Ah! This is a remarkeble piece of equipment. Very stylish if I do say so myself.

I am currently listening to one of Lord of the Rings tapes I have made, and it sounds beautiful. I am sure pre-recorded tapes will sound even better.

The radio works very well. Preset stations is easy to use and very convenient.

TV reception is alirght, though I will not be using it much, and Weather band sucks. Again, I will not be using it.

I recommend this item for its quality. Some people say the other models aren't as good as the older one's, this one is probably better than the others.

Great Walkman for Activities.......2003-07-28

I was very pleasantly surprised with the performance of this walkman for what I needed - something primarily for jogging and especially for those tread-mill kinda days. This being the first electronics I've bought basically sight-unseen, I am very pleased with what I got! I VERY VERY much like the earphones. They are the best at least as far as superior comfort goes! I wouldn't even think about them around my ears if a tape wasn't playing. They stay perfectly in place while jogging (extremely lightweight and minimal); do not at all create that pressure ache on my ears or head as other earphones have, it's not a Bose but the sound is just fine for my purposes. Overall construction is very durable and very easy to use, have yet to use it in the rain, but certainly would seem to be able to handle it. I'm glad I opted for the weather/tv/radio features. Has come in very handy. Reception has been clear. The sound stays true when using tapes (no 'wobblies' during jarring movements) which I wanted and got, the weight of the walkman is light enough.....the only and biggest drawback is the handstrap/belt clip. Hum...Really bad design and the only reason I give it 4 stars. The belt clip is attached to the handstrap which is a web strap (with a flat little pad attached for covering the knuckles after tightening the strap), that circles thru two built-in bar shaped end pieces on opposite ends of the back of the walkman - but not held secure. If you want to wear it on a belt....it slides and flops around. There is no stability as there would be if the clip could have been screwed directly to the walkman body. Seems that would have been a no-brainer, but someone in the design department obviously overlooked that one....maybe my hand just isn't big enough (glove size 7) but holding it with the handstrap is rather uncomfortable. My arms are small enough I use the handstrap on my upper arm and it works just fine. Looks alittle unruly, but functional and stays put. I also strap the walkman to the treadmill on weathered-out days, and that works quite fine too. So the strap has come in handy. All-in-all I'm really glad I got this walkman. The pluses do outweigh the minuses and this walkman will be put to alot of good use!

had a Sony Walkman AF-82 years ago and it served me very well and I expect this WM-FS555 S2 to be no different.It DOES have great sound quality and it is durable and the earphones are definitely different but they are very,very good (GOT THE ORIGINAL ONES WHEN THIS MODEL FIRST CAME OUT)I'm completely satisfied with it all the way.CANNOT beat the price.A great buy.See for yourself!

Sony's TCM-200DV cassette recorder offers a multitude of features which make it an excellent choice for a cassette voice recorder. The two channel, one track recorder promises accurate recording. For recording ease, Sony has installed double recording time and voice operated recording. The double recording time gives you the option of recording at a standard speed, or at half the standard speed, essentially giving you double the recording space. With voice operated record, you no longer have to worry about constantly shutting off and switching on the record button; with the first hint of sound, the TCM-200DV will begin recording. Sony's Sony-Matic automatic recording level control will keep your recordings at one constant level. Play-back editing or transcribing becomes more useful with this feature. If the internal microphone doesn't support your recording needs, simply plug in an external mic into the mic jack.

An essential playback feature is the playback speed control. With this adjustment, you can adjust the speed between thirty percent of normal and negative fifteen percent of normal. This is a great tool for those transferring interviews or lectures. If you find yourself fighting to hear the cassette player via the built-in speaker, plug earphones into the recorder and your troubles will be lessened. In fact, Sony has installed a L/R monaural earphone jack for clear and unobstructed hearing.

There are two options in powering this recorder. The first is an optional AC adaptor. If batteries are more useful, use the required two AA batteries; these batteries will run for up to twenty-five hours. With the LED battery level indicator you can be watchful of remaining battery time. With automatic shut-off, you can be assured that you will not be wasting batteries needlessly.

Other features include: clear voice recording system, cue and review, pause switch, stop/pause release function. The recorder's color is silver.

A Quality Produce.......2007-07-28

I perfer tape recording over modern CD or mp3 technology for my lecture work. Where I stop on the tape is a mechanical process. I can remove tape and transfer it somewhere else, and I can continue right where I left off on a different machine. This is not possible with the new technology. Besides, the large stores like Best Buy, no longer carry tape cassette equipment, and smile at me when I ask for it. Circuit City still carry a limited amount.
The Sony TCM-200DV is a hand held machine. It is low priced (below $40 through stores like Amazon,) and still available. The 200 does not have a counter, but I've learned to live without it for the money. Production has been discontinued so get one now.

