Amazon.com Product Description

Images and music combine in this easy-to-use portable digital audio player. Toshiba's snazzy, dark-grey Gigabeat MEG-F60S packs a 1.8-inch Toshiba hard drive capable of holding an incredible 60 GB of digital media: MP3 and WMA compressed audio and even uncompressed, full-resolution WAV files. That's about 15,000 songs (more than 1,000 complete albums) at 128 kbps MP3, a crazy 30,000 songs at 64 kbps WMA, and a still-impressive 1,700 songs or 114 hours of CD-resolution WAV files.

A major feature of the player is its bright, crystal-clear, 2.2-inch LCD with 240 x 320 resolution and the ability to render over 65,000 colors. It's there so you can experience the visual as well as the aural component of your entertainment. The Gigabeat lets you download and view album covers, search for your favorite tracks by scrolling through those album covers, or even set a favorite album cover as your background image. You can download any digital still picture from your PC and create custom slideshows, too--and set them to music.

Gigabeat may be versatile, but it's also easy to operate. Its PlusTouch sensor control lets you scroll through its intuitive menus using only a soft touch or pass of your fingertip.

The PC-only Gigabeat is "Plays for Sure"-certified by Microsoft, which means that it will operate with any "Plays for Sure" download site or management software when connected to your PC. Gigabeat is automatically recognized by Windows Media Player 10, so there's no need to install new drivers of any kind. Toshiba has also partnered with Napster to provide Napster's "Napster To Go" software, giving you the option of using Napster To Go, Windows Media Player, and/or the supplied Gigabeat Room management software (Gigabeat Room is required for transfer of photo images).

So what about your CD collection? After all, you'll likely be able to stash the entire thing in here, one way or another. Thanks to a unique feature called CD RipRec, all you have to do is place a CD in your PC and press the CD RipRec button while the Gigabeat is docked in its cradle. CD RipRec will launch the software and transfer compressed audio to your Gigabeat quickly and with no further effort on your part. Using a USB 2.0 connection (cable supplied), CD RipRec can transfer the contents of an entire CD to the Gigabeat in as little as 5 minutes.

If Gigabeat's battery life (up to 16 hours) isn't enough to satisfy your entertainment needs, fret not. Rather than carrying your AC adapter everywhere, simply connect the Gigabeat to any PC with a USB cable and the battery will charge itself again.

Other features include headphones with an integrated wired remote control, a choice of 10- or 60-second intro scan to help you find a desired song, multilingual support (Japanese, English, French, Chinese, Spanish, and German), and 28 user selectable equalizer settings, and SRS WOW, which simulates surround sound from any two speakers (including headphones).

What's in the Box
Digital music player, an AC power adapter, a power-supply, a docking cradle, a USB cable, headphones with integrated remote control, a software CD-ROM (Gigabeat Room management software, CD RipRec, Napster To Go), a user's manual, and warranty information.

1 out of 5 stars Alpha prototype offered as finished product, with surly condesceding support.......2006-12-09

I will never buy any product from Toshiba ever again. I have two gigabeats (one for me one for s.o.), well now I have one because the other has completely ceased to function. I obviously bought them at the same time because no one would get a second once you've seen these. These are shoddy untested prototypes sold as working models, for example: if you ever let the battery charge run fully out, it forgets what time it is and has to have it reset, and the controls go haywire (in my case any time it needs recharging the button gets stuck on "up" so if I want to do anything at all other than turn the volume up really loud, like play a song for example, I have to put the gigabeat on 'hold' and use the remote to control it - if it can't be done on the remote it can't be done on my gigabeat. The gigabeat room software routinely crashes or freezes in mid transfer, and system monitor shows it using 99% of my CPU when it stalls so it's obviously a bug. To make matters worse Toshiba has made it nearly impossible to contact them in any way about your gigabeat, and when you do speak to someone they are hands down the worst tech support I have ever seen for any product anywhere, both in complete technical incompetence "you should probably reinstall windows if gigabeat room is crashing" to general condescending 'screw the customer' attitude.

