This printer might just become your favorite home electronics component. The feature-rich PIXMA iP5200R Photo Printer can produce a beautiful photo lab quality 4" x 6" borderless print in about 36 seconds. And it delivers an amazing resolution of up to 9,600 x 2,400 color dpi, for detail and clarity unmatched by comparable printers. To achieve this, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a next-generation 3,584-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as one picoliter. Want to print directly from your PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder? It's easy: just connect and print! The dual paper path lets you keep photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in the other, so you're always ready to print photos or documents. Another feature is the two-sided printing capability using the auto sheet feeder or the paper cassette - helping you cut your paper usage in half.

The iP5200R photo printer conforms to the IEEE 802.11b/g wireless (WiFi) standard, enabling it to receive wireless transmissions from up to 164 feet away. Meaning? The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP5200R Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. These beautiful photos will also last up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album.

5 out of 5 stars Very convenient in WiFi home.......2007-01-04

This printer is very convenient in our WiFi household [family with high school and college students, a couple of laptops, a couple of desktops, something different every day]. We used to keep a PC with attached Epson C80 printer on wired LAN. The PC had to be on and the printer had to be on. The print nozzles kept clogging, and Epson told me the solution was to power off the printer when not printing. The old printer kept getting clogged heads because it would only "park" when powered off. So either we had to keep the printer "off" and turn it on/off manually, or go through an ink wasting ritual clean/test/clean/test until the print nozzles unclogged.

Now things are much better... The Canon PIXMA iP5200R is on WiFi, so I don't have to use a PC to "host" the printer. The PIXMA has automatic power on/off, so it turns on when someone sends a print job and turns itself off when not in use. This is very convenient, saves power, and no trouble with the ink/nozzles.

I don't do a lot of extremely technical photography so I can't say how the PIXMA compares to other photo printers. The photos I print look great to me. Text and graphics printing look great too.

I think I'm getting good ink economy compared to other printers. The printer cartridges hold a lot of ink compared to some other brands (more ink per unit cost) and I'm not having to waste a lot of ink in the print nozzle cleaning ritual.

I'm very happy with this printer. I'm only disappointed that Canon discontinued this model, I was going to buy another one for another network setup at remote part-time office.

5 out of 5 stars Canon fits the bill!.......2006-11-16

I originally purchased the Canon PIXMA IP4200 photo printer for use as a color printer (to print my school assignments), with the ability to print photos with some degree of accuracy. The 4200 worked well, but didn't have the ability to print on my home network with multiple platforms, mainly Mac Tiger 10.4 and Windows XP and 2000 Pro at the same time. That was really frustrating and unbelievable. I could not even use an A/B switch; the PIXMAs require a single full-time dedicated USB port. I have used printers from Brother and HP and never had issues printing while sharing across a network, even across multiple platforms. After a lot of effort and patience on my part, Canon agreed to replace it with the PIXMA IP5200R. At first it worked while the USB ports were plugged into a Mac computer, however (using the Ethernet port) with the Windows computers did not print at all. After I changed it around so that the USB port was plugged into a Windows computer, and shared that with other Windows PC's, not the Mac, it worked. I installed the network driver software (via Ethernet) for the Mac to work. I think that downloading the latest drivers from Canon's web-site would be a good idea, not using the driver disk that comes with the printer. It is working now for all five of my home computers, and I am satisfied. One of the main reasons I chose Canon over HP is that I did not like the fact that when I owned an HP printer, when the color cartridge ran out of one of the three inks, the whole cartridge had to be replaced, wasting 2/3 of the cartridge's ink, not to mention the fact that the print head had to be replaced too. Print heads can last a lot longer then the ink tanks. I like the fact that the PIXMA series has five ink tanks, which may sound expensive, but it allows for greater overall efficiency in supply use. I think that many people are complaining about the supply usage, but I believe that what happens when you install a new print head is that it uses almost half the ink just to fill the print head. Subsequent ink tank replacements should "last longer". While the Canon PIXMA series is certainly different then most, I believe it represents a better value then anything on the market.

2 out of 5 stars Exercise in frustration for low light pics--and very little control.......2006-09-21

This printer has been an exercise in frustration. I was very happy with our Epson 200R, but we used it to death and wanted to try an upgrade. I should have bought 2 more of the Epsons.

