Amazon.com Product Description

Images and music combine in this easy-to-use portable digital audio player. Toshiba's snazzy, silver Gigabeat MEG-F20S packs a 1.8-inch Toshiba hard drive capable of holding 20 GB of digital media: MP3 and WMA compressed audio and even uncompressed, full-resolution WAV files. That's about 5,000 songs (more than 300 complete albums) at 128 kbps MP3, 10,000 songs at 64 kbps WMA, and a still-impressive 550 or so songs (or 38 hours) of CD-resolution WAV files.

A major feature of the player is its bright, crystal-clear, 2.2-inch LCD with 240 x 320 resolution and the ability to render over 65,000 colors. It's there so you can experience the visual as well as the aural component of your entertainment. The Gigabeat lets you download and view album covers, search for your favorite tracks by scrolling through those album covers, or even set a favorite album cover as your background image. You can download any digital still picture from your PC and create custom slideshows, too--and set them to music.

Gigabeat may be versatile, but it's also easy to operate. Its PlusTouch sensor control lets you scroll through its intuitive menus using only a soft touch or pass of your fingertip.

The PC-only Gigabeat is "Plays for Sure"-certified by Microsoft, which means that it will operate with any "Plays for Sure" download site or management software when connected to your PC. Gigabeat is automatically recognized by Windows Media Player 10, so there's no need to install new drivers of any kind. Toshiba has also partnered with Napster to provide Napster's "Napster To Go" software, giving you the option of using Napster To Go, Windows Media Player, and/or the supplied Gigabeat Room management software (Gigabeat Room is required for transfer of photo images).

So what about your CD collection? After all, you'll likely be able to stash the entire thing in here, one way or another. Thanks to a unique feature called CD RipRec, all you have to do is place a CD in your PC and press the CD RipRec button while the Gigabeat is docked in its cradle. CD RipRec will launch the software and transfer compressed audio to your Gigabeat quickly and with no further effort on your part. Using a USB 2.0 connection (cable supplied), CD RipRec can transfer the contents of an entire CD to the Gigabeat in as little as 5 minutes.

If Gigabeat's battery life (up to 16 hours) isn't enough to satisfy your entertainment needs, fret not. Rather than carrying your AC adapter everywhere, simply connect the Gigabeat to any PC with a USB cable and the battery will charge itself again.

Other features include a choice of 10- or 60-second intro scan to help you find a desired song, multilingual support (Japanese, English, French, Chinese, Spanish, and German), and 28 user selectable equalizer settings, and SRS WOW, which simulates surround sound from any two speakers (including headphones).

What's in the Box
Digital music player, an AC power adapter, a power-supply, a docking cradle, a USB cable, headphones, a software CD-ROM (Gigabeat Room management software, CD RipRec, Napster To Go), a user's manual, and warranty information.

1 out of 5 stars Alpha protoype foisted off as real product, with surly inept tech support.......2006-12-09

I will never buy any product from Toshiba ever again. I have two gigabeats (one for me one for s.o.), well now I have one because the other has completely ceased to function. I obviously bought them at the same time because no one would get a second once you've seen these. These are shoddy untested prototypes sold as working models, for example: if you ever let the battery charge run fully out, it forgets what time it is and has to have the time painstakingly reset, and the controls go haywire (in my case any time it needs recharging the button gets stuck on "up" so if I want to do anything at all other than turn the volume up really loud, like play a song for example, I have to put the gigabeat on 'hold' and use the remote to control it - if it can't be done on the remote it can't be done on my gigabeat). The gigabeat room software routinely crashes or freezes in mid transfer, and system monitor shows it using 99% of my CPU when it stalls so it's obviously a bug. To make matters worse Toshiba has made it nearly impossible to contact them in any way about your gigabeat, and when you do speak to someone they are hands down the worst tech support I have ever seen for any product anywhere, both in complete technical incompetence "you should probably reinstall windows if gigabeat room is crashing" to general condescending 'screw the customer' attitude.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet.......2006-10-21

Toshiba has created a great line of Mp3 players starting with this one. I've had mine for over a year and i have dropped it multible times, left in humid areas, and left it in 100 degree heat and it survived. It's screen is tough and scratch resistant. The unit goes plenty loud, and holds alot for its size, but there is some small things i did not like about it. Starting with the menus. The menus are basic, and dont have many features, and if you use LimeWire, The artist has to be spelled exactly the same for every song or it starts a new group. It is case sensitive. and also the earbuds that are supplies are extremly uncomfortable. This model also does not have FM radio.
Overall, if you dont care about video, or radio, this is a great unit. its small compact and you can carry it wherever you go

