Sony's WM-FX281 stereo cassette player is portable enough--and, at under half a pound--light enough to go anywhere. In addition to playing tapes, the Walkman offers drift-free, digitally synthesized FM stereo and wideband AM, TV (channels 2 to 13), and weather band (channels 1 to 7) reception.

The player's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) maintains an even volume level, guarding against unintended level increases and evening the output of musical passages that vary widely in level. A switch adjusts the sound to accommodate metal-oxide tapes, and Mega Bass produces deep, rich bass tones. Automatic shut-off (in playback mode) extends battery life and helps prevent both mechanical and tape wear by turning off unit at the end of each tape side. Finally, an anti-rolling mechanism maintains stable tape speed to minimize music-distorting "wow and flutter" while the player is in motion.

For the radio, 40-station preset memory offers one-button tuning to your choice of seven TV stations, four weather-band stations, 24 FM stations, and five AM stations. An FM local/distant (DX) switch improves reception of fuzzy stations.

Supplied MDR-027 over-ear headphones offer wide dynamic range and clear sound, and the unit also comes with a carry case and belt clip. Two AA batteries provide up to 32 hours (maximum, using Sony Alkaline batteries) of continuous tape playback, or up to 40 hours of FM radio reception.

Great tape walkman!.......2005-08-04

Bought this walkman in 2003 and its been working very well ever since! Yes I still use tapes, and with my new car CD Player I usually plug this walkman into the Cd deck using a audio cable and can also play tapes when I drive. Personally I would have preferred a tape walkman with reverse and auto switch abilities, but these are hard to find these days in the days of CD and Mp3 players.

Besides great tape playing abilities, this walkman also has radio, TV and WB functions. My gripes are that the TV and WB modes suck! The TV mode only has a few channels and the WB can hardly be heard half the time. Perhaps its better to buy a stand alone TV tuner walkman, and WB.

Overall a great 4 start product. Tapes wont die no matter what people say. I see them being sold in every single Walmart and major retail chain. Mp3 players are cute, but will only work with a modern PC. Those that own old computers or even a Mac are out of luck with everything except the ipod.

I got this from my mom for my birthday & it quit as soon as i started use it. The tape wont play the radio picks up 10 stations at once on fm. i dont want another one and my mom got ripped off bad.

I have owned three of these because the battery life is good and I was interested in the TV feature. However, the part connecting the unit to the headphones (the green colored connector) is defective. My most recent purchase lasted only 5 months with hardly any use and no outdoor use! I contacted the company as it was under warranty and the "repair" would have cost more than a new unit. I am very disappointed with both Sony and this unit. I have the impression that their portable product quality has diminished over the years. For example, I have a ten year old portable CD unit that is still going strong. It's too bad, but I won't purchase any more Sony portable products.

My mom gave me this walkman for Christmas and I have used it everyday since then. I tend to leave it on accidently but the battery's last forever. The reception is great, you can hear any station very clearly anywhere. It sounds like you are listening to it on a CD player! When, I say God Bless this walkman it is litteral as well, the walkman has a casset player which I use to listen to my "Hearing Gods Voice" casset tapes. It comes with a very handy case with a clip. Not to mention a nice pair of headphones. Also, it is very cool looking, I couldn't stop showing it off! Defeniatly a great price for a great walkman! God Bless!

lousy walkman.......2004-01-06

I bought this product a few weeks ago and trusted that it would be quality, since it is from Sony. Instead, I was very disappointed. The buttons for the tuner (AM, FM, and TV) are so touch sensitive that when placed in my coat pocket, the FM station would switch to TV or AM. The tape player needed to be played on the highest volume (on fresh batteries) just to hear anything.

Not recommended.

Great Sports Shots.......2007-07-13

I use this lens mostly indoors to shoot my daughter's vollyball games. I was amazed at the clarity and quickness of focus this lens provides. The cost was more than i wanted to pay but after a month of shooting great action shots i see the value. Its not good for any macro photos also it is heavy (5lbs). Use a mono pole or tri pod and you'll see pro like shots.

