I love canon. They don't install chips on the ink carts that flasely report when the tank is empty. So with canon you get to use ALL the ink you paid for.

To set up the Canon BJC-6000, we followed the instructions on the Quick Start guide. Because the BJC-6000 comes with several large tanks (one each for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow), and because the tanks and cartridges are separate, setup took longer than usual. The Canon Creative Pro CD-ROM comes with several complementary applications, so software installation took a little longer as well.
In our test of the BJC-6000, we printed several color and black-and-white samples in each of the printer's four modes--draft, good, better, and best. Our samples included graphics, large and small letters, and a variety of fonts and color shades. Black text was razor sharp and approached the quality of a modest laser printer. There was only a tiny bit of ink bleeding, even on normal uncoated paper, and a multicolored tight-register sample looked especially impressive.
We also scanned and printed a 32-bit color photograph. Even without the optional Canon photo inks and specialty paper, the hard copy was warm and detailed, capturing the texture of the original with surprising accuracy. We also appreciated the speed--up to 5 ppm in color.

Good product for the money.......2003-11-24
I've had my BJC 6000 for over 5 years and am very satisfied with the product. The print quality is still great after all these years and hundreds (if not a couple thousand) of copies for me and the kids. I found the ink tank system to be exceptional. I never threw out any unused ink like I did with my HP multicolor cartidges. I was going thru quite a few cartridges and started to refill my own. I've saved a lot of money however, the quality is just not the same no matter what the inkjet aftermarket folks say. For the quality jobs, I stick with genuine canon products. The only griped I've had are the startup is noisy and the hign resolution printing is sloooow. However, I'd buy another BJC 600 except... in the past few years the ink jet printers have gotten even cheaper and better!
Don't do what I did.......2002-02-05
I bought one of these printers and fresh out of the box it didn't work. They sent me a refurbished printer for a brand new printer. They did see the error of their ways and sent me a new printer which lasted a few months before I had to send that one back. They sent me another printer and that one lasted the longest about 7 months. Overall, in one year I went through 5 of these printers before I said enough and they pro-rated my refund. So if you're a risk taker go ahead and buy it.

But over time the quality of the pictures printed seemed to drop. Nice printer while it lasted though. Although compared to the printers of today its slow and has no USB port so you'd be better off without it anyway.
Good printer by all means.......2003-07-14
I bought the BJC 6000 in mid of 1999 ... I am happy I invested so much money on it. It work very well. With the photo ink and top photo paper, I can have close to real prints. All the limitation is the image itself. The money I spent on inks has exceed the [amount] for the printer itself.
The interface was in parallel, so some of my observation may not apply for USB version. The first page is always fast, but the next one will have to wait, and wait (For what?). That is the only cons I found and complain about. The speed is kind of slow at top quality, hey, that is acceptable. :)
The individual ink is a big plus. I found myself changing yellow more frequently then the other two.
Finally, the i850 seems to use the same inks as the BJC6000, which means i850 can't exceed the quality on the horizon direction.
Three years with the Canon BJC6000.......2003-06-02
i've had my canon bjc-6000 for three years now. as of today, it's finally crapped out on me. i have tried everything to fix it (performed all the maintenance, cleaning, etc.) and nothing. so, i've opted to buy a canon i850, which i've heard good things about.
so, for the three years it DID work, here's my thoughts:
PROS: individual ink tanks! for ANYONE who does even a marginal amount of printing, you should invest in a printer with ind. ink tanks - it's just common sense. i can't understand why other printer companies haven't followed suit on this kind of thing. i definately got my money's worth out of the 6000. i have printed hundreds of photos that looked pretty darn good, even without the optional photo ink cartridges. keep in mind, i've had nothing to compare them to. :) it has a lot of options to print your documents/photos, etc., so for the advanced user, or just a regular user, interface is pretty easy to use.
CONS: color photo printing in highest resolution mode takes FOREVER; about 8 mins to print a page with two 4x6 prints on it. so, it's not the fastest printer, by any means. and, it's noisy, too. it cleans the print heads all the time, and while printing, actually shakes the monitor and desk hutch it's sitting on. yowza! for general purpose printing, i would recommend using good paper and something other than the "auto" setting.
overall, it's been a great printer, but it's time to move on to newer and better technology! my biggest piece of advice to anyone buying a printer: get one with individual ink tanks! it's just common sense!
Very versatile Printer.......2003-01-15
The BJC 6000 really gives nice looking text and does a good job on photos even without the optional photo cartridge. I have produced some really stunning digital photos using their photo cartridge. One nice thing is the separate ink tanks. This allows the user to replace only the color you run out of instead of having to can the entire cartridge. I have used compatibles with this printer for some time and personally I can tell no difference in the result. While Canon brand cartridges can be a little pricey (they are too proud of their stuff), compatibles makes this a very economical printer to own. The software that comes on the install disk is also first class, especially if you plan to use it for pictures. I have also used this for banners and T-shirts and really had the fun with it.