5 out of 5 stars An excellent and affordable device.......2006-09-26

So far, I haven't had any problems with any of the electronics I've bought. The Toshiba Gigabeat is no exception. I bought this product during the summer of 05 and it hasn't given me any problems yet. Just by looking at the design of the box, I knew the quality of the product was going to be excellent. Although inputting MP3 into the device and working with the controls took some time of getting used to, it actually worked better than expected. At the moment, the controls are very comfortable, and inputting MP3s are easy. Also, what I like about the MP3 player is its durability. I've actually dropped this device three times exactly, and although it has numerous scratches and dents, it is still playing flawlessly without any skips or errors. The casing itself feels much more durable than the IPod video's. Also, I like the photo feature of the product as I can input pictures of my family and friends into the device and view it in my leisure. Also, the photo feature allows the user to have album covers show up on the screen when playing their favorite cd. Now, although it doesn't have video viewing capabilities, it is still an excellent MP3 player, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering on buying an MP3 player. It's also cheaper than most players today.

4 out of 5 stars very impressive mp3 player!.......2006-06-17

There isn't too much that hasn't been said already, but here's my take on the Gigabeat...

software- don't be scared of the Gigaroom. I figured it out in a few minutes, and I haven't had any problems with it. In fact, I've found it to be simple and deceptively clever.

build- VERY sturdy. I've dropped mine twice onto the cement sidewalk, nearly had a heart attack both times, and there's not even a scratch to show for it.

headphones- owwww, very painful after a length of time. My $10 Target ones sound better and are more comfortable. (and less bizzare looking- there's a reason they don't show the earbuds in the picture.)

appearance- better than I was expecting. It's a lot smaller that it looks in the picture, and the aluminum-brushed part isn't as ugly either, but a lot more subtle. And you can change the layout on the screen so it doesn't look as busy. I took off the ugly ball thing and made the album art bigger. (If you don't have any album art, a little music note shows up.) The screen is beautiful, and I've had a lot of fun putting my own digital pictures on it as wallpaper (works best if you crop the pictures to 240x320 first.)

battery life- amazing- I get 18-20 hours on a three-hour charge.

sound- 95% of my songs sound crystal clear without any extra effort. A few sound a little muffled, but it could be the song, not the player. I tend to keep it on SRS WOW 1, but if you play around with the equalizer settings, you'll find that some songs sound best on other presets (the other ones I use a lot are vocal 1, rock 1, and loudness, as weird as that is.) You can also make your own preset with however much bass and treble you want.

*It will make some muffled grinding-type noises, because it is a hard drive player, don't be scared. (I hear your muttering, it did that before I dropped it.) Just take your time if you want to skip thorugh a bunch of songs.

**Don't worry if you shake it and hear rattling. A lot of people stress about that, but it's only the exterior switches moving around. :-)

I've only had my Gigabeat for two months, so I don't know how it holds up over long periods of time, but so far, so good! I love it and so does everyone that I show it to! A great buy, considering how much it holds for the price.

5 out of 5 stars very pleased.......2006-03-18

This has met all my expectations. It loads the music very easily and I can create playlists in any manner I want. I am not all that interested in downloading music, mostly loading it with my cds. My only complaint is that reading the names of some of the playlists on the screen can be a bit slow if the name is long. It scrolls by, but moves slowly. But overall I am very pleased with it. I keep expecting the hard drive to fill up, but it just keeps taking on more and more.

Amazon.com Review

Extraclear sound, long battery life, 900 MHz operation, and space-saving dimensions combine to make the Panasonic KX-TC1400 a convenient and easy-to-use cordless phone for any home or office.

Panasonic's Sound Charger Plus technology filters out background noise for an exceptionally clear signal throughout the operating range of this 900 MHz cordless phone. We tested the KX-TC1400's performance and found the signal consistently clear up to a distance of about 75 feet from the base, after which it faded. The battery life is also excellent, with up to 21 days of standby time or eight hours of talk time, following the phone's initial 15-hour battery charge.

With its space-saving dimensions and light weight, the KX-TC1400 easily fits onto any desktop or wall space and is portable. The location of all the phone's command and setting buttons in the handset, including the ringer volume control, is also convenient. In addition, you can increase or decrease the handset volume while talking with the quick touch of a button on the handset.

