made it, and where to find it. The easiest part was finding the lowest price.

The difficulty lay in the fact that DVD standards have not yet settled down, and there are several to choose from. These include DVD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RAM, and possibly others. There are also single layer and double layer media as well as single sided and double sided media.

Here's what I needed:
· a low cost machine
· that can backup computer files
· and burn DVD's playable on home players
· with appropriate software

What I found was that QPS basically puts a plastic shell around a Pioneer burner thereby making it "external." They bundle it with software and sell it under their own label.

What I got was a machine that can store 4.7 Gb of data or video on a single sided, single layered media using the DVD-RW or DVD-R standard. QPS' bundled software, InCD, conflicts with DirectCD, so you must uninstall DirectCD first. However, I can read my DVD-RW disks in my other DVD-R/CD-RW drive as well as in my DVD drive on a different machine that still uses DirectCD. So I'm quite satisfied.

Software:
InCD works well enough, though you can only eject the media through the software and not through the drive's eject button. I can also create DVD-R disks playable on any of the DVD players I've tried.

On the other hand, I found the software which creates movie DVD's wholly inadequate. When one creates a movie DVD, one wants an application which helps create box covers, disk labels, navigation screens, movie chapters, etc. For an additional hundred bucks, I purchased DVD Complete Deluxe which does all that through a very easy to use interface. If you dream of making your own movie DVDs, you'll want to spend the extra hundred bucks.

Performance:
In addition, QPS' DVD-RW formatting and data copying processes are "slow" (slow being relative). It take about an hour to format a DVD-RW disk, and longer to convert and burn a DVD movie. If you don't need speed, and you're prepared to buy your own DVD burning software (or are willing to settle for less), then this machine does a great job!

Other:
I was happily surprised to find that one can chain multiple firewire devices through this machine. However, I was disappointed that the included six pin to six pin firewire cable was not compatible with my four pin Sony VAIO port. I had to buy a four pin/six pin cable for another twenty or thirty bucks. The additional two pins simply provide power to devices that don't have their own power source. This drive, as one might expect, requires its own power source. No big deal, though. The product documentation "prepared" me for this, and I had the appropriate cable in hand by the time UPS delivered my machine.

Now I just have to hope I bet on the right side of the "standards" battle.

Unreliable Product/Inaccesible Customer Service.......2002-05-04

First of all the product was on back order. Then when I did get the product, the software listed in the box and the manuals (Roxio Easy CD creator, Toast) did not match the ones provided in the installation CD (Ahead NERO). This was very confusing. So I tried to call QPS and had a hard time getting through. However, someone did return my call and sent me a CD with the Easy CD Creator & Toast. This was the only positive thing that happened.
Then I realized that the NERO software does the same thing as the Roxio software. So I loaded NERO v QPS 5.5.7.8 from the installation CD, however it did not work. QPS customer service was difficult to get hold off and when I did connect wasn't of any help. I then downloaded v 5.5.8 from NERO and it did work. Then I had problems with the drive not ejecting the CDs and sometimes turning DVD-RW into a DVD-ROM despite using the right software (InCD) to transfer data. On the whole, I am fed up and I am getting ready to return the product. It wasn't worth the trouble.