5 out of 5 stars Best mp3 player I've had.......2006-02-28

If you are looking to buy an mp3 player you have to first think about the precise reason for purchasing it. Do I want video? Do I want photo? Do I want an advanced filing system or bog standard folder within a folder filing?

The basics interface of the Gigabeat and song filing is top quality with an easy to use touch sensitive menu control. In essence the gigabeat is a fully equipped, well designed piece of kit. Unless of course you require video playback to satisfy your mp3 player needs, in which case i suggest you opt for the iPod video. However i suggest that is a last resort as gigabeats main failing is inherent in the iPod range as well; neither iPod nor Gigabeat allow you to upload files from the player onto a computer.

The main advantage of the Gigabeat is its superior sound quality, especially in the sound balance. I have previously owned an Iriver iHP-140, which had superior sound quality to anything of it's time. 'Beat beats it hands down (excuse the pun).

Best non-video player around, and for sheer superiority in sound and ergonomics make the right choice. Grab a 'Beat!

Don't waste your time with Giga-craps I-Pukes with all that
messy software to load YOUR music or encryptions and stuff.
Let's face it, nothing is perfect, never has been, never will be.
You want an MP3 player with all the bels and whistles then the
player to get is the Cowen Iaudio X5L 30gb player...too many
features to list here but the X5L (notice the "L") has a tested
battery life of 35 hours, I tested mine and got 32 straight hours
of play from it, FM radio, voice & inline recording, pictures,
videos, all kinds of sound settings and best of all drag and drop
your music onto the player, no goofy software or slowed usb
rates. Check it out, if you find this is a bad player then
you're expecting perfection and like I said at the beginning...
"nothing is perfect, never has been, never will be"

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE.......2006-02-15

Do not buy this item. I spent many hours loading music into it, which all then disappeared. Even though I had saved the music on my hard drive also, I could not load it back in. If you buy a Toshiba Gigabeat, BUYER BEWARE. This is a terrible unit~~!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Gigabeat is lacking .......2006-01-27

A previous person mentioned that it doesn't let you put your MP3 music on without going through hoops. This is true. Fortunately I don't have a lot of downloaded music. I put my downloaded music on a cd then ripped it again to the Gigabeat and it made a folder and lets me listen to it.

BUT ON TO MY STORY OF WHY I RATED IT ONLY - 1

I purchased my Gigabeat in November. I struggled to get the music on but finally found the right combination to get it to work. I had a great time listening to whatever I wanted for two months.

Then one day I decided to make a few play lists in the Gigabeat room. As I was choosing what songs I wanted in my play lists it stopped talking to the Gigabeat and then the software crashed. When I looked at my Gigabeat I noticed that it said ZERO for number of files. All my music was gone.

I attempted to put the music back on but no matter what I did the software would not talk to the Gigabeat. It crashed every time I attempted to click on the Gigabeat icon.

I called customer service (who acted like I was bothering them) and they suggested that I re-install the software. A couple days later (after finding the software) I re-installed the software. It did help. It would now let me click on the Gigabeat icon and not crash.

But low and behold the entire list of music showed it was still on the Gigabeat. It was still there the Gigabeat just wouldn't show it to me to play. So, I call customer service (again they acted like "why are you bothering me?") they suggested that I reformat the thing. After having to pull teeth to find out how to do that...it worked. I was able to put my music back on. But I had to do it one artist at a time. If I did more it would show it on there in the Gigabeat room but wouldn't show it to me to play. This took hours. I am afraid to use the Gigabeat room. I never could use Windows Media Player like it suggested either.

This thing plays wonderfully. I love the fact that I don't have to convert my files to another format. It's easy to use once it shows you your music. But you never know when it will fail on you. And I am really surprised by the attitude of their phone support.

