Stolen XMAS Gift.......2007-09-20
I bought this Camera from my wife for Christmas to replace her Film Version of this camera. I thought it would be a nice gift and allow her to explore Photography in a more creative way, since here wouldn't be any of the associated film and development costs for non-keeper shots. She would also be able to use her existing lenses from her Film Camera (A standard zoom and telephoto zoom).
Boy was I stupid. I'd was never into photography much before, but once I had the Digital Rebel XT in my house, I couldn't help but play with it every once in awhile. Now, Not only have I stolen my wife's Camera, but her hobby as well. I even recently purchased another 400 dollar lens... and have a long list (thousands of dollars worth) of new toys (photography equipment) I *NEED* to buy.
I do let my wife use the camera every once in awhile... but boy was this the best Christmas give I ever got.
love it.......2007-09-18
I LOVE this camera, I'm still unsure how to use the advanced features even after reading the manual and some online sites but maybe I'm just a slow learner LOL The standard photo options are great and make for great pictures, you can get quite close with the lens it comes with too. The speed at which it takes pics is fantastic, no lag time, which is great with 4 kids, cant wait for the camera to be ready! I love it
Main dial never worked?.......2007-09-14
I bought this product a little over a year ago but did not get to the creative functions until recently. When I tried to use the main dial it did not work. The camera has been meticulously cared for and has never been dropped, bumped, etc. Canon charged me $200 to fix (I was 8 days outside their warranty but they wouldn't budge). $200 to fix a piece of plastic on a $600 camera...
The camera takes nice pictures but should be fairly expensive to operate at $200 per year...
Last Canon product I'll ever buy.
A really good camera.......2007-09-12
This camera may not be for the pro, but then that is not who it was designed for. I have had this camera for about 3 weeks and have take a lot of pictures with it. Having used a "Rebel XS" film camera for about 15 years before it died, I was glad to see how similar the operation and feel is on the XT. This made for a short learning curve.
I was hesitant to leave film for digital, but am totally glad I did. The advantages far outweigh the drawbacks. One adjustment I am having to make is that pohtos are slightly underexposed on the fully automatic setting, this is NOT a problem with the camera, but the nature of the technology and something that is easily overcome.
This is an excellent camera for the person who wants really top quality snapshots AND the ability to go well beyond snapshots on occasion. I actually think a pro could use this camera with success, since it is my belief that a truly creative photographer can take top quality photographs with a box camera - the bells and whistles are nice but the most important part of this machine is the operator.
One of the best cameras on the market.......2007-09-03
I consider the camera an excellent item. It was shipped fast and received in an excellent condition. Beautiful service. Thanks

For starters, the Rebel XT delivers 3,456 x 2,304-pixel images for images of 13x19 inches and larger. The camera features variable ISO -- 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,600 settings -- and supports all Canon EOS series lenses. An optical viewfinder provides detailed information such as diopter adjustment and depth-of-field preview, while the 1.8-inch TFT LCD view finder offers a wealth of additional information as well as several playback features, including thumbnail view and zooming to 10x magnification. Backlit with five level settings for brightness, the viewfinder is easy to read in dark environments.
While the Rebel XT is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup -- ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses --, the camera includes the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. This 18-55mm is a standard zoom designed exclusively for the Digital Rebel and features optimized coating to minimize ghost images and flare.
If action photography is your specialty, the Rebel XT offers a continuous shooting mode that captures as many as 14 images as fast as three frames per second (with shutter speeds of 1/250 second or faster.) The camera offers a shutter speed range from 1/4,000 to 30 seconds, and a bulb x-sync at 1/200 seconds. Best of all, it features an ultra-fast 0.2 seconds startup time, a shutter release lag of 100 milliseconds, and viewfinder blackout time of 175 milliseconds -- all of which means that you'll always be on top of the action.
Despite its wealth of advanced features, the Rebel XT is also one of the easiest, and most user-friendly digital SLRs you'll find anywhere. Its compact design -- 4.98 x 3.71 x 2.63 inches (W x H x D) -- and weight (less than two pounds) means that the camera body will fit snugly in your hands. The EOS Digital Rebel XT has a newly developed high-precision seven-point autofocus (AF) system for speedy and accurate focusing in any situation. You can easily choose your own point of focus or direct the camera to choose it automatically. You can even use predictive AF to ensure that moving subjects stay focused while you compose your shot. With a built-in dioptric adjustment mechanism and a new precision matte screen, achieving sharp focus is fast and easy with the Rebel XT, no matter where or when you're taking pictures.
