Will Not Play Region 2 Discs.......2007-09-06
Purchased this unit as I specifically wanted to play region 2 discs, which I found to my dismay it would not. When I called Pioneer, they said that they do not make an all region player and could not support my unit. On the box the unit came in, there was a sticker saying the unit had been modified to support all regions. This voided my warranty according to Oliver at Pioneer. This unit was puchased thru All Region and have been unable to call them for support. (Can't find a phone #) If anyone can help,sure would appreciate it

Bedcause my husband and I are not adept at installing new equipment, my thirteen-year-old granddaughter did it for us. the picture is excellent and it works on all our foreign DVDs which is exactly what we wanted.

I happened to buy some DVDs that were available only in PAL. I also had some CDVideos plus some karaoke discs. This Pioneer player is terrific . . . it plays all formats plus has HDMI to "upgrade" regular DVDs to almost HD quality. Lives up to Pioneer's reputation.

Pros: If you want a DVD player that plays: DivX files, all region dvd's, Mpeg4's, avi's and having the ability to up-convert your audio video via HDMI or component or toslink, this is your dream machine. It also has the AC3 codec for true 5.1 surround. This DVD player has a great GUI and easy to use. Absolutely easy setup.
Cons: I'm not sure if its operator error or if its the hardware itself or if its the DVD but in some cases the dvd movie doesn't expand all the way on the screen. I would notice these issues with older dvd's but not with newer ones. I may have to do some tweaking.

I just hooked up my new Pioneer DV-696AV to my new 42" HDTV today and watched a couple of movies. The quality of the video from normal DVDs is very good, very close to true high definition. I'm connecting to my TV with an HDMI cable, which is what you need for this HDMI player to get the best quality picture. If you're using a home theater with surround sound speakers but don't have HDMI ports and switching on your receiver, like most of us, you will not be able to directly control or switch high definition audio directly through your receiver. [...] For a standard surround sound receiver, there is a work around that will allow you to hear surround sound through your stereo . You can use a digital or S-Video connection (or even a standard cable connection) between your HDMI DVD player and your stereo. You can use an HDMI cable between your HDTV satellite or cable box and your HDTV television. You can run a second HDMI cable from your HDMI DVD player directly to your HDTV . That way you will have surround sound with both your satellite/cable and DVD player inputs. Of course, you will also need to select the currect input device using the menu on your HDTV to run the TV or the DVD player and select the source of input on your receiver.
Also, the Pioneer DV-696AV plays both Region 1 (NTSC video, used in the US and other countries in the Americas and Region 2 (PAL) video used Europe, Greenland, Japan, South Africa, and the Middle East. You can watch movies in Region 2/PAL format on your Region 1/NTSC TV. This is a great advantage if you don't want to wait until movies from those regions get released in the US. I have yet to buy my first PAL DVD to test how this DVD player works however. But I do know that Amazon sites in other countries are the easiest way to buy PAL DVDs in the US since you can use your US logon to purchase DVDs on these websites.

Uniden's DXAI7288-2 cordless phone system offers 2.4 GHz analog signal operation, an integrated digital answering system, and two handsets, plus support for caller ID with call waiting. Even with two handsets, it requires only one phone jack. Simply plug the main base unit into a phone jack, and the extra handset will configure itself to "talk" wirelessly with the base unit.
All call features are accessed through the phone system's handsets, including last number redial, 10 programmable speed dial locations, and call transfer between handsets. Handsets are hearing aid and headset compatible (sold separately), and each comes with its own belt clip. Each handset also houses a three-line backlit LCD that provides access to 30 saved caller ID names and numbers. As an added bonus, the DXAI7288-2 lets you view saved numbers even while you're on a call with someone else. Information can be displayed in your choice of English, French, or Spanish.
The base unit houses an integrated digital answering system. An LED message counter keeps track of incoming calls, and a new message alert system audibly indicates new calls. Both base unit and charging cradle are desk or wall mountable.

Poor Battery/Cheaply Made.......2005-08-27
I have owned this phone system for 5 months. The battery began failing on one handset (the mainly used one) after about 3 months. It does not hold a charge very long and constantly needs recharching. The "Talk" Button has completely worn off down to the plastic and is no longer readable. The sound is good and have not had reception problems or interference. Mainly I am dissapointed with the battery issue and the build quality.
Good answerer, mediocre phones.......2005-04-10
My three star rating is an average. The answering machine is a four, maybe even a five, but the phones are a two.
Fortunately, we mainly use it for answering, and for that it's just fine. Sound is clear (no garbled messages so far) and both set-up and everyday use are easy. No batteries, and everything stays in memory after power failure. Quite nice, actually.
The phones are another matter. They are uncomfortable and sound is tinny. Fine for short conservations, but over five minutes you'll want to switch to another phone.
But, for the price we're okay with it. We use the phones for the bedrooms (where we keep our answerer anyway) and have a better (discontinued) GE model on the the main living room extension.
Unless you want to have the same kind of setup, look elsewhere.

This phone is going back. We bought it about 4 days ago, and have come to the conclusion, that we'll cuss it everytime we have to use it.<br />

The sound is awful. Lots of echo. And no matter how high you turn up the handset volume, you still can't hear the other person in the call clearly. You have to press the handset to your ear, and the poor design of the earpiece is very uncomfortable.<br />

Don't let the cheap price fool you, you get what you pay for with this phone. :(

unless you're confined to one room..this phone is really not that great..
1. horrible reception! once i go downstairs, i start hearing significant amount of static. not only that, there's a very loud and sharp feedback when i move my head/phone.
2. bad receiver. the other person is always complaining that they can never hear me. when i speak at my normal tone on my old cordless phone, or even my cell phone, people never say that they can't hear me.
3. in addition to number 2, the only way i can hear the other person is if i put the volume on maximum. thats fine except when i dial numbers. you can dial like a cell phone, where you push all the numbers in first, then press talk. well when i do that on this phone, the tones are painfully loud! so basically, when i dial, i have to lower the volume so it doesnt hurt my ears. then when the person picks up, i have to raise the volume so i can hear them talking. what a hassle
overall i don't recommend buying this phone. everything about it is just sub par.

Great price, good looks, cool design, nice features.
The only problem is ... I can't hear anything using either handset. Will return to the store for refund...although it was a great deal on BF.