I like to take pics in low light, and this printer has not yet printed a low light print w/ enough detail. They are all horribly dark, muddy. The details drop out. The most frustrating thing is that the print driver gives very little by way of choice. Whereas the cheaper Epson gave more control over print quality, to adjust brightness the Canon gives three choices: Light Normal andd Dark. "Light" just washes out the picture. And, still, for my lowest light pics, Light is still too too dark. My pics look like MUD.

I read online that i should use the proprietary software to adjust the brightness of my pics. First, i hate the idea that i have to make my photos lighter just so they'll print correctly. Second, the software crashes every single time I get to the final step!

I understand there are various "profiles" i could use to help. Well, i frankly would rather be doing other things than spending an hour to print one photograph. Like taking pictures. I don't want to fool endlessly with settings--I just want a printer that works.

Argh!!!

The first few prints we made with this printer looked ok. I think they were probably brigth, outdoor shots. For anything else this printer has been useless.

Gave 2 stars bc the wireless funtion would be convenient--if only the printer worked correctly!!

4 out of 5 stars Good printer so far.......2006-08-02

Despite what others have reported, I had no problems setting up the printer for both wired and wireless. I do recommend setting it up wired first. My 2nd computer prints via the DLink wireless router with no problems. The power button on the printer is pretty well hidden (black button on a black case) but I discovered the auto power on/off setting which works great, even with wireless.

The duplex feature is great and photos print nicely.

Note, for the wireless set up you do need to know a little about this. If someone set up your wireless for you then you might need them back to configure the SSID (and WEP key if used.)

I have had no problem with ink and have done quite a bit of color printing and still have the original cartridges.

5 out of 5 stars Quality and Speed.......2006-07-25

This printer is wonderful. The print quality is as good as you get through snapfish or similar digital processing companies - assuming you step up and buy good photo paper. The output speed is excellent in both color and black. The flexibilty of having two paper trays works well for me as I have the printer hidden away in a draw and connected wirelessly to my hub/router. The printer is larger than I expected but, really what's the big deal, if you want a smaller printer that's portable get a HP Deskjet 460bwt. Set up was a breeze - I'm running Mac OS 10.4.7 on a MacBook Pro. Great quality, great price and excellent flexibility with the wireless feature.

5 out of 5 stars I love my Canon Pixma printers and CLI-8 4-pack ink.......2007-09-13

I have been very happy with my Canon Pixma printers. I currently have one in my office and one at my home office. I bought my office machine last summer. Then, this past winter, when my HP printer at my home office died, I replaced it with a Canon, as well. I've broken off my long term relationship with HP and have never looked back. Not once. While I recognize this is not a review about the printers, the fact remains that the printers are worthless without the ink. One thing I like about the Canon pixma ink cartridges is that they are priced significantly lower than the cartridges I purchased for my HP. The reason is simple: Instead of one color ink cartridge, there are 3 color cartridges. When the yellow runs out, simply replace the yellow. In the long run, this ends up being a lot more economical. Additionally, the print head is installed in the printer itself, not in the individual print cartridges, which also saves money. The CLI-8 4-pack is the best way to purchase these cartridges and I have not found a lower price than that offered at Amazon.com. I hate running out of ink, so I keep a couple packages on hand. When I am running low, I place an order online. Shipping and handling are free, there is no sales tax, and the price can't be beat. And yes, I am thrilled with the print quality of my Pixmas. I'm a Realtor. I print MLS sheets, letters, marketing materials, glossy brochures, and even post cards in limited quantity. I am particular about the quality of print and have been more than satisfied with the cartridges and printers. Only once did I have a problem with an ink cartridge. I kept receiving an error message telling me that the wrong tank was in the printer. I kept taking it out and putting it back in, turning the printer off, then on again. (Did the hokey pokey and I turned myself around....) Finally called Canon only to find out that the print cartridge was defective. They sent me a new one, so I can't really complain. Canon printers and ink ROCK!

5 out of 5 stars Great price.......2007-09-10

For some reason my local OfficeMax is always out of stock so I wind up buying each cartridge separately which is more expensive.
I've never had a problem getting this through Amazon. And, they beat Office Max's price.
You can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars Pixma.......2007-09-10

Since this was the genuine Canon ink it worked exactly as expected. Shipping was very fast. My only complaint is that Amazon tends to over package small items such as this. Perhaps that is a UPS requirement?