Great cassette recorder but missing a couple of necessary features.......2007-07-11

This little recorder offers what I need-microphone jack and double speed. This allows you to get twice the recording time on a casette. The slow speed has reduced sound quality, but it's plenty good for voice, AM radio and shortwave broadcasts. The mic jack allows me to record from my AM/FM shortwave radio. Just plug into the mic jack and the headphone jack on the radio. However, the level is too high to record this way and it will distort. I use a headphone volume control that has a jack on one end, plug on the other, and volume control inline. Set the volume almost all the way down and the recording will sound great. The level does not have to be perfect-the recorder has auto level control. Keep in mind that plugging the cord into the headphone jack will turn off the radio's built in speaker. You can plug in headphones or an external speaker to the recorder to monitor. There's no way to adjust volume while recording, so you may want to use another headphone volume control. The Sony has good audio quality. There's also a pitch control to make fine adjustments to the playback speed. Oddly the pitch control also affects ff and rewind speed. To get the fastest rewind possible, turn it up to max. I give it 4 stars because there's no tape counter. It's frustrating to get to a certain point on the tape. And where in the world is the auto stop??? I've never seen a cassette recorder without it. not good for unattended recordings.

Be careful!.......2007-07-05

The Sony TCM-200DV was advertised with a "Dual Power Source" No only did t arrive w/o a battery but the AC power source was not in the packaging. It was depicted in the manual. Though the item was listed as eligible for free shipping, I paid for shipping. This is not like the Amazon I have dealt with before.

This was a gift for my nephew.He wanted a small cassette recorder to tape music off of websites of radio stations not in our area.He said the quality is great.You can slow down the music or make it faster according to how you want to listen to it.It was a good deal for the money.Highly recommend!

Nice.......2007-03-31

I bought this model on clearance a month or so ago. Its nice, and I like the mic in port which allows me to capture audio from a TV, Palm Pilot, or other source. Or even it allows me to copy tapes from my micro cassette recorder.

Although the unit is a bit bulky and clunky and definitely not one of the newer digital recorders, its a good starter unit, and has its advantages.

I am involved in a legal matter at this time, and I used this recorder to copy a micro cassette tape and have sent that tape to the DFEH to aid the investigation.

The problems with digitals is that when the battery dies, so does your audio files. Not so with tape.

Great for what I wanted it for........2003-10-23

I already have a larger expensive camera and I was looking for a small, relatively inexpensive but quality digital camera. One that I could keep in my pocket in most situations. This camera seemed to fit the bill perfectly with the advantage (for me) of the memory stick storage. Since buying it I must admit that it's much better than I thought. Personally I don't miss a zoom capability as that's not what I use it for. I use it for the impromptue photo on a night out, quick views from helicopters and aeroplanes, boys days out and other types where 9 times out of 10 the picure I take is going to be emailed and not much else. I love the quick start up as well, almost as soon as the lens cover is slid over the LCD is on and the camera is ready. The flash is also ready very quickly. I have it on the lower quality setting most of the time (640x480), and with the 128MB stick it stores over 1200 images.
Another plus, for me, is that it runs on 2 AAA batteries. It came supplied with 2 excellent Sony rechargable cells which have a great if not terrific life, but it's so easy to have 2 spare AAAs handy, rather than some of the other cameras which run on unit specific only battery cells. Very handy in countries with different voltages/sockets.
The operation and user interface, while not being a class leader, is easy enough for hassle free operation. I have used most of the features to try them, and whilst they do all work well I don't use them very frequently.
The case and camera feel solid and the whole fit and finish is typical Sony quality.
The only one very very small gripe is that the play/still/movie selector is easily moved from still to play and slows the process slightly. Has only happened a couple of times so like I said, it's a very small gripe.
Since seeing and using mine, several of my workmates have gone and bought this model as well.
It's not a camera to have as your No1, but for what I wanted it for and use it for, it's nigh on perfect.

Great little camera.......2003-07-07

Very convenient. Take anywhere and no excuse for not having a camera. $... price at Amazon[.com] is a bargain. Takes generally good pictures, if not advanced in features. Some pictures indoors get red-eye. No backlight control, so watch your background otherwise the main subject of the picture gets washed out. No zoom. A lot of capacity if you buy the bigger memory stick. Battery can last a long time between recharge. Some of the pictures color balance looks washed out, but this is a quick fix with most computer programs.

Keep it close, and get that shot.......2003-06-09

You never know when a photo opportunity might present itself. If you're like me, it will be when your nice, full-size camera is not around. So, I got this little Sony to carry along with my car keys and wallet. This plan works great. I've managed to snag some great shots simply because I had this little camera nearby.

Slow shutter speed; not good for action shots

Even a modest zoom would be nice
I'd like a larger hole in the carry strap lug, so I could put it on a keyring or such.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the quality of images, fit and function of the unit. I would NOT suggest it as a primary camera (there are better ones out there for the same money) but if you would like to have a "carry it with me all the time" camera, and never miss a shot, this Sony is the way to go.