At first everything worked fine, then it stopped feeding paper. I took it to a repair shop and it never worked the same. It was a constant source of frustration. Finally I just beat it to death.

Sweet little package, if you can find it cheap..........2006-07-17
With the Panasonic sa-xr55 going for under two hundred fifty bucks and the new xr57 going for about three hundred, this receiver (which offers almost-as-good sound quality though fewer features and less power) would only be worth buying if you can get it for significantly less: a hundred to a hundred fifty, in my opinion.
I had it for about a week before taking it back, which I now regret since I had bought it as an open-box from Fry's for just a hundred bucks...would be an ideal bedroom or office receiver, can easily be hooked up to your computer. It's a bit more attractive looking than the Panasonics, and curiously lets you set the lowest crossover at 60Hz instead of the Pannys' floor of 80Hz. The sound is just a smidgen coarser, more so at higher volumes. For moderate levels esp. of casual listening it would be more than adequate though, and far preferable to any traditional analog receiver under two to three hundred dollars---those God-awful Sonys in particular.
Good, inexpensive, simple.......2005-08-16
The main reason I bought this receiver is because two things work together to make it simple:
1. It does video upconversion. That means I can plug my VCR into this with an RCA connector, and I can plug my computer into it with an S-Video cable, and I can plug my VCR into it with Component Video cables, and all I have to send to my TV is a single set of Component Video cables - it converts from the other cables automatically.
2. The front of the device only has a few buttons - there is the power button, the big volume knob, left and right buttons for tuning the radio, and a button to choose what device to listen to/watch (VCR/TV/etc.)
So what I end up with is a box where all someone has to do is hit 1 button (i.e., the VCR button) and the VCR is being shown on the TV. I like this simplicity. If you are going for simplicity, though, watch out for the remote control - it's rather large and confusing. I just used a universal learning remote that I already had that is nice and simple - the Sony RM-VL700S.
The one downside I've run into so far is that the "TV" input does not have a S-Video connector - only the RCA connector. So I have my Satellite Receiver plugged into "Video 2" with the S-Video cable and all is well - I just wish it could be the "TV" button.
I decided on this reciever a couple of months ago, and just this weekend it was available at a retail store for dirt cheap, so I went ahead and purchased it.
So far I really like it. It's small, simple, and it works well. I have a good set of speakers plugged into it, and I'm planning to buy an Infinity Sub to go with it.
I would highly recommend this receiver to others.
Excellent receiver to pair with satelitte speakers.......2005-08-09
I did not purchase this reveiver through Amazon... but want to share my experience with those who are considering buying this receiver. I chose this receiver because it was digital, compact and inexpensive. It is supposed to generate less heat - I put it in the closet along with my Panasonic DVD player (home theater setup) and they barely get hot. The receiver is rated at 65w per channel so it probably can't drive big, floor-standing speakers efficiently but I hooked it up to a set of 6.1 JBL satelitte speakers (2 front, 1 center, 3 rear speakers and 1 subwoofer) and DVD movies sound terrific. Its slim design and moderately light weight makes me feel safer setting it on my glass shelf. I only encountered one inconvenience during set up - I had to manually tell the receiver which optical digital connection my DVD player was using. This issue is covered in the user manual so you won't be lost. Overall, I'm very happy with the features and performance of the Onkyo TX-LR552.