A number of additional automatic setting and shooting modes -- including Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night Portrait, and Flash Off -- allows you to concentrate on your subject and leave the camera to sort out the details. A redeye reduction via a built-in illuminator keeps your face shots on track, and USB 2.0 connectivity for both PC and Macintosh lets you upload your images with ease and without the need for additional software. The camera also supports direct printing with PictBridge compatible printers. In short, the Rebel XT is the ideal digital SLR choice for both the serious photographer who demands the ultimate in high-quality features, as well as the weekend picture taker who demands the ultimate in affordability and convenience.

A Pretty Good Buy.......2003-05-16
When buying this camera, I had huge expectations. I previously had a canon, however it was getting a bit old. When I purchase a camera I look for one that is stylish as well as good quality. Many of my friends recommended olympus' cameras to me and so after much research I finally bought the Stylus Select 105. When buying this camera, I expected a top of the line pocket-sized camera. I half-got what I was expecting. It takes wonderful outdoor pictures which are very vivid and clear. However, in dark rooms or at night the pictures can get a little grainy and not as bright as I would want them to be. In the beginning, I tried using the nighttime features as well as the red-eye, however, DO NOT use it unless you have a tripod with you. The manual recommends a tripod, but I decided not to listen and tried it anyway. My returned pictures were blurry and awful. I couldn't even put them in my photo album they were so bad. But I'm much more careful now and don't even bother using the nighttime or red eye features. They're not even worth using unless you carry a tripod with you everywhere you go. Maybe the stylus select 105 did not live up to my expectations, but I do have to admit that it is very sturdy. Also, the camera case givin in the kit is horrible. Don't expect it to provide any protection. The stylus select 105 probably wouldn't need the protection, but I prefer to have some kind of padding protecting my camera even if it has an all-metal body.
an everithing-in-one cam!.......2003-04-11
This is such a good camera!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so small, ALL-weather, metal body, a powerful zoom, a big LCD screen, and if that's not enough, it comes with a complete set that contains the camera(duuuh), a CR2 battery, a case, a strap, an extended warranty, and a remote control. What else can you ask for? Maybe you can say the zoom is actually not so good, but a lens of 38-105m, is actually a pretty nice zoom, because if you have a mega-zoom like 150 or something, you're never gonna use it!
If you are those who drop the camera very often, then this is your chance. A complete metal body so it won't be broken, and if you drop I mud it's all weather!
I extremely recommend this camera, besides, I don't know what happened to meubanks64 or something because it always takes sharp pictures with so nice colors.
Disappointing.......2003-02-07
I waited with much anticipation for this camera to be stocked after reading about it's new features in the press release in the fall. I purchased it as a gift for my wife for Christmas because our 6-year old Olympus Stylus Zoom 105 needed major repair. Our old camera took GREAT pictures - sharp, balanced exposures, great variable flash, etc. So, I had no problems buying another Olympus. I looked at the existing Olympus Zooms (115,140,170), but after comparing the pictures from my brother's Zoom 115 to our old Zoom 105, they still didn't seem as good. So I decided on the new Zoom 105.
.
Overall, the new Zoom 105 camera is significantly (~15%) smaller than the old one. I like the cool metal shell better than the old plastic one. I was hoping that the AF system was as good as or better than the old one since it claims to be a 'new 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus'.
.
During an outdoor (daytime) event, we shot a whole roll of film using the new camera (fully-auto settings) in a variety of settings while my brother's wife used their Zoom 115. After comparing the pictures side by side (same processing), the shortcomings of our new camera are obvious. The pictures are VERY disappointing. The focus is not near as sharp as the old camera, or even the Zoom 115. The edges of the shots are much darker, also. We have taken several rolls in various environments all with roughly the same outcome. Perhaps we just got an early production-run lemon. For Olympus' sake, I hope so.