Good value for a great lens........2007-07-12

This lens is super sharp and well built. Yes it is heavy but I expected that for an F2.8 lens. I have used it twice now for photographing motorsports and it produced sharp shots due to it's excellent optics and the ability to increase the shutter speed. I use it on a Nikon D200 and it focuses very quickly and accurately and balances well with the MB-D200 battery pack attached. If it has a weakness it would be the switch for manual focus; not a deal breaker but an inconvenience. Overall I gave it top marks because of it's excellent image taking ability and durable design. I expect to have this lens for a long time.

I was very happy with the way the lense was packaged. They used airbag cushions protecting the lense. The lense is in excellent condition when I received. I have no complaint.

Quick and clean.......2007-03-20

The lens shown here is great. I just got mine the other day and right when I saw it i loved it. I was recommended to this product by a friend of mine. I really wanted a fast lens for sport and indoor photography and I didnt have over $1000 so this ruled out the nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens. I only tried it out on a handful of occasions but the results so far was amazing. The actual lens is very big and very heavy. I dont think the pictures here do the lens very much justice. I recommend this lens to anyone who shoots pictures in poor lighting or just wants that nice soft blurry background for portrait pics.

This is an excellent phone system -- I have two additional handsets as well as the base set (so three handsets total). Great reception throughout a sprawling house and around an acre or so of yard... I take it outside and it works fine everywhere -- despite pretty thick concrete walls on my house. I have wireless internet in the house and the phone doesn't seem to interfere with that at all. Recommend this system.

This phone was a true disappointment and a stain on the Panasonic brand image.

I owned and used this phone for a little over one year before finally giving up. Two things did this phone in: sound quality and battery life.

Off the gate, the sound quality was poor. Within a 200 sq ft room where the base station was, I got dead spots. I also got callers complaining that I sounded very faint, cut in and out, and that I sound like I was on a cell phone with bad connection.

The deal breaker was the awful battery life. I believe there is a faulty handset design. The handset lost charge faster and faster as time went on. It simply would not hold charge. And yes, I spent $20 and bought a new battery and got the same result. When I can't get through an one-hour conference call on a fully charged handset without the phone dropping dead after 45 min, that was it.

I called and e-mailed Panasonic about this and got the generic-- "reset the base station for sound quality problem and reset the handset for the charge problem". They were of no use.

I plunk down the money on a 5.8GHz thinking so that it will not interfere with my wireless LAN and got this lemon. I gave it one star for its speaker phone and mute functionalities. FWIW, I now have a 2.4GHz (KX-TG2431). One month in, everything works great. Battery life is excellent, no dead spots anywhere, and no interference with my wireless LAN. And it's much cheaper.

Decent phone.......2005-03-17

It seems to work like it's supposed to. The only thing I don't like about it is, it just doesn't have the range that I thought it would have. In my case, about 50 ft. Not much farther than that or if I move slightly when I'm talking at that distance, it goes in and out. One other thing, when you call the phone from another phone number, the answering machine voice isn't very loud no matter how close I get to it when I'm recording an outgoing message. It's loud enough to hear a message that someone left, but of all the phones I have had in the past, this one has the lowest answering machine volume when a person calling is listening to the recorded message. All in all, I'm satisfied. I guess I was expecting a bit more.

Lasts for about 6 months... horrible.......2005-02-25

I paid top dollar for this phone as i can't stand how poorly made cordless phones can be. I believed that if I paid more, than somehow I would get a better phone! Whatever...

Please don't buy this phone - the VTech (which I had previously) is far superior. The battery life on both phones is utterly ridiculous. I have owned this phone for 6 months and already I can't talk for more than 15 minutes (which, for my business is a must) without racing to give out my cell as the phone was about to die. One of them is completely worthless and won't hold a charge, the other lasts for 15 minutes. Panasonic should be ashamed - I wasted my money on this.

The features work as they should however, so I can't complain there (thus the 2 stars). What good is it though if the phones don't work?