Samsung's DVD-R130 DVD Recorder is perfect for sharing your favorite video more easily. SImply connect it to your home entertainment center and start writing your favorite shows, movies and homemade digital video onto a disc. It's quuck and easy! NOTE - Preliminary specs; subject to change

    Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's stylishly black DVD-R130 puts the power, quality, and convenience of digital video recording and playback at your fingertips. The stylish, slender component stands less than 2.5 inches tall but delivers everything from convenient DVD recording (write-once DVD-R and rewritable DVD-RW) to progressive-scan video and playback of MP3 music and JPEG digital-photo files. A front-panel DV (FireWire IEEE 1394) input enables you to connect the family video camcorder and edit and record footage directly to a DVD disc--all via a single cable and without losing image quality. The EVQ (Enhanced Video Quality) feature provides sharper images and truer color reproduction for both movies and home videos. EVQ reduces pixel noise produced during digital signal processing, mitigates the cross color phenomenon occasionally produced by separation of Y & C signal.

You can program recording via the timer, or choose easy one-touch recording (initiating playback at 30 minutes and adding 30 minutes with each additional press of the button, up to the available disc time or 240 minutes, whichever is sooner). Chapters are created when you record your favorite TV show or video clips from a camcorder onto a DVD disc. The chapters are automatically created, which eliminates wasted time searching the whole DVD to find the right spot. Up to 99 titles can be recorded onto one disc. With the simple and easy edit function menu, you can delete, copy, rename, and lock, among other things. You can also create a playlist and edit video in a specific sequence.

It offers the following connection options:

    Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

    1 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointed.......2007-08-25

I just wished I had looked at the Amazon reviews before buying this stupid thing. I paid for it little; it was on clearance at Target, but now wouldn't want it for free. I wonder how such a bad product could leave a factory. And Samsung is supposed to be a reputable company.

Long story short, it does something when "recording" to a DVD but you can't do anything with the DVD - other players can't play it, computers can't play it; it's useless.

Stay far away from it. Fortunately, it's an obsolete model by now.

1 out of 5 stars Several problems, buy at risk.......2007-07-04

After owning the product for over six months, I have had several of the problems experienced by other reviewers, most notably:

Problem 1: It can't play many rented and purchased DVD's, though my older Sony unit and computers play the same discs without hesitation. There seems to be no correlation between the amount of disc damage visible to the eye and playback reliability. A purchased movie (which had been played only once, removed from the player and placed in its container) would not play a second time a couple of months later, though it had only a couple of barely visible light scratches and no finger smudges. My son's 4 disc "Justice League" set plays fine, though the discs have been in and out of the player more times than I can count. Again, my other DVD players have no problem with any of these discs. This problem seems to have started about one month ago

Problem 2: Sound and video are not synchronized on recorded discs, like watching a Foreign movie dubbed in English. I attempted to diagnose and remedy the problem by using alternate methods of connecting my Audio Video components and using different types of connectors. It doesn't matter whether I'm recording directly from the DVR or from the TV output, the problem does not go away. Also tried different discs, other Sony DVD-R and -RW's - no luck. This problem arose about three months after using the unit.

Problem 3: The unit runs very slowly and has a tendency to hang up. Not only when the player is having difficulty reading a disc as mentioned above, but when you hit the "Stop" button while recording or try to edit discs.

Problem 4: Recording quality is bad, unless you use the highest recording quality setting (XP) which limits record time to a little over one hour.

Problem 5: It stutters farely often when playing purchased music CD's. Again, no problem playing the discs in other players.

One notable potential shortcoming is the lack of inputs with a device that may be used for recording from multiple audio and video components. Inputs include Rear: 1 Composite A/V, and 1 S-video; Front 1 Composite A/V and 1 Firewire. If you are looking to record from multiple devices, then you will have to mix up the types of connections. For example, if you record from a TV/Satellite and VCR you'll have to use the front connection for one device and rear connection for the other, even though front connectors are meant for use of video cameras, MP3 players and other portable units. If you have a third component (DVD, Gaming console, CD Player) that you would like to record from also, then you will probably need to purchase a Modulator (device that allows input of multiple devices to a single input on one device) or use an A/V Stereo Receiver with multiple inputs.