We think the Panasonic KX-TC1400 is an economical solution for anyone who wants quality 900 MHz cordless performance.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this monitor if you have good hearing!.......2004-04-11

Yeah that's right, I said good hearing. This monitor emits a high-pitched squeal when lots of text is displayed on a white background on the screen. That means, most any time you look in Windows Explorer, and on many web pages. Go figure. I thought it was a problem with my particular monitor, so I RMA'd it and got another, which had the exact same problem. Guess I'll RMA this one too, and go back to the Samsung 955DF.

2 out of 5 stars Two stars for great color and brightness.......2004-04-04

Like most people buying this monitor, I read alot of positive reviews that influenced my decision to buy this monitor. After hooking up the monitor and turning it on, I was amazed at the brightness and color quality. I noticed that the geometry needed just a little correction. I downloaded the Nokia Monitor Test (Ntest.exe) to help calibrate the monitor. As suggested by the tool, it said to wait for the monitor to warm up before calibrating it.

Unfortunately, during the next 30 minutes or so, the geometry of the monitor became progressively worse. The moire was absolutely terrible. While the center of the monitor had great picture quality, the edges looked squished at any resolution wider than 1024. I verified this fact by opening a small window with text and moving the window from the edge to the center and back while measuring the width.

No amount of fiddling with the geometry & moire controls could fix the problem. Any resolution above 1024x768 resulted in a distored picture. I am very disappointed with this monitor and I sent it back to Amazon. I guess I'm just used to the perfect geometry of the Sony Trinitron monitors. I currently have a GDM-400 19", but the red electron gun went bad...

The only other monitors I have considered are the Dell P1130 (a 21" Trinitron CRT) and the Samsung 172x (a 17" LCD).

5 out of 5 stars A great 19" monitor.......2004-03-09

I just love this monitor. It also works with windows, mac, linux
and unix (a very important thing for me). Has a cool magic
bright feature which changes screen color intensity for
DVDs,Text,Presentations etc as desired. Very high resolutions and
refresh rates possible. Excellent for home use.Plus amazon sells
it for just $ 278, no shipping charges or taxes. A great deal
over all.

3 out of 5 stars Overrated--maybe I should return mine..........2004-01-19

This monitor came so highly recommended. However, there are two serious problems with the monitor I received. (1) The top edge of the picture isn't coming out horizontal--it's bowed with the center higher than the edges. However, none of the adjustments allow for adjustment of bowing along the top or bottom edges. (2) Even worse--the left inch of the display is muddy--the colors come out a little browner (maybe a little redder) than the rest of the display. It doesn't look good. Also--along the same left inch--text gets a little skinnnier.

For the price of this monitor, I am disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor.......2003-12-27

I purchased this monitor to replace a 17" that I've been using since 1995. I spent quite a bit of time researching monitors on the web and this monitor consistently got high marks; one of the popular PC magazines gave it a "Best Buy" recommendation. Set up was a snap and the driver CD was not required for Windows XP, pure "Plug-n-Play". The picture is crisp, due to a high level of resolution and a bright display -- one of the brightest I've ever seen (the Magic Bright feature is very nice). The monitor supports a number of resolutions and is capable of very high refresh rates, so there's no flicker to tire your eyes. Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

    Product Description

57" TheaterWide Integrated HDTV Projection TV with ATSC/QAM Tuner for receiving terrestrial and digital cable-in-the-clear signals.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's 57H94 TheaterWide series CRT-based projection television is a cutting-edge component to carry you into the world of high-definition TV. The 57-inch set displays high-definition signals, improves standard-definition sources, and receives high-definition broadcasts--you don't need an external DTV set-top box to view true 1080i programming. The set delivers stunning images from home-theater components, too, including progressive-scan DVD players, DVRs, satellite receivers, and camcorders.

Toshiba's Seine Processor provides the processing power necessary to deliver Toshiba's unique quality picture and feature set. The TV offers a 16:9 widescreen dimension, two DTVLink-enabled IEEE 1394 digital-video outputs, and an HDMI input for direct-digital connection with other high-definition sources. Its ATSC tuner pulls HD signals right out of the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.

The 57H94's authorized CableCARD ability means the set will also receive digital cable television systems services directly from the cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box. You can fed the set custom programming, too: the front panel features an OmniViewer multicard flash-memory slot with a built-in JPEG photo viewer so you enjoy digital photos right off just about any type of flash-memory card (SD, SM, MS, CF, and MM).

DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

And since not everything you watch will be high-definition in origin (wouldn't that be nice), CrystalScan HDSC upconverts all video signals (including 480i/p) to 1080i HD. This significantly reduces jagged-line artifacts for a smoother, more natural image. (Selectable 540p, for those who want a progressive-scan image from a progressive-scan source, is available through the onscreen menu.) CableClear DNR+ Digital Noise Reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable by eliminating video noise (snow).

The set also offers TV Guide On Screen (an interactive program guide for simple, user-friendly channel navigation), PowerFocus HD CRTs, a PowerFocus HC lens system, a MegaBand super-wideband video amplifier, anti-glare TheaterShield protection, TouchFocus auto digital convergence, and AccuFocus 56-point manual convergence option.

For audio, the 57H94 offers SRS WOW, combining SRS 3D, TruBass (which boosts low-frequency perception for dramatic bass effects), and Focus (which raises the perceived sound image vertically to clarify voices) to enhance your home-theater sound. An optical digital-audio output feeds Dolby Digital surround signals to compatible AV receivers and speaker systems.

The set's TheaterNet Icon IR control system takes TheaterLink IR passthrough capability to new heights through the use of onscreen icons and virtual control bars to operate source devices such as a VCRs or DVD players--even if those components are hidden from view.

The set uses a split-cabinet design with built-in lifting handles to make shipping and positioning a lot less daunting. A 6-item illuminated A/V remote control comes equipped to handle DVD players and audio devices.

    What's in the Box
TV, cabinet, remote control, batteries, IR dongle (for use with set's TheaterLink IR capability), a user's manual, and warranty information.

I've had this tv since the end of Feb 2005 and I'm happy with every cent I paid for this tv so far. The delivery worked seamlessly with the set showing up earlier than I expected and the folks removed it from the box and set it up. The picture quality is perfect. I bought an HDTV antenna from Radio Shack and get the High-Def local channels over the air (for free, obviously). Works great with the dvd player. And the speakers are so good that sometimes I have to double-check if I have the sound coming from the Bose speakers or the tv (no exaggeration here, and I love the Bose speakers). There are more than enough inputs/outputs (audio/video).

I bought this set after reading nothing but positive reviews on the web for this model. I give it a full five star rating.

2 out of 5 stars Shipping made purchase unpleasant.......2005-06-10

I received this TV two days early; however, when it was delivered only one man was sent to deliver (this is not a one man job by any stretch of the imagination). The driver's supervisor was quick to pass the buck saying Amazon did not notify him this was a two person delivery. The driver just wanted to put the TV in my garage. After speaking a second time with his supervisor the driver was told to attempt to place the TV by himself. I would not allow this and feeling sorry for the delivery guy offered my assistance. The driver flew into a flurry of explicatives. I asked him to leave the TV on his truck and return another day with the proper personel. He insisted that this TV had to get off of his truck. At my front door, I was able to lift my side of the TV; however, the driver repeatedly dropped his side complaining "his hands were slippery". After the TV was in my foyer, I inspected it and the speakers were ripped along the bottom due to the driver dropping it and dragging it along the steps. I told him I would go no further with his assistance and called his supervisor and advised him I would not sign for the television until he sent another crew to deliver it properly. His supervisor advised me I had to sign it. I told him I would not, and if he wanted he could put the TV back on his truck; however, I would not be assisting. He had his driver take the paperwork and sit in his truck for an hour. Finally a rep from the delivery company called and apologized and said I could leave the TV where it was and they would have another crew come out the following day. I signed the paperwork stating the damage which had been done and noted that the comapny said they would have someone come out and place the TV the next day. They came out the next day and placed the TV with no problem. I emailed Amazon about the damage to the speakers. They said they would respond within 24 hours. It has now been 72 hours and no response. It would have been well worth a couple extra hundred dollars to not go through this experience. The TV works great except for the visual flaws from the delivery damage. My wife is also left with a bad taste in her mouth as this was a father's day/birthday present. Buyer beware

5 out of 5 stars I absolutely love this TV - pure eye candy........2004-10-12

With a TV this nice and top of the line cables you'll start to notice all of the visual flaws in movies. At first when I started watching DVD's I was some what disappointed by a lot of the less recent (and some recent) movies because I was able to see things like the grain from the film. If a movie contains visual flaws/imperfections you'll now notice them because the picture quality on this TV is so frigg'n great.

