Used to love it, now I hate it.......2007-09-15

When I bought the unit, I loved it. Then after recording many items onto a disk, the disk became unreadable. Oh, my first use of memorex media. I switched back to old reliable TDK. Nope. It wrote a whole disk of recordings, but cannot reliably read them, nor can I transfer them to a computer or play the disk on a DVD player. It stoped working, was expensive, is not that old, and I don't know what to do.

Pros:
1.Camcorder is very easy to operate.
2.Has most of the option to capture video/photo - Auto, pre-progrmmed.
3.Has manual control to explore more.
4.Video quality is excellent and can be viewed in 21" Screen with clear picture.
Cons:
1. Battery life is less if you use display and zoom
2. The Roxio software gives problem while downloading. So better go for some other software. Even i am searching for the suitable software.
3.As the picture is only a 2MP, it is not must suitable for photos. but reasonable quality can be achieved with 2MP.

BAD BAD BAD .......2007-01-10

AT FIRST THIS CAMERA LOOKED LIKE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK. COOL LOOK. HIGH RESOLUTION. ALL THE FEATURES I WAS LOOKING FOR. WHEN I OPENED THE BOX I WAS AMAZED AS TO HOW SMALL IT WAS. IT HAS A COOL LOOK AND A COMPACT DESIGN.

MY OPNINION CHANGED AFTER JUST 30 MINUTES OF USE WHEN THE CAMERA HEATED UP SO MUCH THAT I COULD HARDLY HOLD ON TO IT. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS COOKING FROM THE INSIDE OUT.

I TOOK SOME VIDEO. LOOKED VERY SHARP AND THE RESOLUTION WAS GREAT. DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE SOUND. THEN WHEN I TRIED TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING WITH THE VIDEO ON MY COMPUTER I BECAME SO FRUSTRATED THAT I KNEW I WOULD HAVE RETURN THE CAMERA THE NEXT DAY. AFTER YOU TAKE A VIDEO YOU HAVE TO FINALIZE THE DISC BEFORE YOU CAN TRANSFER THE FILE TO THE COMPUTER. OK, FINE....NOT A BIG DEAL, UNLESSS IT TAKES 3 HOURS TO FINALIZE. THEN WHEN IT GETS TO THE COMPUTER THE SOFTWARE THE CAMERA GIVES YOU IS SO HORRIBLE THE FILE BECOME USELESS.

IF YOU READ THE MANUAL IT WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE THE PROGRAM PROVIDED TO GET THE VIDEO OFF THE CAMERA AND INTO THE COMPUTER. IF YOU FINALIZE THE DISC AND JUST PUT IT INTO THE CUMPTERS DVD DRIVE YOU CAN EDIT IT FROM THERE. OK, FINE...IF THERE WAS A PROGRAM KNOWN TO MAN THAT CAN EDIT VR FILES. MAN, THIS WAS A FRUSTRATION.

FINALLY, AFTER ALL OF THIS THE CAMERA BECAME SO OVER HEATED THAT IT FRIED OUT AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. IF YOU ARE INTO WAISTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY THEN THIS IS THE RIGHT CAMERA FOR YOU.

This is a good camera and couple that with the price and you have a great camera. The picture quality is much better than similarly priced DVD camcorders and the optics are first rate. I will say that if you have a hard time with directions then may consider buying a hard drive or mini DV camera instead. Using a DVD camcorder is not as user friendly as using a mini DV or hard drive camera. Most of the negative feedback that I have read regarding DVD camcorders has been a direct result of the user not understanding the directions or misplaced expectations. As far as the free sample software that comes with this camera, it is virtually of no value (that is probably why it's free). Expect to buy the upgrade from Roxio or buy your preferred brand from a software retailer. For that matter if you are planning on doing heavy editing you should strongly consider buying a hard drive camcorder but if you are like me and just do the occasional edit then this is a great choice. The biggest drawback to this camera is its limited optical zoom (this probably because of its compact size). For the casual user (shooting birthday parties, Christmas, etc.) this will not be a big concern but if it becomes a concern down the road, then just buy the 1.5x or 2.0x lens attachment. As far as still picture shooting goes, this camera does an average job. It will not replace your digital camera but for what it is, it is fine. I have heard that the DC 20 is being discontinued and is being replaced by the DC 22 but the bottom line is: the Canon DC 20 is the best value in the 2 MP range.