On the other hand, the unit has two composite Audio outputs. I'm not sure why more than one is needed, since you will need to connect to your TV or Stereo Receiver, not both.

On the plus side - the unit has some nice editing and recording features. Nothing more than one would expect, but nothing less. I have very limited experience using the timer recording function which worked fine on the few occasions it was employed. Also I have not experienced problems playing recorded discs on my other DVD player. So I cannot validate some of the issues others have experienced personally. However, after owning the unit and reading reviews, I wouldn't take the claims lightly. Given the types of errors I'm having, I am considering replacing the unit after just six months of use. The low price does not justify the risk of having to replace the unit after such a short time.

1 out of 5 stars If I could write a review giving the Samsung R-130 no stars, I would.......2007-07-04

Don't make the mistake of buying this DVD recorder unless you have money and just need to get rid of it. Problems started with this item right out of the box. I attempted to get service on this item from Samsung but, the website is so hard to use, it's probably easier to get an audience with several heads of state as to obtain service from Samsung. The Samsung DVD R130 will not even play DVDs from the video store and certainly won't play shows that I have recorded. I strongly suggest not buying this item.

1 out of 5 stars If I could give it zero stars I would.......2007-06-29

Worst piece of electronic equipment I have ever had. DVR recordings are not compatible with other DVD players after finalizing and are barely compatible (i.e. sometimes work sometimes don't) on my laptop. My #1 complaint is that I have had constant issues getting it to play DVD that I have rented...I often have to get out my old cheap portable DVD player to watch movies because this stupid thing can't load them -- even more fun is that you can watch a movie one day...try it again the next and all of a sudden it won't work...

Note: Toshiba 62HM84 62" HDTV-Ready Projection DLP TV is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Toshiba 62HM94 62" DLP Integrated HDTV with Cable Card Slot instead.

Toshiba takes digital light processing (DLP) technology into the future with the 62-inch TheaterWide 62HM84 HD-ready rear-projection TV. The 16:9 62HM84 uses a proprietary system called TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine); based on the Texas Instruments HD2+ DLP chip, it enhances brightness and contrast while keeping the 1,280 x 720 progressive resolution (720p). Toshiba's TheaterWide TVs challenge direct-view CRT models when it comes to reproducing deep blacks and details in dark or shadowy scenes.

    What is DLP?
The DLP processor DLP, or digital light processing, is a technology that bounces a colored light beam across an array of hundreds of thousands of hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors attached to a single chip, called a micromirror device (below, pictured with the head of a pin).
DLP mirrors dwarfed by the head of a pin
Each of the mirrors can be pointed toward or away from the light source thousands of times per second, providing not only minute color detail, but also sharper resolution than even LCD displays.
Detail of resolution comparison between LCD and DLP
This set is HDTV ready (it needs an optional high-definition receiver to get HD signals), but it can improve standard-definition video, thanks to Toshiba's multistep PixelPure video processing system, which optimizes the three main picture quality factors: resolution, contrast, and color. All incoming signals are converted by the built-in scaler to match the DLP chip's native 720p resolution.

PixelPure encompasses eight different processing circuits. Among its components are 6.2-million-pixel oversampling (for higher perceived resolution), real-speed progressive scanning (which uses additional sampling points to create smoother diagonal lines), a Magic Square algorithm (for smooth, natural color gradation), Dynamic Contrast Enhancer (for higher perceived contrast and increased color saturation), and Color Detail Enhancer (to maintain fine image detail in color-saturated areas).