    Picture Quality:
    - Excellent! With a TV whose picture quality is as good as this one you're going to want to make sure you have a very good (and new) DVD player, as well as top quality Component/HDMI cables. If you don't you'll definitely regret it. DVD players with HDMI outputs are still in their infancy, but if you can afford one I would highly suggest it. I used to think a DVD player connected via component cables were as good as it gets - until I got this TV. Since the screen is so large, and the picture quality is so high you want the highest quality cables (preferably HDMI). If you plan to use some cheap cables you bought at Radio Shack, then don't bother getting this TV.
    - One annoyance I have with this TV is that the viewing angle isn't all that great in a well lit room. During the day I have to close all of the blinds in the living room to comfortably watch TV. When the room is dark the viewing angle is great, it's just when the room is bright that you might have problems.

    Sound:
    - The sound is excellent. I use my surround sound system for DVD's, and Toshiba's built in speakers for Cable TV. I'm able to crank the built in speakers all the way up without any loss of quality. Overall I have absolutely no complaints about the built in speakers, and thoroughly enjoy them.

    Extras:
-The remote controller works fine, and has a backlight. However when the backlight is turned on it makes a very annoying 'buzzing' noise, so most of the time I leave that feature off. The flash card reader works without a problem, but it's pretty darn slow. I have a 2.1MP camera and my CompactFlash card takes a while to load onto the screen.

    Conclusion:
    - If you want to maximize picture quality with size and features, for a reasonable price, then get this Toshiba 57H94 TV (or a similar model) and you wont be disappointed. However, keep in mind that in order to utilize a TV as nice as this one you're definitely going to want the best cables and dvd player you can afford. It's important that you don't cheap out on those.

1 out of 5 stars Picture tube has a problem.......2002-11-12

          My personal experience:
I bought the Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor as it had excellent display resolution and I liked it.
          The problem:
The display just goes blank, with the picture tube just not working. The LED on the front goes from solid green to blinking yellow.

I have taken this very heavy 40+ lbs monitor back an forth to the Samsung service center 4 times now and this problem has not been fixed, they even gave me a different monitor and this problem still exists. Not a good experience for me. Maybe I got lemons :(

          4 out of 5 stars A really good monitor.......2002-04-18

I have had the Samsung SyncMaster700NF for 3 weeks. Quite good one, sharp and accurate color, easy to tune, reasonable price.I bought this model after comparing with other brands (NEC,Viewsonic,Sony),I should say that Sony is the best ,but it does not worth that much, about 50 percent higher price.
The only shortcoming with 700NF is that there are two very thin horizontal lines on the screen it is said normal from the user manul, but they make me uncomfortable.

5 out of 5 stars Best 17" monitor on the market.......2001-09-20

I spent several weeks looking at every 17" monitor I could find in my local electronics chains stores, comparing MAG's, Viewsonics, Phillips, Sonys, NEC's, and a variety of cheaper brands. I have also used Dell, Compaq and Gateway house brand monitors in the past. This Samsung blows them all away in every category. It has the brightest, most vivid and most accurate colors of any monitor I have seen. Its text and other detailed displays are razor sharp and exceptionally readable and easy on the eyes. The screen has a very effective anti-reflective coating; the only minor criticism I have of this monitor is that the anti-glare coating makes the screen a bit difficult to clean. The electronic controls on the pull down control box are easy to use. This monitor is not only a premium performer, but has a reasonable price. You can buy monitors that are more or less expensive than this Samsung, but you can't buy one that has a better display or is a better value. I am more satisfied with this purchase than virtually any other (of several dozen) items of computer or electronic gear I have purchased in the past ten years.

          5 out of 5 stars Overall, a great monitor.......2000-11-30

Overall, the monitor is very nice, the screen controls are all located on a retracting panel that is pretty intuitive. I run it at 1280x1024 with 16 bit color. Text is razor sharp and playing Flight Simulator on it will make you feel like you really are flying over the streets of Chicago. It will also display just as fine at 32 bit color, but the human eye can even distinguish beyond 16 bit, so 32 is just a waste of resources. (I will probably hear the wrath of a few die hard gamers over that last statement.) For people with many USB devices, Samsung has also built a USB hub (sold separately) that fits into the base of the monitor. The only two nitpicks I have about the monitor are that it does have a big footprint, I think the casing is a little bit bigger than it needs to be, and for some reason mine has two faint lines (I cant see them unless my nose is touching the screen) running horizontally about 1/3 and 2/3 up from the bottom. Its really only visible fainly when you are looking at something white, and it may be more of a fault of mishandling by UPS, but I just thought I'd share this tidbit, if anyone else has a similar problem, let me know. Other than that, this is a fine monitor, and the three year standard warranty make it a worthwhile purchase.