A really good burner for not being a top name brand.......2004-02-04

I wish people wouldn't say that this Cd burner isn't any good just because they don't know how to use the nero burning software or because they set it up wrong and therefore it isn't capable of being as good as some of the top name brands out there today. If you take your time to install this drive correctly and set everything up right and take an hour or so of your time to go over the features of the nero burning software and learn how to use it then I guarantee that you will be glad that you bought a Lite-On and didn't spend top dollar for a quality name brand just because your familar with it and didn't want to take the time to learn how to use a generic brand to it capable abilities. If you just take some time to install everything correctly and learn how to use everything to it's potential then you will be very happy with your purchase.

Not worth the time..........2004-01-13

I've found this CD drive only in the cheapest, no-name PCs. It's a low end CD burner which didn't work well with various burning softwares and tech support is non-existent. It's simply more cost effective to buy a better product than to waste valuable time trying to get this thing to work.

Avoid if you can.......2003-02-28

It gave me plenty of headaches, and a couple of sleepless nights. Unless you love and know how to use Nero, stay away from it. Not recommended for Roxio users. When it worked it performed well, but you never knew when it was going to work. I like and feel more comfortable with Roxio, and this Drive never worked 100 percent with this software. I ended up giving it away. Luckily I got it very cheap.

This burner is my first and for the money it was worth it. The Nero software is decent for most types of use. Unless you want cutting edge performance this burner will suffice to copy data for most users

GOOD because it's inexpensive (free shipping too) AND speakers do
a passable job when you're puttering around OR when you "need" it
to create white-noise to mask intimate sounds from snoopy persons
in adjoining rooms OR when you wish to listen to music/lessons at
work (where it is forbidden to plug personal equipment into their
precious wall sockets). Mind you, the speakers merely prompt your
imagination as to the true sound of the original work: they don't
provide high-fidelity reproduction of speeech, much less music...
NOT AS GOOD AS the "JWIN JX-CD775", which includes AM & FM radio.
The JWIN JX-CD775 (with digital AM/FM) costs more, so in case you
do not need a built-in radio, then by all means go for the CD-575
Since (as of 2004-03-27) Amazon has yet to carry the AM/FM/CD one
(do a search; you'll see), I will copy below for you TWO features
lists. This way, you can compare the features of each jWIN model.

Footnote to the fence-sitters:
Should you have qualms about splurging on the jWIN brand quality,
do keep in mind that to get the equivalent in FEATURES from Sony,
Aiwa, Panasonic, Philips, and the other heavily advertised brands
you'd have to shell out more dough than for a schlock brand, such
as Coby, jWIN, and GPX. There is no way that you're going to hear
GOOD sound from shallow speakers that are built into a CD player.
Furthermore, regarding the "Lightweight Digital Stereo Headphone"
that is so graciously included with each model: you might as well
toss it into landfill or gift-wrap it for a lukewarm friend; that
accessory is torture. Better to simultaneously order Amazon.com's
ASIN: B00004TZJQ (which does NOT include free shipping). With the
Panasonic RPHC100 ("Noise Cancelling Headphones") you get quality
sound, extremely comfortable ear cushions (the padding SURROUNDS;
it does not COMPRESS the cartilage of the outer ear), and circuit
which somehow electronically cancels out undesirable frequencies.
Since this folding headphone is still bigger (and more expensive)
than the CD player itself, you might downgrade to a schlock model
that still does a satisfactory job, such as the ASIN: B00007E7L4.
Shipping costs nothing when you order enough merchandise together
to add up to the minimum, so the Coby CV190 is affordable (25% of
the cost of the Panasonic RP-HC100), and there is ear padding (ON
the ear, not AROUND the ear -- not as comfortable or effective) +

the useful noise-canceling feature (powered by one AAA battery, &
the folded size of the Coby is more compact than the Panasonic. I
realize that this info about headphones is useless to someone who
already HAS a decent set; I write about the Coby/Panasonic 'phone
for those shoppers who are about to be saddled with the jWIN one.
Even the name-brand products that include "free" headphones often
stick you with junk. Unless you are on Death Row and have used up
all your appeals, don't live with what these Pacific Rim products
bundle as headphones; you MUST replace garbage with quality. Bye.

The CD player is pretty good, but the enclosed headphones were awefull. Sound breaks in and out, they also feel and are cheap. Replace the headphones and you're ok