DLP technology uses an optical semiconductor, known as the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip, to digitally manipulate light. The chip contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million microscopic mirrors, each measuring less than one-fifth the width of a human hair. A DMD panel's micromirrors are mounted on tiny hinges that enable them to tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off), creating a light or dark pixel on the projection surface. The bit-streamed image code entering the semiconductor directs each mirror to switch on and off up to several thousand times per second, enabling the mirrors to reflect pixels in up to 1,024 shades of gray.

The HD2+ DLP chip ensures an ultraclean image by filling in the dimples, or vias, in the mirrors to avoid stray light. It increases both brightness and contrast, resulting in an impressive color-corrected contrast ratio (2,200:1) at 1,100 ANSI lumens. The set's TheaterFine HD Super Fine Pitch screen reduces the physical space between the lines on the lenticular screen, resulting in a finer, sharper, more detailed picture.

Toshiba's DFine Hi-Speed VSM (velocity scan modulation) improves contrast and overall picture sharpness, while the CableClear DNR+ digital noise reduction optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, further eliminating video noise ("snow") for a clean, crisp image. Cinema Mode circuitry (3:2 pulldown switch) identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

A 3-D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleed and significantly reduces detail noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The Warm setting reduces the color temperature to an NTSC standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. Medium and Cool settings provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.

The 62HM84 has plenty of inputs for connecting all your audio and video components. In back you'll find two RF, two composite video, two S-video, and two HD ColorStream component video, as well as a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) digital input. HDMI is an uncompressed, all-digital audio-video interface that supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus eight-channel digital audio--all on a single cable. A set of front composite and S-video inputs make hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap.

Other features include HD Window dual-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) with PIP sound for listening to two programs simultaneously, the new Radiance DC Lamp with high brightness and lower power modes for extended life, individual audio-video settings by input type, sleep and wake timers, Real Speed progressive scanning to create smoother diagonal lines, the Color Transient Improver for sharp transitions on color changes without bleeding, and the Color Detail Enhancer to maintain fine image detail in color-saturated areas.

Aside from the 20-watts-per-channel stereo speaker system, the 62HM84 uses MTS for programming with stereo sound, and SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. Meanwhile, SRS WOW combines 3-D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass (yet another low-frequency enhancement) and Focus (which clarifies voices). The StableSound volume leveler eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or during commercial breaks.

    What's in the Box
62-inch 62HM84 HD-ready rear-projection DLP TV, four-item illuminated universal remote with DVD control, warranty, and user's manual.

    4 out of 5 stars Great Tv...Lamp issues as well....buy an lcd........2007-08-21

I have had this tv for almost 2 years and afer about 15 months...I had to buy a new lamp, as well. I just bought a new philips lcd 42" and love it. I moved the toshiba upstairs to the den and will use it as a backup tv and for video games. I love the tv...but I'm nervous about the lamp issue. The philips has some great features and I am a big fan of the ambiliht technology, so far.

    3 out of 5 stars 2 lamps in 2 years.......2007-08-20

Had this tv for 2 years and now I have to buy my second lamp. Was happy w/ the tv but this is just crazy! I guess there is a reason why I got a pretty good deal on it.

    3 out of 5 stars DLP TAX.......2007-06-29

Be prepared to buy a new lamp each year. I call it the DLP Tax.

Toshiba refused to admit these bulbs only last 2-3000 Hrs. I have spoken to Authorized service center, they admit a new lamp each year is to be expected.

2 out of 5 stars not bad but expected more.......2007-06-17

Purchased this brand new and the lamp burned out in 3 months which was replaced under warranty and the lamp went out again 18 months later.

The speakers are poor quality, they crack and make popping sounds. Toshiba claimed they were the signal but there is no popping or cracking sound when I play the same movies through my stereo. I'm just putting up with the popping sound since the sound quality is much better through the stereo anyway.

The picture quality is great but I expected the lamp to last longer and expect better service when you call to say there is a sound problem...they just dismissed my complaint about the speaker quality.