5 out of 5 stars Canon TriColor ink - good deal.......2007-09-10

I bought the four-pack for my Canon Pixma iP4300 from Amazon because the price was good, and they offer free shipping on orders over $25. Also, I have gotten less than satisfying results from off-brand ink cartridges. I bought a high-rated printer to get good pictures, so why go with ink that is a couple of dollars cheaper? Most of my online shopping is through Amazon, and I have never been disappointed.

Sure, my father has the TX-SR502 and 503, and it appears to hook up the rooms wall speakers, HDTV, DVD, CD, Tape, Satellite very well. But this feat is marred by their horrendous, and let me use CRAPPY support. Email support is "too busy to accept", so the "Submit" button is disabled. I called their non-800 number, was on hold for 2 hours, and never got through. Voice kept saying my call would be answered in 30 minutes for an hour. But that countdown only comes on after you've already waited an hour. Yes, I was able to hook up the wires fairly simply; it's easy to follow. The "listening mode" button enables the various speakers around the room, and is not too intuitive. "Stereo" means only half the speakers are on-air. You have to toggle through the non-intuitive listening modes to send audio through all the channels. But everything is connected. A VCR clock-challenged guy like me was able to hook it all up. But if you have a problem or question, good luck trying to get in contact with someone. You probably have to call your local service center, and have someone come out to look at it and pay them a fee, while it's under warranty. Because of their EXTREMELY POOR service, I personally will NEVER conisder an Onkyo product. You try waiting 2 hours to no avail, and go buy that product again. I'm no masochist.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Value, Great For Smaller Systems.......2005-04-25

As with all electronics, there is a clear trade-off between value and quality. If your home theater budgets puts you in the under $300 (probably more like under $200 today) range, this is an excellent receiver with plenty of inputs and features.

I upgraded to this unit after owning a Yamaha Pro-Logic Receiver for nearly 7 years. I immediately noticed a huge difference. A couple of things worth noting...

For one, this is a 6.1 system. I don't know how many people are running 7.1 systems, but if so, this is probably not the unit for you since you most likely have a large home theater with larger speakers that could probably use some more power than this offers.

Now, for the many positives. This unit features a subwoofer pre-out, which seems to work a lot better than the prior connection I had on my Yamaha. The sound is really outstanding for both DTS/DD applications and normal stereo. The digital inputs (3 optical, 1 coax) are assignable to any function (i.e. DVD, Video 1, etc.). The power of this receiver is pretty impressive. I have 2 B&W DM302s as front, a B&W CC3 for a center, and a B&W ASW500 sub, and the system rocks. I have an optical cable connecting my laptop to the receiver, and even 128 mbps mp3's sound wonderful.

I purchased it for $199 from J&R Music World- very good value. As with most consumer hi-fi equipment, there is always the risk of product defect or burn-out mentioned in some of the other reviews. Onkyo seems to offer a good warranty (2 years I believe). Go for it. Perfect for an apartment or smaller living room.

          5 out of 5 stars BEST BANG!!.......2005-03-10

you cant ask for anything more, they say it has a small power, it depends on your room size, i have a 12x 15 room & power is more than enough, just be sure to buy good set of speakers, dont be fooled by BO$E brand they are overpriced, set up your own home theater, more exciting & less than half of that cube speaker & stuff

5 out of 5 stars Good choice for apartments.......2005-01-22

While the Onkyo TX-SR502B is not a high-powered receiver, it's still a great value for a starter's home theater receiver, esp. considering the namebrand and high quality you are getting. The 6.1 digital surround is awesome; get Onkyo speakers to go with this. The moderate output power is actually a boon for those of us who live in apartment buildings, since we can never crank up our speakers to high decibels anyway. (Those living in a house with the next neighbors 10 miles away should get a receiver with more power.)

BTW, if you don't already have your own speakers, you might want to consider a home theater in a box (HTIB) system that includes both the receiver and teh speakers. Onkyo and Yamaha have some high-quality systems for decent prices.

          1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for me...........2004-12-29

This may be nice and all for the price but beware: it auto-mutes your speakers when you insert headphones. I was looking for an inexpensive amp to replace my beloved but ancient (and now deceased) Marantz SR-92 when this Onkyo popped up for a seemingly nice price.
I bought it from Circuit City, took it home, hooked it upto my PC and thought it sounded pretty good for the price...(I have very high-end ears...my home theater's brain is a LINN Classik)...I then proceeded to fire up Half-Life 2 when I noticed I had no subwoofer. See, I like to listen to my PC game audio through headphones while running my subwoofer.
This Onkyo doesn't allow you to override the auto mute feature. Too bad.