5 out of 5 stars Bought in late 2003, lamp still works for me.......2007-03-20

Outstanding quality and picture. Great TV for me. My lamp bulb is still good especially after I watch average of 4+ hours/day, and I have heard of lamp bulbs burning out before they reached their life 2000 hours vs (6000-8000 hours). However, I also heard if you don't have your TV plugged into a surge protector/battery backup unit, for some reason, the life of your bulb will decrease significantly in life. For the power surges it's understandable, but why a battery backup I have no clue, maybe there's a reason the fan remains on for a 10-20 seconds after you turn off the TV, to ensure the lamp does not overheat (guess the high heat may attribute to reduced life cycle). Anyway, I did buy a battery backup/surge protector in the very beginning and happy to say my TV has lasted over 3 years without lamp replacement. And yes I had the lamp mode to low-power so that can help as well. By the way I think my next purchase is definently going to be a 40-50" LCD HDTV. That way I don't have to worry about lamp replacement. Cheers!

4 out of 5 stars Great Price but Very Reflective Glass.......2004-06-13

The monitor came very fast: 2 days. It looks good but the very flat glass reflects any natural light.

        5 out of 5 stars A great monitor at a fabulous price!!.......2004-05-10

Compared to my previous monitor (a ViewSonic E771), the depth of the Samsung SyncMaster 750s is about 15.7 inches ... which I just TOTALLY love!! I ended up having the same screen size & getting a little more real estate at my computer's workstation at the same time. I also noticed that it was much lighter that I thought it'd be. After hooking everything up, all I had to do was turn it on, make some minor adjustments to the display settings, and I was up & running in no time. Also, the dot pitch of this monitor is 0.23 mm, which gives you a much sharper image.

The CD-ROM that comes with the Samsung SyncMaster 750s contains the necessary drivers you'll need to install & color management software called "Natural Color" which, supposedly (according to what I read), provides accurate & predictable color matching to give you the best image quality possible. My opinion? The software needs to be made a tad bit more user friendly. But after using it the first time, I've noticed that Quake 3 Team Arena looked a HELL of a lot better than it did using the monitor's default settings, and that overall image quality has also improved. So if you're up to it, go for it. You can always reset everything if you don't like the results. Overall, I'm amazed that I managed to get a technology-packed monitor like this at such a low price. I definately got my money's worth by purchasing this monitor.

I am so happy on this choice! I thought it might be broken by the time it got here but it's in top condition. The shipping only took 5 days! 5 days before the projected delivery time. And what great color... Also I got free shipping on this monitor.

5 out of 5 stars Best birthday gift for gaming and web surfing on a budget.......2004-02-19

The samsung syncmaster 750s has all the features you would expect from a monitor in this price range. The unit I received had no visible defects and had a sturdy feel to it.

The screen is bright and displays images in rich detail. The default color settings worked well. I did have to use the on screen display to adjust the geometry just a little.

The monitor was easy to configure and use in mandrake linux 9.2 it is one of the supported monitors in that distributions X configuration utility.

As to the length of service I have had the monitor for a few weeks now and it seems that it will be my primary display for years to come. A friend of mine has a slightly larger model that has lasted several years without any maintanance other then the occasional cleaning.

The monitor shipped with a install cd that included some color calibration utilities and the like. I Choose only to install the windows xp driver from it. Windows driver configuration was simple and fast. It is my understanding that the install disk also has drivers for several older versions of windows. I also tested the monitor with the generic windows xp plug and play drivers. It was well supported there to and performed adequately .

Attaching the monitor stand was simple and it its fit was secure. The stand offers at tilt feature with a fairly wide range of viewing positions.

Overall I would highly recommend this monitor to any computer user in need of a good reasonably priced durable CRT. While not quite suitable for high end art and drafting work it otherwise provides a great display for all other purposes.
